John 14

1 Do not let your hearts be troubled. You trust in God, trust also in me.	1 - Il vostro cuore non si turbi. Credete in Dio e credete anche in me.
2 In my Father's house there are many places to live in; otherwise I would have told you. I am going nowto prepare a place for you,	2 Nella casa del Padre mio vi sono molte mansioni; se fosse diversamente, ve lo avrei detto, perchè io vado a preparare un posto per voi.
3 and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you to myself, so that you maybe with me where I am.	3 E quando sarò andato e avrò preparato il vostro posto, tornerò e vi prenderò con me, affinchè dove sono io, siate anche voi.
4 You know the way to the place where I am going.	4 Voi sapete dove io vada e ne conoscete la via».
5 Thomas said, 'Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?'	5 Tommaso gli disse: «Signore, noi non sappiamo dove tu vada; come possiamo conoscerne la via?».
6 Jesus said: I am the Way; I am Truth and Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.	6 Gesù gli rispose: «Io sono la via, la verità e la vita. Nessuno viene al Padre se non per mezzo mio.
7 If you know me, you will know my Father too. From this moment you know him and have seen him.	7 Se voi mi aveste conosciuto, avreste conosciuto anche il Padre mio; e certo voi lo conoscete e l'avete veduto».
8 Philip said, 'Lord, show us the Father and then we shall be satisfied.' Jesus said to him,	8 Filippo gli disse: «Signore, mostraci il Padre e ci basta».
9 'Have I been with you al this time, Philip, and you stil do not know me? 'Anyone who has seen me hasseen the Father, so how can you say, "Show us the Father"?	9 Gesù rispose: «Da tanto tempo sono con voi, e non mi avete conosciuto? Filippo, chi vede me, vede anche il Padre mio. Come dunque puoi dire: - Mostraci il Padre? -
10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? What I say to you I do not speakof my own accord: it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his works.	10 Non credi tu che io sia nel Padre ed il Padre in me? Le parole che io vi dico, non le dico da me stesso; ma il Padre che è in me compie le opere.
11 You must believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe iton the evidence of these works.	11 Non credete che io sono nel Padre e che il Padre è in me? Se non altro credete per le stesse opere.
12 In all truth I tell you, whoever believes in me wil perform the same works as I do myself, and wilperform even greater works, because I am going to the Father.	12 In verità, in verità vi dico: Chi crede in me, farà anch'egli le opere che faccio io, anzi ne farà anche di maggiori, perchè io vado al Padre;
13 Whatever you ask in my name I wil do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.	13 e ciò che domanderete al Padre in mio nome io lo farò affinchè il Padre sia glorificato nel Figliuolo.
14 If you ask me anything in my name, I wil do it.	14 Se mi domanderete qualche cosa in mio nome, io la farò.
15 If you love me you wil keep my commandments.	15 Se mi amate, osservate i miei comandamenti;
16 I shall ask the Father, and he wil give you another Paraclete to be with you for ever,	16 ed io pregherò il Padre ed egli vi darà un altro Paraclito perchè rimanga in eterno con voi,
17 the Spirit of truth whom the world can never accept since it neither sees nor knows him; but you knowhim, because he is with you, he is in you.	17 lo Spirito cioè di verità, che il mondo non può ricevere, perchè non lo vede nè lo conosce; ma voi lo conoscerete, perchè dimorerà in voi e sarà in voi.
18 I shall not leave you orphans; I shall come to you.	18 Io non vi lascerò orfani; ritornerò a voi.
19 In a short time the world wil no longer see me; but you wil see that I live and you also wil live.	19 Ancora un po', e il mondo non mi vede più; ma voi mi vedete, perchè io vivo e voi vivete.
20 On that day you wil know that I am in my Father and you in me and I in you.	20 In quel giorno conoscerete che io sono nel Padre mio, e che voi siete in me ed io in voi.
21 Whoever holds to my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me; and whoever lovesme will be loved by my Father, and I shall love him and reveal myself to him.'	21 Chi ha i miei comandamenti e li osserva, mi ama; e chi mi ama sarà amato dal Padre mio, ed io l'amerò e mi manifesterò a lui».
22 Judas -- not Judas Iscariot -- said to him, 'Lord, what has happened, that you intend to show yourselfto us and not to the world?'	22 Gli domandò allora Giuda, non l'Iscariote: «Signore, che è avvenuto, perchè tu debba manifestarti a noi e non al mondo?».
23 Jesus replied: Anyone who loves me wil keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shalcome to him and make a home in him.	23 Gesù gli rispose: «Se uno mi ama, osserverà la mia parola, e il Padre mio l'amerà e verremo a lui e faremo dimora presso di lui.
24 Anyone who does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not my own: itis the word of the Father who sent me.	24 Chi non mi ama, non osserva le mie parole; ora la parola che voi ascoltaste non è mia, ma è del Padre che mi ha mandato.
25 I have said these things to you while still with you;	25 Vi ho detto queste cose mentre mi trovavo ancora in mezzo a voi;
26 but the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father wil send in my name, wil teach you everythingand remind you of al I have said to you.	26 ma il Paraclito, lo Spirito Santo che il Padre manderà in mio nome, egli v'insegnerà ogni cosa e vi suggerirà tutto ciò che io vi ho detto.
27 Peace I bequeath to you, my own peace I give you, a peace which the world cannot give, this is mygift to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.	27 Io vi lascio la pace, vi dò la mia pace. Io ve la dò, non come la dà il mondo. Il vostro cuore non si turbi nè si sgomenti.
28 You heard me say: I am going away and shal return. If you loved me you would be glad that I amgoing to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.	28 Avete udito ciò che vi ho detto: - Io vado e torno a voi. - Se mi amate, vi rallegrerete certo con me, perchè vado al Padre, perchè il Padre è maggiore di me.
29 I have told you this now, before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe.	29 Ve l'ho detto ora, prima che avvenga, perchè quando avverrà, voi crediate.
30 I shall not talk to you much longer, because the prince of this world is on his way. He has no powerover me,	30 Non starò a dirvi molte cose perchè viene il principe di questo mondo che nulla ha in me,
31 but the world must recognise that I love the Father and that I act just as the Father commanded.Come now, let us go.	31 ma affinchè il mondo sappia che io amo il Padre e che opero come il Padre mi ha ordinato; levatevi e partiamo di qua!
