John 14

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Do not let your hearts be troubled. You trust in God, trust also in me.	1 "Non si turbi il vostro cuore. Credete in Dio, e credete anche in me.
2 In my Father's house there are many places to live in; otherwise I would have told you. I am going nowto prepare a place for you,	2 Nella casa del Padre mio ci sono molte dimore; se no, vi avrei forse detto che vado a prepararvi un posto?
3 and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you to myself, so that you maybe with me where I am.	3 E quando sarò andato e vi avrò preparato un posto, ritornerò e vi prenderò presso di me, affinché dove sono io siate anche voi.
4 You know the way to the place where I am going.	4 E dove io vado voi conoscete la via".
5 Thomas said, 'Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?'	5 Gli dice Tommaso: "Signore, non sappiamo dove vai, come possiamo conoscerne la via?".
6 Jesus said: I am the Way; I am Truth and Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.	6 Gli dice Gesù: "Io sono la via e la verità e la vita. Nessuno va al Padre se non attraverso di me.
7 If you know me, you will know my Father too. From this moment you know him and have seen him.	7 Se voi mi aveste conosciuto, anche il mio Padre conoscereste, e fin d'ora voi lo conoscete e l'avete visto".
8 Philip said, 'Lord, show us the Father and then we shall be satisfied.' Jesus said to him,	8 Gli dice Filippo: "Mostraci il Padre e ci basta".
9 'Have I been with you al this time, Philip, and you stil do not know me? 'Anyone who has seen me hasseen the Father, so how can you say, "Show us the Father"?	9 Gli dice Gesù: "Da tanto tempo sono con voi, e non mi hai conosciuto, Filippo? Chi ha visto me, ha visto il Padre. Come puoi tu dire: "Mostraci il Padre"?
10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? What I say to you I do not speakof my own accord: it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his works.	10 Non credi che io sono nel Padre e il Padre è in me? Le parole che io vi dico, non le dico da me stesso; il Padre che dimora in me fa le sue opere.
11 You must believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe iton the evidence of these works.	11 Credetemi: io sono nel Padre e il Padre è in me. Almeno credete a causa delle opere stesse.
12 In all truth I tell you, whoever believes in me wil perform the same works as I do myself, and wilperform even greater works, because I am going to the Father.	12 In verità, in verità vi dico: chi crede in me, anch'egli farà le opere che io faccio e ne farà anche di più grandi, perché io vado al Padre.
13 Whatever you ask in my name I wil do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.	13 E quanto chiederete nel mio nome lo farò, affinché il Padre sia glorificato nel Figlio.
14 If you ask me anything in my name, I wil do it.	14 Se mi chiederete qualcosa nel mio nome, io lo farò".
15 If you love me you wil keep my commandments.	15 "Se mi amate, osservate i miei comandamenti.
16 I shall ask the Father, and he wil give you another Paraclete to be with you for ever,	16 Io pregherò il Padre ed egli vi darà un altro Paraclito, affinché sia per sempre con voi,
17 the Spirit of truth whom the world can never accept since it neither sees nor knows him; but you knowhim, because he is with you, he is in you.	17 lo Spirito di verità, che il mondo non può accogliere, perché non lo vede né lo conosce. Voi lo conoscete, perché dimora presso di voi e sarà in voi.
18 I shall not leave you orphans; I shall come to you.	18 Non vi lascerò orfani, ritornerò da voi.
19 In a short time the world wil no longer see me; but you wil see that I live and you also wil live.	19 Ancora un po' e il mondo non mi vedrà più, ma voi mi vedrete, perché io vivo e voi vivrete.
20 On that day you wil know that I am in my Father and you in me and I in you.	20 In quel giorno voi riconoscerete che io sono nel Padre, voi in me ed io in voi.
21 Whoever holds to my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me; and whoever lovesme will be loved by my Father, and I shall love him and reveal myself to him.'	21 Chi ha i miei comandamenti e li osserva, è lui che mi ama. Colui che mi ama sarà amato dal Padre mio ed io lo amerò e manifesterò a lui me stesso".
22 Judas -- not Judas Iscariot -- said to him, 'Lord, what has happened, that you intend to show yourselfto us and not to the world?'	22 Gli dice Giuda, non l'Iscariota: "Signore, che è mai successo che tu stai per manifestare te stesso a noi e non al mondo?".
23 Jesus replied: Anyone who loves me wil keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shalcome to him and make a home in him.	23 Gli rispose Gesù: "Se qualcuno mi ama, osserverà la mia parola e il Padre mio lo amerà e verremo a lui e faremo dimora presso di lui.
24 Anyone who does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not my own: itis the word of the Father who sent me.	24 Colui che non mi ama, non osserva le mie parole. E la parola che voi ascoltate non è mia, ma del Padre che mi ha mandato".
25 I have said these things to you while still with you;	25 "Vi ho detto queste cose mentre rimango presso di voi.
26 but the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father wil send in my name, wil teach you everythingand remind you of al I have said to you.	26 Ma il Paraclito, lo Spirito Santo che il Padre manderà nel mio nome, egli vi insegnerà tutto e vi farà ricordare tutto ciò che vi ho detto.
27 Peace I bequeath to you, my own peace I give you, a peace which the world cannot give, this is mygift to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.	27 La pace vi lascio, la mia pace vi do. Non come la dà il mondo io ve la do. Non si turbi il vostro cuore e non si abbatta.
28 You heard me say: I am going away and shal return. If you loved me you would be glad that I amgoing to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.	28 Avete udito che vi ho detto: "Me ne vado e ritornerò da voi". Se mi amaste, godreste che io vado al Padre, perché il Padre è più grande di me.
29 I have told you this now, before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe.	29 Ve l'ho detto ora, prima che accada, affinché, quando accadrà, crediate.
30 I shall not talk to you much longer, because the prince of this world is on his way. He has no powerover me,	30 Io non m'intratterrò più a lungo con voi, perché viene il principe del mondo; egli però non ha alcuna presa su di me.
31 but the world must recognise that I love the Father and that I act just as the Father commanded.Come now, let us go.	31 Ma perché il mondo sappia che io amo il Padre e agisco come il Padre mi ha comandato, levatevi, partiamo di qui!".
