Deuteronomy 28

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 'But if you faithful y obey the voice of Yahweh your God, by keeping and observing al hiscommandments, which I am laying down for you today, Yahweh your God wil raise you higher than every othernation in the world,	1 Se ascolterai attentamente la voce del Signore tuo Dio osservando e mettendo in pratica tutti i suoi precetti che oggi ti ordino, il Signore tuo Dio ti renderà superiore a tutte le nazioni della terra,
2 and al these blessings wil befal and overtake you, for having obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God.	2 verranno su di te tutte queste benedizioni e ti raggiungeranno, poiché hai ascoltato la voce del Signore tuo Dio.
3 'You wil be blessed in the town and blessed in the countryside;	3 Benedetto tu nella città, benedetto tu nella campagna.
4 blessed, the offspring of your body, the yield of your soil, the yield of your livestock, the young of yourcattle and the increase of your flocks;	4 Benedetto il frutto del tuo seno, il frutto della tua terra, il frutto del tuo bestiame, i parti delle tue vacche e i nati del tuo gregge.
5 blessed, your basket and your kneading trough.	5 Benedetto il tuo cesto e la tua madia.
6 You wil be blessed in coming home, and blessed in going out.	6 Benedetto tu quando entri, benedetto tu quando esci.
7 The enemies who attack you, Yahweh wil defeat before your eyes; they wil advance on you from onedirection and flee from you in seven.	7 I nemici che insorgeranno contro di te, il Signore li metterà, vinti, in tuo potere; per una via ti usciranno contro, ma per sette vie fuggiranno davanti a te.
8 Yahweh wil command blessedness to be with you, on your barns and on al your undertakings, andhe wil bless you in the country given you by Yahweh your God.	8 Il Signore ordinerà che la benedizione sia con te, nei tuoi granai e in ogni impresa delle tue mani; ti benedirà sulla terra che il Signore tuo Dio ti dona.
9 'From you Yahweh wil make a people consecrated to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you keep thecommandments of Yahweh your God and fol ow his ways.	9 Se osservi i precetti del Signore tuo Dio e cammini per le sue vie, il Signore ti costituirà popolo a lui santo, come ti ha giurato.
10 The peoples of the world, seeing that you bear Yahweh's name, wil al be afraid of you.	10 Tutti i popoli della terra vedranno che il nome del Signore è invocato su di te e ti temeranno.
11 Yahweh wil make you abound in possessions: in the offspring of your body, in the yield of your cattleand in the yield of your soil, in the country which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you.	11 Il Signore ti farà abbondare di beni nel frutto del tuo seno, nel frutto del tuo bestiame e nel frutto della tua terra, sulla terra che ha giurato ai tuoi padri di darti.
12 For you Yahweh wil open his treasury of rain, the heavens, to give your country its rain at the righttime, and to bless al your labours. You wil make many nations your subjects, yet you wil be subject to none.	12 Il Signore ti aprirà il suo buon tesoro, il cielo, per dare la pioggia alla tua terra a tempo opportuno e per benedire ogni opera delle tue mani; tu presterai a molte nazioni, ma non prenderai prestiti.
13 Yahweh wil put you at the head, not at the tail; you wil always be on top and never underneath, ifyou listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, which I am laying down for you today, and then keepthem and put them into practice,	13 Il Signore ti metterà in testa e non in coda; ti eleverai e non ti abbasserai se ascolti i precetti del Signore tuo Dio che io oggi ti ordino affinché tu li osservi e li metta in pratica,
14 not deviating to right or to left from any of the words which I am laying down for you today, byfol owing other gods and serving them.	14 non devierai da nessuna delle parole che ti prescrivo né a destra né a sinistra, per seguire altri dèi e servirli.
15 'But if you do not obey the voice of Yahweh your God, and do not keep and observe all hiscommandments and laws which I am laying down for you today then all these curses wil befall and overtakeyou.	15 Ma se non ascolti la voce del Signore tuo Dio, osservando e mettendo in pratica tutti i suoi precetti e le sue prescrizioni che oggi ti ordino, verranno su di te e ti colpiranno tutte queste maledizioni.
16 'You wil be accursed in the town and accursed in the countryside;	16 Maledetto tu nella città, maledetto nel campo.
17 accursed, your basket and your kneading trough;	17 Maledetto il tuo cesto e la tua madia.
18 accursed, the offspring of your body, the yield of your soil, the young of your cattle and the increaseof your flock.	18 Maledetto il frutto del tuo seno e il frutto della tua terra, i parti delle tue vacche e i nati del tuo gregge.
19 You wil be accursed in coming home, and accursed in going out.	19 Maledetto quando entri, maledetto quando esci.
20 'Yahweh wil send a curse on you, a spel , an imprecation on al your labours until you have beendestroyed and quickly perish, because of your perverse behaviour, for having deserted me.	20 Il Signore manderà contro di te la maledizione, la costernazione e l'imprecazione in ogni impresa della tua mano, in ciò che farai, finché tu non sia distrutto e perisca rapidamente a causa della malvagità delle tue azioni, per cui mi hai abbandonato.
21 Yahweh wil fasten the plague on you, until it has exterminated you from the country which you areabout to enter and make your own.	21 Il Signore ti attaccherà la peste, finché ti consumi sulla terra alla quale tu vai per conquistarla.
22 Yahweh wil strike you down with consumption, fever, inflammation, burning fever, drought, wind-blast, mildew, and these wil pursue you to your ruin.	22 Il Signore ti colpirà con la consunzione, con la febbre, con l'infiammazione, con l'arsura, con la siccità, con la ruggine, con il pallore; esse ti perseguiteranno fino alla tua rovina.
23 The heavens above you wil be brass, the earth beneath you iron.	23 Il cielo sul tuo capo sarà di bronzo, la terra sotto di te sarà di ferro.
24 Your country's rain Yahweh wil turn into dust and sand; it will fal on you from the heavens until youperish.	24 Il Signore ti darà sabbia e polvere come pioggia per la tua terra: scenderà dal cielo su di te finché tu non sia distrutto.
25 Yahweh wil have you defeated by your enemies; you will advance on them from one direction andflee from them in seven; and you wil be a terrifying object-lesson to al the kingdoms of the world.	25 Il Signore ti farà soccombere dinanzi ai tuoi nemici: per una via gli uscirai contro, per sette vie fuggirai dinanzi a lui. Sarai oggetto di orrore per tutti i regni della terra;
26 Your carcase will be carrion for al wild birds and al wild animals, with no one to scare them away.	26 il tuo cadavere sarà cibo a tutti gli uccelli del cielo e alle bestie della terra; nessuno le caccerà.
27 'Yahweh wil strike you down with Egyptian ulcers, with swel ings in the groin, with scurvy and theitch, for which you wil find no cure.	27 Il Signore ti colpirà con le ulcere d'Egitto, con tumori, scabbia, rogna, da cui non potrai guarire.
28 Yahweh wil strike you down with madness, blindness, distraction of mind,	28 Il Signore ti colpirà di pazzia, di accecamento e di smarrimento di cuore;
29 until you grope your way at noon like a blind man groping in the dark, and your steps will lead younowhere. 'You will never be anything but exploited and plundered, with no one to save you.	29 andrai a tastoni in pieno meriggio come il cieco va a tastoni nelle tenebre. Non avrai successo per le tue vie, sarai solo oppresso e spogliato ogni giorno, senza nessuno che ti difenda.
30 Get engaged to a woman, another man will have her; build a house, you wil not live in it; plant avineyard, you wil not gather its first-fruits.	30 Sposerai una donna e un altro la possederà; edificherai una casa, ma non l'abiterai; pianterai una vigna, ma non ne coglierai i frutti.
31 Your ox wil be slaughtered before your eyes and you will eat none of it; your donkey wil be carriedoff in front of you and not be returned to you; your sheep wil be given to your enemies, and no one will come toyour help.	31 Il tuo bue sarà sgozzato sotto i tuoi occhi e non ne mangerai; il tuo asino ti sarà tolto dinanzi e non ritornerà da te; il tuo gregge sarà dato ai tuoi nemici, senza nessuno che ti difenda.
32 Your sons and daughters wil be handed over to another people, and every day you will wear youreyes out watching for them, while your hands are powerless.	32 I tuoi figli e le tue figlie saranno dati a un altro popolo; i tuoi occhi guarderanno e si struggeranno per loro, ma la tua mano non potrà far nulla.
33 A nation hitherto unknown to you wil eat the yield of your soil and of all your hard work. You wilnever be anything but exploited and crushed.	33 Un popolo che tu non conosci mangerà il frutto della tua terra e di tutta la tua fatica; sarai oppresso e schiacciato ogni giorno.
34 You wil be driven mad by the sights you wil see.	34 Diverrai pazzo davanti allo spettacolo che vedranno i tuoi occhi.
35 Yahweh wil strike you down with foul ulcers on knee and leg, for which you wil find no cure -- fromthe sole of your foot to the top of your head.	35 Il Signore ti colpirà con foruncoli maligni sulle ginocchia e sulle cosce, da cui non potrai guarire: dalla pianta dei piedi alla cima del capo.
36 'Yahweh wil send away both you and the king whom you have appointed to rule you to a nationunknown either to you or to your ancestors, and there you will serve other gods, made of wood and stone.	36 Il Signore condurrà te e il re che avrai costituito sopra di te in una nazione che né tu né i tuoi padri avete conosciuto; là servirai altri dèi, di legno, di pietra.
37 And you wil be the astonishment, the byword, the laughing-stock of al the peoples where Yahweh istaking you.	37 Sarai oggetto di stupore, di proverbio e di scherno per tutti i popoli fra i quali il Signore ti condurrà.
38 'You wil cast seed in plenty on the fields but harvest little, since the locust wil devour it.	38 Getterai nel campo molto seme ma raccoglierai poco, perché lo consumerà la locusta;
39 You wil plant and till your vineyards but not drink the wine or gather the grapes, since the grub willeat them up.	39 pianterai vigne e le lavorerai, ma non berrai vino e non vendemmierai, perché le divoreranno i vermi;
40 You wil grow olive trees throughout your territory but not anoint yourself with the oil, since your olivetrees wil be cut down.	40 avrai olivi in tutto il tuo territorio ma non ti ungerai di olio, perché le olive cadranno.
41 You wil father sons and daughters but they will not belong to you, since they wil go into captivity.	41 Genererai figli e figlie ma non ti apparterranno, perché andranno in prigionia.
42 Al your trees and the whole yield of your soil will be the prey of insects.	42 Tutti i tuoi alberi e i frutti della tua terra saranno preda degli insetti.
43 'The foreigners living with you wil rise higher and higher at your expense, while you yourself sinklower and lower.	43 Il forestiero che è in mezzo a te salirà sempre più in alto contro di te, mentre tu scenderai sempre più in basso;
44 You wil be subject to them, not they to you; they wil be the ones at the head, and you the one at thetail.	44 egli presterà a te, ma tu non presterai a lui; egli sarà in testa e tu sarai in coda.
45 'Al these curses wil befal you, pursue you and overtake you until you have been destroyed, for nothaving obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God by keeping his commandments and laws which he has laid downfor you.	45 Verranno su di te tutte queste maledizioni, ti inseguiranno e ti raggiungeranno, finché tu non sia distrutto, perché non avrai ascoltato la voce del Signore tuo Dio, osservando i precetti e le prescrizioni che ti ha ordinato.
46 They wil be a sign and a wonder over you and your descendants for ever.	46 Saranno un segno e un prodigio per te e per la tua discendenza, per sempre.
47 'For not having joyful y and with happy heart served Yahweh your God, despite the abundance ofeverything,	47 Poiché non hai servito il Signore tuo Dio con gioia e allegrezza di cuore a causa dell'abbondanza di ogni cosa,
48 you will have to serve the enemy whom Yahweh wil send against you, in hunger, thirst, lack ofclothing and total privation. He will put an iron yoke on your neck, until he has destroyed you.	48 servirai i nemici che il Signore ti manderà contro, nella fame, nella sete, nella nudità e nella privazione di ogni cosa. Porrà un giogo di ferro sul tuo collo, finché non ti abbia distrutto.
49 'Against you Yahweh wil raise a distant nation from the ends of the earth like an eagle taking wing: anation whose language you do not understand,	49 Il Signore solleverà contro di te una nazione lontana, dalle estremità della terra, che ti piomba addosso come l'aquila, nazione di cui non comprenderai la lingua,
50 a nation grim of face, with neither respect for the old, nor pity for the young.	50 nazione dall'aspetto duro, senza riguardo verso i vecchi e senza pietà verso i giovani.
51 He wil eat the yield of your cattle and the yield of your soil until you have been destroyed; he willleave you neither wheat, nor wine, nor oil, nor the young of your cattle, nor increase of your flock, until he hasmade an end of you.	51 Mangerà il frutto del tuo bestiame e il frutto della tua terra finché tu non sia distrutto; non ti lascerà né frumento né mosto né olio né i parti delle tue vacche né i nati del tuo gregge, finché non ti abbia fatto perire.
52 He wil besiege you inside al your towns until your loftiest and most strongly fortified walls collapse,on which, throughout your country, you have relied. He wil besiege you inside al the towns throughout yourcountry, given you by Yahweh your God.	52 Ti assedierà in tutte le tue città, fino al crollo delle tue mura alte e fortificate sulle quali confidavi, in tutta la tua terra; ti assedierà in tutte le tue città per tutta la terra che ti ha donato il Signore tuo Dio.
53 During the siege and in the distress to which your enemy wil reduce you, you wil eat the offspring ofyour own body, the flesh of the sons and daughters given you by Yahweh your God.	53 Nell'assedio e nell'angustia in cui ti ridurrà il nemico mangerai il frutto del tuo seno, la carne dei figli e delle figlie che ti ha dato il Signore tuo Dio.
54 The gentlest and tenderest of your men wil scowl at his brother, and at the wife whom he embraces,and at his remaining children,	54 Presso di voi l'uomo più tenero e più delicato guarderà con occhio malvagio il fratello, la donna del suo seno e il resto dei suoi figli che ha ancora risparmiato,
55 not wil ing to give any of them any of his own children's flesh, which he is eating; because of thesiege and the distress to which your enemy wil reduce you in all your towns, he wil have nothing left.	55 per non dare ad alcuno di loro la carne dei suoi figli che egli mangia, perché non gli rimarrà nulla nell'assedio e nell'angustia in cui ti ridurrà il nemico in tutte le tue città.
56 The most refined and fastidious of your women, so refined, so fastidious that she has never venturedto set the sole of her foot to the ground, wil scowl at the husband whom she embraces, and at her son anddaughter, and at the after-birth when it leaves her womb, and at the child to which she has given birth-	56 Presso di te la donna più tenera e più delicata, che non si sarebbe attentata a posare per terra la pianta del piede a causa della sua tenerezza e delicatezza, guarderà con occhio malvagio l'uomo del suo seno, il figlio e la figlia,
57 she will hide away and eat them, so complete wil be the starvation resulting from the siege and thedistress to which your enemy wil reduce you in all your towns.	57 la placenta che esce di mezzo ai suoi piedi e i figli che ha generato; perché li mangerà di nascosto nella privazione di tutto, nell'assedio e nell'angustia in cui ti ridurrà il nemico in tutte le tue città.
58 'If you do not keep and observe al the words of this Law, which are written in this book, in the fear ofthis glorious and awe-inspiring name: Yahweh your God,	58 Se non cercherai di praticare tutte le parole di questa legge scritte in questo libro, nel timore del nome glorioso e terribile del Signore tuo Dio,
59 Yahweh wil strike you down with monstrous plagues, you and your descendants: with plaguesgrievous and lasting, diseases pernicious and enduring.	59 il Signore colpirà te e la tua discendenza con straordinari flagelli, flagelli grandi e persistenti, infermità maligne e ostinate;
60 He wil afflict you with al the maladies of Egypt which you used to dread, and they wil fasten on you.	60 farà tornare su di te tutti i malanni d'Egitto, davanti ai quali ti sei spaventato, e si attaccheranno a te.
61 What is more, Yahweh wil afflict you with all the plagues and all the diseases not mentioned in thebook of this Law, until you have been destroyed.	61 Il Signore susciterà contro di te anche ogni altra infermità e ogni altro flagello che non è scritto nel libro di questa legge, finché tu sia distrutto.
62 There will only be a smal group of you left, you who were once as numerous as the stars of heaven.'For not having obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God,	62 Non resterete che in pochi uomini, mentre eravate numerosi come le stelle del cielo, perché non hai ascoltato la voce del Signore tuo Dio.
63 just as Yahweh used to delight in making you happy and in making your numbers grow, so wil hetake delight in ruining you and destroying you. You wil be torn from the country which you are about to enter andmake your own.	63 Come il Signore ha gioito a vostro riguardo, nel beneficarvi e nel moltiplicarvi, così egli gioirà a vostro riguardo nel farvi perire e distruggervi: sarete strappati dalla terra alla quale tu vai per conquistarla.
64 Yahweh wil scatter you throughout every people, from one end of the earth to the other; there youwil serve other gods made of wood and stone, hitherto unknown either to you or to your ancestors.	64 Il Signore vi disperderà tra tutti i popoli da un capo all'altro della terra e là servirai altri dèi che non hai conosciuto né tu né i tuoi padri, dèi di legno e di pietra.
65 Among these nations there wil be no repose for you, no rest for the sole of your foot; there Yahwehwil give you a quaking heart, weary eyes, halting breath.	65 Tra quelle nazioni non avrai requie né ci sarà posto per posare la pianta dei piedi; là il Signore ti darà un cuore agitato, occhi spenti e animo languente;
66 Your life ahead of you wil hang in doubt; you wil be afraid day and night, uncertain of your life.	66 la tua vita ti sarà dinanzi come sospesa a un filo; proverai spavento notte e giorno e non sarai sicuro della tua vita.
67 In the morning you wil say, "How I wish it were evening!", and in the evening you will say, "How I wish it were morning!", such terror will grip your heart and such sights you wil see!	67 Al mattino dirai: "Fosse sera!", e alla sera dirai: "Fosse mattino!", a causa dello spavento del tuo cuore che ti invaderà e dello spettacolo che i tuoi occhi vedranno.
68 Yahweh wil send you back to Egypt, either by ship or by a road which I promised you would neversee again. And there you wil want to offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as serving men and women, butno one wil buy you.'	68 Il Signore ti ricondurrà in Egitto per nave, per una via di cui ti avevo detto: "Mai più la rivedrai", e là vi venderete ai nemici come schiavi e come schiave; ma non ci sarà nessuno ad acquistarvi".
69 These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh ordered Moses to make with the Israelites inMoab, in addition to the covenant which he had made with them at Horeb.	69 Queste sono le parole dell'alleanza che il Signore ordinò a Mosè di concludere con i figli d'Israele nella terra di Moab, oltre l'alleanza che aveva concluso con loro sull'Oreb.
