Deuteronomy 28

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 'But if you faithful y obey the voice of Yahweh your God, by keeping and observing al hiscommandments, which I am laying down for you today, Yahweh your God wil raise you higher than every othernation in the world,	1 Or donc, si tu obéis vraiment à la voix de Yahvé ton Dieu, en gardant et pratiquant tous cescommandements que je te prescris aujourd'hui, Yahvé ton Dieu t'élèvera au-dessus de toutes les nations de laterre.
2 and al these blessings wil befal and overtake you, for having obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God.	2 Toutes les bénédictions que voici t'adviendront et t'atteindront; car tu auras obéi à la voix deYahvé ton Dieu.
3 'You wil be blessed in the town and blessed in the countryside;	3 Béni seras-tu à la ville et béni seras-tu à la campagne.
4 blessed, the offspring of your body, the yield of your soil, the yield of your livestock, the young of yourcattle and the increase of your flocks;	4 Bénis seront le fruit de tes entrailles, le produit de ton sol, le fruit de ton bétail, la portée detes vaches et le croît de tes brebis.
5 blessed, your basket and your kneading trough.	5 Bénies seront ta hotte et ta huche.
6 You wil be blessed in coming home, and blessed in going out.	6 Bénies seront tes entrées et bénies seront tes sorties.
7 The enemies who attack you, Yahweh wil defeat before your eyes; they wil advance on you from onedirection and flee from you in seven.	7 Des ennemis qui se dresseraient contre toi, Yahvé fera tes vaincus: sortis par un chemin à tarencontre, par sept chemins ils fuiront devant toi.
8 Yahweh wil command blessedness to be with you, on your barns and on al your undertakings, andhe wil bless you in the country given you by Yahweh your God.	8 Yahvé commandera à la bénédiction d'être avec toi, en tes greniers comme en tes travaux, etil te bénira dans le pays que te donne Yahvé ton Dieu.
9 'From you Yahweh wil make a people consecrated to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you keep thecommandments of Yahweh your God and fol ow his ways.	9 Yahvé fera de toi le peuple qui lui est consacré, ainsi qu'il te l'a juré, si tu gardes lescommandements de Yahvé ton Dieu et si tu marches dans ses voies.
10 The peoples of the world, seeing that you bear Yahweh's name, wil al be afraid of you.	10 Tous les peuples de la terre verront que tu portes le nom de Yahvé et ils te craindront.
11 Yahweh wil make you abound in possessions: in the offspring of your body, in the yield of your cattleand in the yield of your soil, in the country which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you.	11 Yahvé te fera surabonder de biens: fruit de tes entrailles, fruit de ton bétail et fruit de tonsol, sur cette terre qu'il a juré à tes pères de te donner.
12 For you Yahweh wil open his treasury of rain, the heavens, to give your country its rain at the righttime, and to bless al your labours. You wil make many nations your subjects, yet you wil be subject to none.	12 Yahvé ouvrira pour toi les cieux, son trésor excellent, pour donner en son temps la pluie àton pays, et pour bénir toutes tes oeuvres. Tu annexeras des nations nombreuses et toi, tu ne seras pas annexé.
13 Yahweh wil put you at the head, not at the tail; you wil always be on top and never underneath, ifyou listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, which I am laying down for you today, and then keepthem and put them into practice,	13 Yahvé te mettra à la tête et non à la queue, tu ne seras jamais qu'au-dessus et non point au-dessous, si tu écoutes les commandements de Yahvé ton Dieu, que je te prescris aujourd'hui, pour les garder etles mettre en pratique,
14 not deviating to right or to left from any of the words which I am laying down for you today, byfol owing other gods and serving them.	14 sans dévier à droite ni à gauche d'aucune de ces paroles que je vous prescris aujourd'hui, enallant suivre d'autres dieux et les servir.
15 'But if you do not obey the voice of Yahweh your God, and do not keep and observe all hiscommandments and laws which I am laying down for you today then all these curses wil befall and overtakeyou.	15 Mais si tu n'obéis pas à la voix de Yahvé ton Dieu, ne gardant pas ses commandements etses lois que je te prescris aujourd'hui, toutes les malédictions que voici t'adviendront et t'atteindront.
16 'You wil be accursed in the town and accursed in the countryside;	16 Maudit seras-tu à la ville et maudit seras-tu à la campagne.
17 accursed, your basket and your kneading trough;	17 Maudites seront ta hotte et ta huche.
18 accursed, the offspring of your body, the yield of your soil, the young of your cattle and the increaseof your flock.	18 Maudits seront le fruit de tes entrailles et le fruit de ton sol, la portée de tes vaches et lecroît de tes brebis.
19 You wil be accursed in coming home, and accursed in going out.	19 Maudites seront tes entrées et maudites tes sorties.
20 'Yahweh wil send a curse on you, a spel , an imprecation on al your labours until you have beendestroyed and quickly perish, because of your perverse behaviour, for having deserted me.	20 Yahvé enverra contre toi la malédiction, le maléfice et l'imprécation dans tous tes travaux,de sorte que tu sois détruit et que tu périsses rapidement, pour la perversité de tes actions, pour m'avoirabandonné.
21 Yahweh wil fasten the plague on you, until it has exterminated you from the country which you areabout to enter and make your own.	21 Yahvé attachera à toi la peste, jusqu'à ce qu'elle t'ait consumé sur cette terre où tu vas entrerpour en prendre possession.
22 Yahweh wil strike you down with consumption, fever, inflammation, burning fever, drought, wind-blast, mildew, and these wil pursue you to your ruin.	22 Yahvé te frappera de consomption, de fièvre, d'inflammation, de fièvre chaude, desécheresse, de rouille et de nielle, qui te poursuivront jusqu'à ta perte.
23 The heavens above you wil be brass, the earth beneath you iron.	23 Les cieux au-dessus de toi seront d'airain et la terre sous toi sera de fer.
24 Your country's rain Yahweh wil turn into dust and sand; it will fal on you from the heavens until youperish.	24 La pluie de ton pays, Yahvé en fera de la poussière et du sable; il en tombera du ciel sur toijusqu'à ta destruction.
25 Yahweh wil have you defeated by your enemies; you will advance on them from one direction andflee from them in seven; and you wil be a terrifying object-lesson to al the kingdoms of the world.	25 Yahvé fera de toi un vaincu en face de tes ennemis: sorti à leur rencontre par un chemin,par sept chemins tu fuiras devant eux, et tu deviendras un objet d'épouvante pour tous les royaumes de la terre.
26 Your carcase will be carrion for al wild birds and al wild animals, with no one to scare them away.	26 Ton cadavre sera la pâture de tous les oiseaux du ciel et de toutes les bêtes de la terre, sansque personne leur fasse peur.
27 'Yahweh wil strike you down with Egyptian ulcers, with swel ings in the groin, with scurvy and theitch, for which you wil find no cure.	27 Yahvé te frappera d'ulcères d'Egypte, de bubons, de croûtes, de plaques rouges dont tu nepourras guérir.
28 Yahweh wil strike you down with madness, blindness, distraction of mind,	28 Yahvé te frappera de délire, d'aveuglement et d'égarement des sens,
29 until you grope your way at noon like a blind man groping in the dark, and your steps will lead younowhere. 'You will never be anything but exploited and plundered, with no one to save you.	29 au point que tu iras à tâtons en plein midi comme l'aveugle va à tâtons dans les ténèbres, ettes démarches n'aboutiront pas. Tu ne seras jamais qu'exploité et spolié, sans personne pour te sauver.
30 Get engaged to a woman, another man will have her; build a house, you wil not live in it; plant avineyard, you wil not gather its first-fruits.	30 Tu prendras une femme comme fiancée, mais un autre homme la possédera; tu bâtiras unemaison, mais tu ne pourras l'habiter; tu planteras une vigne, mais tu n'en pourras cueillir les premiers fruits.
31 Your ox wil be slaughtered before your eyes and you will eat none of it; your donkey wil be carriedoff in front of you and not be returned to you; your sheep wil be given to your enemies, and no one will come toyour help.	31 Ton boeuf sera égorgé sous tes yeux, et tu n'en pourras manger; ton âne te sera enlevé en taprésence, et il ne te reviendra pas; tes brebis seront livrées à tes ennemis, et personne ne prendra ta défense.
32 Your sons and daughters wil be handed over to another people, and every day you will wear youreyes out watching for them, while your hands are powerless.	32 Tes fils et tes filles seront livrés à un autre peuple; chaque jour tes yeux se consumeront àregarder vers eux, et tes mains n'y pourront rien.
33 A nation hitherto unknown to you wil eat the yield of your soil and of all your hard work. You wilnever be anything but exploited and crushed.	33 Le fruit de ton sol et le fruit de ta peine, un peuple que tu ne connais pas les mangera. Tu neseras jamais qu'exploité et écrasé.
34 You wil be driven mad by the sights you wil see.	34 Ce que verront tes yeux te rendra fou.
35 Yahweh wil strike you down with foul ulcers on knee and leg, for which you wil find no cure -- fromthe sole of your foot to the top of your head.	35 Yahvé te frappera de mauvais ulcères aux genoux et aux jambes et tu n'en pourras guérir, dela plante des pieds au sommet de la tête.
36 'Yahweh wil send away both you and the king whom you have appointed to rule you to a nationunknown either to you or to your ancestors, and there you will serve other gods, made of wood and stone.	36 Toi et le roi que tu auras mis à ta tête, Yahvé vous mènera en une nation que tes pères ni toin'avez connue, et tu y serviras d'autres dieux, de bois et de pierre.
37 And you wil be the astonishment, the byword, the laughing-stock of al the peoples where Yahweh istaking you.	37 Tu seras la stupéfaction, la fable et la risée de tous les peuples où Yahvé te conduira.
38 'You wil cast seed in plenty on the fields but harvest little, since the locust wil devour it.	38 Tu jetteras aux champs beaucoup de semence pour récolter peu, car la sauterelle la pillera.
39 You wil plant and till your vineyards but not drink the wine or gather the grapes, since the grub willeat them up.	39 Tu planteras et travailleras ta vigne pour ne pas boire de vin ni rien recueillir, car le ver ladévorera.
40 You wil grow olive trees throughout your territory but not anoint yourself with the oil, since your olivetrees wil be cut down.	40 Tu auras des oliviers sur tout ton territoire, pour ne pas t'oindre d'huile, car tes oliviersseront abattus.
41 You wil father sons and daughters but they will not belong to you, since they wil go into captivity.	41 Tu engendreras des fils et des filles, mais ils ne t'appartiendront pas, car ils iront encaptivité.
42 Al your trees and the whole yield of your soil will be the prey of insects.	42 De tous tes arbres et de tous les fruits de ton sol l'insecte fera sa proie.
43 'The foreigners living with you wil rise higher and higher at your expense, while you yourself sinklower and lower.	43 L'étranger qui est chez toi s'élèvera à tes dépens de plus en plus haut, et toi tu descendras deplus en plus bas.
44 You wil be subject to them, not they to you; they wil be the ones at the head, and you the one at thetail.	44 C'est lui qui t'annexera, et tu ne pourras l'annexer; c'est lui qui sera à la tête, et toi à laqueue.
45 'Al these curses wil befal you, pursue you and overtake you until you have been destroyed, for nothaving obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God by keeping his commandments and laws which he has laid downfor you.	45 Toutes ces malédictions t'adviendront, te poursuivront et t'atteindront jusqu'à te détruire,quand tu n'auras pas obéi à la voix de Yahvé ton Dieu en gardant ses commandements et ses lois qu'il t'aprescrits.
46 They wil be a sign and a wonder over you and your descendants for ever.	46 Elles seront un signe et un prodige sur toi et sur ta postérité à jamais.
47 'For not having joyful y and with happy heart served Yahweh your God, despite the abundance ofeverything,	47 Puisque tu n'auras pas servi Yahvé ton Dieu dans la joie et le bonheur que donnel'abondance de toutes choses,
48 you will have to serve the enemy whom Yahweh wil send against you, in hunger, thirst, lack ofclothing and total privation. He will put an iron yoke on your neck, until he has destroyed you.	48 tu serviras l'ennemi que Yahvé enverra contre toi, dans la faim, la soif, la nudité, laprivation totale. Il imposera à ta nuque un joug de fer, jusqu'à ce qu'il t'ait détruit.
49 'Against you Yahweh wil raise a distant nation from the ends of the earth like an eagle taking wing: anation whose language you do not understand,	49 Yahvé suscitera contre toi une nation lointaine, des extrémités de la terre; comme l'aigle quiprend son essor. Ce sera une nation dont la langue te sera inconnue,
50 a nation grim of face, with neither respect for the old, nor pity for the young.	50 une nation au visage dur, sans égard pour la vieillesse et sans pitié pour la jeunesse.
51 He wil eat the yield of your cattle and the yield of your soil until you have been destroyed; he willleave you neither wheat, nor wine, nor oil, nor the young of your cattle, nor increase of your flock, until he hasmade an end of you.	51 Elle mangera le fruit de ton bétail et le fruit de ton sol, jusqu'à te détruire, sans te laisser nifroment, ni vin, ni huile, ni portée de vache ou croît de brebis, jusqu'à ce qu'elle t'ait fait périr.
52 He wil besiege you inside al your towns until your loftiest and most strongly fortified walls collapse,on which, throughout your country, you have relied. He wil besiege you inside al the towns throughout yourcountry, given you by Yahweh your God.	52 Elle t'assiégera dans toutes tes villes, jusqu'à ce que soient tombées tes murailles les plushautes et les mieux fortifiées, toutes celles où tu chercheras la sécurité dans ton pays. Elle t'assiégera dans toutesles villes, dans tout le pays que t'aura donné Yahvé ton Dieu.
53 During the siege and in the distress to which your enemy wil reduce you, you wil eat the offspring ofyour own body, the flesh of the sons and daughters given you by Yahweh your God.	53 Tu mangeras le fruit de tes entrailles, la chair de tes fils et de tes filles que t'aura donnésYahvé ton Dieu, pendant ce siège et dans cette détresse où ton ennemi te réduira.
54 The gentlest and tenderest of your men wil scowl at his brother, and at the wife whom he embraces,and at his remaining children,	54 Le plus délicat et le plus amolli d'entre les tiens jettera des regards malveillants sur sonfrère, et même sur la femme qu'il étreint et ceux de ses enfants qui lui resteront,
55 not wil ing to give any of them any of his own children's flesh, which he is eating; because of thesiege and the distress to which your enemy wil reduce you in all your towns, he wil have nothing left.	55 ne voulant partager avec aucun d'eux la chair de ses fils qu'il mange: car il ne lui resterarien, à cause du siège et de la détresse où ton ennemi te réduira dans toutes tes villes.
56 The most refined and fastidious of your women, so refined, so fastidious that she has never venturedto set the sole of her foot to the ground, wil scowl at the husband whom she embraces, and at her son anddaughter, and at the after-birth when it leaves her womb, and at the child to which she has given birth-	56 La plus délicate et la plus amollie des femmes de ton peuple, si délicate et amollie qu'ellen'aurait pas essayé de poser à terre la plante de son pied, celle-là jettera des regards malveillants sur l'hommequ'elle étreint, et même sur son fils ou sa fille,
57 she will hide away and eat them, so complete wil be the starvation resulting from the siege and thedistress to which your enemy wil reduce you in all your towns.	57 sur l'arrière-faix sorti de ses flancs et sur l'enfant qu'elle met au monde, et elle se cacherapour les manger, dans la privation de tout, à cause du siège et de la détresse où ton ennemi te réduira dans toutestes villes.
58 'If you do not keep and observe al the words of this Law, which are written in this book, in the fear ofthis glorious and awe-inspiring name: Yahweh your God,	58 Si tu ne gardes pas pour les mettre en pratique toutes les paroles de cette Loi écrites en celivre, dans la crainte de ce nom glorieux et redoutable: Yahvé ton Dieu,
59 Yahweh wil strike you down with monstrous plagues, you and your descendants: with plaguesgrievous and lasting, diseases pernicious and enduring.	59 Yahvé te frappera de ces fléaux étonnants, toi et ta descendance: fléaux grands etpersistants, maladies pernicieuses et tenaces.
60 He wil afflict you with al the maladies of Egypt which you used to dread, and they wil fasten on you.	60 Il fera revenir chez toi ces maux d'Egypte qui furent ta terreur, et ils s'attacheront à toi.
61 What is more, Yahweh wil afflict you with all the plagues and all the diseases not mentioned in thebook of this Law, until you have been destroyed.	61 Bien plus, tous les fléaux et maladies que ne mentionne pas le livre de cette Loi, Yahvé lessuscitera contre toi, jusqu'à te détruire.
62 There will only be a smal group of you left, you who were once as numerous as the stars of heaven.'For not having obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God,	62 Vous ne resterez que peu d'hommes, vous qui étiez aussi nombreux que les étoiles du ciel.Parce que tu n'auras pas obéi à la voix de Yahvé ton Dieu,
63 just as Yahweh used to delight in making you happy and in making your numbers grow, so wil hetake delight in ruining you and destroying you. You wil be torn from the country which you are about to enter andmake your own.	63 autant Yahvé avait pris plaisir à vous rendre heureux et à vous multiplier, autant il prendraplaisir à vous perdre et à vous détruire. Vous serez arrachés à la terre où tu vas entrer pour en prendrepossession.
64 Yahweh wil scatter you throughout every people, from one end of the earth to the other; there youwil serve other gods made of wood and stone, hitherto unknown either to you or to your ancestors.	64 Yahvé te dispersera parmi tous les peuples, d'un bout du monde à l'autre; là tu servirasd'autres dieux, que tes pères ni toi n'avez connus, du bois et de la pierre.
65 Among these nations there wil be no repose for you, no rest for the sole of your foot; there Yahwehwil give you a quaking heart, weary eyes, halting breath.	65 Parmi ces nations, tu n'auras pas de tranquillité et il n'y aura pas de repos pour la plante detes pieds, mais là Yahvé te donnera un coeur tremblant, des yeux éteints, un souffle court.
66 Your life ahead of you wil hang in doubt; you wil be afraid day and night, uncertain of your life.	66 D'avance la vie te sera une fatigue, tu seras dans l'effroi jour et nuit, sans pouvoir croire enta vie.
67 In the morning you wil say, "How I wish it were evening!", and in the evening you will say, "How I wish it were morning!", such terror will grip your heart and such sights you wil see!	67 Le matin tu diras: "Qui me donnerait d'être au soir?" Et le soir tu diras: "Qui me donneraitd'être au matin?" A cause de l'effroi qui étreindra ton coeur et du spectacle que verront tes yeux!
68 Yahweh wil send you back to Egypt, either by ship or by a road which I promised you would neversee again. And there you wil want to offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as serving men and women, butno one wil buy you.'	68 Yahvé te renverra en Egypte dans des vaisseaux ou par un chemin dont je t'avais dit: "Tu nele verras plus!" Et là vous irez vous vendre à tes ennemis comme serviteurs et servantes, sans trouver d'acheteur.
69 These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh ordered Moses to make with the Israelites inMoab, in addition to the covenant which he had made with them at Horeb.	69 Voici les paroles de l'alliance que Yahvé ordonna à Moïse de conclure avec les Israélites aupays de Moab, outre l'alliance qu'il avait conclue avec eux à l'Horeb.
