Deuteronomy 28

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 'But if you faithful y obey the voice of Yahweh your God, by keeping and observing al hiscommandments, which I am laying down for you today, Yahweh your God wil raise you higher than every othernation in the world,	1 Y si tú escuchas de verdad la voz de Yahveh tu Dios, cuidando de practicar todos los mandamientos que yo te prescribo hoy, Yahveh tu Dios le levantará por encima de todas las naciones de la tierra,
2 and al these blessings wil befal and overtake you, for having obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God.	2 y vendrán sobre ti y te alcanzarán todas las bendiciones siguientes, por haber escuchado la voz de Yahveh tu Dios.
3 'You wil be blessed in the town and blessed in the countryside;	3 Bendito serás en la ciudad y bendito en el campo.
4 blessed, the offspring of your body, the yield of your soil, the yield of your livestock, the young of yourcattle and the increase of your flocks;	4 Bendito será el fruto de tus entrañas, el producto de tu suelo, el fruto de tu ganado, el parto de tus vacas y las crías de tus ovejas.
5 blessed, your basket and your kneading trough.	5 Benditas serán tu cesta y tu artesa.
6 You wil be blessed in coming home, and blessed in going out.	6 Bendito serás cuando entres y bendito cuando salgas.
7 The enemies who attack you, Yahweh wil defeat before your eyes; they wil advance on you from onedirection and flee from you in seven.	7 A los enemigos que se levanten contra ti, Yahveh los pondrá en derrota: salidos por un camino a tu encuentro, por siete caminos huirán de ti.
8 Yahweh wil command blessedness to be with you, on your barns and on al your undertakings, andhe wil bless you in the country given you by Yahweh your God.	8 Yahveh mandará a la bendición que esté contigo, en tus graneros y en tus empresas, y te bendecirá en la tierra que Yahveh tu Dios te da.
9 'From you Yahweh wil make a people consecrated to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you keep thecommandments of Yahweh your God and fol ow his ways.	9 Yahveh hará de ti el pueblo consagrado a él, como te ha jurado, si tú guardas los mandamientos de Yahveh tu Dios y sigues sus caminos.
10 The peoples of the world, seeing that you bear Yahweh's name, wil al be afraid of you.	10 Todos los pueblos de la tierra verán que sobre ti es invocado el nombre de Yahveh y te temerán.
11 Yahweh wil make you abound in possessions: in the offspring of your body, in the yield of your cattleand in the yield of your soil, in the country which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you.	11 Yahveh te hará rebosar de bienes: frutos de tus entrañas, frutos de tu ganado, y frutos de tu suelo, en esta tierra que él juró a tus padres que te daría.
12 For you Yahweh wil open his treasury of rain, the heavens, to give your country its rain at the righttime, and to bless al your labours. You wil make many nations your subjects, yet you wil be subject to none.	12 Yahveh abrirá para ti los cielos, su rico tesoro, para dar a su tiempo la lluvia necesaria a tu tierra y para bendicir todas tus obras. Prestarás a naciones numerosas, y tú no tendrás que tomar prestado.
13 Yahweh wil put you at the head, not at the tail; you wil always be on top and never underneath, ifyou listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, which I am laying down for you today, and then keepthem and put them into practice,	13 Yahveh te pondrá a la cabeza y no a la zaga; siempre estarás encima y nunca debajo, si esuchas los mandamientos de Yahveh tu Dios, que yo te prescribo hoy, guardándolos y poniéndolos en práctica,
14 not deviating to right or to left from any of the words which I am laying down for you today, byfol owing other gods and serving them.	14 sin apartarte ni a derecha ni a izquierda de ninguna de estas palabras que yo os prescribo hoy, para ir en pos de otros dioses a servirles.
15 'But if you do not obey the voice of Yahweh your God, and do not keep and observe all hiscommandments and laws which I am laying down for you today then all these curses wil befall and overtakeyou.	15 Pero si desoyes la voz de Yahveh tu Dios, y no cuidas de practicar todos sus mandamientos y sus preceptos, que yo te prescribo hoy, te sobrevendrán y te alcanzarán todas las maldiciones siguientes:
16 'You wil be accursed in the town and accursed in the countryside;	16 Maldito serás en la ciudad y maldito en el campo.
17 accursed, your basket and your kneading trough;	17 Malditas serán tu cesta y tu artesa.
18 accursed, the offspring of your body, the yield of your soil, the young of your cattle and the increaseof your flock.	18 Maldito el fruto de tus entrañas y el fruto de tu suelo, el parto de tus vacas y las crías de tus ovejas.
19 You wil be accursed in coming home, and accursed in going out.	19 Maldito serás cuando entres y maldito cuando salgas.
20 'Yahweh wil send a curse on you, a spel , an imprecation on al your labours until you have beendestroyed and quickly perish, because of your perverse behaviour, for having deserted me.	20 Yahveh enviará contra ti la maldición, el desastre, la amenaza, en todas tus empresas, hasta que seas exterminado y perezcas rápidamente, a causa de la perversidad de tus acciones por las que me habrás abandonado.
21 Yahweh wil fasten the plague on you, until it has exterminated you from the country which you areabout to enter and make your own.	21 Yahveh hará que se te pegue la peste, hasta que te haga desaparecer de este suelo adonde vas a entrar para tomarlo en posesión.
22 Yahweh wil strike you down with consumption, fever, inflammation, burning fever, drought, wind-blast, mildew, and these wil pursue you to your ruin.	22 Yahveh te herirá de tisis, fiebre, inflamación, gangrena, sequía, tizón y añublo, que te perseguirán hasta que perezcas.
23 The heavens above you wil be brass, the earth beneath you iron.	23 Los cielos de encima de tu cabeza serán de bronce, y la tierra de debajo de ti será de hierro.
24 Your country's rain Yahweh wil turn into dust and sand; it will fal on you from the heavens until youperish.	24 Yahveh dará como lluvia a tu tierra polvo y arena, que caerán del cielo sobre ti hasta tu destrucción.
25 Yahweh wil have you defeated by your enemies; you will advance on them from one direction andflee from them in seven; and you wil be a terrifying object-lesson to al the kingdoms of the world.	25 Yahveh hará que sucumbas ante tus enemigos: salido a su encuentro por un camino, por siete caminos huirás de ellos, y serás el espanto de todos los reinos de la tierra.
26 Your carcase will be carrion for al wild birds and al wild animals, with no one to scare them away.	26 Tu cadáver será pasto de todas las aves del cielo y de todas las bestias de la tierra sin que nadie las espante.
27 'Yahweh wil strike you down with Egyptian ulcers, with swel ings in the groin, with scurvy and theitch, for which you wil find no cure.	27 Yahveh te herirá con úlceras de Egipto, con tumores, sarna y tiña, de las que no podrás sanar.
28 Yahweh wil strike you down with madness, blindness, distraction of mind,	28 Yahveh te herirá de delirio, ceguera y pérdida de sentidos,
29 until you grope your way at noon like a blind man groping in the dark, and your steps will lead younowhere. 'You will never be anything but exploited and plundered, with no one to save you.	29 hasta el punto que andarás a tientas en pleno mediodía como el ciego anda a tientas en la oscuridad, y tus pasos no llegarán a término. Estarás oprimido y despojado toda la vida, y no habrá quien te salve.
30 Get engaged to a woman, another man will have her; build a house, you wil not live in it; plant avineyard, you wil not gather its first-fruits.	30 Te desposarás con una mujer y otro hombre la hará suya; edficarás una casa y no la habitarás; plantarás una viña y no podrás disfrutar de ella.
31 Your ox wil be slaughtered before your eyes and you will eat none of it; your donkey wil be carriedoff in front of you and not be returned to you; your sheep wil be given to your enemies, and no one will come toyour help.	31 Tu buey será degollado a tus propios ojos, y no podrás comer de él; tu asno será robado en tu presencia, y no se te devolverá; tus ovejas serán entregadas a tus enemigos, y no habrá quien te salve;
32 Your sons and daughters wil be handed over to another people, and every day you will wear youreyes out watching for them, while your hands are powerless.	32 tus hijos y tus hijas serán entregados a otro pueblo; tus ojos se consumirán mirando todos los días hacia ellos, pero tus manos no podrán hacer nada.
33 A nation hitherto unknown to you wil eat the yield of your soil and of all your hard work. You wilnever be anything but exploited and crushed.	33 El fruto de tu suelo y toda tu fatiga lo comerá un pueblo que no conoces. No serás más que un explotado y oprimido toda la vida.
34 You wil be driven mad by the sights you wil see.	34 Y te volverás loco ante el espectáculo que verás con tus ojos.
35 Yahweh wil strike you down with foul ulcers on knee and leg, for which you wil find no cure -- fromthe sole of your foot to the top of your head.	35 Yahveh te herirá de úlceras malignas en las rodillas y en las piernas, de las que no podrás sanar, desde la planta de los pies hasta la coronilla de la cabeza.
36 'Yahweh wil send away both you and the king whom you have appointed to rule you to a nationunknown either to you or to your ancestors, and there you will serve other gods, made of wood and stone.	36 Yahveh te llevará a ti y al que hayas puesto sobre ti a una nación que ni tú ni tus padres conocíais, y allí servirás a otros dioses, de madera y de piedra.
37 And you wil be the astonishment, the byword, the laughing-stock of al the peoples where Yahweh istaking you.	37 Serás el asombro, el proverbio y la irrisión de todos los pueblos a donde Yahveh te conduzca.
38 'You wil cast seed in plenty on the fields but harvest little, since the locust wil devour it.	38 Echarás en tus campos mucha semilla y cosecharás poco, porque la asolará la langosta.
39 You wil plant and till your vineyards but not drink the wine or gather the grapes, since the grub willeat them up.	39 Plantarás y cultivarás viñas, pero no beberás vino ni recogerás nada, porque el gusano las devorará.
40 You wil grow olive trees throughout your territory but not anoint yourself with the oil, since your olivetrees wil be cut down.	40 Tendrás olivos por todo tu territorio, pero no te ungirás de aceite, porque tus olivos caerán.
41 You wil father sons and daughters but they will not belong to you, since they wil go into captivity.	41 Engendrarás hijos e hijas, pero no serán para ti, porque irán al cautiverio.
42 Al your trees and the whole yield of your soil will be the prey of insects.	42 Todos tus árboles y los frutos de tu suelo serán presa de los insectos.
43 'The foreigners living with you wil rise higher and higher at your expense, while you yourself sinklower and lower.	43 El forastero que vive junto a ti subirá a costa tuya cada vez más alto, y tú caerás cada vez más bajo.
44 You wil be subject to them, not they to you; they wil be the ones at the head, and you the one at thetail.	44 El te prestará, y tú tendrás que tomar prestado; él estará a la cabeza y tú a la zaga.
45 'Al these curses wil befal you, pursue you and overtake you until you have been destroyed, for nothaving obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God by keeping his commandments and laws which he has laid downfor you.	45 Todas estas maldiciones caerán sobre ti, te perseguirán y te alcanzarán hasta destruirte, por no haber escuchado la voz de Yahveh tu Dios, guardando los mandamientos y los preceptos que él te ha prescrito.
46 They wil be a sign and a wonder over you and your descendants for ever.	46 Serán como una señal y un prodigio sobre ti y sobre tu descendencia para siempre.
47 'For not having joyful y and with happy heart served Yahweh your God, despite the abundance ofeverything,	47 Por no haber servido a Yahveh tu Dios en la alegría y la dicha de corazón, cuando abundabas en todo,
48 you will have to serve the enemy whom Yahweh wil send against you, in hunger, thirst, lack ofclothing and total privation. He will put an iron yoke on your neck, until he has destroyed you.	48 servirás a los enemigos que Yahveh enviará contra ti, con hambre, sed, desnudez y privación de todo. El pondrá en tu cuello un yugo de hierro hasta que te destruya.
49 'Against you Yahweh wil raise a distant nation from the ends of the earth like an eagle taking wing: anation whose language you do not understand,	49 Yahveh levantará contra ti una nación venida de lejos, de los extremos de la tierra, como el águila que se cierne. Será una nación de lengua desconocida para ti,
50 a nation grim of face, with neither respect for the old, nor pity for the young.	50 una nación de rostro fiero, que no respetará al anciano ni tendá compasión del niño.
51 He wil eat the yield of your cattle and the yield of your soil until you have been destroyed; he willleave you neither wheat, nor wine, nor oil, nor the young of your cattle, nor increase of your flock, until he hasmade an end of you.	51 Comerá el fruto de tu ganado y el fruto de tu suelo, hasta destruirte; no te dejará trigo, mosto, ni aceite, ni los partos de tus vacas, ni las crías de tus ovejas, hasta acabar contigo.
52 He wil besiege you inside al your towns until your loftiest and most strongly fortified walls collapse,on which, throughout your country, you have relied. He wil besiege you inside al the towns throughout yourcountry, given you by Yahweh your God.	52 Te asediará en todas tus ciudades, hasta que caigan en toda tu tierra tus murallas más altas y más fortificadas, en las que tú ponías tu confianza. Te asediará en tus ciudades, en toda la tierra que te haya dado Yahveh tu Dios.
53 During the siege and in the distress to which your enemy wil reduce you, you wil eat the offspring ofyour own body, the flesh of the sons and daughters given you by Yahweh your God.	53 Comerás el fruto de tus entrañas, la carne de tus hijos y tus hijas que te haya dado Yahveh tu Dios, en el asedio y la angustia a que te reducirá tu enemigo.
54 The gentlest and tenderest of your men wil scowl at his brother, and at the wife whom he embraces,and at his remaining children,	54 El más delicado y tierno de entre los tuyos mirará con malos ojos a su hermano, e incluso a la esposa de su corazón y a los hijos que le queden,
55 not wil ing to give any of them any of his own children's flesh, which he is eating; because of thesiege and the distress to which your enemy wil reduce you in all your towns, he wil have nothing left.	55 negándose a compartir con ellos la carne de sus hijos que se comerá, al quedarle ya nada en el asedio y la angustia a que tu enemigo te reducirá en todas tus ciudades.
56 The most refined and fastidious of your women, so refined, so fastidious that she has never venturedto set the sole of her foot to the ground, wil scowl at the husband whom she embraces, and at her son anddaughter, and at the after-birth when it leaves her womb, and at the child to which she has given birth-	56 La más delicada y tierna de las mujeres de tu pueblo, tan delicada y tierna que no hubiera osado posar en tierra la planta de su pie, mirará con malos ojos al esposo de su corazón, e incluso a su hijo y a su hija,
57 she will hide away and eat them, so complete wil be the starvation resulting from the siege and thedistress to which your enemy wil reduce you in all your towns.	57 a las secundinas salidas de su seno y a los hijos que dé a luz, pues los comerá a escondidas, por la privación de todo, en el asedio y la angustia a que te reducirá tu enemigo en todas tus ciudades.
58 'If you do not keep and observe al the words of this Law, which are written in this book, in the fear ofthis glorious and awe-inspiring name: Yahweh your God,	58 Si no cuidas de poner en práctica todas las palabras de esta Ley escritas en este libro, temiendo a ese nombre glorioso y temible, a Yahveh tu Dios,
59 Yahweh wil strike you down with monstrous plagues, you and your descendants: with plaguesgrievous and lasting, diseases pernicious and enduring.	59 Yahveh hará terribles tus plagas y las de tu descendencia: plagas grandes y duraderas, enfermedades perniciosas y tenaces.
60 He wil afflict you with al the maladies of Egypt which you used to dread, and they wil fasten on you.	60 Hará caer de nuevo sobre ti aquellas epidemias de Egipto a las que tanto miedo tenías, y se pegarán a ti.
61 What is more, Yahweh wil afflict you with all the plagues and all the diseases not mentioned in thebook of this Law, until you have been destroyed.	61 Más todavía, todas las enfermedades y plagas que no se mencionan en el libro de esta Ley, las suscitará Yahveh contra ti, hasta destruirte.
62 There will only be a smal group of you left, you who were once as numerous as the stars of heaven.'For not having obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God,	62 No quedaréis más que unos pocos hombres, vosotros que erais tan numerosos como las estrellas del cielo, por haber desoído la voz de Yahveh tu Dios.
63 just as Yahweh used to delight in making you happy and in making your numbers grow, so wil hetake delight in ruining you and destroying you. You wil be torn from the country which you are about to enter andmake your own.	63 Y sucederá que lo mismo que Yahveh se complacía en haceros favor y en multoplicaros, así se gozará en perderos, y destruiros. Seréis arrancados del suelo adonde vas a entrar para tomarlo en posesión.
64 Yahweh wil scatter you throughout every people, from one end of the earth to the other; there youwil serve other gods made of wood and stone, hitherto unknown either to you or to your ancestors.	64 Yahveh te dispersará entre todos los pueblos, de un extremo a otro de la tierra, y allí servirás a otros dioses, de madera y de piedra, desconocidos de ti y de tus padres.
65 Among these nations there wil be no repose for you, no rest for the sole of your foot; there Yahwehwil give you a quaking heart, weary eyes, halting breath.	65 No hallarás sosiego en aquellas naciones, ni habrá descanso para la planta de tus pies, sino que Yahveh te dará allí un corazón trémulo, languidez de ojos y ansiedad de alma.
66 Your life ahead of you wil hang in doubt; you wil be afraid day and night, uncertain of your life.	66 Tu vida estará ante ti como pendiente de un hilo, tendrás miedo de noche y de día, y ni de tu vida te sentirás seguro.
67 In the morning you wil say, "How I wish it were evening!", and in the evening you will say, "How I wish it were morning!", such terror will grip your heart and such sights you wil see!	67 Por la mañana dirás: «¡Ojalá llegase la tarde!», y por la tarde dirás: «¡Ojalá llegase la mañana!», a causa del espanto que estremecerá tu corazón y del espectáculo que verán tus ojos.
68 Yahweh wil send you back to Egypt, either by ship or by a road which I promised you would neversee again. And there you wil want to offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as serving men and women, butno one wil buy you.'	68 Yahveh volverá a llevarte a Egipto en barcos, por ese camino del que yo te había dicho: «No volverás a verlo más». Y allí os ofreceréis en venta a vuestros enemigos como esclavos y esclavas, pero no habrá ni comprador.
69 These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh ordered Moses to make with the Israelites inMoab, in addition to the covenant which he had made with them at Horeb.	69 Estas son las palabras de la alianza que Yahveh mandó a Moisés concluir con los israelitas en el país de Moab, aparte de la alianza que había concluido con ellos en el Horeb.
