Deuteronomy 28

1 'But if you faithful y obey the voice of Yahweh your God, by keeping and observing al hiscommandments, which I am laying down for you today, Yahweh your God wil raise you higher than every othernation in the world,	1 - Che se tu ascolterai la voce del Signore Dio tuo, osservando ed eseguendo tutt'i suoi comandamenti che io oggi ti notifico, il Signore Dio tuo ti eleverà sopra tutti i popoli che son sulla terra.
2 and al these blessings wil befal and overtake you, for having obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God.	2 Verranno su di te tutte queste benedizioni, e saranno tue, purchè tu ascolti i suoi precetti:
3 'You wil be blessed in the town and blessed in the countryside;	3 Benedetto sarai tu nella città, e benedetto nella campagna;
4 blessed, the offspring of your body, the yield of your soil, the yield of your livestock, the young of yourcattle and the increase of your flocks;	4 benedetto il frutto del tuo seno, il frutto della tua terra, il frutto dei tuoi animali, le mandre de' tuoi armenti, ed i greggi delle tue pecore;
5 blessed, your basket and your kneading trough.	5 benedetti i tuoi granai, e benedette le tue riserve;
6 You wil be blessed in coming home, and blessed in going out.	6 benedetto sarai tu all'entrata ed all'uscita.
7 The enemies who attack you, Yahweh wil defeat before your eyes; they wil advance on you from onedirection and flee from you in seven.	7 Il Signore farà che i tuoi nemici levati contro di te cadano dinanzi a te; per una via verranno contro di te, e per sette fuggiranno dalla tua faccia.
8 Yahweh wil command blessedness to be with you, on your barns and on al your undertakings, andhe wil bless you in the country given you by Yahweh your God.	8 Manderà il Signore la sua benedizione sulle tue dispense e su tutt'i lavori delle tue mani, e benedirà te nella terra che tu conquisterai.
9 'From you Yahweh wil make a people consecrated to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you keep thecommandments of Yahweh your God and fol ow his ways.	9 Di te farà il Signore il popolo santo suo, come ti giurò, se osserverai i comandamenti del Signore Dio tuo, e camminerai per le sue vie.
10 The peoples of the world, seeing that you bear Yahweh's name, wil al be afraid of you.	10 Tutt'i popoli della terra vedranno che il nome del Signore è stato invocato sopra di te, e ti temeranno.
11 Yahweh wil make you abound in possessions: in the offspring of your body, in the yield of your cattleand in the yield of your soil, in the country which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you.	11 Il Signore ti farà abbondare d'ogni bene, dei frutti del tuo seno, de' frutti de' tuoi giumenti, de' frutti della tua terra che il Signore giurò ai tuoi padri di darti.
12 For you Yahweh wil open his treasury of rain, the heavens, to give your country its rain at the righttime, and to bless al your labours. You wil make many nations your subjects, yet you wil be subject to none.	12 Aprirà il Signore il più grande dei suoi tesori, il cielo, per dare alla tua terra, a' suoi tempi, la pioggia; benedirà tutt'i lavori delle tue mani. Tu darai a prestito a molti popoli, e da nessuno prenderai tu in prestito.
13 Yahweh wil put you at the head, not at the tail; you wil always be on top and never underneath, ifyou listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, which I am laying down for you today, and then keepthem and put them into practice,	13 Il Signore ti metterà in capo e non in coda, sarai sempre al di sopra, e non al di sotto; purchè però tu ascolti i comandamenti del Signore Dio tuo che io oggi ti bandisco, e tu li custodisca e li osservi,
14 not deviating to right or to left from any of the words which I am laying down for you today, byfol owing other gods and serving them.	14 non scostandotene nè a destra nè a sinistra, non andando dietro a dèi stranieri, nè onorandoli.
15 'But if you do not obey the voice of Yahweh your God, and do not keep and observe all hiscommandments and laws which I am laying down for you today then all these curses wil befall and overtakeyou.	15 Ma se non vorrai ascoltare la voce del Signore Dio tuo, osservando ed eseguendo tutti gli ordini e prescrizioni che io oggi ti dò, verranno sopra di te e ti coglieranno tutte queste maledizioni:
16 'You wil be accursed in the town and accursed in the countryside;	16 Sarai maledetto nella città, e maledetto nella campagna;
17 accursed, your basket and your kneading trough;	17 maledetto il tuo granaio, e maledette le tue riserve;
18 accursed, the offspring of your body, the yield of your soil, the young of your cattle and the increaseof your flock.	18 maledetto il frutto del tuo seno, il frutto della tua terra, le mandre de' tuoi bovi, ed i greggi delle tue pecore;
19 You wil be accursed in coming home, and accursed in going out.	19 sarai maledetto all'entrare, e maledetto all'uscire.
20 'Yahweh wil send a curse on you, a spel , an imprecation on al your labours until you have beendestroyed and quickly perish, because of your perverse behaviour, for having deserted me.	20 Manderà il Signore sopra di te la fame e la carestia, la maledizione su tutti i lavori che farai, sino ad annientarti e distruggerti in breve tempo, in pena degl'iniqui tuoi ritrovati, co' quali m'abbandonasti.
21 Yahweh wil fasten the plague on you, until it has exterminated you from the country which you areabout to enter and make your own.	21 Ti mandi il Signore la pestilenza, sinchè ti stermini di sulla terra della quale entrerai in possesso.
22 Yahweh wil strike you down with consumption, fever, inflammation, burning fever, drought, wind-blast, mildew, and these wil pursue you to your ruin.	22 Ti percuota il Signore con la povertà, la febbre, il freddo, il calore, l'arsura, l'aria corrotta e la ruggine, e ti perseguiti sino allo sterminio.
23 The heavens above you wil be brass, the earth beneath you iron.	23 Sia di bronzo il cielo sopra il tuo capo, e sia di ferro la terra sotto ai tuoi piedi.
24 Your country's rain Yahweh wil turn into dust and sand; it will fal on you from the heavens until youperish.	24 Mandi il Signore sulla tua terra la polvere come pioggia, e cada su te dal cielo la cenere, finchè tu sia consumato.
25 Yahweh wil have you defeated by your enemies; you will advance on them from one direction andflee from them in seven; and you wil be a terrifying object-lesson to al the kingdoms of the world.	25 Ti atterri il Signore dinanzi a' tuoi nemici; possa tu per una via muoverti contro a loro, e per sette fuggire e disperderli per tutt'i regni della terra.
26 Your carcase will be carrion for al wild birds and al wild animals, with no one to scare them away.	26 Serva il tuo cadavere di pasto a tutti gli uccelli del cielo e bestie della terra, nè vi sia chi li scacci.
27 'Yahweh wil strike you down with Egyptian ulcers, with swel ings in the groin, with scurvy and theitch, for which you wil find no cure.	27 Ti percuota il Signore con l'ulcera dell'Egitto, con scabbia e prurigine da cui tu non possa guarire, nelle parti posteriori.
28 Yahweh wil strike you down with madness, blindness, distraction of mind,	28 Ti percuota il Signore di frenesia, di accecamento e di delirio,
29 until you grope your way at noon like a blind man groping in the dark, and your steps will lead younowhere. 'You will never be anything but exploited and plundered, with no one to save you.	29 sì che tu vada a tasto di mezzogiorno, come va a tasto un cieco nelle tenebre, e tu non sappia trovar la tua strada. Che tu sostenga in ogni tempo calunnie, che tu sia oppresso con violenza, e tu non abbia chi ti liberi.
30 Get engaged to a woman, another man will have her; build a house, you wil not live in it; plant avineyard, you wil not gather its first-fruits.	30 Prenderai moglie, e con lei dormirà un altro; fabbricherai una casa, e non l'abiterai; pianterai una vigna, e non la vendemmierai;
31 Your ox wil be slaughtered before your eyes and you will eat none of it; your donkey wil be carriedoff in front of you and not be returned to you; your sheep wil be given to your enemies, and no one will come toyour help.	31 il tuo bove verrà ucciso davanti a te, e tu non ne mangerai; il tuo asino ti verrà portato via alla tua presenza, e non ti verrà reso; le tue pecore saran date ai tuoi nemici, e non vi sarà chi ti aiuti.
32 Your sons and daughters wil be handed over to another people, and every day you will wear youreyes out watching for them, while your hands are powerless.	32 I tuoi figliuoli e figliuole diverranno preda d'un altro popolo; i tuoi occhi li vedranno, e verranno meno nel rimirarli tutto il giorno, senza che tu abbia forza nelle mani;
33 A nation hitherto unknown to you wil eat the yield of your soil and of all your hard work. You wilnever be anything but exploited and crushed.	33 un popolo a te straniero divori i frutti della tua terra e di tutt'i tuoi lavori; sii tu sempre sottoposto alla calunnia, oppresso ogni giorno,
34 You wil be driven mad by the sights you wil see.	34 ed istupidito pel terrore delle cose che gli occhi tuoi vedranno.
35 Yahweh wil strike you down with foul ulcers on knee and leg, for which you wil find no cure -- fromthe sole of your foot to the top of your head.	35 Ti percuota il Signore con ulcere gravissime nei ginocchi e nei polpacci, senza che tu possa guarire dalla pianta de' piedi sino alla cima della testa.
36 'Yahweh wil send away both you and the king whom you have appointed to rule you to a nationunknown either to you or to your ancestors, and there you will serve other gods, made of wood and stone.	36 Il Signore farà cadere te, ed il re che ti eleggerai, in mano ad una nazione ignorata da te e da' padri tuoi; ivi servirai agli dèi stranieri, al legno ed alla pietra,
37 And you wil be the astonishment, the byword, the laughing-stock of al the peoples where Yahweh istaking you.	37 e sarai lo stupore, il proverbio e la favola di tutt'i popoli fra' quali ti disperderà il Signore.
38 'You wil cast seed in plenty on the fields but harvest little, since the locust wil devour it.	38 Seminerai in terra molto grano, e poco ne raccoglierai, perchè le locuste divoreranno ogni cosa;
39 You wil plant and till your vineyards but not drink the wine or gather the grapes, since the grub willeat them up.	39 scaverai e pianterai una vigna, e non ne beverai il vino, e nulla vi raccoglierai, perchè sarà devastata dai vermi;
40 You wil grow olive trees throughout your territory but not anoint yourself with the oil, since your olivetrees wil be cut down.	40 avrai le ulive entro tutt'i tuoi confini, e non potrai ungerti con l'olio, perchè cadranno ed andranno a male;
41 You wil father sons and daughters but they will not belong to you, since they wil go into captivity.	41 genererai figli e figlie, e non li godrai, perchè saranno condotti in schiavitù;
42 Al your trees and the whole yield of your soil will be the prey of insects.	42 la ruggine consumerà tutt'i tuoi alberi, e le mèssi della tua terra;
43 'The foreigners living with you wil rise higher and higher at your expense, while you yourself sinklower and lower.	43 il forestiero che teco abita nella regione s'innalzerà sopra di te, e ti supererà, e tu invece discenderai e gli resterai al di sotto;
44 You wil be subject to them, not they to you; they wil be the ones at the head, and you the one at thetail.	44 egli darà a prestito a te, e tu non presterai a lui; egli starà in capo, e tu in coda.
45 'Al these curses wil befal you, pursue you and overtake you until you have been destroyed, for nothaving obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God by keeping his commandments and laws which he has laid downfor you.	45 Verranno sopra di te tutte queste maledizioni, e t'inseguiranno e ti raggiungeranno sino a distruggerti, perchè non ascoltasti la voce del Signore Dio tuo, e non osservasti i suoi comandamenti, e le leggi che t'aveva imposte.
46 They wil be a sign and a wonder over you and your descendants for ever.	46 E saranno sopra di te e sopra la tua discendenza questi segni e prodigi, in eterno.
47 'For not having joyful y and with happy heart served Yahweh your God, despite the abundance ofeverything,	47 Poichè non servisti al Signore Dio tuo nell'allegrezza e letizia del cuore per l'abbondanza d'ogni cosa,
48 you will have to serve the enemy whom Yahweh wil send against you, in hunger, thirst, lack ofclothing and total privation. He will put an iron yoke on your neck, until he has destroyed you.	48 servirai al nemico che il Signore ti manderà contro, in fame e sete e nudità ed ogni miseria, ed esso porrà sul tuo collo un giogo di ferro, sino a schiacciarti.
49 'Against you Yahweh wil raise a distant nation from the ends of the earth like an eagle taking wing: anation whose language you do not understand,	49 Il Signore farà venire addosso a te un popolo lontano, dagli ultimi confini della terra, come aquila impetuosamente volante, e tu non intenderai la sua lingua;
50 a nation grim of face, with neither respect for the old, nor pity for the young.	50 popolo feroce, che non avrà riguardo pei vecchi nè compassione pei piccoli;
51 He wil eat the yield of your cattle and the yield of your soil until you have been destroyed; he willleave you neither wheat, nor wine, nor oil, nor the young of your cattle, nor increase of your flock, until he hasmade an end of you.	51 che divorerà il frutto del tuo bestiame ed i prodotti della tua terra, sì da farti perire; che non ti lascerà nè grano nè vino nè olio, nè mandre di bovi nè greggi di pecore, sino a disperderti
52 He wil besiege you inside al your towns until your loftiest and most strongly fortified walls collapse,on which, throughout your country, you have relied. He wil besiege you inside al the towns throughout yourcountry, given you by Yahweh your God.	52 e distruggerti in tutte le tue città, abbattendo in tutta la tua regione le tue mura solide ed eccelse, nelle quali riponevi la tua fiducia. Sarai assediato entro le tue porte in tutta la terra che il Signore Dio tuo ti darà;
53 During the siege and in the distress to which your enemy wil reduce you, you wil eat the offspring ofyour own body, the flesh of the sons and daughters given you by Yahweh your God.	53 e mangerai il frutto delle tue viscere, le carni de' tuoi figli e delle tue figlie che il Signore Dio tuo t'aveva dato, a causa dell'inedia e della devastazione con la quale il tuo nemico ti desolerà.
54 The gentlest and tenderest of your men wil scowl at his brother, and at the wife whom he embraces,and at his remaining children,	54 L'uomo tuo più delicato e lussuoso guarderà di mal occhio il suo fratello, e la moglie che gli sta al fianco,
55 not wil ing to give any of them any of his own children's flesh, which he is eating; because of thesiege and the distress to which your enemy wil reduce you in all your towns, he wil have nothing left.	55 negando di far parte a loro delle carni dei suoi figliuoli quando le mangerà, altro non avendo nell'angustia e desolazione alla quale i tuoi nemici ti ridurranno entro tutte le tue porte.
56 The most refined and fastidious of your women, so refined, so fastidious that she has never venturedto set the sole of her foot to the ground, wil scowl at the husband whom she embraces, and at her son anddaughter, and at the after-birth when it leaves her womb, and at the child to which she has given birth-	56 La donna tenera e delicata, che non s'attendeva di camminare e di posare il piede in terra, tanto era molle e delicata, negherà al marito che le sta al fianco la carne del figliuolo e della figliuola,
57 she will hide away and eat them, so complete wil be the starvation resulting from the siege and thedistress to which your enemy wil reduce you in all your towns.	57 e persino gl'invogli del feto e il feto stesso nato d'allora; perchè li mangerà essa di nascosto per la mancanza d'ogni cosa dovuta all'assedio ed alla devastazione con la quale il tuo nemico ti stringerà entro le tue porte.
58 'If you do not keep and observe al the words of this Law, which are written in this book, in the fear ofthis glorious and awe-inspiring name: Yahweh your God,	58 Se non custodirai ed osserverai tutt'i precetti di questa legge scritti in questo volume; se non temerai quel nome glorioso e terribile, cioè il Signore Dio tuo;
59 Yahweh wil strike you down with monstrous plagues, you and your descendants: with plaguesgrievous and lasting, diseases pernicious and enduring.	59 moltiplicherà il Signore le piaghe tue e le piaghe della tua discendenza, piaghe grandi e continue, infermità terribili ed inguaribili.
60 He wil afflict you with al the maladies of Egypt which you used to dread, and they wil fasten on you.	60 Rovescerà su di te tutt'i flagelli dell'Egitto de' quali tu avesti spavento, ed a te s'attaccheranno.
61 What is more, Yahweh wil afflict you with all the plagues and all the diseases not mentioned in thebook of this Law, until you have been destroyed.	61 Inoltre, anche tutte le malattie e piaghe che non son scritte nel volume di questa legge, il Signore le riverserà sopra di te, sino a distruggerti.
62 There will only be a smal group of you left, you who were once as numerous as the stars of heaven.'For not having obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God,	62 Rimarrete pochi di numero, voi che eravate numerosi come le stelle del cielo, poichè non ascoltaste la voce del Signore Dio tuo.
63 just as Yahweh used to delight in making you happy and in making your numbers grow, so wil hetake delight in ruining you and destroying you. You wil be torn from the country which you are about to enter andmake your own.	63 E come prima il Signore godeva su di voi, nel farvi del bene e nel moltiplicarvi, così godrà nel disperdervi e nello sterminarvi, scancellandovi di sulla terra della quale sei per entrare al possesso.
64 Yahweh wil scatter you throughout every people, from one end of the earth to the other; there youwil serve other gods made of wood and stone, hitherto unknown either to you or to your ancestors.	64 Il Signore ti disperderà fra tutte le nazioni, da un capo all'altro della terra, ed ivi tu servirai agli dèi stranieri che tu ed i padri tuoi ignorano, a legni ed a pietre.
65 Among these nations there wil be no repose for you, no rest for the sole of your foot; there Yahwehwil give you a quaking heart, weary eyes, halting breath.	65 Ed anche fra quelle genti non avrai pace, nè poseranno i tuoi piedi, perchè il Signore ivi ti farà aver impaurito il cuore, smarriti gli occhi, e consumata l'anima dalla tristezza.
66 Your life ahead of you wil hang in doubt; you wil be afraid day and night, uncertain of your life.	66 E la vita tua sarà per te come sospesa. Starai notte e giorno in timore e non crederai d'esser vivo.
67 In the morning you wil say, "How I wish it were evening!", and in the evening you will say, "How I wish it were morning!", such terror will grip your heart and such sights you wil see!	67 Al mattino dirai: - Chi mi darà che sia sera? - Ed alla sera: - Chi mi darà che sia mattina? - e ciò per lo spavento che atterrirà il tuo cuore, e per le cose che vedrai co' tuoi occhi.
68 Yahweh wil send you back to Egypt, either by ship or by a road which I promised you would neversee again. And there you wil want to offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as serving men and women, butno one wil buy you.'	68 Il Signore ti ricondurrà sulle navi in Egitto, per quella via della quale t'aveva detto che non l'avresti più riveduta. Ivi sarai messo in vendita, per fornire di schiavi e schiave i tuoi nemici; ma non si troverà chi ne compri».
69 These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh ordered Moses to make with the Israelites inMoab, in addition to the covenant which he had made with them at Horeb.
