Deuteronomy 2

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 'We then turned round and made for the desert, in the direction of the Sea of Suph, as Yahweh hadordered me. For many days we skirted Mount Seir.	1 Partindo dali, fomos para o deserto na direção do mar Vermelho, segundo a ordem do Senhor, e andamos muito tempo em torno do monte Seir.
2 Yahweh then said to me,	2 O Senhor então me disse:
3 "You have gone far enough round this mountain; now turn north.	3 basta de girar em volta deste monte; dirigi-vos para o norte.
4 And give the people this order: You are about to pass through the territory of your kinsmen, the sons ofEsau who live in Seir. They are afraid of you, and you wil be wel protected.	4 Ordena ao povo: atravessareis o território de vossos irmãos, os filhos de Esaú, que habitam em Seir. Eles têm medo de vós;
5 Do not provoke them, for I shall give you none of their land, no, not so much as a foot's length of it. Ihave given the highlands of Seir to Esau as his domain.	5 mas guardai-vos de entrar em luta contra eles, porque não vos darei nada de sua terra, nem mesmo a medida de um pé; é a Esaú que dei a propriedade das montanhas de Seir.
6 Pay them in money for what food you eat; and pay them in money for the water you drink.	6 Comprar-lhes-eis a preço de dinheiro o necessário para alimentar-vos, e pagareis mesmo a água que beberdes,
7 Yahweh your God has blessed you in al you do; he has watched over your journeying through this vastdesert. Yahweh your God has been with you these forty years and you have never been in want."	7 porque o Senhor teu Deu s te abençoou em todas as tuas empresas, e velou sobre ti durante a tua marcha através desse vasto deserto. Eis já quarenta anos que o Senhor teu Deus está contigo, e nada te faltou.
8 'So we passed beyond those relatives of ours, the children of Esau who live in Seir, by the road throughthe Arabah, Elath and Ezion-Geber; then, changing direction, we took the road towards the Plains of Moab.	8 Passamos, pois, ao longe de nossos irmãos, os filhos de Esaú, que habitam em Seir, evitando o caminho da planície, assim como Elat e Asiongaber. Voltamos e tomamos o caminho na direção do deserto de Moab.
9 Yahweh then said to me, "Do not attack Moab, do not provoke him to fight, for I shal give you none ofhis land, since I have given Ar to the children of Lot as their domain."	9 Então o Senhor me disse: não ataques os moabitas e não entres em guerra contra eles, porque não te darei nada de sua terra; foi aos filhos de Lot que dei Ar como herança.
10 (At one time the Emim lived there, a great and numerous people, tal as the Anakim;	10 { Outrora habitavam os e mim nessa terra. Era uni povo grande, numeroso e de alta estatura, como os enacim.
11 and, like the Anakim, they were considered to be Rephaim, though the Moabites cal them Emim.	11 Também eles eram considerados refaim, corno os enacim; irias os moabitas chamavam-nos emim.
12 The Horites, too, lived in Seir at one time; these, however, were dispossessed and exterminated bythe children of Esau who settled there in place of them, just as Israel has done in the country given to it byYahweh as a heritage.)	12 Em Seir habitavam também os horreus, os quais foram expulsos pelos filhos de Esaú. Estes, após os haverem exterminado, estabeleceram-se em seu lugar, como o fez Israel na terra que o Senhor lhe deu em possessão.}
13 "On your way, then! Cross the Wadi Zered!" 'And so we crossed the Wadi Zered.	13 Vamos, pois! Passai a torrente de Zered. Passamos então a torrente de Zered.
14 From Kadesh-Barnea to the crossing of the Wadi Zered our wanderings had taken thirty-eight years;as a result of which, the entire generation of those of age to bear arms had been eliminated, as Yahweh hadsworn to them.	14 Durou trinta e oito anos essa nossa viagem de Cades-Barne até a passagem da torrente de Zered. Entretanto, extinguiu-se do acampamento toda a geração dos homens de guerra, assim como o Senhor o tinha jurado.
15 Yahweh's hand had been against them, to eliminate them completely from the camp.	15 A mão do Senhor pesou sobre eles, e foram cortados do acampamento até a sua completa extinção.
16 'When death had carried off from the people those of age to bear arms, to the last man,	16 Depois que todos esses homens de guerra desapareceram do meio de seu povo, levados pela morte,
17 Yahweh said this to me,	17 o Senhor disse-me:
18 "You are now crossing Ar, the country of Moab,	18 passarás hoje a fronteira de Moab, Ar,
19 and soon you wil encounter the children of Ammon. Do not attack them, do not provoke them, for Ishall give you none of the land belonging to the children of Ammon as your domain. I have given it to thechildren of Lot as theirs."	19 e encontrar-te-ás em face dos amonitas. Não os ataques, nem lhes faças guerra, porque não te darei nada da sua terra; foi aos filhos de Lot que dei a possessão dessa terra.
20 (This used also to be considered as Rephaim territory; at one time the Rephaim lived there, thoughthe Ammonites call them Zamzummim,	20 {Também esta foi reputada terra dos refaim, chamados pelos amonitas de zanzomim,
21 a great and numerous people, and tal like the Anakim. Yahweh exterminated them for the Ammoniteswho dispossessed them and settled there in place of them,	21 povo grande, numeroso e de alta estatura como os enacim. Mas o Senhor exterminou-os diante dos amonitas, que os despojaram e habitaram em lugar deles.
22 just as he had done for the children of Esau who live in Seir, so that they dispossessed the Horitesand settled there instead of them and are stil there now.	22 Foi o que o Senhor tinha feito pelos filhos de Esaú, que habitam em Seir, destruindo os horreus diante deles. Despojaram-nos e estabeleceram-se em seu lugar, onde estão ainda hoje.
23 It was the same with the Avvites who occupied encampments as far as Gaza: the Caphtorim, comingfrom Caphtor, exterminated them and settled there instead.)	23 Da mesma sorte os heveus, que habitavam nas aldeias até Gaza, foram esmagados pelos caftorim, originários de Caftor, que se estabeleceram em seu lugar.}
24 "On your way! Break camp and cross the Wadi Arnon. See, I am putting Sihon the Amorite, king ofHeshbon, at your mercy, and his country too. Set about the conquest; engage him in battle.	24 Vamos! Desarmai as tendas e passai a torrente do Arnon. Vê: entrego-te nas mãos Seon, rei de Hesebon, o amorreu, com a sua terra. Começa a despojá-lo e faze-lhe guerra.
25 Today and henceforth, I shal fill the peoples under al heaven with fear and terror of you; whoeverhears word of your approach wil tremble and writhe in anguish because of you."	25 A partir de hoje começarei a derramar o temor e o terror de teu nome entre os povos que habitam debaixo de todos os céus, de sorte que só ao ouvir o teu nome eles tremerão e estarão em pânico por causa de ti.
26 'So, from the desert of Kedemoth I sent envoys to Sihon king of Heshbon with this peaceful message,	26 Então enviei do deserto de Cademot mensageiros a Seon, rei de Hesebon, com palavras de paz, dizendo:
27 "I intend to cross your country. I shal go my way, straying neither to right nor to left.	27 Deixa-me atravessar a tua terra; seguirei pela estrada comum, e não me desviarei nem para a direita nem para a esquerda.
28 I shal eat and pay for the food you choose to sell me, and I shall drink and pay for the water you letme have. I only want to march through,	28 Vender-me-ás por dinheiro o necessário para alimentar-me, e pagar-te-ei mesmo a água que eu beber. Deixa-me somente passar,
29 just as the children of Esau who live in Seir permitted, as wel as the Moabites who live in Ar, until Icross the Jordan into the country that Yahweh our God is giving us."	29 - como fizeram os filhos de Esaú que habitam em Seir, e os moabitas que habitam em Ar -, até que eu chegue ao Jordão e entre na terra que o Senhor nosso Deus nos dá.
30 'But Sihon king of Heshbon would not give us leave to pass through his territory; Yahweh our God hadmade his spirit obstinate and his heart stubborn, to put him at your mercy, as he stil is.	30 Mas Seon, rei de Hesebon, não consentiu que passássemos por sua terra; o Senhor, teu Deus, obcecara-lhe o espírito e endurecera-lhe o coração, a fim de entregá-lo em tuas mãos, como de fato aconteceu.
31 Yahweh said to me, "You see, I am starting to give you Sihon and his country. Begin the conquest byseizing his country."	31 O Senhor disse-me então: vê: estou pronto a entregar-te imediatamente Seon com a sua terra. Empreende a conquista e ocupa-lhe o território.
32 Sihon marched out against us, he and all his people, to give battle at Jahaz.	32 Seon saiu com todo o seu povo ao nosso encontro para pelejar contra nós em Jasa.
33 And Yahweh our God handed him over to us: we defeated him and his sons and al his people.	33 Mas o Senhor, nosso Deus, no-lo entregou e nós derrotamo-lo com os seus filhos e todo o seu povo.
34 We captured al his towns and laid al these towns under the curse of destruction: men, women andchildren, we left no survivors	34 Tomamos-lhe então todas as suas cidades, que votamos ao interdito, com os homens, as mulheres e as crianças, sem deixar escapar ninguém.
35 except the livestock which we took as our booty, and the spoils of the captured towns.	35 Só nos reservamos os animais e o espólio das cidades conquistadas.
36 From Aroer on the edge of the Arnon valley and from the town down in the val ey, as far as Gilead, notone town was beyond our reach; Yahweh our God delivered them al to us.	36 Desde Aroer, que está à margem da torrente do Arnon, e a cidade situada no vale, até Galaad, não houve lugar tão forte que nos pudesse resistir; o Senhor, nosso Deus, tudo nos entregou.
37 You did not, however, go near the country of the Ammonites, or the region of the River Jabbok, or thetowns in the highlands, or anywhere forbidden us by Yahweh our God.'	37 Somente não vos aproximastes da terra dos amonitas, nem de lugar algum situado às margens da torrente do Jaboc, nem das cidades da montanha, nem de nenhum dos lugares proibidos pelo Senhor, nosso Deus.
