Deuteronomy 2

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 'We then turned round and made for the desert, in the direction of the Sea of Suph, as Yahweh hadordered me. For many days we skirted Mount Seir.	1 Después dimos vuelta y nos pusimos en camino hacia el desierto, en dirección al Mar Rojo, como me lo había dicho el Señor. Durante muchos días estuvimos dando vueltas alrededor del macizo de Seír.
2 Yahweh then said to me,	2 Hasta que por fin el Señor me dijo:
3 "You have gone far enough round this mountain; now turn north.	3 «Basta ya de dar vueltas alrededor de esta montaña. Ahora diríjanse hacia el norte.
4 And give the people this order: You are about to pass through the territory of your kinsmen, the sons ofEsau who live in Seir. They are afraid of you, and you wil be wel protected.	4 Comunica esta orden al pueblo: Ustedes van a pasar por la región de Seír, donde viven sus hermanos, los descendientes de Esaú, los cuales desconfían de ustedes. Pero atiendan bien:
5 Do not provoke them, for I shall give you none of their land, no, not so much as a foot's length of it. Ihave given the highlands of Seir to Esau as his domain.	5 No los provoquen, porque yo no les daré nada de su territorio, no siquiera el espacio que ocupa la huella de una pisada, ya que el macizo de Seír se lo he dado en posesión a Esaú.
6 Pay them in money for what food you eat; and pay them in money for the water you drink.	6 Cómprenles con dinero el alimento que necesitan para comer, y páguenles también el agua que deban.
7 Yahweh your God has blessed you in al you do; he has watched over your journeying through this vastdesert. Yahweh your God has been with you these forty years and you have never been in want."	7 Porque el Señor, tu Dios, te ha bendecido en todas tus empresas, y te ha protegido mientras caminabas por este gran desierto. Ya hace cuarenta años que el Señor, tu Dios, está contigo y nunca te faltó nada».
8 'So we passed beyond those relatives of ours, the children of Esau who live in Seir, by the road throughthe Arabah, Elath and Ezion-Geber; then, changing direction, we took the road towards the Plains of Moab.	8 Por la ruta de la Arabá, que viene de Elat y de Esión Guéber, bordeamos la región de Seír, donde viven nuestros hermanos, los descendientes de Esaú. Luego dimos vuelta y tomamos el camino del desierto de Moab.
9 Yahweh then said to me, "Do not attack Moab, do not provoke him to fight, for I shal give you none ofhis land, since I have given Ar to the children of Lot as their domain."	9 Entonces el Señor me dijo: «Tampoco ataques a Moab ni lo provoques a la guerra, porque no te daré ninguna fracción de su territorio, ya que la posesión de Ar se la he dado a los descendientes de Lot».
10 (At one time the Emim lived there, a great and numerous people, tal as the Anakim;	10 –Antiguamente habían estado allí los emíes, un pueblo fuerte, numeroso y de elevada estatura como los anaquitas.
11 and, like the Anakim, they were considered to be Rephaim, though the Moabites cal them Emim.	11 Tanto ellos como los anaquitas eran tenidos por gigantes, pero los moabitas los llaman emíes.
12 The Horites, too, lived in Seir at one time; these, however, were dispossessed and exterminated bythe children of Esau who settled there in place of them, just as Israel has done in the country given to it byYahweh as a heritage.)	12 En Seír, en cambio, primero estuvieron los hurritas; pero los descendientes de Esaú los desposeyeron y los exterminaron, instalándose en lugar de ellos, como lo hizo Israel con la tierra que el Señor le dio en posesión–.
13 "On your way, then! Cross the Wadi Zered!" 'And so we crossed the Wadi Zered.	13 «Y ahora, ordenó el Señor, reanuden la marcha y crucen el torrente Zéred».
14 From Kadesh-Barnea to the crossing of the Wadi Zered our wanderings had taken thirty-eight years;as a result of which, the entire generation of those of age to bear arms had been eliminated, as Yahweh hadsworn to them.	14 Desde que salimos de Cades Barné hasta que cruzamos el torrente Zéred, transcurrieron treinta y ocho años: el tiempo suficiente para que muriera toda aquella generación de guerreros, como el Señor se lo había jurado.
15 Yahweh's hand had been against them, to eliminate them completely from the camp.	15 Porque el Señor puso su mano sobre ellos, hasta hacerlos desaparecer por completo del campamento.
16 'When death had carried off from the people those of age to bear arms, to the last man,	16 Cuando ya no quedó en medio del pueblo ninguno de aquellos guerreros –porque todos habían muerto–.
17 Yahweh said this to me,	17 El Señor me habló en estos términos:
18 "You are now crossing Ar, the country of Moab,	18 «Ahora vas a pasar por Ar, que está en las fronteras de Moab.
19 and soon you wil encounter the children of Ammon. Do not attack them, do not provoke them, for Ishall give you none of the land belonging to the children of Ammon as your domain. I have given it to thechildren of Lot as theirs."	19 Y luego te vas a enfrentar con los amonitas. No los ataques ni los provoques, porque yo no te daré en posesión ninguna fracción de su territorio, ya que se lo he dado en posesión a los descendientes de Lot».
20 (This used also to be considered as Rephaim territory; at one time the Rephaim lived there, thoughthe Ammonites call them Zamzummim,	20 –También este era considerado un país de gigantes. En efecto, allí habitaron antiguamente los gigantes que los amonitas llaman zamzumíes.
21 a great and numerous people, and tal like the Anakim. Yahweh exterminated them for the Ammoniteswho dispossessed them and settled there in place of them,	21 Eran un pueblo fuerte, numeroso y de elevada estatura como los anaquitas; pero el Señor los destruyó por medio de los amonitas, que los desposeyeron y se establecieron en lugar de ellos.
22 just as he had done for the children of Esau who live in Seir, so that they dispossessed the Horitesand settled there instead of them and are stil there now.	22 Lo mismo había hecho con los descendientes de Esaú, que habitan en Seír, cuando por medio de ellos destruyó a los hurritas; de esta manera, aquellos desposeyeron a los hurritas y se establecieron en su lugar hasta el día de hoy.
23 It was the same with the Avvites who occupied encampments as far as Gaza: the Caphtorim, comingfrom Caphtor, exterminated them and settled there instead.)	23 En cuanto a los avitas, que habitaban en los poblados hasta Gaza, fueron exterminados por los caftoritas, provenientes de Caftor, los cuales se establecieron en lugar de ellos–.
24 "On your way! Break camp and cross the Wadi Arnon. See, I am putting Sihon the Amorite, king ofHeshbon, at your mercy, and his country too. Set about the conquest; engage him in battle.	24 Luego el Señor añadió: «Reanuden la marcha y crucen el torrente Arnón. Yo te entrego a Sijón, rey de Jesbón, el amorreo, con todo su país. Prepárate para iniciar la conquista y provócalo a la guerra.
25 Today and henceforth, I shal fill the peoples under al heaven with fear and terror of you; whoeverhears word of your approach wil tremble and writhe in anguish because of you."	25 A partir de este momento, haré que el pánico y el terror se apoderen de todos los pueblos que están bajo el cielo: el que oiga hablar de ti, temblará y se estremecerá de espanto».
26 'So, from the desert of Kedemoth I sent envoys to Sihon king of Heshbon with this peaceful message,	26 Desde el desierto de Quedemot envié mensajeros a Sijón, rey de Jesbón, con la siguiente propuesta de paz:
27 "I intend to cross your country. I shal go my way, straying neither to right nor to left.	27 «Déjame pasar por tu país. Iré por el camino, sin desviarme ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda.
28 I shal eat and pay for the food you choose to sell me, and I shall drink and pay for the water you letme have. I only want to march through,	28 Véndeme las provisiones necesarias para comer, y darme también a cambio de dinero, agua para beber. Te pido solamente que me dejes pasar.
29 just as the children of Esau who live in Seir permitted, as wel as the Moabites who live in Ar, until Icross the Jordan into the country that Yahweh our God is giving us."	29 Como ya me han dejado los descendientes de Esaú, que viven en Seír, y los moabitas de Ar. Así podré cruzar el Jordán y llegar a la tierra que nos da el Señor, nuestro Dios».
30 'But Sihon king of Heshbon would not give us leave to pass through his territory; Yahweh our God hadmade his spirit obstinate and his heart stubborn, to put him at your mercy, as he stil is.	30 Pero Sijón, rey de Jesbón, se negó a dejarnos pasar por su territorio, porque el Señor, tu Dios, había ofuscado su espíritu y endurecido su corazón, a fin de ponerlo en tus manos, como lo está todavía hoy.
31 Yahweh said to me, "You see, I am starting to give you Sihon and his country. Begin the conquest byseizing his country."	31 Entonces el Señor me dijo: «He decidido entregarte a Sijón con todo su país. Empieza la conquista apoderándose de su territorio».
32 Sihon marched out against us, he and all his people, to give battle at Jahaz.	32 Sijón nos salió al paso con todas sus tropas, dispuesto a librarnos batalla en Iasá.
33 And Yahweh our God handed him over to us: we defeated him and his sons and al his people.	33 Pero el Señor lo puso en nuestras manos y lo derrotamos, a él con sus hijos y todas sus tropas.
34 We captured al his towns and laid al these towns under the curse of destruction: men, women andchildren, we left no survivors	34 Nos apoderamos de todas sus ciudades y las consagramos al exterminio, sacrificando a hombres, mujeres y niños, sin dejar ningún sobreviviente.
35 except the livestock which we took as our booty, and the spoils of the captured towns.	35 Nos reservamos como botín solamente el ganado y los despojos de las ciudades conquistadas.
36 From Aroer on the edge of the Arnon valley and from the town down in the val ey, as far as Gilead, notone town was beyond our reach; Yahweh our God delivered them al to us.	36 Desde Aroer, en la ribera del Arnón –incluyendo la ciudad que está en el valle– hasta Galaad, no hubo para nosotros ninguna ciudad inexpugnable: el Señor. nuestro Dios, nos entregó todo.
37 You did not, however, go near the country of the Ammonites, or the region of the River Jabbok, or thetowns in the highlands, or anywhere forbidden us by Yahweh our God.'	37 Pero no te acercaste al país de los amonitas: toda la ribera del torrente laboc, las ciudades de la montaña y todos los lugares que el Señor, nuestro Dios, te había prohibido.
