Deuteronomy 2

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 'We then turned round and made for the desert, in the direction of the Sea of Suph, as Yahweh hadordered me. For many days we skirted Mount Seir.	1 Luego nos volvimos y partimos hacia el desierto, por el camino del mar de Suf, como Yahveh me había mandado. Durante muchos días anduvimos rodeando la montaña de Seír.
2 Yahweh then said to me,	2 Yahveh me habló y me dijo:
3 "You have gone far enough round this mountain; now turn north.	3 «Ya habéis dado bastantes rodeos a esta montaña: dirigíos hacia el norte.
4 And give the people this order: You are about to pass through the territory of your kinsmen, the sons ofEsau who live in Seir. They are afraid of you, and you wil be wel protected.	4 Y da al pueblo esta orden: Vais a pasar por el territorio de vuestros hermanos, los hijos de Esaú, que habitan en Seír. Ellos os temen; pero vosotros tened mucho cuidado;
5 Do not provoke them, for I shall give you none of their land, no, not so much as a foot's length of it. Ihave given the highlands of Seir to Esau as his domain.	5 no los ataquéis, porque yo no os daré nada de su país, ni siquiera la medida de la planta del pie, ya que el monte Seír se lo he dado en posesión a Esaú.
6 Pay them in money for what food you eat; and pay them in money for the water you drink.	6 La comida que comáis se la compraréis por dinero, y por dinero les compraréis también el agua que bebáis.
7 Yahweh your God has blessed you in al you do; he has watched over your journeying through this vastdesert. Yahweh your God has been with you these forty years and you have never been in want."	7 Pues Yahveh tu Dios te ha bendecido en todas tu obras: ha protegido tu marcha por este gran desierto, y hace ya cuarenta años que Yahveh tu Dios está contigo sin que te haya faltado nada».
8 'So we passed beyond those relatives of ours, the children of Esau who live in Seir, by the road throughthe Arabah, Elath and Ezion-Geber; then, changing direction, we took the road towards the Plains of Moab.	8 Pasamos, pues, al lado de nuestros hermanos, los hijos de Esaú que habitan en Seír, por el camino de la Arabá, de Elat y de Esyón Guéber; después cambiando de rumbo, tomamos el camino del desierto de Moab.
9 Yahweh then said to me, "Do not attack Moab, do not provoke him to fight, for I shal give you none ofhis land, since I have given Ar to the children of Lot as their domain."	9 Yahveh me dijo: «No ataques a Moab, no le provoques al combate, pues yo no te daré nada de su país, ya que Ar se la he dado en posesión a los hijos de Lot.
10 (At one time the Emim lived there, a great and numerous people, tal as the Anakim;	10 (Antiguamente habitaban allí los emitas, pueblo grande, numeroso y corpulento como los anaquitas.
11 and, like the Anakim, they were considered to be Rephaim, though the Moabites cal them Emim.	11 Tanto a ellos como a los anaquitas se los tenía por refaítas, pero los moabitas los llamaban emitas.
12 The Horites, too, lived in Seir at one time; these, however, were dispossessed and exterminated bythe children of Esau who settled there in place of them, just as Israel has done in the country given to it byYahweh as a heritage.)	12 Igualmente en Seír habitaron antiguamente los joritas, pero los hijos de Esaú los desalojaron, los exterminaron y se establecieron en su lugar, como ha hecho Israel con la tierra de su posesión, la que Yahveh les dio.)
13 "On your way, then! Cross the Wadi Zered!" 'And so we crossed the Wadi Zered.	13 Y ahora, levantaos y pasad el torrente Zéred». Y pasamos el torrente Zéred.
14 From Kadesh-Barnea to the crossing of the Wadi Zered our wanderings had taken thirty-eight years;as a result of which, the entire generation of those of age to bear arms had been eliminated, as Yahweh hadsworn to them.	14 El tiempo que estuvimos caminando desde Cadés Barnea hasta que pasamos el torrente Zéred fue de 38 años; por lo que había desaparecido ya del campamento toda la generación de hombres de guerra, como Yahveh les había jurado.
15 Yahweh's hand had been against them, to eliminate them completely from the camp.	15 La misma mano de Yahveh había caído sobre ellos para extirparlos de en medio del campamento hasta hacerlos desaparecer.
16 'When death had carried off from the people those of age to bear arms, to the last man,	16 Cuando la muerte había hecho desaparecer a todos los hombres de guerra en medio del pueblo,
17 Yahweh said this to me,	17 Yahveh me habló y me dijo:
18 "You are now crossing Ar, the country of Moab,	18 «Vas a pasar hoy la frontera de Moab, por Ar,
19 and soon you wil encounter the children of Ammon. Do not attack them, do not provoke them, for Ishall give you none of the land belonging to the children of Ammon as your domain. I have given it to thechildren of Lot as theirs."	19 y vas a encontrarte con los hijos de Ammón. No los ataques ni les provoques; pues yo no te daré nada del país de los hijos de Ammón, ya que se lo he entregado a los hijos de Lot en posesión.
20 (This used also to be considered as Rephaim territory; at one time the Rephaim lived there, thoughthe Ammonites call them Zamzummim,	20 (También éste era considerado país de refaítas; los refaítas habitaron aquí antiguamente; y los ammonitas los llamaban zanzumitas,
21 a great and numerous people, and tal like the Anakim. Yahweh exterminated them for the Ammoniteswho dispossessed them and settled there in place of them,	21 pueblo grande, numeroso y corpulento como los anaquitas; Yahveh los exterminó ante los ammonitas, que los desalojaron y se establecieron en su lugar;
22 just as he had done for the children of Esau who live in Seir, so that they dispossessed the Horitesand settled there instead of them and are stil there now.	22 así había hecho también en favor de los hijos de Esaú, que habitaban en Seír, exterminando delante de ellos a los joritas; aquéllos los desalojaron y se establecieron en su lugar hasta el día de hoy.
23 It was the same with the Avvites who occupied encampments as far as Gaza: the Caphtorim, comingfrom Caphtor, exterminated them and settled there instead.)	23 Y también a los avitas, que habitan en los campos hasta Gaza; los kaftoritas, venidos de Kaftor, los exterminaron y se establecieron en su lugar).
24 "On your way! Break camp and cross the Wadi Arnon. See, I am putting Sihon the Amorite, king ofHeshbon, at your mercy, and his country too. Set about the conquest; engage him in battle.	24 Levantaos, partid y pasad el torrente Arnón. Mira, yo pongo en tus manos a Sijón, el amorreo, rey de Jesbón, y todo su país. Comienza la conquista; provócale al combate.
25 Today and henceforth, I shal fill the peoples under al heaven with fear and terror of you; whoeverhears word of your approach wil tremble and writhe in anguish because of you."	25 Desde hoy comienzo a infundir terror y miedo de ti entre todos los pueblos que hay debajo del cielo: al tener noticia de tu llegada temblarán todos y se estremecerán».
26 'So, from the desert of Kedemoth I sent envoys to Sihon king of Heshbon with this peaceful message,	26 Del desierto de Quedemot envié mensajeros a Sijón, rey de Jesbón, con estas palabras de paz:
27 "I intend to cross your country. I shal go my way, straying neither to right nor to left.	27 «Voy a pasar por tu país; seguiré el camino sin desviarme a derecha ni a izquierda.
28 I shal eat and pay for the food you choose to sell me, and I shall drink and pay for the water you letme have. I only want to march through,	28 La comida que coma véndemela por dinero, el agua que beba dámela por dinero; sólo deseo pasar a pie,
29 just as the children of Esau who live in Seir permitted, as wel as the Moabites who live in Ar, until Icross the Jordan into the country that Yahweh our God is giving us."	29 como me han dejado los hijos de Esaú que habitan en Seír y los moabitas que habitan en Ar, hasta cruzar el Jordán para ir hacia la tierra que nos da Yahveh nuestro Dios».
30 'But Sihon king of Heshbon would not give us leave to pass through his territory; Yahweh our God hadmade his spirit obstinate and his heart stubborn, to put him at your mercy, as he stil is.	30 Pero Sijón, rey de Jesbón, no quiso dejarnos pasar por allí porque Yahveh tu Dios le había empedernido el espíritu y endurecido el corazón, a fin de entregarle en tus manos, como lo está todavía hoy.
31 Yahweh said to me, "You see, I am starting to give you Sihon and his country. Begin the conquest byseizing his country."	31 Yahveh me dijo: «Mira, he comenzado a entregarte a Sijón y su país; empieza la conquista, apodérate de su territorio».
32 Sihon marched out against us, he and all his people, to give battle at Jahaz.	32 Sijón salió a nuestro encuentro con todo su pueblo, y nos presentó batalla en Yahás.
33 And Yahweh our God handed him over to us: we defeated him and his sons and al his people.	33 Yahveh nuestro Dios nos lo entregó y le derrotamos a él, a sus hijos y a todo su pueblo.
34 We captured al his towns and laid al these towns under the curse of destruction: men, women andchildren, we left no survivors	34 Nos apoderamos entonces de todas sus ciudades y consagramos al anatema toda ciudad: hombres, mujeres y niños, sin dejar superviviente.
35 except the livestock which we took as our booty, and the spoils of the captured towns.	35 Tan sólo guardamos como botín el ganado y los despojos de las ciudades tomadas.
36 From Aroer on the edge of the Arnon valley and from the town down in the val ey, as far as Gilead, notone town was beyond our reach; Yahweh our God delivered them al to us.	36 Desde Aroer, al borde del valle del Arnón, y la ciudad que está en el valle, hasta Galaad, no hubo ciudad inaccesible para nosotros; Yahveh nuestro Dios nos las entregó todas.
37 You did not, however, go near the country of the Ammonites, or the region of the River Jabbok, or thetowns in the highlands, or anywhere forbidden us by Yahweh our God.'	37 Unicamente respetaste el país de los ammonitas, toda la ribera del torrente Yabboq y las ciudades de la montaña, todo lo que Yahveh nuestro Dios había prohibido.
