Deuteronomy 2

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 'We then turned round and made for the desert, in the direction of the Sea of Suph, as Yahweh hadordered me. For many days we skirted Mount Seir.	1 - Partiti di li, venimmo nel deserto che conduce al Mar Rosso, come m'aveva detto il Signore; e per molto tempo girammo attorno al monte Seir.
2 Yahweh then said to me,	2 Poi il Signore mi disse:
3 "You have gone far enough round this mountain; now turn north.	3 - Avete girato abbastanza attorno a questo monte; andate verso settentrione.
4 And give the people this order: You are about to pass through the territory of your kinsmen, the sons ofEsau who live in Seir. They are afraid of you, and you wil be wel protected.	4 Al popolo comanderai, e dirai: "Voi passerete pei confini de' fratelli vostri figli d'Esaù che abitano in Seir, ed avranno di voi timore.
5 Do not provoke them, for I shall give you none of their land, no, not so much as a foot's length of it. Ihave given the highlands of Seir to Esau as his domain.	5 Guardate dunque ed abbiate cura di non muovere contro di loro; io infatti non darò a voi, della loro terra, nemmeno quant'è l'orma d'un solo piede, perchè assegnai già il monte Seir in possessione ad Esaù.
6 Pay them in money for what food you eat; and pay them in money for the water you drink.	6 Comprerete da loro a prezzo gli alimenti, e vi ciberete; pagherete l'acqua, e così l'attingerete e ne beverete". -
7 Yahweh your God has blessed you in al you do; he has watched over your journeying through this vastdesert. Yahweh your God has been with you these forty years and you have never been in want."	7 Il Signore Dio tuo ti ha benedetto in tutte le tue imprese [o Israele]; s'è preso cura del tuo viaggio; e quando hai traversato questo gran deserto, per quarant'anni il Signore Dio tuo ha abitato con te, e niente ti è mancato.
8 'So we passed beyond those relatives of ours, the children of Esau who live in Seir, by the road throughthe Arabah, Elath and Ezion-Geber; then, changing direction, we took the road towards the Plains of Moab.	8 Oltrepassati i fratelli nostri figliuoli d'Esaù che abitavano in Seir, per la via campestre, da Elat e da Asiongaber venimmo alla strada che conduce nel deserto di Moab.
9 Yahweh then said to me, "Do not attack Moab, do not provoke him to fight, for I shal give you none ofhis land, since I have given Ar to the children of Lot as their domain."	9 Ed il Signore mi disse: - Non combattere co' Moabiti, e non attaccar battaglia con loro; perchè non ti darò parte alcuna della loro terra, avendo dato Ar in possesso a' figli di Lot. -
10 (At one time the Emim lived there, a great and numerous people, tal as the Anakim;	10 Suoi primi abitanti furono gli Emim, razza grande e numerosa, e di così alta statura
11 and, like the Anakim, they were considered to be Rephaim, though the Moabites cal them Emim.	11 da parere giganti della stirpe degli Enacim, e da assomigliare ai figli d'Enac. Dopo, i Moabiti li hanno chiamati Emim.
12 The Horites, too, lived in Seir at one time; these, however, were dispossessed and exterminated bythe children of Esau who settled there in place of them, just as Israel has done in the country given to it byYahweh as a heritage.)	12 Quanto a Seir, v'abitarono prima gli Orrei; cacciati ed annientati questi, v'abitarono i figli d'Esaù, come ha fatto Israele nella terra ch'è suo possesso, datagli dal Signore.
13 "On your way, then! Cross the Wadi Zered!" 'And so we crossed the Wadi Zered.	13 Mossici dunque per attraversare il torrente Zared, v'arrivammo.
14 From Kadesh-Barnea to the crossing of the Wadi Zered our wanderings had taken thirty-eight years;as a result of which, the entire generation of those of age to bear arms had been eliminated, as Yahweh hadsworn to them.	14 Tutto il tempo che fummo in cammino da Cadesbarne al passaggio del torrente Zared, fu di trentott'anni, tanto che venisse a sparire dal campo tutta la generazione de' [primi] combattenti; così aveva giurato il Signore,
15 Yahweh's hand had been against them, to eliminate them completely from the camp.	15 e la sua mano fu contro di loro, per farli sparire di mezzo al campo.
16 'When death had carried off from the people those of age to bear arms, to the last man,	16 Quando poi tutti quei [primi] combattenti furon morti,
17 Yahweh said this to me,	17 il Signore mi parlò, e disse:
18 "You are now crossing Ar, the country of Moab,	18 - Tu oltrepasserai oggi i confini di Moab, e la città chiamata Ar.
19 and soon you wil encounter the children of Ammon. Do not attack them, do not provoke them, for Ishall give you none of the land belonging to the children of Ammon as your domain. I have given it to thechildren of Lot as theirs."	19 Entrando nelle adiacenze della terra dei figliuoli d'Ammon, bada bene di non combatter con loro nè d'entrar con loro in battaglia; perchè a te niente darò della terra de' figli d'Ammon, avendola data in possesso a' figli di Lot. -
20 (This used also to be considered as Rephaim territory; at one time the Rephaim lived there, thoughthe Ammonites call them Zamzummim,	20 È considerata come terra di giganti, ed in essa abitarono già dei giganti: quelli che gli Ammoniti chiamano Zomzommim,
21 a great and numerous people, and tal like the Anakim. Yahweh exterminated them for the Ammoniteswho dispossessed them and settled there in place of them,	21 popolo forte e numeroso, d'alta statura come gli Enacim. Ma il Signore li fece sterminare dagli Ammoniti, ed in vece loro vi fece abitar questi;
22 just as he had done for the children of Esau who live in Seir, so that they dispossessed the Horitesand settled there instead of them and are stil there now.	22 così aveva fatto co' figli d'Esaù che abitano in Seir, sterminando gli Orrei, e dando la loro terra a' figli d'Esaù che sino ad ora la posseggono.
23 It was the same with the Avvites who occupied encampments as far as Gaza: the Caphtorim, comingfrom Caphtor, exterminated them and settled there instead.)	23 Gli Evei poi, che abitavano in Haserim sino a Gaza, li cacciarono i Cappadoci, i quali, usciti dalla Cappadocia, li sterminarono, e vi si stabilirono in vece loro.
24 "On your way! Break camp and cross the Wadi Arnon. See, I am putting Sihon the Amorite, king ofHeshbon, at your mercy, and his country too. Set about the conquest; engage him in battle.	24 - Levatevi [disse il Signore], e passate il torrente Arnon; ecco, io ho abbandonato in tua mano Seon re di Hesebon, Amorreo; comincia ad invaderne la terra, ed attacca battaglia con lui.
25 Today and henceforth, I shal fill the peoples under al heaven with fear and terror of you; whoeverhears word of your approach wil tremble and writhe in anguish because of you."	25 Io comincerò oggi a spargere il terrore e lo spavento di te nei popoli che abitano sotto il cielo, così che, al solo udire il tuo nome, si spaventino e tremino, e sian presi da dolori come di partorienti. -
26 'So, from the desert of Kedemoth I sent envoys to Sihon king of Heshbon with this peaceful message,	26 Allora, dal deserto di Cademot mandai dei messi al re Seon in Hesebon, a dirgli in termini amichevoli:
27 "I intend to cross your country. I shal go my way, straying neither to right nor to left.	27 - Noi attraverseremo la tua terra, passeremo per la via maestra, non piegheremo nè a destra nè a sinistra;
28 I shal eat and pay for the food you choose to sell me, and I shall drink and pay for the water you letme have. I only want to march through,	28 vendici a prezzo gli alimenti di cui cibarci; dacci per danaro l'acqua che beveremo; basta che tu ci conceda il passaggio,
29 just as the children of Esau who live in Seir permitted, as wel as the Moabites who live in Ar, until Icross the Jordan into the country that Yahweh our God is giving us."	29 come fecero i figli di Esaù dimoranti in Seir, ed i Moabiti dimoranti in Ar, tanto che arriviamo al Giordano, e passiamo nella terra che il Signore Dio nostro è per darci.-
30 'But Sihon king of Heshbon would not give us leave to pass through his territory; Yahweh our God hadmade his spirit obstinate and his heart stubborn, to put him at your mercy, as he stil is.	30 Ma Seon re di Hesebon non volle concederci il passo, perchè il Signore Dio tuo [o Israele] aveva indurito il suo spirito e serrato il suo cuore, per abbandonarlo nelle tue mani, come ora vedi.
31 Yahweh said to me, "You see, I am starting to give you Sihon and his country. Begin the conquest byseizing his country."	31 Ed il Signore mi disse: - Ecco, io sto per abbandonarti Seon e la sua terra; preparati ad impossessartene.-
32 Sihon marched out against us, he and all his people, to give battle at Jahaz.	32 Mosse dunque Seon contro a noi con tutto il suo popolo, e ci dette battaglia in Iasa.
33 And Yahweh our God handed him over to us: we defeated him and his sons and al his people.	33 Il Signore Dio nostro lo dette in mano nostra, e lo sconfiggemmo, lui, i suoi figli, e tutto il suo popolo.
34 We captured al his towns and laid al these towns under the curse of destruction: men, women andchildren, we left no survivors	34 In quell'occasione, prendemmo tutte le sue città, uccidendone gli abitanti, uomini, donne e fanciulli; nulla in esse lasciammo,
35 except the livestock which we took as our booty, and the spoils of the captured towns.	35 eccetto gli animali, che furono dei predatori, ed il bottino delle città da noi prese.
36 From Aroer on the edge of the Arnon valley and from the town down in the val ey, as far as Gilead, notone town was beyond our reach; Yahweh our God delivered them al to us.	36 Da Aroer, città sulla riva del torrente Arnon situata nella valle, insino a Galaad, non vi fu villaggio o città che sfuggisse alle nostre mani. Tutte le dette il Signore Dio nostro a noi;
37 You did not, however, go near the country of the Ammonites, or the region of the River Jabbok, or thetowns in the highlands, or anywhere forbidden us by Yahweh our God.'	37 eccettuata la terra de' figliuoli d'Ammon alla quale non ci appressammo, e tutte le adiacenze del torrente Ieboc, le città di montagna, e tutti quei luoghi che il Signore Dio nostro ci aveva vietati.
