Deuteronomy 11

NEW JERUSALEM	MODERN HEBREW BIBLE
1 'You must love Yahweh your God and always keep his observances, his laws, his customs, hiscommandments.	1 ואהבת את יהוה אלהיך ושמרת משמרתו וחקתיו ומשפטיו ומצותיו כל הימים
2 You are the ones who have had the experience, not your children. They have not had the experience,they have not witnessed the lessons of Yahweh your God, his greatness, his mighty hand and his outstretchedarm,	2 וידעתם היום כי לא את בניכם אשר לא ידעו ואשר לא ראו את מוסר יהוה אלהיכם את גדלו את ידו החזקה וזרעו הנטויה
3 the signs and the deeds which he performed in the heart of Egypt, against Pharaoh king of Egypt andhis entire country,	3 ואת אתתיו ואת מעשיו אשר עשה בתוך מצרים לפרעה מלך מצרים ולכל ארצו
4 what he did to the armies of Egypt, to their horses and their chariots, by overwhelming them with thewaters of the Sea of Reeds when they were pursuing you, and leaving no trace of them to this day;	4 ואשר עשה לחיל מצרים לסוסיו ולרכבו אשר הציף את מי ים סוף על פניהם ברדפם אחריכם ויאבדם יהוה עד היום הזה
5 what he did for you in the desert, until you arrived here;	5 ואשר עשה לכם במדבר עד באכם עד המקום הזה
6 what he did to Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when, with al Israel standinground, the earth opened its mouth and swal owed them, with their families, their tents and al their supporters.	6 ואשר עשה לדתן ולאבירם בני אליאב בן ראובן אשר פצתה הארץ את פיה ותבלעם ואת בתיהם ואת אהליהם ואת כל היקום אשר ברגליהם בקרב כל ישראל
7 Al these great deeds of Yahweh you have seen with your own eyes.	7 כי עיניכם הראת את כל מעשה יהוה הגדל אשר עשה
8 'You must keep al the commandments which I enjoin on you today, so that you may have the strengthto conquer the country into which you are about to cross, to take possession of it,	8 ושמרתם את כל המצוה אשר אנכי מצוך היום למען תחזקו ובאתם וירשתם את הארץ אשר אתם עברים שמה לרשתה
9 and so that you may live long in the country which Yahweh promised on oath to bestow on yourancestors and their descendants, a country flowing with milk and honey.	9 ולמען תאריכו ימים על האדמה אשר נשבע יהוה לאבתיכם לתת להם ולזרעם ארץ זבת חלב ודבש
10 'For the country which you are about to enter and make your own is not like the country of Egyptfrom which you have come, where, having done your sowing, you had to water the seed by foot, as though in avegetable garden.	10 כי הארץ אשר אתה בא שמה לרשתה לא כארץ מצרים הוא אשר יצאתם משם אשר תזרע את זרעך והשקית ברגלך כגן הירק
11 No, the country which you are about to enter and make your own, is a country of hills and val eyswatered by the rain of heaven.	11 והארץ אשר אתם עברים שמה לרשתה ארץ הרים ובקעת למטר השמים תשתה מים
12 Yahweh your God looks after this country, the eyes of Yahweh your God are always on it, from thebeginning of the year to the end.	12 ארץ אשר יהוה אלהיך דרש אתה תמיד עיני יהוה אלהיך בה מרשית השנה ועד אחרית שנה
13 Depend on it: if you faithfully obey the commandments I enjoin on you today, loving Yahweh yourGod and serving him with al your heart and al your soul,	13 והיה אם שמע תשמעו אל מצותי אשר אנכי מצוה אתכם היום לאהבה את יהוה אלהיכם ולעבדו בכל לבבכם ובכל נפשכם
14 I shal give your country rain at the right time, rain in autumn, rain in spring, so that you can harvestyour wheat, your new wine and your oil.	14 ונתתי מטר ארצכם בעתו יורה ומלקוש ואספת דגנך ותירשך ויצהרך
15 I shal provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat to your heart's content.	15 ונתתי עשב בשדך לבהמתך ואכלת ושבעת
16 Beware of letting your heart be seduced: if you go astray, serve other gods and bow down to them,	16 השמרו לכם פן יפתה לבבכם וסרתם ועבדתם אלהים אחרים והשתחויתם להם
17 Yahweh's anger wil be kindled against you, he wil shut the heavens, there wil be no more rain, thesoil wil not yield its produce and, in the fine country given you by Yahweh, you wil quickly perish.	17 וחרה אף יהוה בכם ועצר את השמים ולא יהיה מטר והאדמה לא תתן את יבולה ואבדתם מהרה מעל הארץ הטבה אשר יהוה נתן לכם
18 'Let these words of mine remain in your heart and in your soul; fasten them on your hand as a signand on your forehead as a headband.	18 ושמתם את דברי אלה על לבבכם ועל נפשכם וקשרתם אתם לאות על ידכם והיו לטוטפת בין עיניכם
19 Teach them to your children, and keep on tel ing them, when you are sitting at home, when you areout and about, when you are lying down and when you are standing up.	19 ולמדתם אתם את בניכם לדבר בם בשבתך בביתך ובלכתך בדרך ובשכבך ובקומך
20 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates,	20 וכתבתם על מזוזות ביתך ובשעריך
21 so that you and your children may live long in the country which Yahweh swore to your ancestorsthat he would give them for as long as there is a sky above the earth.	21 למען ירבו ימיכם וימי בניכם על האדמה אשר נשבע יהוה לאבתיכם לתת להם כימי השמים על הארץ
22 'For if you faithful y keep and observe al these commandments that I enjoin on you today, lovingYahweh your God, following all his ways and holding fast to him,	22 כי אם שמר תשמרון את כל המצוה הזאת אשר אנכי מצוה אתכם לעשתה לאהבה את יהוה אלהיכם ללכת בכל דרכיו ולדבקה בו
23 Yahweh wil dispossess al these nations before you, and you wil dispossess nations greater andmore powerful than yourselves.	23 והוריש יהוה את כל הגוים האלה מלפניכם וירשתם גוים גדלים ועצמים מכם
24 Wherever the sole of your foot treads wil be yours; your territory will run from the desert al the wayto the Lebanon; and from the River, from the River Euphrates, as far as the Western Sea, wil be your territory.	24 כל המקום אשר תדרך כף רגלכם בו לכם יהיה מן המדבר והלבנון מן הנהר נהר פרת ועד הים האחרון יהיה גבלכם
25 No one wil be able to resist you; Yahweh your God will make you feared and dreaded throughout theterritory you tread, as he has promised you.	25 לא יתיצב איש בפניכם פחדכם ומוראכם יתן יהוה אלהיכם על פני כל הארץ אשר תדרכו בה כאשר דבר לכם
26 'Today, look, I am offering you a blessing and a curse:	26 ראה אנכי נתן לפניכם היום ברכה וקללה
27 a blessing, if you obey the commandments of Yahweh your God which I enjoin on you today;	27 את הברכה אשר תשמעו אל מצות יהוה אלהיכם אשר אנכי מצוה אתכם היום
28 a curse, if you disobey the commandments of Yahweh your God and leave the way which today Ihave marked out for you, by following other gods hitherto unknown to you.	28 והקללה אם לא תשמעו אל מצות יהוה אלהיכם וסרתם מן הדרך אשר אנכי מצוה אתכם היום ללכת אחרי אלהים אחרים אשר לא ידעתם
29 And when Yahweh your God has brought you into the country which you are about to enter andmake your own, you must set the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.	29 והיה כי יביאך יהוה אלהיך אל הארץ אשר אתה בא שמה לרשתה ונתתה את הברכה על הר גרזים ואת הקללה על הר עיבל
30 (These mountains, as everyone knows, are on the other side of the Jordan on the westward road, inthe territory of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, near the Oak of Moreh.)	30 הלא המה בעבר הירדן אחרי דרך מבוא השמש בארץ הכנעני הישב בערבה מול הגלגל אצל אלוני מרה
31 For you are about to cross the Jordan, to enter and take possession of the country given you byYahweh your God. You wil possess it, you wil live in it,	31 כי אתם עברים את הירדן לבא לרשת את הארץ אשר יהוה אלהיכם נתן לכם וירשתם אתה וישבתם בה
32 and you must keep and observe al the laws and customs promulgated by me to you today.'	32 ושמרתם לעשות את כל החקים ואת המשפטים אשר אנכי נתן לפניכם היום
