Deuteronomy 11

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 'You must love Yahweh your God and always keep his observances, his laws, his customs, hiscommandments.	1 Ama itaque Dominum Deum tuum et custodi obser vationem eius et praecepta, iudicia atque mandata omni tempore.
2 You are the ones who have had the experience, not your children. They have not had the experience,they have not witnessed the lessons of Yahweh your God, his greatness, his mighty hand and his outstretchedarm,	2 Cognoscite hodie, quae ignorant filii vestri, qui non viderunt disciplinam Domini Dei vestri, magnalia eius et robustam manum extentumque brachium,
3 the signs and the deeds which he performed in the heart of Egypt, against Pharaoh king of Egypt andhis entire country,	3 signa et opera, quae fecit in medio Aegypti pharaoni regi et universae terrae eius
4 what he did to the armies of Egypt, to their horses and their chariots, by overwhelming them with thewaters of the Sea of Reeds when they were pursuing you, and leaving no trace of them to this day;	4 omnique exercitui Aegyptiorum et equis ac curribus; quomodo operuerint eos aquae maris Rubri, cum vos persequerentur, et deleverit eos Dominus usque in praesentem diem;
5 what he did for you in the desert, until you arrived here;	5 vobisque, quae fecerit in solitudine, donec veniretis ad hunc locum;
6 what he did to Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when, with al Israel standinground, the earth opened its mouth and swal owed them, with their families, their tents and al their supporters.	6 et Dathan atque Abiram filiis Eliab, qui fuit filius Ruben, quos aperto ore suo terra absorbuit cum domibus et tabernaculis et universa substantia eorum, quam habebant in medio Israel.
7 Al these great deeds of Yahweh you have seen with your own eyes.	7 Oculi vestri viderunt omnia opera Domini magna, quae fecit,
8 'You must keep al the commandments which I enjoin on you today, so that you may have the strengthto conquer the country into which you are about to cross, to take possession of it,	8 ut custodiatis universa mandata, quae ego hodie praecipio vobis, ut roboremini et possitis introire et possidere terram, ad quam ingredimini,
9 and so that you may live long in the country which Yahweh promised on oath to bestow on yourancestors and their descendants, a country flowing with milk and honey.	9 multoque in ea vivatis tempore, quam sub iuramento pollicitus est Dominus patribus vestris et semini eorum, lacte et melle manantem.
10 'For the country which you are about to enter and make your own is not like the country of Egyptfrom which you have come, where, having done your sowing, you had to water the seed by foot, as though in avegetable garden.	10 Terra enim, ad quam ingredieris possidendam, non est sicut terra Aegypti, de qua existis, ubi, iacto semine, in hortorum morem aquae pede ducuntur irriguae;
11 No, the country which you are about to enter and make your own, is a country of hills and val eyswatered by the rain of heaven.	11 sed montuosa est et campestris, de caelo exspectans pluvias,
12 Yahweh your God looks after this country, the eyes of Yahweh your God are always on it, from thebeginning of the year to the end.	12 quam Dominus Deus tuus semper invisit, et oculi illius in ea sunt a principio anni usque ad finem eius.
13 Depend on it: if you faithfully obey the commandments I enjoin on you today, loving Yahweh yourGod and serving him with al your heart and al your soul,	13 Si ergo oboedieritis mandatis meis, quae hodie praecipio vobis, ut diligatis Dominum Deum vestrum et serviatis ei in toto corde vestro et in tota anima vestra,
14 I shal give your country rain at the right time, rain in autumn, rain in spring, so that you can harvestyour wheat, your new wine and your oil.	14 dabo pluviam terrae vestrae temporaneam et serotinam in tempore suo, ut colligas frumentum et vinum et oleum,
15 I shal provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat to your heart's content.	15 et dabit fenum ex agris ad pascenda iumenta, et ut ipse comedas ac satureris.
16 Beware of letting your heart be seduced: if you go astray, serve other gods and bow down to them,	16 Cavete, ne decipiatur cor vestrum, et recedatis a Domino serviatisque diis alienis et adoretis eos,
17 Yahweh's anger wil be kindled against you, he wil shut the heavens, there wil be no more rain, thesoil wil not yield its produce and, in the fine country given you by Yahweh, you wil quickly perish.	17 iratusque Dominus contra vos claudat caelum, et pluviae non descendant, nec terra det fructum suum, pereatisque velociter de terra optima, quam Dominus daturus est vobis.
18 'Let these words of mine remain in your heart and in your soul; fasten them on your hand as a signand on your forehead as a headband.	18 Ponite haec verba mea in cordibus et in animis vestris et ligate ea pro signo in manibus et inter oculos vestros collocate quasi appensum quid.
19 Teach them to your children, and keep on tel ing them, when you are sitting at home, when you areout and about, when you are lying down and when you are standing up.	19 Docete ea filios vestros, de illis loquendo, quando sederis in domo tua et ambulaveris in via et accubueris atque surrexeris.
20 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates,	20 Scribes ea super postes domus tuae et portas tuas,
21 so that you and your children may live long in the country which Yahweh swore to your ancestorsthat he would give them for as long as there is a sky above the earth.	21 ut multiplicentur dies tui et filiorum tuorum in terra, quam iuravit Dominus patribus tuis, ut daret eis, quamdiu caelum imminet terrae.
22 'For if you faithful y keep and observe al these commandments that I enjoin on you today, lovingYahweh your God, following all his ways and holding fast to him,	22 Si enim custodieritis omnia mandata haec, quae ego praecipio vobis, et feceritis ea, ut diligatis Dominum Deum vestrum et ambuletis in omnibus viis eius adhaerentes ei,
23 Yahweh wil dispossess al these nations before you, and you wil dispossess nations greater andmore powerful than yourselves.	23 disperdet Dominus omnes gentes istas ante faciem vestram, et possidebitis eas, quae maiores et fortiores vobis sunt;
24 Wherever the sole of your foot treads wil be yours; your territory will run from the desert al the wayto the Lebanon; and from the River, from the River Euphrates, as far as the Western Sea, wil be your territory.	24 omnis locus, quem calcaverit pes vester, vester erit. A deserto et a Libano, a flumine magno Euphrate usque ad mare occidentale erunt termini vestri.
25 No one wil be able to resist you; Yahweh your God will make you feared and dreaded throughout theterritory you tread, as he has promised you.	25 Nullus stabit contra vos; terrorem vestrum et formidinem dabit Dominus Deus vester super omnem terram, quam calcaturi estis, sicut locutus est vobis.
26 'Today, look, I am offering you a blessing and a curse:	26 En propono in conspectu vestro hodie benedictionem et maledictionem:
27 a blessing, if you obey the commandments of Yahweh your God which I enjoin on you today;	27 benedictionem, si oboedieritis mandatis Domini Dei vestri, quae ego hodie praecipio vobis;
28 a curse, if you disobey the commandments of Yahweh your God and leave the way which today Ihave marked out for you, by following other gods hitherto unknown to you.	28 maledictionem, si non oboedieritis mandatis Domini Dei vestri, sed recesseritis de via, quam ego nunc ostendo vobis, et ambulaveritis post deos alienos, quos ignoratis.
29 And when Yahweh your God has brought you into the country which you are about to enter andmake your own, you must set the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.	29 Cum introduxerit te Dominus Deus tuus in terram, ad quam pergis habitandam, pones benedictionem super montem Garizim, maledictionem super montem Hebal,
30 (These mountains, as everyone knows, are on the other side of the Jordan on the westward road, inthe territory of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, near the Oak of Moreh.)	30 qui sunt trans Iordanem, post viam quae vergit ad solis occubitum in terra Chananaei, qui habitat in Araba contra Galgalam, quae est iuxta Quercus Moreh.
31 For you are about to cross the Jordan, to enter and take possession of the country given you byYahweh your God. You wil possess it, you wil live in it,	31 Vos enim transibitis Iordanem, ut possideatis terram, quam Dominus Deus vester daturus est vobis, et habitetis in illa.
32 and you must keep and observe al the laws and customs promulgated by me to you today.'	32 Videte ergo ut impleatis omnia praecepta atque iudicia, quae ego hodie ponam in conspectu vestro.
