Luke 9

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 He cal ed the Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases,	1 Gesù chiamò a sé i Dodici e diede loro potere e autorità di scacciare tutti i demòni e di guarire le malattie;
2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.	2 poi li mandò a predicare il regno di Dio e a guarire i malati.
3 He said to them, 'Take nothing for the journey: neither staff, nor haversack, nor bread, nor money; anddo not have a spare tunic.	3 Disse loro: "Non prendete nulla per il viaggio, né bastone né borsa né pane né soldi né due tuniche per ciascuno.
4 Whatever house you enter, stay there; and when you leave let your departure be from there.	4 Quando entrate in una casa, restate là fino a che riprenderete il cammino.
5 As for those who do not welcome you, when you leave their town shake the dust from your feet asevidence against them.'	5 Se gli abitanti di una città non vi accolgono, nell'andarvene scuotete la polvere dai vostri piedi, in testimonianza contro di loro".
6 So they set out and went from village to vil age proclaiming the good news and healing everywhere.	6 Allora essi partirono e passavano di villaggio in villaggio, annunziando ovunque la buona novella e guarendo i malati.
7 Meanwhile Herod the tetrarch had heard about al that was going on; and he was puzzled, becausesome people were saying that John had risen from the dead,	7 Intanto il tetrarca Erode venne a sapere di tutti questi fatti e non sapeva che cosa pensare, perché alcuni dicevano: "Giovanni è risuscitato dai morti".
8 others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life.	8 Altri invece: "E' riapparso Elia". Altri ancora: "E' risorto uno degli antichi profeti".
9 But Herod said, 'John? I beheaded him. So who is this I hear such reports about?' And he was anxiousto see him.	9 Ma Erode disse: "Giovanni l'ho fatto decapitare io. Chi è dunque costui, del quale vengo a sapere tali cose?". E cercava di vederlo.
10 On their return the apostles gave him an account of al they had done. Then he took them with him andwithdrew towards a town called Bethsaida where they could be by themselves.	10 Al loro ritorno gli apostoli raccontarono a Gesù tutto quello che avevano fatto. Allora egli li prese con sé e si ritirò in una città chiamata Betsàida.
11 But the crowds got to know and they went after him. He made them welcome and talked to them aboutthe kingdom of God; and he cured those who were in need of healing.	11 Ma le folle lo seppero e lo seguirono. Egli le accolse e si mise a parlare loro del regno di Dio e a guarire quelli che avevano bisogno di cure.
12 It was late afternoon when the Twelve came up to him and said, 'Send the people away, and they cango to the vil ages and farms round about to find lodging and food; for we are in a lonely place here.'	12 Ora, il giorno cominciava a declinare e i Dodici gli si avvicinarono dicendo: "Lascia andare la folla, così che possa procurarsi cibo e alloggio nei villaggi e nelle campagne qui attorno, poiché qui siamo in un luogo deserto".
13 He replied, 'Give them something to eat yourselves.' But they said, 'We have no more than five loavesand two fish, unless we are to go ourselves and buy food for al these people.'	13 Gesù disse loro: "Date loro voi stessi da mangiare". Ma essi risposero: "Noi non abbiamo che cinque pani e due pesci. Vuoi che andiamo a far provviste per tutta questa gente?".
14 For there were about five thousand men. But he said to his disciples, 'Get them to sit down in parties ofabout fifty.'	14 Erano infatti circa cinquemila gli uomini presenti. Egli disse ai discepoli: "Fateli sdraiare a gruppi di cinquanta".
15 They did so and made them al sit down.	15 Così fecero e invitarono tutti a sdraiarsi.
16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven, and said the blessing overthem; then he broke them and handed them to his disciples to distribute among the crowd.	16 Allora Gesù, presi i cinque pani e i due pesci e levati gli occhi al cielo, li benedisse, li spezzò e li diede ai discepoli perché li distribuissero alla folla.
17 They al ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps left over were col ected they fil ed twelvebaskets.	17 Tutti mangiarono a sazietà, e dei pezzi avanzati ne portarono via dodici ceste.
18 Now it happened that he was praying alone, and his disciples came to him and he put this question tothem, 'Who do the crowds say I am?'	18 Un giorno Gesù si trovava in un luogo isolato a pregare. I discepoli erano con lui ed egli fece loro questa domanda: "Chi sono io secondo la gente?".
19 And they answered, 'Some say John the Baptist; others Elijah; others again one of the ancientprophets come back to life.'	19 Essi risposero: "Per alcuni Giovanni il Battista, per altri Elia, per altri uno degli antichi profeti che è risorto".
20 'But you,' he said to them, 'who do you say I am?' It was Peter who spoke up. 'The Christ of God,' hesaid.	20 Allora domandò: "Ma voi chi dite che io sia?". Pietro, prendendo la parola, rispose: "Il Cristo di Dio".
21 But he gave them strict orders and charged them not to say this to anyone.	21 Allora ordinò loro di non dire niente a nessuno,
22 He said, 'The Son of man is destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and chief priestsand scribes and to be put to death, and to be raised up on the third day.'	22 e aggiunse: "E' necessario che il Figlio dell'uomo soffra molto, sia condannato dagli anziani, dai sommi sacerdoti e dagli scribi, sia messo a morte e risorga il terzo giorno".
23 Then, speaking to al , he said, 'If anyone wants to be a fol ower of mine, let him renounce himself andtake up his cross every day and fol ow me.	23 Poi disse a tutti: "Se qualcuno vuol venire dietro a me, rinneghi se stesso, prenda la propria croce ogni giorno e mi segua.
24 Anyone who wants to save his life wil lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, wil save it.	24 Poiché chi vorrà salvare la propria vita la perderà, ma chi perderà la propria vita per causa mia la salverà.
25 What benefit is it to anyone to win the whole world and forfeit or lose his very self?	25 Che vantaggio può avere un uomo a guadagnare il mondo intero, se poi si perde o rovina se stesso?
26 For if anyone is ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of man wil be ashamed when hecomes in his own glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.	26 Se qualcuno si vergognerà di me e delle mie parole, il Figlio dell'uomo si vergognerà di lui quando ritornerà nella gloria sua e del Padre e degli angeli santi.
27 'I tel you truly, there are some standing here who wil not taste death before they see the kingdom ofGod.'	27 In verità vi dico: vi sono alcuni qui presenti che non moriranno prima di aver visto il regno di Dio".
28 Now about eight days after this had been said, he took with him Peter, John and James and went upthe mountain to pray.	28 Circa otto giorni dopo questi discorsi, prese con sé Pietro, Giovanni e Giacomo e salì sul monte per pregare.
29 And it happened that, as he was praying, the aspect of his face was changed and his clothing becamesparkling white.	29 Mentre pregava, il suo volto cambiò di aspetto e la sua veste divenne candida e sfolgorante.
30 And suddenly there were two men talking to him; they were Moses and Elijah	30 Ed ecco due uomini venire a parlare con lui: erano Mosè ed Elia,
31 appearing in glory, and they were speaking of his passing which he was to accomplish in Jerusalem.	31 apparsi nella loro gloria, e parlavano del suo esodo che stava per compiersi a Gerusalemme.
32 Peter and his companions were heavy with sleep, but they woke up and saw his glory and the two menstanding with him.	32 Pietro e i suoi compagni erano oppressi dal sonno, ma restarono svegli e videro la sua gloria e i due uomini che stavano con lui.
33 As these were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, 'Master, it is wonderful for us to be here; so let usmake three shelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.' He did not know what he was saying.	33 Mentre questi si separavano da lui, Pietro disse a Gesù: "Maestro, è bello per noi stare qui. Faremo tre tende, una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia". Ma non sapeva quello che diceva.
34 As he was saying this, a cloud came and covered them with shadow; and when they went into thecloud the disciples were afraid.	34 E mentre diceva queste cose, venne una nube e li coprì. Ebbero paura, quando entrarono nella nube.
35 And a voice came from the cloud saying, 'This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to him.'	35 Allora dalla nube uscì una voce che diceva: "Questi è il mio Figlio, l'eletto, ascoltatelo!".
36 And after the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. The disciples kept silence and, at that time,told no one what they had seen.	36 Appena la voce cessò, Gesù restò solo. Essi tacquero e in quei giorni non raccontarono niente a nessuno di quello che avevano visto.
37 Now it happened that on the fol owing day when they were coming down from the mountain a largecrowd came to meet him.	37 Il giorno seguente, quando furono discesi dal monte, una gran folla si fece incontro a Gesù.
38 And suddenly a man in the crowd cried out. 'Master,' he said, 'I implore you to look at my son: he is myonly child.	38 All'improvviso in mezzo alla folla un uomo si mise a gridare: "Maestro, ti prego di volgere lo sguardo all'unico figlio che ho.
39 A spirit wil suddenly take hold of him, and all at once it gives a sudden cry and throws the boy intoconvulsions with foaming at the mouth; it is slow to leave him, but when it does, it leaves the boy worn out.	39 Ecco, uno spirito lo prende e subito egli si mette a gridare; lo scuote ed egli emette schiuma; solo a stento lo lascia, dopo averlo straziato.
40 I begged your disciples to drive it out, and they could not.'	40 Ho pregato i tuoi discepoli di scacciarlo, ma non ci sono riusciti".
41 In reply Jesus said, 'Faithless and perverse generation! How much longer must I be among you andput up with you? Bring your son here.'	41 Gesù rispose: "O generazione incredula e perversa, fino a quando dovrò stare con voi e vi sopporterò? Portami qui tuo figlio!".
42 Even while the boy was coming, the devil threw him to the ground in convulsions. But Jesus rebukedthe unclean spirit and cured the boy and gave him back to his father,	42 Mentre questi si avvicinava, lo spirito cattivo lo sbatté per terra, contorcendolo con convulsioni. Gesù minacciò lo spirito immondo, guarì il ragazzo e lo consegnò a suo padre.
43 and everyone was awestruck by the greatness of God. But while everyone was ful of admiration for alhe did, he said to his disciples,	43 Tutti furono stupiti nel vedere la grandezza di Dio. Mentre tutti erano sbalorditi per tutte le cose che aveva fatto, egli disse ai suoi discepoli:
44 'For your part, you must have these words constantly in mind: The Son of man is going to be deliveredinto the power of men.'	44 "Fate molta attenzione a queste parole: il Figlio dell'uomo sta per essere consegnato in mano degli uomini".
45 But they did not understand what he said; it was hidden from them so that they should not see themeaning of it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.	45 Ma essi non compresero il senso di queste parole; erano per loro così misteriose che non le comprendevano affatto e avevano paura di interrogarlo su questo argomento.
46 An argument started between them about which of them was the greatest.	46 Intanto sorse tra loro una disputa: chi di loro fosse il più importante.
47 Jesus knew what thoughts were going through their minds, and he took a little child whom he set byhis side	47 Allora Gesù, conoscendo il pensiero del loro cuore, prese un fanciullo, se lo pose accanto e disse:
48 and then he said to them, 'Anyone who welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; andanyone who welcomes me, welcomes the one who sent me. The least among you all is the one who is thegreatest.'	48 "Chi accoglie questo fanciullo nel mio nome, accoglie me; e chi accoglie me, accoglie colui che mi ha mandato. Poiché colui che è il più piccolo tra voi, questi è il più grande".
49 John spoke up. 'Master,' he said, 'we saw someone driving out devils in your name, and because he isnot with us we tried to stop him.'	49 Giovanni allora disse: "Maestro, abbiamo visto uno che scacciava i demòni in nome tuo e noi glielo abbiamo impedito, perché non è con noi che ti abbiamo seguito".
50 But Jesus said to him, 'You must not stop him: anyone who is not against you is for you.'	50 Ma Gesù gli disse: "Non glielo proibite, perché chi non è contro di voi, è per voi".
51 Now it happened that as the time drew near for him to be taken up, he resolutely turned his facetowards Jerusalem	51 Mentre stava per compiersi il tempo della sua assunzione dal mondo, Gesù decise fermamente di andare verso Gerusalemme
52 and sent messengers ahead of him. These set out, and they went into a Samaritan vil age to makepreparations for him,	52 e mandò messaggeri innanzi a sé. Questi partirono ed entrarono in un villaggio di Samaritani per preparare quello che era necessario per lui.
53 but the people would not receive him because he was making for Jerusalem.	53 Ma essi non lo ricevettero perché stava andando verso Gerusalemme.
54 Seeing this, the disciples James and John said, 'Lord, do you want us to cal down fire from heaven toburn them up?'	54 Accortisi di ciò, i discepoli Giacomo e Giovanni dissero a Gesù: "Signore, vuoi che diciamo che scenda il fuoco dal cielo e li distrugga?".
55 But he turned and rebuked them,	55 Ma Gesù si voltò verso di loro e li rimproverò.
56 and they went on to another village.	56 Poi si avviarono verso un altro villaggio.
57 As they travel ed along they met a man on the road who said to him, 'I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'	57 Mentre camminavano, un tale disse a Gesù: "Ti seguirò dovunque tu andrai".
58 Jesus answered, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man hasnowhere to lay his head.'	58 Ma Gesù gli rispose: "Le volpi hanno una tana e gli uccelli hanno un nido, ma il Figlio dell'uomo non ha dove posare il capo".
59 Another to whom he said, 'Fol ow me,' replied, 'Let me go and bury my father first.'	59 Poi disse ad un altro: "Séguimi!". Ma costui rispose: "Signore, prima permettimi di andare a seppellire mio padre".
60 But he answered, 'Leave the dead to bury their dead; your duty is to go and spread the news of thekingdom of God.'	60 Gesù rispose: "Lascia che i morti seppelliscano i loro morti; tu va' a predicare il regno di Dio".
61 Another said, 'I wil fol ow you, sir, but first let me go and say good -- bye to my people at home.'	61 Un altro disse: "Signore, io ti seguirò; prima però lasciami andare a salutare i miei parenti".
62 Jesus said to him, 'Once the hand is laid on the plough, no one who looks back is fit for the kingdom ofGod.'	62 Gli rispose Gesù: "Chiunque mette mano all'aratro e poi si volta indietro, non è adatto per il regno di Dio".
