Luke 9

1 He cal ed the Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases,	1 - Chiamati a sè i Dodici, diede loro potere ed autorità sopra tutti i demoni e il potere di guarir le malattie.
2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.	2 Li mandò poi a predicare il regno di Dio e a risanare gl'infermi,
3 He said to them, 'Take nothing for the journey: neither staff, nor haversack, nor bread, nor money; anddo not have a spare tunic.	3 dicendo loro: «Non prendete nulla per il viaggio, nè bastone, nè bisaccia, nè pane, nè denaro e non abbiate due tuniche.
4 Whatever house you enter, stay there; and when you leave let your departure be from there.	4 In qualunque casa entrerete rimanetevi e non ne partite.
5 As for those who do not welcome you, when you leave their town shake the dust from your feet asevidence against them.'	5 E se rifiutano di ricevervi, uscite da quella città, scotendovi la polvere dai vostri piedi in segno di protesta contro di loro».
6 So they set out and went from village to vil age proclaiming the good news and healing everywhere.	6 Ed essi partitisi, andavano attorno di paese in paese, annunziando la buona novella e facendo dovunque guarigioni.
7 Meanwhile Herod the tetrarch had heard about al that was going on; and he was puzzled, becausesome people were saying that John had risen from the dead,	7 Erode il tetrarca, udito parlare di quanto faceva Gesù, era perplesso, perchè taluni dicevano:
8 others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life.	8 «Giovanni è risorto dai morti»; altri: «È apparso Elia»; altri ancora: «È risorto uno degli antichi profeti».
9 But Herod said, 'John? I beheaded him. So who is this I hear such reports about?' And he was anxiousto see him.	9 Erode però diceva: «Giovanni l'ho fatto decapitare io. Chi è dunque quest'uomo del quale sento dire tali cose?». E cercava di vederlo.
10 On their return the apostles gave him an account of al they had done. Then he took them with him andwithdrew towards a town called Bethsaida where they could be by themselves.	10 Frattanto gli Apostoli, essendo di ritorno, raccontarono a Gesù tutto quello che avevan fatto, ed egli, presili con sè, si ritirò in disparte in un luogo deserto, vicino a una città, detta Betsaida.
11 But the crowds got to know and they went after him. He made them welcome and talked to them aboutthe kingdom of God; and he cured those who were in need of healing.	11 Risaputa la cosa, la gente gli tenne dietro; ed egli, accoltala, parlava loro del regno di Dio, risanando quanti avevan bisogno di guarigione.
12 It was late afternoon when the Twelve came up to him and said, 'Send the people away, and they cango to the vil ages and farms round about to find lodging and food; for we are in a lonely place here.'	12 Ma avvicinandosi la sera, i Dodici si accostarono a lui per dirgli: «Congeda la moltitudine, affinchè spargendosi per i villaggi e le campagne d'intorno si trovino un alloggio e un nutrimento; perchè qui siamo in un luogo deserto».
13 He replied, 'Give them something to eat yourselves.' But they said, 'We have no more than five loavesand two fish, unless we are to go ourselves and buy food for al these people.'	13 Egli rispose: «Date voi loro da mangiare». Ed essi gli osservarono: «Noi non abbiamo altro che cinque pani e due pesci; a meno che non si vada noi a comprare cibi per tutta questa folla!».
14 For there were about five thousand men. But he said to his disciples, 'Get them to sit down in parties ofabout fifty.'	14 Perchè v'eran press'a poco cinquemila uomini. Gesù disse a' suoi discepoli: «Fateli sedere in gruppi di cinquanta».
15 They did so and made them al sit down.	15 Ubbidirono e li fecero seder tutti.
16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven, and said the blessing overthem; then he broke them and handed them to his disciples to distribute among the crowd.	16 Allora presi i cinque pani e i due pesci, alzò gli occhi al cielo, li benedisse, li spezzò e li diede ai discepoli, perchè li mettessero davanti alla gente.
17 They al ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps left over were col ected they fil ed twelvebaskets.	17 Tutti mangiarono e si servirono; e degli avanzi si raccolsero dodici panieri.
18 Now it happened that he was praying alone, and his disciples came to him and he put this question tothem, 'Who do the crowds say I am?'	18 Un giorno, mentre pregava in un luogo solitario, i discepoli erano con lui; allora egli fece ad essi questa questione: «Chi dice la gente ch'io sia?».
19 And they answered, 'Some say John the Baptist; others Elijah; others again one of the ancientprophets come back to life.'	19 Quelli risposero: «Gli uni dicono che sei Giovanni Battista; altri Elia e altri uno degli antichi profeti risorto».
20 'But you,' he said to them, 'who do you say I am?' It was Peter who spoke up. 'The Christ of God,' hesaid.	20 Ed egli domandò loro: «E voi chi dite ch'io sia?». Simon Pietro rispose: «Il Cristo di Dio».
21 But he gave them strict orders and charged them not to say this to anyone.	21 Gesù intimò loro severamente di non dirlo ad alcuno
22 He said, 'The Son of man is destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and chief priestsand scribes and to be put to death, and to be raised up on the third day.'	22 ed aggiunse: «È necessario che il Figlio dell'uomo abbia a patire molte cose e sia riprovato dagli anziani, dai principi dei Sacerdoti e dagli Scribi e sia ucciso e risusciti il terzo giorno».
23 Then, speaking to al , he said, 'If anyone wants to be a fol ower of mine, let him renounce himself andtake up his cross every day and fol ow me.	23 Diceva poi a tutti: «Se uno vuol venire dietro a me, rinneghi se stesso, prenda ogni giorno la sua croce e mi segua.
24 Anyone who wants to save his life wil lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, wil save it.	24 Perchè chi vorrà salvare la sua vita, la perderà, e chi avrà perduta la sua vita per amor mio, la salverà.
25 What benefit is it to anyone to win the whole world and forfeit or lose his very self?	25 Che giova mai all'uomo guadagnare tutto il mondo, se poi perde e danneggia se stesso?
26 For if anyone is ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of man wil be ashamed when hecomes in his own glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.	26 Invero se uno avrà vergogna di me e delle mie parole, il Figliuol dell'uomo avrà vergogna di lui quando verrà nella sua gloria e in quella del Padre e dei santi angeli.
27 'I tel you truly, there are some standing here who wil not taste death before they see the kingdom ofGod.'	27 Vi dico poi in verità, che alcuni di coloro che sono qui presenti non gusteranno la morte prima d'aver veduto il regno di Dio».
28 Now about eight days after this had been said, he took with him Peter, John and James and went upthe mountain to pray.	28 Circa otto giorni dopo questi discorsi, Gesù prese con sè Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni e salì sul monte a pregare.
29 And it happened that, as he was praying, the aspect of his face was changed and his clothing becamesparkling white.	29 Mentre pregava, l'aspetto del suo volto fu mutato e la sua veste divenne candida e risplendente.
30 And suddenly there were two men talking to him; they were Moses and Elijah	30 Ed ecco due uomini parlar con lui; erano Mosè ed Elia
31 appearing in glory, and they were speaking of his passing which he was to accomplish in Jerusalem.	31 i quali apparsi con gloria, parlavano della dipartita che egli stava per compiere in Gerusalemme.
32 Peter and his companions were heavy with sleep, but they woke up and saw his glory and the two menstanding with him.	32 Intanto Pietro e i suoi compagni erano aggravati dal sonno e quando si furono svegliati videro la sua gloria e i due uomini che erano con Gesù.
33 As these were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, 'Master, it is wonderful for us to be here; so let usmake three shelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.' He did not know what he was saying.	33 E mentre questi si separavano da lui, Pietro disse a Gesù: «Maestro, è buona cosa per noi lo star qui; piantiamo tre tende, una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia»; e non sapeva quel che si dicesse.
34 As he was saying this, a cloud came and covered them with shadow; and when they went into thecloud the disciples were afraid.	34 Mentre parlava così venne una nuvola, che li avvolse e mentre venivano avvolti dalla nube, i discepoli furon presi da spavento.
35 And a voice came from the cloud saying, 'This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to him.'	35 Dalla nube poi uscì una voce, che diceva: «Questo è il mio Figlio diletto, ascoltatelo».
36 And after the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. The disciples kept silence and, at that time,told no one what they had seen.	36 Mentre la voce risonava, Gesù restò solo; essi tacquero e in quei giorni non dissero a nessuno quanto avevano visto.
37 Now it happened that on the fol owing day when they were coming down from the mountain a largecrowd came to meet him.	37 Il giorno seguente scesi dal monte, si fece loro incontro molta gente.
38 And suddenly a man in the crowd cried out. 'Master,' he said, 'I implore you to look at my son: he is myonly child.	38 A un tratto un uomo dalla folla gridò: «Maestro, ti supplico, volgi lo sguardo a mio figlio; l'unico ch'io abbia.
39 A spirit wil suddenly take hold of him, and all at once it gives a sudden cry and throws the boy intoconvulsions with foaming at the mouth; it is slow to leave him, but when it does, it leaves the boy worn out.	39 Uno spirito s'impadronisce di lui ed egli subito urla, lo spirito lo strapazza con violenza facendolo schiumare e a stento se ne va via da lui, dopo averne fatto strazio.
40 I begged your disciples to drive it out, and they could not.'	40 Ho pregato ai tuoi discepoli di scacciarlo, ma non ci sono riusciti».
41 In reply Jesus said, 'Faithless and perverse generation! How much longer must I be among you andput up with you? Bring your son here.'	41 Gesù rispose: «O generazione incredula e perversa fino a quando dovrò restare con voi e vi dovrò sopportare? Conduci qua il tuo figliuolo».
42 Even while the boy was coming, the devil threw him to the ground in convulsions. But Jesus rebukedthe unclean spirit and cured the boy and gave him back to his father,	42 E mentre s'avvicinava, il demonio lo gettò per terra e lo agitò con violenza.
43 and everyone was awestruck by the greatness of God. But while everyone was ful of admiration for alhe did, he said to his disciples,	43 Ma Gesù sgridò lo spirito immondo, risanò il fanciullo e lo rese a suo padre. E tutti stupirono della grandezza di Dio.
44 'For your part, you must have these words constantly in mind: The Son of man is going to be deliveredinto the power of men.'	44 Mentre ognuno si meravigliava di tutto ciò che faceva Gesù, egli disse ai suoi discepoli: «Ascoltate attentamente ciò che vi dico: - Il Figliuol dell'uomo sta per essere dato nelle mani degli uomini -».
45 But they did not understand what he said; it was hidden from them so that they should not see themeaning of it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.	45 Ma essi non compresero queste parole; eran talmente oscure per loro che non ne afferravano il senso, e non osavano interrogarlo intorno a ciò.
46 An argument started between them about which of them was the greatest.	46 Poi sorse tra loro una disputa, chi di essi fosse il più grande.
47 Jesus knew what thoughts were going through their minds, and he took a little child whom he set byhis side	47 Gesù, vedendo i pensieri del loro cuore, preso un fanciullo, se lo pose accanto
48 and then he said to them, 'Anyone who welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; andanyone who welcomes me, welcomes the one who sent me. The least among you all is the one who is thegreatest.'	48 e disse loro: «Chi accoglie questo fanciullo in nome mio, accoglie me; e chi accoglie me accoglie colui che mi ha mandato. Perchè chi è il più piccolo fra tutti voi, questi è il grande».
49 John spoke up. 'Master,' he said, 'we saw someone driving out devils in your name, and because he isnot with us we tried to stop him.'	49 Giovanni prese a dirgli: «Maestro, abbiamo visto un tale che scacciava i demoni in nome tuo e noi glielo abbiamo proibito, perchè non è dei nostri».
50 But Jesus said to him, 'You must not stop him: anyone who is not against you is for you.'	50 E Gesù gli rispose: «Non glielo proibite; perchè chi non è contro di voi è per voi».
51 Now it happened that as the time drew near for him to be taken up, he resolutely turned his facetowards Jerusalem	51 Siccome si avvicinava il tempo della sua assunzione, Gesù si mise risolutamente in viaggio per andare a Gerusalemme.
52 and sent messengers ahead of him. These set out, and they went into a Samaritan vil age to makepreparations for him,	52 Mandò innanzi a sè alcuni messi i quali, postisi in cammino entrarono in un villaggio dei Samaritani per preparargli l'alloggio.
53 but the people would not receive him because he was making for Jerusalem.	53 Ma quelli non lo vollero ricevere, perchè era diretto a Gerusalemme.
54 Seeing this, the disciples James and John said, 'Lord, do you want us to cal down fire from heaven toburn them up?'	54 Vedendo ciò Giacomo e Giovanni, suoi discepoli, dissero: «Signore, vuoi che invochiamo che scenda fuoco dal cielo e li consumi?».
55 But he turned and rebuked them,	55 Ma egli voltatosi, li sgridò e disse: «Non sapete di quale spirito siete.
56 and they went on to another village.	56 Il Figliuol dell'uomo non è venuto a perdere le anime ma a salvarle». E andarono in un altro villaggio.
57 As they travel ed along they met a man on the road who said to him, 'I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'	57 Cammin facendo, uno gli disse: «Io ti seguirò dovunque tu vada».
58 Jesus answered, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man hasnowhere to lay his head.'	58 Gesù gli rispose: «Le volpi hanno tane, e gli uccelli dell'aria nidi, ma il Figliuol dell'uomo non ha dove posare il capo».
59 Another to whom he said, 'Fol ow me,' replied, 'Let me go and bury my father first.'	59 Disse poi a un altro: «Seguimi». Quello rispose: «Signore, permettimi ch'io vada prima a seppellire mio padre».
60 But he answered, 'Leave the dead to bury their dead; your duty is to go and spread the news of thekingdom of God.'	60 Ma Gesù gli replicò: «Lascia che i morti seppelliscano i morti, e tu vai ad annunziare il regno di Dio».
61 Another said, 'I wil fol ow you, sir, but first let me go and say good -- bye to my people at home.'	61 Un altro disse: «Signore, ti seguirò, ma permettimi prima di salutare quei di casa».
62 Jesus said to him, 'Once the hand is laid on the plough, no one who looks back is fit for the kingdom ofGod.'	62 Gesù gli rispose: «Chiunque, dopo aver messo la mano all'aratro volge indietro lo sguardo, non è adatto al regno di Dio».
