Luke 9

1 He cal ed the Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases,	1 Convocò i Dodici e diede loro forza e potere su tutti i demòni e di guarire le malattie.
2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.	2 E li mandò ad annunciare il regno di Dio e a guarire gli infermi.
3 He said to them, 'Take nothing for the journey: neither staff, nor haversack, nor bread, nor money; anddo not have a spare tunic.	3 Disse loro: «Non prendete nulla per il viaggio, né bastone, né sacca, né pane, né denaro, e non portatevi due tuniche.
4 Whatever house you enter, stay there; and when you leave let your departure be from there.	4 In qualunque casa entriate, rimanete là, e di là poi ripartite.
5 As for those who do not welcome you, when you leave their town shake the dust from your feet asevidence against them.'	5 Quanto a coloro che non vi accolgono, uscite dalla loro città e scuotete la polvere dai vostri piedi come testimonianza contro di loro».
6 So they set out and went from village to vil age proclaiming the good news and healing everywhere.	6 Allora essi uscirono e giravano di villaggio in villaggio, ovunque annunciando la buona notizia e operando guarigioni.
7 Meanwhile Herod the tetrarch had heard about al that was going on; and he was puzzled, becausesome people were saying that John had risen from the dead,	7 Il tetrarca Erode sentì parlare di tutti questi avvenimenti e non sapeva che cosa pensare, perché alcuni dicevano: «Giovanni è risorto dai morti»,
8 others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life.	8 altri: «È apparso Elia», e altri ancora: «È risorto uno degli antichi profeti».
9 But Herod said, 'John? I beheaded him. So who is this I hear such reports about?' And he was anxiousto see him.	9 Ma Erode diceva: «Giovanni, l’ho fatto decapitare io; chi è dunque costui, del quale sento dire queste cose?». E cercava di vederlo.
10 On their return the apostles gave him an account of al they had done. Then he took them with him andwithdrew towards a town called Bethsaida where they could be by themselves.	10 Al loro ritorno, gli apostoli raccontarono a Gesù tutto quello che avevano fatto. Allora li prese con sé e si ritirò in disparte, verso una città chiamata Betsàida.
11 But the crowds got to know and they went after him. He made them welcome and talked to them aboutthe kingdom of God; and he cured those who were in need of healing.	11 Ma le folle vennero a saperlo e lo seguirono. Egli le accolse e prese a parlare loro del regno di Dio e a guarire quanti avevano bisogno di cure.
12 It was late afternoon when the Twelve came up to him and said, 'Send the people away, and they cango to the vil ages and farms round about to find lodging and food; for we are in a lonely place here.'	12 Il giorno cominciava a declinare e i Dodici gli si avvicinarono dicendo: «Congeda la folla perché vada nei villaggi e nelle campagne dei dintorni, per alloggiare e trovare cibo: qui siamo in una zona deserta».
13 He replied, 'Give them something to eat yourselves.' But they said, 'We have no more than five loavesand two fish, unless we are to go ourselves and buy food for al these people.'	13 Gesù disse loro: «Voi stessi date loro da mangiare». Ma essi risposero: «Non abbiamo che cinque pani e due pesci, a meno che non andiamo noi a comprare viveri per tutta questa gente».
14 For there were about five thousand men. But he said to his disciples, 'Get them to sit down in parties ofabout fifty.'	14 C’erano infatti circa cinquemila uomini. Egli disse ai suoi discepoli: «Fateli sedere a gruppi di cinquanta circa».
15 They did so and made them al sit down.	15 Fecero così e li fecero sedere tutti quanti.
16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven, and said the blessing overthem; then he broke them and handed them to his disciples to distribute among the crowd.	16 Egli prese i cinque pani e i due pesci, alzò gli occhi al cielo, recitò su di essi la benedizione, li spezzò e li dava ai discepoli perché li distribuissero alla folla.
17 They al ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps left over were col ected they fil ed twelvebaskets.	17 Tutti mangiarono a sazietà e furono portati via i pezzi loro avanzati: dodici ceste.
18 Now it happened that he was praying alone, and his disciples came to him and he put this question tothem, 'Who do the crowds say I am?'	18 Un giorno Gesù si trovava in un luogo solitario a pregare. I discepoli erano con lui ed egli pose loro questa domanda: «Le folle, chi dicono che io sia?».
19 And they answered, 'Some say John the Baptist; others Elijah; others again one of the ancientprophets come back to life.'	19 Essi risposero: «Giovanni il Battista; altri dicono Elia; altri uno degli antichi profeti che è risorto».
20 'But you,' he said to them, 'who do you say I am?' It was Peter who spoke up. 'The Christ of God,' hesaid.	20 Allora domandò loro: «Ma voi, chi dite che io sia?». Pietro rispose: «Il Cristo di Dio».
21 But he gave them strict orders and charged them not to say this to anyone.	21 Egli ordinò loro severamente di non riferirlo ad alcuno.
22 He said, 'The Son of man is destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and chief priestsand scribes and to be put to death, and to be raised up on the third day.'	22 «Il Figlio dell’uomo – disse – deve soffrire molto, essere rifiutato dagli anziani, dai capi dei sacerdoti e dagli scribi, venire ucciso e risorgere il terzo giorno».
23 Then, speaking to al , he said, 'If anyone wants to be a fol ower of mine, let him renounce himself andtake up his cross every day and fol ow me.	23 Poi, a tutti, diceva: «Se qualcuno vuole venire dietro a me, rinneghi se stesso, prenda la sua croce ogni giorno e mi segua.
24 Anyone who wants to save his life wil lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, wil save it.	24 Chi vuole salvare la propria vita, la perderà, ma chi perderà la propria vita per causa mia, la salverà.
25 What benefit is it to anyone to win the whole world and forfeit or lose his very self?	25 Infatti, quale vantaggio ha un uomo che guadagna il mondo intero, ma perde o rovina se stesso?
26 For if anyone is ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of man wil be ashamed when hecomes in his own glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.	26 Chi si vergognerà di me e delle mie parole, di lui si vergognerà il Figlio dell’uomo quando verrà nella gloria sua e del Padre e degli angeli santi.
27 'I tel you truly, there are some standing here who wil not taste death before they see the kingdom ofGod.'	27 In verità io vi dico: vi sono alcuni, qui presenti, che non morranno prima di aver visto il regno di Dio».
28 Now about eight days after this had been said, he took with him Peter, John and James and went upthe mountain to pray.	28 Circa otto giorni dopo questi discorsi, Gesù prese con sé Pietro, Giovanni e Giacomo e salì sul monte a pregare.
29 And it happened that, as he was praying, the aspect of his face was changed and his clothing becamesparkling white.	29 Mentre pregava, il suo volto cambiò d’aspetto e la sua veste divenne candida e sfolgorante.
30 And suddenly there were two men talking to him; they were Moses and Elijah	30 Ed ecco, due uomini conversavano con lui: erano Mosè ed Elia,
31 appearing in glory, and they were speaking of his passing which he was to accomplish in Jerusalem.	31 apparsi nella gloria, e parlavano del suo esodo, che stava per compiersi a Gerusalemme.
32 Peter and his companions were heavy with sleep, but they woke up and saw his glory and the two menstanding with him.	32 Pietro e i suoi compagni erano oppressi dal sonno; ma, quando si svegliarono, videro la sua gloria e i due uomini che stavano con lui.
33 As these were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, 'Master, it is wonderful for us to be here; so let usmake three shelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.' He did not know what he was saying.	33 Mentre questi si separavano da lui, Pietro disse a Gesù: «Maestro, è bello per noi essere qui. Facciamo tre capanne, una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia». Egli non sapeva quello che diceva.
34 As he was saying this, a cloud came and covered them with shadow; and when they went into thecloud the disciples were afraid.	34 Mentre parlava così, venne una nube e li coprì con la sua ombra. All’entrare nella nube, ebbero paura.
35 And a voice came from the cloud saying, 'This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to him.'	35 E dalla nube uscì una voce, che diceva: «Questi è il Figlio mio, l’eletto; ascoltatelo!».
36 And after the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. The disciples kept silence and, at that time,told no one what they had seen.	36 Appena la voce cessò, restò Gesù solo. Essi tacquero e in quei giorni non riferirono a nessuno ciò che avevano visto.
37 Now it happened that on the fol owing day when they were coming down from the mountain a largecrowd came to meet him.	37 Il giorno seguente, quando furono discesi dal monte, una grande folla gli venne incontro.
38 And suddenly a man in the crowd cried out. 'Master,' he said, 'I implore you to look at my son: he is myonly child.	38 A un tratto, dalla folla un uomo si mise a gridare: «Maestro, ti prego, volgi lo sguardo a mio figlio, perché è l’unico che ho!
39 A spirit wil suddenly take hold of him, and all at once it gives a sudden cry and throws the boy intoconvulsions with foaming at the mouth; it is slow to leave him, but when it does, it leaves the boy worn out.	39 Ecco, uno spirito lo afferra e improvvisamente si mette a gridare, lo scuote, provocandogli bava alla bocca, se ne allontana a stento e lo lascia sfinito.
40 I begged your disciples to drive it out, and they could not.'	40 Ho pregato i tuoi discepoli di scacciarlo, ma non ci sono riusciti».
41 In reply Jesus said, 'Faithless and perverse generation! How much longer must I be among you andput up with you? Bring your son here.'	41 Gesù rispose: «O generazione incredula e perversa, fino a quando sarò con voi e vi sopporterò? Conduci qui tuo figlio».
42 Even while the boy was coming, the devil threw him to the ground in convulsions. But Jesus rebukedthe unclean spirit and cured the boy and gave him back to his father,	42 Mentre questi si avvicinava, il demonio lo gettò a terra scuotendolo con convulsioni. Gesù minacciò lo spirito impuro, guarì il fanciullo e lo consegnò a suo padre.
43 and everyone was awestruck by the greatness of God. But while everyone was ful of admiration for alhe did, he said to his disciples,	43 E tutti restavano stupiti di fronte alla grandezza di Dio. Mentre tutti erano ammirati di tutte le cose che faceva, disse ai suoi discepoli:
44 'For your part, you must have these words constantly in mind: The Son of man is going to be deliveredinto the power of men.'	44 «Mettetevi bene in mente queste parole: il Figlio dell’uomo sta per essere consegnato nelle mani degli uomini».
45 But they did not understand what he said; it was hidden from them so that they should not see themeaning of it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.	45 Essi però non capivano queste parole: restavano per loro così misteriose che non ne coglievano il senso, e avevano timore di interrogarlo su questo argomento.
46 An argument started between them about which of them was the greatest.	46 Nacque poi una discussione tra loro, chi di loro fosse più grande.
47 Jesus knew what thoughts were going through their minds, and he took a little child whom he set byhis side	47 Allora Gesù, conoscendo il pensiero del loro cuore, prese un bambino, se lo mise vicino
48 and then he said to them, 'Anyone who welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; andanyone who welcomes me, welcomes the one who sent me. The least among you all is the one who is thegreatest.'	48 e disse loro: «Chi accoglierà questo bambino nel mio nome, accoglie me; e chi accoglie me, accoglie colui che mi ha mandato. Chi infatti è il più piccolo fra tutti voi, questi è grande».
49 John spoke up. 'Master,' he said, 'we saw someone driving out devils in your name, and because he isnot with us we tried to stop him.'	49 Giovanni prese la parola dicendo: «Maestro, abbiamo visto uno che scacciava demòni nel tuo nome e glielo abbiamo impedito, perché non ti segue insieme con noi».
50 But Jesus said to him, 'You must not stop him: anyone who is not against you is for you.'	50 Ma Gesù gli rispose: «Non lo impedite, perché chi non è contro di voi, è per voi».
51 Now it happened that as the time drew near for him to be taken up, he resolutely turned his facetowards Jerusalem	51 Mentre stavano compiendosi i giorni in cui sarebbe stato elevato in alto, egli prese la ferma decisione di mettersi in cammino verso Gerusalemme
52 and sent messengers ahead of him. These set out, and they went into a Samaritan vil age to makepreparations for him,	52 e mandò messaggeri davanti a sé. Questi si incamminarono ed entrarono in un villaggio di Samaritani per preparargli l’ingresso.
53 but the people would not receive him because he was making for Jerusalem.	53 Ma essi non vollero riceverlo, perché era chiaramente in cammino verso Gerusalemme.
54 Seeing this, the disciples James and John said, 'Lord, do you want us to cal down fire from heaven toburn them up?'	54 Quando videro ciò, i discepoli Giacomo e Giovanni dissero: «Signore, vuoi che diciamo che scenda un fuoco dal cielo e li consumi?».
55 But he turned and rebuked them,	55 Si voltò e li rimproverò.
56 and they went on to another village.	56 E si misero in cammino verso un altro villaggio.
57 As they travel ed along they met a man on the road who said to him, 'I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'	57 Mentre camminavano per la strada, un tale gli disse: «Ti seguirò dovunque tu vada».
58 Jesus answered, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man hasnowhere to lay his head.'	58 E Gesù gli rispose: «Le volpi hanno le loro tane e gli uccelli del cielo i loro nidi, ma il Figlio dell’uomo non ha dove posare il capo».
59 Another to whom he said, 'Fol ow me,' replied, 'Let me go and bury my father first.'	59 A un altro disse: «Seguimi». E costui rispose: «Signore, permettimi di andare prima a seppellire mio padre».
60 But he answered, 'Leave the dead to bury their dead; your duty is to go and spread the news of thekingdom of God.'	60 Gli replicò: «Lascia che i morti seppelliscano i loro morti; tu invece va’ e annuncia il regno di Dio».
61 Another said, 'I wil fol ow you, sir, but first let me go and say good -- bye to my people at home.'	61 Un altro disse: «Ti seguirò, Signore; prima però lascia che io mi congedi da quelli di casa mia».
62 Jesus said to him, 'Once the hand is laid on the plough, no one who looks back is fit for the kingdom ofGod.'	62 Ma Gesù gli rispose: «Nessuno che mette mano all’aratro e poi si volge indietro è adatto per il regno di Dio».
