1 He cal ed the Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases,	1 Jésus réunit les Douze; il leur donna autorité sur tous les démons, et puissance pour guérir les malades.
2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.	2 Puis il les envoya proclamer le Royaume de Dieu et rendre la santé aux infirmes.
3 He said to them, 'Take nothing for the journey: neither staff, nor haversack, nor bread, nor money; anddo not have a spare tunic.	3 Il leur dit: "Ne prenez rien pour la route: ni sac qu’on accroche à son bâton, ni pain, ni argent; n’ayez pas une seconde tunique.
4 Whatever house you enter, stay there; and when you leave let your departure be from there.	4 Quand une maison vous sera ouverte, restez-y jusqu’au moment de votre départ.
5 As for those who do not welcome you, when you leave their town shake the dust from your feet asevidence against them.'	5 Mais là où on ne vous recevra pas, ne sortez pas de la ville sans avoir secoué la poussière de vos pieds: ce sera un témoignage contre eux!”
6 So they set out and went from village to vil age proclaiming the good news and healing everywhere.	6 C’est ainsi qu’ils allèrent parcourant les villages: ils proclamaient partout la Bonne Nouvelle et multipliaient les guérisons.
7 Meanwhile Herod the tetrarch had heard about al that was going on; and he was puzzled, becausesome people were saying that John had risen from the dead,	7 Hérode, le tétrarque, apprit tout ce qui se faisait. Il ne savait que penser car les uns disaient: "Jean a été ressuscité d’entre les morts”,
8 others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life.	8 d’autres disaient: "Élie a réapparu”, et d’autres encore pensaient: "C’est l’un des anciens prophètes qui est ressuscité.”
9 But Herod said, 'John? I beheaded him. So who is this I hear such reports about?' And he was anxiousto see him.	9 Hérode se disait: "Je suis bien sûr d’avoir décapité Jean! Qui est maintenant celui-ci dont on raconte tant de merveilles?” Et il aurait aimé voir Jésus.
10 On their return the apostles gave him an account of al they had done. Then he took them with him andwithdrew towards a town called Bethsaida where they could be by themselves.	10 À leur retour, les apôtres racontèrent à Jésus tout ce qu’ils avaient fait. Il les prit avec lui et se retira dans les environs d’une ville appelée Bethsaïde, de façon à être tranquille.
11 But the crowds got to know and they went after him. He made them welcome and talked to them aboutthe kingdom of God; and he cured those who were in need of healing.	11 Mais les foules le surent et y arrivèrent derrière lui. Il les reçut et continua de leur parler du Royaume de Dieu, tout en rendant la santé à ceux qui étaient malades.
12 It was late afternoon when the Twelve came up to him and said, 'Send the people away, and they cango to the vil ages and farms round about to find lodging and food; for we are in a lonely place here.'	12 Le jour commençait à baisser. Les Douze s’approchèrent et lui dirent: "Renvoie la foule pour qu’ils aillent se chercher un toit et de la nourriture dans les villages et les campagnes des environs, car ici nous sommes loin de tout.”
13 He replied, 'Give them something to eat yourselves.' But they said, 'We have no more than five loavesand two fish, unless we are to go ourselves and buy food for al these people.'	13 Il leur dit: "Donnez-leur vous-mêmes à manger!” Ils répondirent: "Nous n’avons que cinq pains et deux poissons. Tu nous vois sans doute y aller nous-mêmes et acheter de quoi manger pour tout ce monde?”
14 For there were about five thousand men. But he said to his disciples, 'Get them to sit down in parties ofabout fifty.'	14 Car il y avait bien là 5 000 personnes. Jésus dit à ses disciples: "Faites-les s’asseoir par groupes de 50.”
15 They did so and made them al sit down.	15 Les disciples firent ainsi et tout le monde s’installa.
16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven, and said the blessing overthem; then he broke them and handed them to his disciples to distribute among the crowd.	16 Alors Jésus prend les cinq pains et les deux poissons, il lève le regard vers le ciel, il prononce la bénédiction, il rompt le pain et commence à en donner aux disciples pour qu’ils servent la foule.
17 They al ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps left over were col ected they fil ed twelvebaskets.	17 Ils mangèrent et tous eurent à leur faim. Après quoi on ramassa les restes: il y en avait douze paniers!
18 Now it happened that he was praying alone, and his disciples came to him and he put this question tothem, 'Who do the crowds say I am?'	18 Un jour, Jésus était allé un peu à l’écart pour prier, mais ses disciples étaient avec lui. Il les interrogea sur ce que pensait la foule: "Qui disent-ils que je suis?”
19 And they answered, 'Some say John the Baptist; others Elijah; others again one of the ancientprophets come back to life.'	19 Ils répondirent: "Pour certains tu es Jean-Baptiste, pour d’autres Élie, pour d’autres encore un des anciens prophètes qui est ressuscité.”
20 'But you,' he said to them, 'who do you say I am?' It was Peter who spoke up. 'The Christ of God,' hesaid.	20 Il leur demanda: "Et vous, qui dites-vous que je suis?” Pierre répondit: "Le Messie de Dieu!”
21 But he gave them strict orders and charged them not to say this to anyone.	21 Jésus leur fit un avertissement et leur commanda de ne le dire à personne,
22 He said, 'The Son of man is destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and chief priestsand scribes and to be put to death, and to be raised up on the third day.'	22 "Car, leur disait-il, le Fils de l’Homme doit souffrir beaucoup et être rejeté par les anciens, les chefs des prêtres et les maîtres de la Loi. Il sera mis à mort et le troisième jour il ressuscitera.”
23 Then, speaking to al , he said, 'If anyone wants to be a fol ower of mine, let him renounce himself andtake up his cross every day and fol ow me.	23 D’ailleurs Jésus disait à tous: "Si quelqu’un veut marcher derrière moi, qu’il renonce à lui-même, qu’il prenne chaque jour sa croix et qu’il me suive!
24 Anyone who wants to save his life wil lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, wil save it.	24 Oui, celui qui veut se sauver lui-même se perdra; mais celui qui se sacrifie pour moi se sauvera.
25 What benefit is it to anyone to win the whole world and forfeit or lose his very self?	25 Où est le bénéfice si l’on a gagné le monde entier et qu’on s’est détruit ou diminué soi-même?
26 For if anyone is ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of man wil be ashamed when hecomes in his own glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.	26 Celui qui rougira de moi et de mes paroles, le Fils de l’Homme aussi rougira de lui quand il viendra dans sa gloire avec le Père et les saints anges.
27 'I tel you truly, there are some standing here who wil not taste death before they see the kingdom ofGod.'	27 “Je vous le dis en toute vérité: il en est parmi ceux qui sont ici présents qui ne mourront pas sans avoir vu le royaume de Dieu.”
28 Now about eight days after this had been said, he took with him Peter, John and James and went upthe mountain to pray.	28 Huit jours après ces paroles, Jésus prit avec lui Pierre, Jean et Jacques, et il gravit la montagne pour prier.
29 And it happened that, as he was praying, the aspect of his face was changed and his clothing becamesparkling white.	29 Pendant qu’il priait, son visage changea d’aspect et son vêtement devint d’une blancheur éblouissante.
30 And suddenly there were two men talking to him; they were Moses and Elijah	30 Voici que deux hommes parlaient avec lui: c’étaient Moïse et Élie;
31 appearing in glory, and they were speaking of his passing which he was to accomplish in Jerusalem.	31 Ils apparaissaient dans un état de gloire et parlaient de son départ qui devait avoir lieu à Jérusalem.
32 Peter and his companions were heavy with sleep, but they woke up and saw his glory and the two menstanding with him.	32 Pierre et ses compagnons étaient accablés de sommeil, mais une fois réveillés, ils virent sa gloire et les deux hommes qui se tenaient près de lui.
33 As these were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, 'Master, it is wonderful for us to be here; so let usmake three shelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.' He did not know what he was saying.	33 Comme ceux-ci allaient se séparer de lui, Pierre dit à Jésus: "Maître, cela tombe bien que nous soyons ici. Nous allons dresser trois tentes: une pour toi, une pour Moïse et une pour Élie.” Il ne savait pas ce qu’il disait.
34 As he was saying this, a cloud came and covered them with shadow; and when they went into thecloud the disciples were afraid.	34 Tandis qu’il parlait ainsi, une nuée vint les prendre sous son ombre, et lorsqu’ils entrèrent dans la nuée la crainte s’empara d’eux.
35 And a voice came from the cloud saying, 'This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to him.'	35 Mais des paroles se firent entendre venant de la nuée: "Celui-ci est mon Fils, et l’homme de mon choix, écoutez-le!”
36 And after the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. The disciples kept silence and, at that time,told no one what they had seen.	36 Aussitôt après ces paroles, Jésus se trouva seul. Les disciples gardèrent le silence; en ces jours-là ils ne racontèrent rien à personne de ce qu’ils avaient vu.
37 Now it happened that on the fol owing day when they were coming down from the mountain a largecrowd came to meet him.	37 Le jour suivant, comme ils descendaient de la montagne, tout un groupe vint à la rencontre de Jésus.
38 And suddenly a man in the crowd cried out. 'Master,' he said, 'I implore you to look at my son: he is myonly child.	38 Il y avait dans ce groupe un homme qui se mit à crier: “Maître, je t’en supplie, occupe-toi de mon garçon qui est mon seul enfant!
39 A spirit wil suddenly take hold of him, and all at once it gives a sudden cry and throws the boy intoconvulsions with foaming at the mouth; it is slow to leave him, but when it does, it leaves the boy worn out.	39 Le démon s’empare de lui à l’improviste, et alors il se met à crier. Le démon le secoue violemment et le fait baver, et il ne le lâche qu’à grand-peine, le laissant à demi-mort.
40 I begged your disciples to drive it out, and they could not.'	40 J’ai demandé à tes disciples de le jeter dehors, et ils n’y sont pas arrivés.”
41 In reply Jesus said, 'Faithless and perverse generation! How much longer must I be among you andput up with you? Bring your son here.'	41 Jésus prend alors la parole: "Ô génération sans foi, égarée, jusqu’à quand serai-je avec vous et me faudra-t-il vous supporter? Amène ici ton fils!”
42 Even while the boy was coming, the devil threw him to the ground in convulsions. But Jesus rebukedthe unclean spirit and cured the boy and gave him back to his father,	42 À peine arrivé, le démon le jette à terre et le secoue violemment. Mais Jésus parle sévèrement à l’esprit impur, il guérit le garçon et le rend à son père.
43 and everyone was awestruck by the greatness of God. But while everyone was ful of admiration for alhe did, he said to his disciples,	43 Tous restèrent sous le coup d’une telle intervention de Dieu. Comme tous étaient émerveillés de ce qu’il faisait, Jésus dit à ses disciples:
44 'For your part, you must have these words constantly in mind: The Son of man is going to be deliveredinto the power of men.'	44 "Vous, mettez-vous bien ceci dans la tête: le Fils de l’Homme va être livré aux mains des hommes.”
45 But they did not understand what he said; it was hidden from them so that they should not see themeaning of it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.	45 Mais ils ne comprirent pas cette déclaration: elle restait comme voilée pour eux et ils n’en saisissaient pas le sens. Cependant ils craignaient de l’interroger à ce sujet.
46 An argument started between them about which of them was the greatest.	46 Ils en étaient venus à se demander lequel d’entre eux était le plus important.
47 Jesus knew what thoughts were going through their minds, and he took a little child whom he set byhis side	47 Mais Jésus savait à quoi ils pensaient. Il prit un petit enfant et le plaça près de lui,
48 and then he said to them, 'Anyone who welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; andanyone who welcomes me, welcomes the one who sent me. The least among you all is the one who is thegreatest.'	48 puis il leur dit: "Celui qui reçoit ce petit enfant en mon nom, c’est moi qu’il reçoit. Et celui qui me reçoit, reçoit celui qui m’a envoyé. Le plus petit d’entre vous, c’est lui qui est grand!”
49 John spoke up. 'Master,' he said, 'we saw someone driving out devils in your name, and because he isnot with us we tried to stop him.'	49 Jean prit la parole: "Maître, dit-il, nous avons vu quelqu’un qui se sert de ton nom pour chasser les démons. Nous l’en avons empêché, car il ne vient pas avec nous.”
50 But Jesus said to him, 'You must not stop him: anyone who is not against you is for you.'	50 Jésus lui répondit: "Ne l’empêchez pas! Celui qui n’est pas contre vous est avec vous.”
51 Now it happened that as the time drew near for him to be taken up, he resolutely turned his facetowards Jerusalem	51 Comme le temps approchait où il devait être enlevé de ce monde, Jésus prit résolument le chemin de Jérusalem.
52 and sent messengers ahead of him. These set out, and they went into a Samaritan vil age to makepreparations for him,	52 Voici qu’il envoie des messagers devant lui, ils partent et entrent dans un village de Samaritains pour préparer son arrivée.
53 but the people would not receive him because he was making for Jerusalem.	53 Mais les gens ne veulent pas les recevoir, car ils font route vers Jérusalem.
54 Seeing this, the disciples James and John said, 'Lord, do you want us to cal down fire from heaven toburn them up?'	54 Voyant cela, les disciples Jacques et Jean disent à Jésus: "Seigneur, si tu voulais, nous dirions une parole pour que le feu descende du ciel et les réduise en cendres.”
55 But he turned and rebuked them,	55 Jésus alors se retourne et les reprend: "Vous ne savez pas de quel esprit vous êtes!”,
56 and they went on to another village.	56 et ils se dirigent vers un autre village.
57 As they travel ed along they met a man on the road who said to him, 'I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'	57 Tandis qu’ils faisaient route, quelqu’un lui dit: "Je suis prêt à te suivre partout où tu iras!”
58 Jesus answered, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man hasnowhere to lay his head.'	58 Jésus lui répondit: "Les renards ont un terrier, les oiseaux du ciel ont un nid, mais le Fils de l’Homme n’a pas où reposer sa tête.”
59 Another to whom he said, 'Fol ow me,' replied, 'Let me go and bury my father first.'	59 Il dit à un autre: "Suis-moi!” Celui-ci répondit: "Seigneur, permets-moi d’abord de retourner, que je puisse enterrer mon père.”
60 But he answered, 'Leave the dead to bury their dead; your duty is to go and spread the news of thekingdom of God.'	60 Jésus lui dit: "Laisse les morts enterrer leurs morts, mais toi, pars annoncer le Royaume de Dieu!”
61 Another said, 'I wil fol ow you, sir, but first let me go and say good -- bye to my people at home.'	61 Un autre encore lui dit: "Je suis prêt à te suivre, Seigneur; mais laisse-moi d’abord dire adieu à ma famille.”
62 Jesus said to him, 'Once the hand is laid on the plough, no one who looks back is fit for the kingdom ofGod.'	62 Jésus lui dit: "Celui qui a mis la main à la charrue et puis regarde en arrière, n’est pas bon pour le Royaume de Dieu.”
