Luke 9

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 He cal ed the Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases,	1 Convocando a los Doce, les dio autoridad y poder sobre todos los demonios, y para curar enfermedades;
2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.	2 y los envió a proclamar el Reino de Dios y a curar.
3 He said to them, 'Take nothing for the journey: neither staff, nor haversack, nor bread, nor money; anddo not have a spare tunic.	3 Y les dijo: «No toméis nada para el camino, ni bastón, ni alforja, ni pan, ni plata; ni tengáis dos túnicas cada uno.
4 Whatever house you enter, stay there; and when you leave let your departure be from there.	4 Cuando entréis en una casa, quedaos en ella hasta que os marchéis de allí.
5 As for those who do not welcome you, when you leave their town shake the dust from your feet asevidence against them.'	5 En cuanto a los que no os reciban, saliendo de aquella ciudad, sacudid el polvo de vuestros pies en testimonio contra ellos».
6 So they set out and went from village to vil age proclaiming the good news and healing everywhere.	6 Saliendo, pues, recorrían los pueblos, anunciando la Buena Nueva y curando por todas partes.
7 Meanwhile Herod the tetrarch had heard about al that was going on; and he was puzzled, becausesome people were saying that John had risen from the dead,	7 Se enteró el tetrarca Herodes de todo lo que pasaba, y estaba perplejo; porque unos decían que Juan había resucitado de entre los muertos;
8 others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life.	8 otros, que Elías se había aparecido; y otros, que uno de los antiguos profetas había resucitado.
9 But Herod said, 'John? I beheaded him. So who is this I hear such reports about?' And he was anxiousto see him.	9 Herodes dijo: «A Juan, le decapité yo. ¿Quién es, pues, éste de quien oigo tales cosas?» Y buscaba verle.
10 On their return the apostles gave him an account of al they had done. Then he took them with him andwithdrew towards a town called Bethsaida where they could be by themselves.	10 Cuando los apóstoles regresaron, le contaron cuanto habían hecho. Y él, tomándolos consigo, se retiró aparte, hacia una ciudad llamada Bestsaida.
11 But the crowds got to know and they went after him. He made them welcome and talked to them aboutthe kingdom of God; and he cured those who were in need of healing.	11 Pero las gentes lo supieron, y le siguieron; y él, acogiéndolas, les hablabla acerca del Reino de Dios, y curaba a los que tenían necesidad de ser curados.
12 It was late afternoon when the Twelve came up to him and said, 'Send the people away, and they cango to the vil ages and farms round about to find lodging and food; for we are in a lonely place here.'	12 Pero el día había comenzado a declinar, y acercándose los Doce, le dijeron: «Despide a la gente para que vayan a los pueblos y aldeas del contorno y busquen alojamiento y comida, porque aquí estamos en un lugar deshabitado».
13 He replied, 'Give them something to eat yourselves.' But they said, 'We have no more than five loavesand two fish, unless we are to go ourselves and buy food for al these people.'	13 El les dijo: «Dadles vosotros de comer». Pero ellos respondieron: «No tenemos más que cinco panes y dos peces; a no ser que vayamos nosotros a comprar alimentos para toda esta gente».
14 For there were about five thousand men. But he said to his disciples, 'Get them to sit down in parties ofabout fifty.'	14 Pues había como 5.000 hombres. El dijo a sus discípulos: «Haced que se acomoden por grupos de unos cincuenta».
15 They did so and made them al sit down.	15 Lo hicieron así, e hicieron acomodarse a todos.
16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven, and said the blessing overthem; then he broke them and handed them to his disciples to distribute among the crowd.	16 Tomó entonces los cinco panes y los dos peces, y levantando los ojos al cielo, pronunció sobre ellos la bendición y los partió, y los iba dando a los discípulos para que los fueran sirviendo a la gente.
17 They al ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps left over were col ected they fil ed twelvebaskets.	17 Comieron todos hasta saciarse. Se recogieron los trozos que les habían sobrado: doce canastos.
18 Now it happened that he was praying alone, and his disciples came to him and he put this question tothem, 'Who do the crowds say I am?'	18 Y sucedió que mientras él estaba orando a solas, se hallaban con él los discípulos y él les preguntó: «¿Quién dice la gente que soy yo?»
19 And they answered, 'Some say John the Baptist; others Elijah; others again one of the ancientprophets come back to life.'	19 Ellos respondieron: «Unos, que Juan el Bautista; otros, que Elías; otros, que un profeta de los antiguos había resucitado».
20 'But you,' he said to them, 'who do you say I am?' It was Peter who spoke up. 'The Christ of God,' hesaid.	20 Les dijo: «Y vosotros, ¿quién decís que soy yo?» Pedro le contestó: «El Cristo de Dios».
21 But he gave them strict orders and charged them not to say this to anyone.	21 Pero les mandó enérgicamente que no dijeran esto a nadie.
22 He said, 'The Son of man is destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and chief priestsand scribes and to be put to death, and to be raised up on the third day.'	22 Dijo: «El Hijo del hombre debe sufrir mucho, y ser reprobado por los ancianos, los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas, ser matado y resucitar al tercer día».
23 Then, speaking to al , he said, 'If anyone wants to be a fol ower of mine, let him renounce himself andtake up his cross every day and fol ow me.	23 Decía a todos: «Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz cada día, y sígame.
24 Anyone who wants to save his life wil lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, wil save it.	24 Porque quien quiera salvar su vida, la perderá; pero quien pierda su vida por mí, ése la salvará.
25 What benefit is it to anyone to win the whole world and forfeit or lose his very self?	25 Pues, ¿de qué le sirve al hombre haber ganado el mundo entero, si él mismo se pierde o se arruina?
26 For if anyone is ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of man wil be ashamed when hecomes in his own glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.	26 Porque quien se avergüence de mí y de mis palabras, de ése se avergonzará el Hijo del hombre, cuando venga en su gloria, en la de su Padre y en la de los santos ángeles.
27 'I tel you truly, there are some standing here who wil not taste death before they see the kingdom ofGod.'	27 «Pues de verdad os digo que hay algunos, entre los aquí presentes, que no gustarán la muerte hasta que vean el Reino de Dios».
28 Now about eight days after this had been said, he took with him Peter, John and James and went upthe mountain to pray.	28 Sucedió que unos ocho días después de estas palabras, tomó consigo a Pedro, Juan y Santiago, y subió al monte a orar.
29 And it happened that, as he was praying, the aspect of his face was changed and his clothing becamesparkling white.	29 Y sucedió que, mientras oraba, el aspecto de su rostro se mudó, y sus vestidos eran de una blancura fulgurante,
30 And suddenly there were two men talking to him; they were Moses and Elijah	30 y he aquí que conversaban con él dos hombres, que eran Moisés y Elías;
31 appearing in glory, and they were speaking of his passing which he was to accomplish in Jerusalem.	31 los cuales aparecían en gloria, y hablaban de su partida, que iba a cumplir en Jerusalén.
32 Peter and his companions were heavy with sleep, but they woke up and saw his glory and the two menstanding with him.	32 Pedro y sus compañeros estaban cargados de sueño, pero permanecían despiertos, y vieron su gloria y a los dos hombres que estaban con él.
33 As these were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, 'Master, it is wonderful for us to be here; so let usmake three shelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.' He did not know what he was saying.	33 Y sucedió que, al separarse ellos de él, dijo Pedro a Jesús: «Maestro, bueno es estarnos aquí. Vamos a hacer tres tiendas, una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías», sin saber lo que decía.
34 As he was saying this, a cloud came and covered them with shadow; and when they went into thecloud the disciples were afraid.	34 Estaba diciendo estas cosas cuando se formó una nube y los cubrió con su sombra; y al entrar en la nube, se llenaron de temor.
35 And a voice came from the cloud saying, 'This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to him.'	35 Y vino una voz desde la nube, que decía: «Este es mi Hijo, mi Elegido; escuchadle».
36 And after the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. The disciples kept silence and, at that time,told no one what they had seen.	36 Y cuando la voz hubo sonado, se encontró Jesús solo. Ellos callaron y, por aquellos días, no dijeron a nadie nada de lo que habían visto.
37 Now it happened that on the fol owing day when they were coming down from the mountain a largecrowd came to meet him.	37 Sucedió que al día siguiente, cuando bajaron del monte, le salió al encuentro mucha gente.
38 And suddenly a man in the crowd cried out. 'Master,' he said, 'I implore you to look at my son: he is myonly child.	38 En esto, un hombre de entre la gente empezó a gritar: «Maestro, te suplico que mires a mi hijo, porque es el único que tengo,
39 A spirit wil suddenly take hold of him, and all at once it gives a sudden cry and throws the boy intoconvulsions with foaming at the mouth; it is slow to leave him, but when it does, it leaves the boy worn out.	39 y he aquí que un espíritu se apodera de él y de pronto empieza a dar gritos, le hace retorcerse echando espuma, y difícilmente se aparta de él, dejándole quebrantado.
40 I begged your disciples to drive it out, and they could not.'	40 He pedido a tus discípulos que lo expulsaran, pero no han podido».
41 In reply Jesus said, 'Faithless and perverse generation! How much longer must I be among you andput up with you? Bring your son here.'	41 Respondió Jesús: «¡Oh generación incrédula y perversa! ¿Hasta cuándo estaré con vosotros y habré de soportaros? ¡Trae acá a tu hijo!»
42 Even while the boy was coming, the devil threw him to the ground in convulsions. But Jesus rebukedthe unclean spirit and cured the boy and gave him back to his father,	42 Cuando se acercaba, el demonio le arrojó por tierra y le agitó violentamente; pero Jesús increpó al espíritu inmundo, curó al niño y lo devolvió a su padre;
43 and everyone was awestruck by the greatness of God. But while everyone was ful of admiration for alhe did, he said to his disciples,	43 y todos quedaron atónitos ante la grandeza de Dios. Estando todos maravillados por todas las cosas que hacía, dijo a sus discípulos:
44 'For your part, you must have these words constantly in mind: The Son of man is going to be deliveredinto the power of men.'	44 «Poned en vuestros oídos estas palabras: el Hijo del hombre va a ser entregado en manos de los hombres».
45 But they did not understand what he said; it was hidden from them so that they should not see themeaning of it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.	45 Pero ellos no entendían lo que les decía; les estaba velado de modo que no lo comprendían y temían preguntarle acerca de este asunto.
46 An argument started between them about which of them was the greatest.	46 Se suscitó una discusión entre ellos sobre quién de ellos sería el mayor.
47 Jesus knew what thoughts were going through their minds, and he took a little child whom he set byhis side	47 Conociendo Jesús lo que pensaban en su corazón, tomó a un niño, le puso a su lado,
48 and then he said to them, 'Anyone who welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; andanyone who welcomes me, welcomes the one who sent me. The least among you all is the one who is thegreatest.'	48 y les dijo: «El que reciba a este niño en mi nombre, a mí me recibe; y el que me reciba a mí, recibe a Aquel que me ha enviado; pues el más pequeño de entre vosotros, ése es mayor».
49 John spoke up. 'Master,' he said, 'we saw someone driving out devils in your name, and because he isnot with us we tried to stop him.'	49 Tomando Juan la palabra, dijo: «Maestro, hemos visto a uno que expulsaba demonios en tu nombre, y tratamos de impedírselo, porque no viene con nosotros».
50 But Jesus said to him, 'You must not stop him: anyone who is not against you is for you.'	50 Pero Jesús le dijo: «No se lo impidáis, pues el que no está contra vosotros, está por vosotros».
51 Now it happened that as the time drew near for him to be taken up, he resolutely turned his facetowards Jerusalem	51 Sucedió que como se iban cumpliendo los días de su asunción, él se afirmó en su voluntad de ir a Jerusalén,
52 and sent messengers ahead of him. These set out, and they went into a Samaritan vil age to makepreparations for him,	52 y envió mensajeros delante de sí, que fueron y entraron en un pueblo de samaritanos para prepararle posada;
53 but the people would not receive him because he was making for Jerusalem.	53 pero no le recibieron porque tenía intención de ir a Jerusalén.
54 Seeing this, the disciples James and John said, 'Lord, do you want us to cal down fire from heaven toburn them up?'	54 Al verlo sus discípulos Santiago y Juan, dijeron: «Señor, ¿quieres que digamos que baje fuego del cielo y los consuma?»
55 But he turned and rebuked them,	55 Pero volviéndose, les reprendió;
56 and they went on to another village.	56 y se fueron a otro pueblo.
57 As they travel ed along they met a man on the road who said to him, 'I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'	57 Mientras iban caminando, uno le dijo: «Te seguiré adondequiera que vayas».
58 Jesus answered, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man hasnowhere to lay his head.'	58 Jesús le dijo: «Las zorras tienen guaridas, y las aves del cielo nidos; pero el Hijo del hombre no tiene donde reclinar la cabeza».
59 Another to whom he said, 'Fol ow me,' replied, 'Let me go and bury my father first.'	59 A otro dijo: «Sígueme». El respondió: «Déjame ir primero a enterrar a mi padre».
60 But he answered, 'Leave the dead to bury their dead; your duty is to go and spread the news of thekingdom of God.'	60 Le respondió: «Deja que los muertos entierren a sus muertos; tú vete a anunciar el Reino de Dios».
61 Another said, 'I wil fol ow you, sir, but first let me go and say good -- bye to my people at home.'	61 También otro le dijo: «Te seguiré, Señor; pero déjame antes despedirme de los de mi casa».
62 Jesus said to him, 'Once the hand is laid on the plough, no one who looks back is fit for the kingdom ofGod.'	62 Le dijo Jesús: «Nadie que pone la mano en el arado y mira hacia atrás es apto para el Reino de Dios».
