Luke 9

1 He cal ed the Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases,	1 ויקרא אל שנים העשר ויתן להם גבורה ושלטן על כל השדים ולרפא חליים
2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.	2 וישלחם לקרא את מלכות האלהים ולרפא את החלים
3 He said to them, 'Take nothing for the journey: neither staff, nor haversack, nor bread, nor money; anddo not have a spare tunic.	3 ויאמר להם אל תקחו מאומה לדרך לא מטות ולא תרמיל ולא לחם ולא כסף ואל יהיה לאיש מכם שתי כתנות
4 Whatever house you enter, stay there; and when you leave let your departure be from there.	4 והבית אשר תבאו בו שם שבו לכם ומשם צאו
5 As for those who do not welcome you, when you leave their town shake the dust from your feet asevidence against them.'	5 וכל אשר לא יקבלו אתכם צאו מן העיר ההיא ונערו את העפר מעל רגליכם לעדות בהם
6 So they set out and went from village to vil age proclaiming the good news and healing everywhere.	6 ויצאו ויעברו בכפרים מבשרים את הבשורה ומרפאים בכל מקום
7 Meanwhile Herod the tetrarch had heard about al that was going on; and he was puzzled, becausesome people were saying that John had risen from the dead,	7 וישמע הורדוס שר הרבע את כל אשר נעשה על ידו ותפעם רוחו כי יש אשר אמרו יוחנן קם מן המתים
8 others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life.	8 ויש שאמרו אליהו נראה ואחרים אמרו נביא קם מן הקדמונים
9 But Herod said, 'John? I beheaded him. So who is this I hear such reports about?' And he was anxiousto see him.	9 ויאמר הורדוס הן אנכי נשאתי את ראש יוחנן מעליו ומי אפוא הוא אשר אני שמע עליו כזאת ויבקש לראותו
10 On their return the apostles gave him an account of al they had done. Then he took them with him andwithdrew towards a town called Bethsaida where they could be by themselves.	10 וישובו השליחים ויספרו לו את כל אשר עשו ויקחם אליו ויסר לבדד אל מקום חרב אשר לעיר הנקראה בית צידה
11 But the crowds got to know and they went after him. He made them welcome and talked to them aboutthe kingdom of God; and he cured those who were in need of healing.	11 והמון העם כאשר ידעו את זאת הלכו אחריו ויקבלם וידבר אליהם על מלכות האלהים וירפא את הצריכים לרפואה
12 It was late afternoon when the Twelve came up to him and said, 'Send the people away, and they cango to the vil ages and farms round about to find lodging and food; for we are in a lonely place here.'	12 והיום רפה לערב ושנים העשר קרבו ויאמרו אליו שלח נא את העם וילכו אל הכפרים והחצרים אשר סביבותינו ללון שם ולמצא מזון כי פה אנחנו במקום חרבה
13 He replied, 'Give them something to eat yourselves.' But they said, 'We have no more than five loavesand two fish, unless we are to go ourselves and buy food for al these people.'	13 ויאמר אליהם תנו אתם להם לאכל ויאמרו אין לנו כי אם חמשת ככרות לחם ודגים שנים בלתי אם נלך ונקנה אכל לכל העם הזה
14 For there were about five thousand men. But he said to his disciples, 'Get them to sit down in parties ofabout fifty.'	14 כי היו כחמשת אלפי איש ויאמר אל תלמידיו הושיבו אתם שורות שורות חמשים בשורה
15 They did so and made them al sit down.	15 ויעשו כן ויושיבו את כלם
16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven, and said the blessing overthem; then he broke them and handed them to his disciples to distribute among the crowd.	16 ויקח את חמשת ככרות הלחם ואת שני הדגים וישא עיניו השמימה ויברך עליהם ויפרס ויתן לתלמידיו לשום לפני העם
17 They al ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps left over were col ected they fil ed twelvebaskets.	17 ויאכלו כלם וישבעו וישאו מן הפתותים הנותרים להם שנים עשר סלים
18 Now it happened that he was praying alone, and his disciples came to him and he put this question tothem, 'Who do the crowds say I am?'	18 ויהי הוא מתפלל לבדד ויאספו אליו תלמידיו וישאל אתם לאמר מה אמרים עלי המון העם מי אני
19 And they answered, 'Some say John the Baptist; others Elijah; others again one of the ancientprophets come back to life.'	19 ויענו ויאמרו יוחנן המטביל ואחרים אמרים אליהו ואחרים אמרים נביא קם מן הקדמונים
20 'But you,' he said to them, 'who do you say I am?' It was Peter who spoke up. 'The Christ of God,' hesaid.	20 ויאמר אליהם ואתם מה אתם אמרים מי אני ויען פטרוס ויאמר משיח האלהים אתה
21 But he gave them strict orders and charged them not to say this to anyone.	21 ויצו אתם בגערה לבלתי הגיד לאיש את הדבר הזה
22 He said, 'The Son of man is destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and chief priestsand scribes and to be put to death, and to be raised up on the third day.'	22 ויאמר מן הצרך הוא אשר בן האדם יענה הרבה וימאס מן הזקנים והכהנים הגדולים והסופרים ויהרג וביום השלישי קום יקום
23 Then, speaking to al , he said, 'If anyone wants to be a fol ower of mine, let him renounce himself andtake up his cross every day and fol ow me.	23 ואל כלם אמר איש כי יחפץ ללכת אחרי יכחש בנפשו ויום יום ישא את צלבו והלך אחרי
24 Anyone who wants to save his life wil lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, wil save it.	24 כי כל אשר יחפץ להושיע את נפשו תאבד נפשו ממנו וכל אשר יאבד את נפשו למעני הוא יושיענה
25 What benefit is it to anyone to win the whole world and forfeit or lose his very self?	25 כי מה יועיל האדם כי יקנה את כל העולם ואבד והשחית את נפשו
26 For if anyone is ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of man wil be ashamed when hecomes in his own glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.	26 כי כל אשר הייתי אני ודברי לו לחרפה הוא יהיה לחרפה לבן האדם כאשר יבא בכבודו ובכבוד האב והמלאכים הקדושים
27 'I tel you truly, there are some standing here who wil not taste death before they see the kingdom ofGod.'	27 ובאמת אני אמר לכם יש מן העמדים פה אשר לא יטעמו מות עד כי יראו את מלכות האלהים
28 Now about eight days after this had been said, he took with him Peter, John and James and went upthe mountain to pray.	28 ויהי כשמנה ימים אחרי הדברים האלה ויקח אליו את פטרוס ואת יוחנן ואת יעקב ויעל אל ההר להתפלל שם
29 And it happened that, as he was praying, the aspect of his face was changed and his clothing becamesparkling white.	29 ויהי בהתפללו נשתנה מראה פניו ולבושו הלבין והבריק
30 And suddenly there were two men talking to him; they were Moses and Elijah	30 והנה שני אנשים מדברים אתו והמה משה ואליהו
31 appearing in glory, and they were speaking of his passing which he was to accomplish in Jerusalem.	31 אשר נראו בכבוד והגידו את אחריתו אשר ימלאנה בירושלים
32 Peter and his companions were heavy with sleep, but they woke up and saw his glory and the two menstanding with him.	32 ויהיו פטרוס ואשר אתו נרדמים ובהקיצם ראו את כבודו ואת שני האנשים העמדים עליו
33 As these were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, 'Master, it is wonderful for us to be here; so let usmake three shelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.' He did not know what he was saying.	33 ויהי בהפרדם ממנו ויאמר פטרוס אל ישוע מורה טוב היותנו פה נעשה נא שלש סכות לך אחת ולמשה אחת ולאליהו אחת ולא ידע מה דבר
34 As he was saying this, a cloud came and covered them with shadow; and when they went into thecloud the disciples were afraid.	34 הוא מדבר כזאת והנה ענן סכך עליהם וכבואם בענן נבעתו
35 And a voice came from the cloud saying, 'This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to him.'	35 ויצא קול מן הענן אמר זה בני ידידי אליו תשמעון
36 And after the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. The disciples kept silence and, at that time,told no one what they had seen.	36 ובהיות הקול נשאר ישוע לבדו והמה החשו ולא הגידו דבר לאיש בימים ההם מכל אשר ראו
37 Now it happened that on the fol owing day when they were coming down from the mountain a largecrowd came to meet him.	37 ויהי ממחרת ברדתם מן ההר ויצא עם רב לקראתו
38 And suddenly a man in the crowd cried out. 'Master,' he said, 'I implore you to look at my son: he is myonly child.	38 והנה איש אחד מן העם צעק לאמר אנא רבי פנה נא אל בני כי יחיד הוא לי
39 A spirit wil suddenly take hold of him, and all at once it gives a sudden cry and throws the boy intoconvulsions with foaming at the mouth; it is slow to leave him, but when it does, it leaves the boy worn out.	39 והנה רוח אחז בו ופתאם הוא מצעק והרוח מרוצץ אתו בהוריד רירו ומקשה לסור ממנו ובסורו ידכא אתו
40 I begged your disciples to drive it out, and they could not.'	40 ואבקש מתלמידיך לגרשו ולא יכלו
41 In reply Jesus said, 'Faithless and perverse generation! How much longer must I be among you andput up with you? Bring your son here.'	41 ויען ישוע ויאמר הוי דור חסר אמונה ופתלתל עד מתי אהיה עמכם ואסבל אתכם הבא הנה את בנך
42 Even while the boy was coming, the devil threw him to the ground in convulsions. But Jesus rebukedthe unclean spirit and cured the boy and gave him back to his father,	42 ויהי אך הקריב לבוא וירעצהו השד וירוצצהו וישוע גער ברוח הטמא וירפא את הנער וישיבהו לאביו
43 and everyone was awestruck by the greatness of God. But while everyone was ful of admiration for alhe did, he said to his disciples,	43 וישתוממו כלם על גדלת האלהים ויהי בתמהם כלם על כל אשר עשה ויאמר ישוע אל תלמידיו
44 'For your part, you must have these words constantly in mind: The Son of man is going to be deliveredinto the power of men.'	44 שימו אתם באזניכם את הדברים האלה כי עתיד בן האדם להמסר בידי בני האדם
45 But they did not understand what he said; it was hidden from them so that they should not see themeaning of it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.	45 והמה לא הבינו את המאמר הזה ונעלם הוא מדעתם וייראו לשאל אתו על המאמר הזה
46 An argument started between them about which of them was the greatest.	46 ויעל על לבבם לחשוב מי הוא הגדול בהם
47 Jesus knew what thoughts were going through their minds, and he took a little child whom he set byhis side	47 וירא ישוע את מחשבת לבם ויקח ילד ויעמידהו אצלו
48 and then he said to them, 'Anyone who welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; andanyone who welcomes me, welcomes the one who sent me. The least among you all is the one who is thegreatest.'	48 ויאמר אליהם כל אשר יקבל את הילד הזה לשמי אותי הוא מקבל וכל אשר יקבל אותי הוא מקבל את אשר שלחני כי הקטן בכלכם הוא יהיה הגדול
49 John spoke up. 'Master,' he said, 'we saw someone driving out devils in your name, and because he isnot with us we tried to stop him.'	49 ויען יוחנן ויאמר מורה ראינו איש מגרש שדים בשמך ונכלא אותו יען איננו הולך עמנו
50 But Jesus said to him, 'You must not stop him: anyone who is not against you is for you.'	50 ויאמר ישוע אליו אל תכלאו כי כל אשר איננו נגדנו בעדנו הוא
51 Now it happened that as the time drew near for him to be taken up, he resolutely turned his facetowards Jerusalem	51 ויהי כמלאת ימי העלותו והוא שם את פניו ללכת ירושלים
52 and sent messengers ahead of him. These set out, and they went into a Samaritan vil age to makepreparations for him,	52 וישלח מלאכים לפניו וילכו ויבאו אל אחד מכפרי השמרונים להכין לו
53 but the people would not receive him because he was making for Jerusalem.	53 ולא קבלהו על אשר היו פניו הלכים ירושלים
54 Seeing this, the disciples James and John said, 'Lord, do you want us to cal down fire from heaven toburn them up?'	54 ויאמרו יעקב ויוחנן תלמידיו כראותם זאת לאמר אדנינו התרצה ונאמר כי תרד אש מן השמים ותאכלם כאשר עשה גם אליהו
55 But he turned and rebuked them,	55 ויפן ויגער בם ויאמר הלא ידעתם בני רוח מי אתם
56 and they went on to another village.	56 כי בן האדם לא בא לאבד נפשות אדם כי אם להושיעם וילכו להם אל כפר אחר
57 As they travel ed along they met a man on the road who said to him, 'I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'	57 ויהי בלכתם בדרך ויאמר אליו איש אדני אלכה אחריך אל כל אשר תלך
58 Jesus answered, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man hasnowhere to lay his head.'	58 ויאמר אליו ישוע לשועלים יש חורי עפר ולעוף השמים קנים ובן האדם אין לו מקום להניח שם את ראשו
59 Another to whom he said, 'Fol ow me,' replied, 'Let me go and bury my father first.'	59 ואל איש אחר אמר לך אחרי והוא אמר אדני תן לי ואלכה בראשונה לקבר את אבי
60 But he answered, 'Leave the dead to bury their dead; your duty is to go and spread the news of thekingdom of God.'	60 ויאמר אליו ישוע הנח למתים לקבר את מתיהם ואתה לך הודע את מלכות האלהים
61 Another said, 'I wil fol ow you, sir, but first let me go and say good -- bye to my people at home.'	61 ויאמר עוד איש אחר אלכה אחריך אדני אך הניחה לי בראשונה להפטר מבני ביתי
62 Jesus said to him, 'Once the hand is laid on the plough, no one who looks back is fit for the kingdom ofGod.'	62 ויאמר ישוע כל השם את ידו על המחרשה ומביט אחריו לא יכשר למלכות האלהים
