Luke 18

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Then he told them a parable about the need to pray continual y and never lose heart.	1 Propôs-lhes Jesus uma parábola para mostrar que é necessário orar sempre sem jamais deixar de fazê-lo.
2 'There was a judge in a certain town,' he said, 'who had neither fear of God nor respect for anyone.	2 Havia em certa cidade um juiz que não temia a Deus, nem respeitava pessoa alguma.
3 In the same town there was also a widow who kept on coming to him and saying, "I want justice fromyou against my enemy!"	3 Na mesma cidade vivia também uma viúva que vinha com freqüência à sua presença para dizer-lhe: Faze-me justiça contra o meu adversário.
4 For a long time he refused, but at last he said to himself, "Even though I have neither fear of God norrespect for any human person,	4 Ele, porém, por muito tempo não o quis. Por fim, refletiu consigo: Eu não temo a Deus nem respeito os homens;
5 I must give this widow her just rights since she keeps pestering me, or she wil come and slap me in the face." '	5 todavia, porque esta viúva me importuna, far-lhe-ei justiça, senão ela não cessará de me molestar.
6 And the Lord said, 'You notice what the unjust judge has to say?	6 Prosseguiu o Senhor: Ouvis o que diz este juiz injusto?
7 Now, will not God see justice done to his elect if they keep cal ing to him day and night even though hestill delays to help them?	7 Por acaso não fará Deus justiça aos seus escolhidos, que estão clamando por ele dia e noite? Porventura tardará em socorrê-los?
8 I promise you, he wil see justice done to them, and done speedily. But when the Son of man comes,wil he find any faith on earth?'	8 Digo-vos que em breve lhes fará justiça. Mas, quando vier o Filho do Homem, acaso achará fé sobre a terra?
9 He spoke the following parable to some people who prided themselves on being upright and despisedeveryone else,	9 Jesus lhes disse ainda esta parábola a respeito de alguns que se vangloriavam como se fossem justos, e desprezavam os outros:
10 'Two men went up to the Temple to pray, one a Pharisee, the other a tax col ector.	10 Subiram dois homens ao templo para orar. Um era fariseu; o outro, publicano.
11 The Pharisee stood there and said this prayer to himself, "I thank you, God, that I am not grasping,unjust, adulterous like everyone else, and particularly that I am not like this tax col ector here.	11 O fariseu, em pé, orava no seu interior desta forma: Graças te dou, ó Deus, que não sou como os demais homens: ladrões, injustos e adúlteros; nem como o publicano que está ali.
12 I fast twice a week; I pay tithes on al I get."	12 Jejuo duas vezes na semana e pago o dízimo de todos os meus lucros.
13 The tax collector stood some distance away, not daring even to raise his eyes to heaven; but he beathis breast and said, "God, be merciful to me, a sinner."	13 O publicano, porém, mantendo-se à distância, não ousava sequer levantar os olhos ao céu, mas batia no peito, dizendo: Ó Deus, tem piedade de mim, que sou pecador!
14 This man, I tell you, went home again justified; the other did not. For everyone who raises himself upwil be humbled, but anyone who humbles himself wil be raised up.'	14 Digo-vos: este voltou para casa justificado, e não o outro. Pois todo o que se exaltar será humilhado, e quem se humilhar será exaltado.
15 People even brought babies to him, for him to touch them; but when the disciples saw this theyscolded them.	15 Trouxeram-lhe também criancinhas, para que ele as tocasse. Vendo isto, os discípulos as repreendiam.
16 But Jesus cal ed the children to him and said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not stopthem; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.	16 Jesus, porém, chamou-as e disse: Deixai vir a mim as criancinhas e não as impeçais, porque o Reino de Deus é daqueles que se parecem com elas.
17 In truth I tell you, anyone who does not welcome the kingdom of God like a little child will never enterit.'	17 Em verdade vos declaro: quem não receber o Reino de Deus como uma criancinha, nele não entrará.
18 One of the rulers put this question to him, 'Good Master, what shal I do to inherit eternal life?'	18 Um homem de posição perguntou então a Jesus: Bom Mestre, que devo fazer para possuir a vida eterna?
19 Jesus said to him, 'Why do you cal me good? No one is good but God alone.	19 Jesus respondeu-lhe: Por que me chamas bom? Ninguém é bom senão só Deus.
20 You know the commandments: You shal not commit adultery; You shal not kil ; You shall not steal;You shal not give false witness; Honour your father and your mother.'	20 Conheces os mandamentos: não cometerás adultério; não matarás; não furtarás; não dirás falso testemunho; honrarás pai e mãe.
21 He replied, 'I have kept all these since my earliest days.'	21 Disse ele: Tudo isso tenho guardado desde a minha mocidade.
22 And when Jesus heard this he said, 'There is stil one thing you lack. Sell everything you own anddistribute the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.'	22 A estas palavras, Jesus lhe falou: Ainda te falta uma coisa: vende tudo o que tens, dá-o aos pobres e terás um tesouro no céu; depois, vem e segue-me.
23 But when he heard this he was overcome with sadness, for he was very rich.	23 Ouvindo isto, ele se entristeceu, pois era muito rico.
24 Jesus looked at him and said, 'How hard it is for those who have riches to make their way into thekingdom of God!	24 Vendo-o entristecer-se, disse Jesus: Como é difícil aos ricos entrar no Reino de Deus!
25 Yes, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for someone rich to enter thekingdom of God.'	25 É mais fácil passar o camelo pelo fundo duma agulha do que um rico entrar no Reino de Deus.
26 Those who were listening said, 'In that case, who can be saved?'	26 Perguntaram os ouvintes: Quem então poderá salvar-se?
27 He replied, 'Things that are impossible by human resources, are possible for God.'	27 Respondeu Jesus: O que é impossível aos homens é possível a Deus.
28 But Peter said, 'Look, we left al we had to follow you.'	28 Pedro então disse: Vê, nós abandonamos tudo e te seguimos.
29 He said to them, 'In truth I tel you, there is no one who has left house, wife, brothers, parents orchildren for the sake of the kingdom of God	29 Jesus respondeu: Em verdade vos declaro: ninguém há que tenha abandonado, por amor do Reino de Deus, sua casa, sua mulher, seus irmãos, seus pais ou seus filhos,
30 who will not receive many times as much in this present age and, in the world to come, eternal life.'	30 que não receba muito mais neste mundo e no mundo vindouro a vida eterna.
31 Then taking the Twelve aside he said to them, 'Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everythingthat is written by the prophets about the Son of man is to come true.	31 Em seguida, Jesus tomou à parte os Doze e disse-lhes: Eis que subimos a Jerusalém. Tudo o que foi escrito pelos profetas a respeito do Filho do Homem será cumprido.
32 For he wil be handed over to the gentiles and wil be mocked, maltreated and spat on,	32 Ele será entregue aos pagãos. Hão de escarnecer dele, ultrajá-lo, desprezá-lo;
33 and when they have scourged him they will put him to death; and on the third day he will rise again.'	33 bater-lhe-ão com varas e o farão morrer; e ao terceiro dia ressurgirá.
34 But they could make nothing of this; what he said was quite obscure to them, they did not understandwhat he was tel ing them.	34 Mas eles nada disto compreendiam, e estas palavras eram-lhes um enigma cujo sentido não podiam entender.
35 Now it happened that as he drew near to Jericho there was a blind man sitting at the side of the roadbegging.	35 Ao aproximar-se Jesus de Jericó, estava um cego sentado à beira do caminho, pedindo esmolas.
36 When he heard the crowd going past he asked what it was all about,	36 Ouvindo o ruído da multidão que passava, perguntou o que havia.
37 and they told him that Jesus the Nazarene was passing by.	37 Responderam-lhe: É Jesus de Nazaré, que passa.
38 So he called out, 'Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me.'	38 Ele então exclamou: Jesus, filho de Davi, tem piedade de mim!
39 The people in front scolded him and told him to keep quiet, but he only shouted al the louder, 'Son ofDavid, have pity on me.'	39 Os que vinham na frente repreendiam-no rudemente para que se calasse. Mas ele gritava ainda mais forte: Filho de Davi, tem piedade de mim!
40 Jesus stopped and ordered them to bring the man to him, and when he came up, asked him,	40 Jesus parou e mandou que lho trouxessem. Chegando ele perto, perguntou-lhe:
41 'What do you want me to do for you?' 'Sir,' he replied, 'let me see again.'	41 Que queres que te faça? Respondeu ele: Senhor, que eu veja.
42 Jesus said to him, 'Receive your sight. Your faith has saved you.'	42 Jesus lhe disse: Vê! Tua fé te salvou.
43 And instantly his sight returned and he fol owed him praising God, and al the people who saw it gavepraise to God.	43 E imediatamente ficou vendo e seguia a Jesus, glorificando a Deus. Presenciando isto, todo o povo deu glória a Deus.
