Luke 18

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Then he told them a parable about the need to pray continual y and never lose heart.	1 Después le enseñó con una parábola que era necesario orar siempre sin desanimarse:
2 'There was a judge in a certain town,' he said, 'who had neither fear of God nor respect for anyone.	2 «En una ciudad había un juez que no temía a Dios ni le importaban los hombres;
3 In the same town there was also a widow who kept on coming to him and saying, "I want justice fromyou against my enemy!"	3 y en la misma ciudad vivía una viuda que recurría a él, diciéndole: "Te ruego que me hagas justicia contra mi adversario".
4 For a long time he refused, but at last he said to himself, "Even though I have neither fear of God norrespect for any human person,	4 Durante mucho tiempo el juez se negó, pero después dijo: "Yo no temo a Dios ni me importan los hombres,
5 I must give this widow her just rights since she keeps pestering me, or she wil come and slap me in the face." '	5 pero como esta viuda me molesta, le haré justicia para que no venga continuamente a fastidiarme".»
6 And the Lord said, 'You notice what the unjust judge has to say?	6 Y el Señor dijo: «Oigan lo que dijo este juez injusto.
7 Now, will not God see justice done to his elect if they keep cal ing to him day and night even though hestill delays to help them?	7 Y Dios, ¿no hará justicia a sus elegidos, que claman a él día y noche, aunque los haga esperar?
8 I promise you, he wil see justice done to them, and done speedily. But when the Son of man comes,wil he find any faith on earth?'	8 Les aseguro que en un abrir y cerrar de ojos les hará justicia. Pero cuando venga el Hijo del hombre, ¿encontrará fe sobre la tierra?».
9 He spoke the following parable to some people who prided themselves on being upright and despisedeveryone else,	9 Y refiriéndose a algunos que se tenían por justos y despreciaban a los demás, dijo también esta parábola:
10 'Two men went up to the Temple to pray, one a Pharisee, the other a tax col ector.	10 «Dos hombres subieron al Templo para orar; uno era fariseo y el otro, publicano.
11 The Pharisee stood there and said this prayer to himself, "I thank you, God, that I am not grasping,unjust, adulterous like everyone else, and particularly that I am not like this tax col ector here.	11 El fariseo, de pie, oraba así: "Dios mío, te doy gracias porque no soy como los demás hombres, que son ladrones, injustos y adúlteros; ni tampoco como ese publicano.
12 I fast twice a week; I pay tithes on al I get."	12 Ayuno dos veces por semana y pago la décima parte de todas mis entradas".
13 The tax collector stood some distance away, not daring even to raise his eyes to heaven; but he beathis breast and said, "God, be merciful to me, a sinner."	13 En cambio el publicano, manteniéndose a distancia, no se animaba siquiera a levantar los ojos al cielo, sino que se golpeaba el pecho, diciendo: "¡Dios mío, ten piedad de mí, que soy un pecador!".
14 This man, I tell you, went home again justified; the other did not. For everyone who raises himself upwil be humbled, but anyone who humbles himself wil be raised up.'	14 Les aseguro que este último volvió a su casa justificado, pero no el primero. Porque todo el que se ensalza será humillado y el que se humilla será ensalzado».
15 People even brought babies to him, for him to touch them; but when the disciples saw this theyscolded them.	15 También le presentaban a los niños pequeños, para que los tocara; pero, al ver esto, los discípulos los reprendían.
16 But Jesus cal ed the children to him and said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not stopthem; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.	16 Entonces Jesús los hizo llamar y dijo: «Dejen que los niños se acerquen a mí y no se lo impidan, porque el Reino de Dios pertenece a los que son como ellos.
17 In truth I tell you, anyone who does not welcome the kingdom of God like a little child will never enterit.'	17 Les aseguro que el que no recibe el Reino de Dios como un niño, no entrará en él».
18 One of the rulers put this question to him, 'Good Master, what shal I do to inherit eternal life?'	18 Un hombre importante le preguntó: «Maestro bueno, ¿qué debo hacer para heredar la Vida eterna?».
19 Jesus said to him, 'Why do you cal me good? No one is good but God alone.	19 Jesús le dijo: ¿Por qué me llamas bueno? Sólo Dios es bueno.
20 You know the commandments: You shal not commit adultery; You shal not kil ; You shall not steal;You shal not give false witness; Honour your father and your mother.'	20 Tú conoces los mandamientos: No cometerás adulterio, no matarás, no robarás, no darás falso testimonio, honra a tu padre y a tu madre».
21 He replied, 'I have kept all these since my earliest days.'	21 El hombre le respondió: «Todo esto lo he cumplido desde mi juventud».
22 And when Jesus heard this he said, 'There is stil one thing you lack. Sell everything you own anddistribute the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.'	22 Al oírlo, Jesús le dijo: «Una cosa te falta todavía: vende todo lo que tienes y distribúyelo entre los pobres, y tendrás un tesoro en el cielo. Después ven y sígueme».
23 But when he heard this he was overcome with sadness, for he was very rich.	23 Al oír estas palabras, el hombre se entristeció, porque era muy rico.
24 Jesus looked at him and said, 'How hard it is for those who have riches to make their way into thekingdom of God!	24 Viéndolo así, Jesús dijo: «¡Qué difícil será para los ricos entrar en el Reino de Dios!
25 Yes, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for someone rich to enter thekingdom of God.'	25 Sí, es más fácil que un camello pase por el ojo de una aguja, que un rico entre en el Reino de Dios».
26 Those who were listening said, 'In that case, who can be saved?'	26 Los que escuchaban dijeron: «Pero entonces, ¿quién podrá salvarse?».
27 He replied, 'Things that are impossible by human resources, are possible for God.'	27 Jesús respondió: «Lo que es imposible para los hombres, es posible para Dios».
28 But Peter said, 'Look, we left al we had to follow you.'	28 Pedro le dijo: «Nosotros hemos dejado todo lo que teníamos y te hemos seguido».
29 He said to them, 'In truth I tel you, there is no one who has left house, wife, brothers, parents orchildren for the sake of the kingdom of God	29 Jesús respondió: «Les aseguro que el que haya dejado casa, mujer, hermanos, padres o hijos, por el Reino de Dios,
30 who will not receive many times as much in this present age and, in the world to come, eternal life.'	30 recibirá mucho más en ese mundo; y en el mundo futuro, recibirá la Vida eterna».
31 Then taking the Twelve aside he said to them, 'Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everythingthat is written by the prophets about the Son of man is to come true.	31 Después, Jesús llevó aparte a los Doce y les dijo: «Ahora subimos a Jerusalén, donde se cumplirá todo lo que anunciaron los profetas sobre el Hijo del hombre.
32 For he wil be handed over to the gentiles and wil be mocked, maltreated and spat on,	32 Será entregado a los paganos, se burlarán de él, lo insultarán, lo escupirán
33 and when they have scourged him they will put him to death; and on the third day he will rise again.'	33 y, después de azotarlo, lo matarán. Pero al tercer día resucitará».
34 But they could make nothing of this; what he said was quite obscure to them, they did not understandwhat he was tel ing them.	34 Ellos no comprendieron nada de todo esto; les resultaba oscuro y no captaban el sentido de estas palabras.
35 Now it happened that as he drew near to Jericho there was a blind man sitting at the side of the roadbegging.	35 Cuando se acercaba a Jericó, un ciego estaba sentado al borde del camino, pidiendo limosna.
36 When he heard the crowd going past he asked what it was all about,	36 Al oír que pasaba mucha gente, preguntó qué sucedía.
37 and they told him that Jesus the Nazarene was passing by.	37 Le respondieron que pasaba Jesús de Nazaret.
38 So he called out, 'Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me.'	38 El ciego se puso a gritar: «¡Jesús, Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!».
39 The people in front scolded him and told him to keep quiet, but he only shouted al the louder, 'Son ofDavid, have pity on me.'	39 Los que iban delante lo reprendían para que se callara, pero él gritaba más fuerte: «¡Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!».
40 Jesus stopped and ordered them to bring the man to him, and when he came up, asked him,	40 Jesús se detuvo y mandó que se lo trajeran. Cuando lo tuvo a su lado, le preguntó:
41 'What do you want me to do for you?' 'Sir,' he replied, 'let me see again.'	41 ¿Qué quieres que haga por ti?». «Señor, que yo vea otra vez».
42 Jesus said to him, 'Receive your sight. Your faith has saved you.'	42 Y Jesús le dijo: «Recupera la vista, tu fe te ha salvado».
43 And instantly his sight returned and he fol owed him praising God, and al the people who saw it gavepraise to God.	43 En el mismo momento, el ciego recuperó la vista y siguió a Jesús, glorificando a Dios. Al ver esto, todo el pueblo alababa a Dios.
