NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
He said to his disciples, 'Causes of fal ing are sure to come, but alas for the one through whom theyoccur!1 Et ad discipulos suos ait: “ Impossibile est ut non ve niant scandala;vae autem illi, per quem veniunt!
It would be better for such a person to be thrown into the sea with a mil stone round the neck than tobe the downfal of a single one of these little ones.2 Utilius est illi, si lapis molaris imponaturcirca collum eius et proiciatur in mare, quam ut scandalizet unum de pusillisistis.
Keep watch on yourselves! 'If your brother does something wrong, rebuke him and, if he is sorry,forgive him.3 Attendite vobis!
Si peccaverit frater tuus, increpa illum et, si paenitentiam egerit, dimitteilli;
And if he wrongs you seven times a day and seven times comes back to you and says, "I am sorry,"you must forgive him.'4 et si septies in die peccaverit in te et septies conversus fuerit ad tedicens: “Paenitet me”, dimittes illi ”.
The apostles said to the Lord, 'Increase our faith.'5 Et dixerunt apostoli Domino: “ Adauge nobis fidem! ”.
The Lord replied, 'If you had faith like a mustard seed you could say to this mulberry tree, "Be uprootedand planted in the sea," and it would obey you.6 Dixit autemDominus: “ Si haberetis fidem sicut granum sinapis, diceretis huic arborimoro: “Eradicare et transplantare in mare”, et oboediret vobis.
'Which of you, with a servant ploughing or minding sheep, would say to him when he returned from thefields, "Come and have your meal at once"?7 Quis autemvestrum habens servum arantem aut pascentem, qui regresso de agro dicet illi:“Statim transi, recumbe”,
Would he not be more likely to say, "Get my supper ready; fasten your belt and wait on me while I eatand drink. You yourself can eat and drink afterwards"?8 et non dicet ei: “Para, quod cenem, etpraecinge te et ministra mihi, donec manducem et bibam, et post haec tumanducabis et bibes”?
Must he be grateful to the servant for doing what he was told?9 Numquid gratiam habet servo illi, quia fecit, quaepraecepta sunt?
So with you: when you have done al you have been told to do, say, "We are useless servants: wehave done no more than our duty." '10 Sic et vos, cum feceritis omnia, quae praecepta sunt vobis,dicite: “Servi inutiles sumus; quod debuimus facere, fecimus” ”.
Now it happened that on the way to Jerusalem he was travel ing in the borderlands of Samaria andGalilee.11 Et factum est, dum iret in Ierusalem, et ipse transibat per mediam Samariamet Galilaeam.
As he entered one of the villages, ten men suffering from a virulent skin-disease came to meet him.They stood some way off12 Et cum ingrederetur quoddam castellum, occurrerunt ei decemviri leprosi, qui steterunt a longe
and cal ed to him, 'Jesus! Master! Take pity on us.'13 et levaverunt vocem dicentes: “ Iesupraeceptor, miserere nostri! ”.
When he saw them he said, 'Go and show yourselves to the priests.' Now as they were going awaythey were cleansed.14 Quos ut vidit, dixit: “ Ite, ostenditevos sacerdotibus ”. Et factum est, dum irent, mundati sunt.
Finding himself cured, one of them turned back praising God at the top of his voice15 Unus autem exillis, ut vidit quia sanatus est, regressus est cum magna voce magnificans Deum
and threw himself prostrate at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. The man was a Samaritan.16 et cecidit in faciem ante pedes eius gratias agens ei; et hic eratSamaritanus.
This led Jesus to say, 'Were not al ten made clean? The other nine, where are they?17 Respondens autem Iesus dixit: “ Nonne decem mundati sunt? Etnovem ubi sunt?
It seems that no one has come back to give praise to God, except this foreigner.'18 Non sunt inventi qui redirent, ut darent gloriam Deo, nisihic alienigena? ”.
And he said to the man, 'Stand up and go on your way. Your faith has saved you.'19 Et ait illi: “ Surge, vade; fides tua te salvum fecit”.
Asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God was to come, he gave them this answer, 'Thecoming of the kingdom of God does not admit of observation20 Interrogatus autem a pharisaeis: “ Quando venit regnum Dei? ”, responditeis et dixit: “ Non venit regnum Dei cum observatione,
and there will be no one to say, "Look, it is here! Look, it is there!" For look, the kingdom of God isamong you.'21 neque dicent: “Eccehic” aut: “Illic”; ecce enim regnum Dei intra vos est ”.
He said to the disciples, 'A time wil come when you wil long to see one of the days of the Son ofman and wil not see it.22 Et ait addiscipulos: “ Venient dies, quando desideretis videre unum diem Filii hominiset non videbitis.
They will say to you, "Look, it is there!" or, "Look, it is here!" Make no move; do not set off in pursuit;23 Et dicent vobis: “Ecce hic”, “Ecce illic”; noliteire neque sectemini.
for as the lightning flashing from one part of heaven lights up the other, so wil be the Son of manwhen his Day comes.24 Nam sicut fulgur coruscans de sub caelo in ea, quae subcaelo sunt, fulget, ita erit Filius hominis in die sua.
But first he is destined to suffer grievously and be rejected by this generation.25 Primum autem oportetillum multa pati et reprobari a generatione hac.
'As it was in Noah's day, so wil it also be in the days of the Son of man.26 Et sicut factum est indiebus Noe, ita erit et in diebus Filii hominis:
People were eating and drinking, marrying wives and husbands, right up to the day Noah went intothe ark, and the Flood came and destroyed them all.27 edebant, bibebant, uxoresducebant, dabantur ad nuptias, usque in diem, qua intravit Noe in arcam, etvenit diluvium et perdidit omnes.
It wil be the same as it was in Lot's day: people were eating and drinking, buying and selling, plantingand building,28 Similiter sicut factum est in diebus Lot:edebant, bibebant, emebant, vendebant, plantabant, aedificabant;
but the day Lot left Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and it destroyed them all.29 qua dieautem exiit Lot a Sodomis, pluit ignem et sulphur de caelo et omnes perdidit.
It wil be the same when the day comes for the Son of man to be revealed.30 Secundum haec erit, qua die Filius hominis revelabitur.
'When that Day comes, no one on the housetop, with his possessions in the house, must come downto col ect them, nor must anyone in the fields turn back.31 In illa die, quifuerit in tecto, et vasa eius in domo, ne descendat tollere illa; et, qui inagro, similiter non redeat retro.
Remember Lot's wife.32 Memores estote uxoris Lot.
Anyone who tries to preserve his life wil lose it; and anyone who loses it wil keep it safe.33 Quicumquequaesierit animam suam salvam facere, perdet illam; et, quicumque perdideritillam, vivificabit eam.
I tel you, on that night, when two are in one bed, one wil be taken, the other left;34 Dico vobis: Illa nocte erunt duo in lecto uno:
unus assumetur, et alter relinquetur;
when two women are grinding corn together, one wil be taken, the other left.'35 duae erunt molentes in unum: unaassumetur, et altera relinquetur ”.
(36) 37 Respondentes dicunt illi: “ Ubi,Domine? ”. Qui dixit eis: “ Ubicumque fuerit corpus, illuc congregabuntur etaquilae ”.

The disciples spoke up and asked, 'Where, Lord?' He said, 'Where the body is, there too will thevultures gather.'
