Mark 14

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 It was two days before the Passover and the feast of Unleavened Bread, and the chief priests and thescribes were looking for a way to arrest Jesus by some trick and have him put to death.	1 La Pâque et les Azymes allaient avoir lieu dans deux jours, et les grands prêtres et les scribescherchaient comment arrêter Jésus par ruse pour le tuer.
2 For they said, 'It must not be during the festivities, or there wil be a disturbance among the people.'	2 Car ils se disaient: "Pas en pleine fête, de peur qu'il n'y ait du tumulte parmi le peuple."
3 He was at Bethany in the house of Simon, a man who had suffered from a virulent skin-disease; hewas at table when a woman came in with an alabaster jar of very costly ointment, pure nard. She broke the jarand poured the ointment on his head.	3 Comme il se trouvait à Béthanie, chez Simon le lépreux, alors qu'il était à table, une femme vint,avec un flacon d'albâtre contenant un nard pur de grand prix. Brisant le flacon, elle le lui versa sur la tête.
4 Some who were there said to one another indignantly, 'Why this waste of ointment?	4 Or il y en eut qui s'indignèrent entre eux: "A quoi bon ce gaspillage de parfum?
5 Ointment like this could have been sold for over three hundred denari and the money given to thepoor'; and they were angry with her.	5 Ce parfum pouvait être vendu plus de 300 deniers et donné aux pauvres." Et ils la rudoyaient.
6 But Jesus said, 'Leave her alone. Why are you upsetting her? What she has done for me is a goodwork.	6 Mais Jésus dit: "Laissez-la; pourquoi la tracassez-vous? C'est une bonne oeuvre qu'elle a accompliesur moi.
7 You have the poor with you always, and you can be kind to them whenever you wish, but you wil notalways have me.	7 Les pauvres, en effet, vous les aurez toujours avec vous et, quand vous le voudrez, vous pourrez leurfaire du bien, mais moi, vous ne m'aurez pas toujours.
8 She has done what she could: she has anointed my body beforehand for its burial.	8 Elle a fait ce qui était en son pouvoir: d'avance elle a parfumé mon corps pour l'ensevelissement.
9 In truth I tel you, wherever throughout al the world the gospel is proclaimed, what she has done wilbe told as well, in remembrance of her.'	9 En vérité, je vous le dis, partout où sera proclamé l'Evangile, au monde entier, on redira aussi, à samémoire, ce qu'elle vient de faire."
10 Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, approached the chief priests with an offer to hand Jesus over tothem.	10 Judas Iscarioth, l'un des Douze, s'en alla auprès des grands prêtres pour le leur livrer.
11 They were delighted to hear it, and promised to give him money; and he began to look for a way ofbetraying him when the opportunity should occur.	11 A cette nouvelle ils se réjouirent et ils promirent de lui donner de l'argent. Et il cherchait uneoccasion favorable pour le livrer.
12 On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was sacrificed, his disciples said tohim, 'Where do you want us to go and make the preparations for you to eat the Passover?'	12 Le premier jour des Azymes, où l'on immolait la Pâque, ses disciples lui disent: "Où veux-tu quenous nous en allions préparer pour que tu manges la Pâque?"
13 So he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 'Go into the city and you will meet a man carrying apitcher of water. Fol ow him,	13 Il envoie alors deux de ses disciples, en leur disant: "Allez à la ville; vous rencontrerez un hommeportant une cruche d'eau. Suivez-le,
14 and say to the owner of the house which he enters, "The Master says: Where is the room for me toeat the Passover with my disciples?"	14 et là où il entrera, dites au propriétaire: Le Maître te fait dire: Où est ma salle, où je pourrai mangerla Pâque avec mes disciples?
15 He wil show you a large upper room furnished with couches, al prepared. Make the preparations forus there.'	15 Et il vous montrera, à l'étage, une grande pièce garnie de coussins, toute prête; faites-y pour nous lespréparatifs."
16 The disciples set out and went to the city and found everything as he had told them, and preparedthe Passover.	16 Les disciples partirent et vinrent à la ville, et ils trouvèrent comme il leur avait dit, et ils préparèrentla Pâque.
17 When evening came he arrived with the Twelve.	17 Le soir venu, il arrive avec les Douze.
18 And while they were at table eating, Jesus said, 'In truth I tell you, one of you is about to betray me,one of you eating with me.'	18 Et tandis qu'ils étaient à table et qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus dit: "En vérité, je vous le dis, l'un de vousme livrera, un qui mange avec moi."
19 They were distressed and said to him, one after another, 'Not me, surely?'	19 Ils devinrent tout tristes et se mirent à lui dire l'un après l'autre: "Serait-ce moi?"
20 He said to them, 'It is one of the Twelve, one who is dipping into the same dish with me.	20 Il leur dit: "C'est l'un des Douze, qui plonge avec moi la main dans le même plat.
21 Yes, the Son of man is going to his fate, as the scriptures say he will, but alas for that man by whomthe Son of man is betrayed! Better for that man if he had never been born.'	21 Oui, le Fils de l'homme s'en va selon qu'il est écrit de lui; mais malheur à cet homme-là par qui leFils de l'homme est livré! Mieux eût valu pour cet homme-là de ne pas naître!"
22 And as they were eating he took bread, and when he had said the blessing he broke it and gave it tothem. 'Take it,' he said, 'this is my body.'	22 Et tandis qu'ils mangeaient, il prit du pain, le bénit, le rompit et le leur donna en disant: "Prenez,ceci est mon corps."
23 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he handed it to them, and al drank from it,	23 Puis, prenant une coupe, il rendit grâces et la leur donna, et ils en burent tous.
24 and he said to them, 'This is my blood, the blood of the covenant, poured out for many.	24 Et il leur dit: "Ceci est mon sang, le sang de l'alliance, qui va être répandu pour une multitude.
25 In truth I tel you, I shal never drink wine any more until the day I drink the new wine in the kingdomof God.'	25 En vérité, je vous le dis, je ne boirai plus du produit de la vigne jusqu'au jour où je boirai le vinnouveau dans le Royaume de Dieu."
26 After the psalms had been sung they left for the Mount of Olives.	26 Après le chant desMarc Psaumes, ils partirent pour le mont des Oliviers.
27 And Jesus said to them, 'You wil all fal away, for the scripture says: I shal strike the shepherd andthe sheep wil be scattered;	27 Et Jésus leur dit: "Tous vous allez succomber, car il est écrit: Je frapperai le pasteur et les brebisseront dispersées.
28 however, after my resurrection I shall go before you into Galilee.'	28 Mais après ma résurrection, je vous précéderai en Galilée."
29 Peter said, 'Even if all fal away, I wil not.'	29 Pierre lui dit: "Même si tous succombent, du moins pas moi!"
30 And Jesus said to him, 'In truth I tel you, this day, this very night, before the cock crows twice, youwil have disowned me three times.'	30 Jésus lui dit: "En vérité, je te le dis: toi, aujourd'hui, cette nuit même, avant que le coq chante deuxfois, tu m'auras renié trois fois."
31 But he repeated stil more earnestly, 'If I have to die with you, I wil never disown you.' And they allsaid the same.	31 Mais lui reprenait de plus belle: "Dussé-je mourir avec toi, non, je ne te renierai pas." Et tousdisaient de même.
32 They came to a plot of land cal ed Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, 'Stay here while I pray.'	32 Ils parviennent à un domaine du nom de Gethsémani, et il dit à ses disciples: "Restez ici tandis queje prierai."
33 Then he took Peter and James and John with him.	33 Puis il prend avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean, et il commença à ressentir effroi et angoisse.
34 And he began to feel terror and anguish. And he said to them, 'My soul is sorrowful to the point ofdeath. Wait here, and stay awake.'	34 Et il leur dit: "Mon âme est triste à en mourir; demeurez ici et veillez."
35 And going on a little further he threw himself on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, thishour might pass him by.	35 Etant allé un peu plus loin, il tombait à terre, et il priait pour que, s'il était possible, cette heurepassât loin de lui.
36 'Abba, Father!' he said, 'For you everything is possible. Take this cup away from me. But let it be asyou, not I, would have it.'	36 Et il disait: "Abba (Père)! tout t'est possible: éloigne de moi cette coupe; pourtant, pas ce que jeveux, mais ce que tu veux!"
37 He came back and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, 'Simon, are you asleep? Had you notthe strength to stay awake one hour?	37 Il vient et les trouve en train de dormir; et il dit à Pierre: "Simon, tu dors? Tu n'as pas eu la force deveiller une heure?
38 Stay awake and pray not to be put to the test. The spirit is wil ing enough, but human nature is weak.'	38 Veillez et priez pour ne pas entrer en tentation: l'esprit est ardent, mais la chair est faible."
39 Again he went away and prayed, saying the same words.	39 Puis il s'en alla de nouveau et pria, en disant les mêmes paroles.
40 And once more he came back and found them sleeping, their eyes were so heavy; and they couldfind no answer for him.	40 De nouveau il vint et les trouva endormis, car leurs yeux étaient alourdis; et ils ne savaient que luirépondre.
41 He came back a third time and said to them, 'You can sleep on now and have your rest. It is al over.The hour has come. Now the Son of man is to be betrayed into the hands of sinners.	41 Une troisième fois il vient et leur dit: "Désormais vous pouvez dormir et vous reposer. C'en est fait.L'heure est venue: voici que le Fils de l'homme va être livré aux mains des pécheurs.
42 Get up! Let us go! My betrayer is not far away.'	42 Levez-vous! Allons! Voici que celui qui me livre est tout proche."
43 And at once, while he was stil speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, came up and with him a numberof men armed with swords and clubs, sent by the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.	43 Et aussitôt, comme il parlait encore, survient Judas, l'un des Douze, et avec lui une bande armée deglaives et de bâtons, venant de la part des grands prêtres, des scribes et des anciens.
44 Now the traitor had arranged a signal with them saying, 'The one I kiss, he is the man. Arrest him,and see he is well guarded when you lead him away.'	44 Or, le traître leur avait donné ce signe convenu: "Celui à qui je donnerai un baiser, c'est lui; arrêtez-le et emmenez-le sous bonne garde."
45 So when the traitor came, he went up to Jesus at once and said, 'Rabbi!' and kissed him.	45 Et aussitôt arrivé, il s'approcha de lui en disant: "Rabbi", et il lui donna un baiser.
46 The others seized him and arrested him.	46 Les autres mirent la main sur lui et l'arrêtèrent.
47 Then one of the bystanders drew his sword and struck out at the high priest's servant and cut off hisear.	47 Alors l'un des assistants, dégainant son glaive, frappa le serviteur du Grand Prêtre et lui enleval'oreille.
48 Then Jesus spoke. 'Am I a bandit,' he said, 'that you had to set out to capture me with swords andclubs?	48 S'adressant à eux, Jésus leur dit: "Suis-je un brigand, que vous vous soyez mis en campagne avecdes glaives et des bâtons pour me saisir!
49 I was among you teaching in the Temple day after day and you never laid a hand on me. But this isto fulfil the scriptures.'	49 Chaque jour j'étais auprès de vous dans le Temple, à enseigner, et vous ne m'avez pas arrêté. Maisc'est pour que les Ecritures s'accomplissent."
50 And they al deserted him and ran away.	50 Et, l'abandonnant, ils prirent tous la fuite.
51 A young man fol owed with nothing on but a linen cloth. They caught hold of him,	51 Un jeune homme le suivait, n'ayant pour tout vêtement qu'un drap, et on le saisit;
52 but he left the cloth in their hands and ran away naked.	52 mais lui, lâchant le drap, s'enfuit tout nu.
53 They led Jesus off to the high priest; and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribesassembled there.	53 Ils emmenèrent Jésus chez le Grand Prêtre, et tous les grands prêtres, les anciens et les scribes serassemblent.
54 Peter had followed him at a distance, right into the high priest's palace, and was sitting with theattendants warming himself at the fire.	54 Pierre l'avait suivi de loin jusqu'à l'intérieur du palais du Grand Prêtre et, assis avec les valets, ils sechauffait à la flambée.
55 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for evidence against Jesus in order to havehim executed. But they could not find any.	55 Or, les grands prêtres et tout le Sanhédrin cherchaient un témoignage contre Jésus pour le fairemourir et ils n'en trouvaient pas.
56 Several, indeed, brought false witness against him, but their evidence was conflicting.	56 Car plusieurs déposaient faussement contre lui et leurs témoignages ne concordaient pas.
57 Some stood up and submitted this false evidence against him,	57 Quelques-uns se levèrent pour porter contre lui ce faux témoignage:
58 'We heard him say, "I am going to destroy this Temple made by human hands, and in three daysbuild another, not made by human hands." '	58 "Nous l'avons entendu qui disait: Je détruirai ce Sanctuaire fait de main d'homme et en trois joursj'en rebâtirai un autre qui ne sera pas fait de main d'homme."
59 But even on this point their evidence was conflicting.	59 Et sur cela même leurs dépositions n'étaient pas d'accord.
60 The high priest then rose before the whole assembly and put this question to Jesus, 'Have you noanswer to that? What is this evidence these men are bringing against you?'	60 Se levant alors au milieu, le Grand Prêtre interrogea Jésus: "Tu ne réponds rien? Qu'est-ce que cesgens attestent contre toi?"
61 But he was silent and made no answer at all. The high priest put a second question to him saying,'Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?'	61 Mais lui se taisait et ne répondit rien. De nouveau le Grand Prêtre l'interrogeait, et il lui dit: "Tu esle Christ, le Fils du Béni" --
62 'I am,' said Jesus, 'and you wil see the Son of man seated at the right hand of the Power and comingwith the clouds of heaven.'	62 "Je le suis, dit Jésus, et vous verrez le Fils de l'homme siégeant à la droite de la Puissance et venantavec les nuées du ciel."
63 The high priest tore his robes and said, 'What need of witnesses have we now?	63 Alors le Grand Prêtre déchira ses tuniques et dit: "Qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoins?
64 You heard the blasphemy. What is your finding?' Their verdict was unanimous: he deserved to die.	64 Vous avez entendu le blasphème; que vous en semble?" Tous prononcèrent qu'il était passible demort.
65 Some of them started spitting at his face, hitting him and saying, 'Play the prophet!' And theattendants struck him too.	65 Et quelques-uns se mirent à lui cracher au visage, à le gifler et à lui dire: "Fais le prophète!" Et lesvalets le bourrèrent de coups.
66 While Peter was down below in the courtyard, one of the high priest's servant-girls came up.	66 Comme Pierre était en bas dans la cour, arrive une des servantes du Grand Prêtre.
67 She saw Peter warming himself there, looked closely at him and said, 'You too were with Jesus, theman from Nazareth.'	67 Voyant Pierre qui se chauffait, elle le dévisagea et dit: "Toi aussi, tu étais avec le Nazarénien Jésus."
68 But he denied it. 'I do not know, I do not understand what you are talking about,' he said. And hewent out into the forecourt, and a cock crowed.	68 Mais lui nia en disant: "Je ne sais pas, je ne comprends pas ce que tu dis." Puis il se retira dehorsvers le vestibule et un coq chanta.
69 The servant-girl saw him and again started tel ing the bystanders, 'This man is one of them.'	69 La servante, l'ayant vu, recommença à dire aux assistants: "Celui-là en est!"
70 But again he denied it. A little later the bystanders themselves said to Peter, 'You are certainly one ofthem! Why, you are a Galilean.'	70 Mais de nouveau il niait. Peu après, à leur tour, les assistants disaient à Pierre: "Vraiment tu en es;et d'ailleurs tu es Galiléen."
71 But he started cursing and swearing, 'I do not know the man you speak of.'	71 Mais il se mit à jurer avec force imprécations: "Je ne connais pas cet homme dont vous parlez."
72 And at once the cock crowed for the second time, and Peter recalled what Jesus had said to him,'Before the cock crows twice, you will have disowned me three times.' And he burst into tears.	72 Et aussitôt, pour la seconde fois, un coq chanta. Et Pierre se ressouvint de la parole que Jésus luiavait dite: "Avant que le coq chante deux fois, tu m'auras renié trois fois." Et il éclata en sanglots.
