Matthew 8

1 After he had come down from the mountain large crowds fol owed him.	1 Sceso che egli fu dal monte, lo seguirono molte turbe.
2 Suddenly a man with a virulent skin-disease came up and bowed low in front of him, saying, 'Lord, ifyou are wil ing, you can cleanse me.'	2 Ed ecco un lebbroso, accostatosi, gli si prostrò dinanzi, dicendo: Signore, se vuoi, tu puoi mondarmi.
3 Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him saying, 'I am willing. Be cleansed.' And his skin-diseasewas cleansed at once.	3 E, stesa la mano, Gesù lo toccò, dicendo: Lo voglio, sii mondato. E subito sparì la sua lebbra.
4 Then Jesus said to him, 'Mind you tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest and make theoffering prescribed by Moses, as evidence to them.'	4 E Gesù gli disse: Guardati dal dirlo ad alcuno; ma va', mostrati al sacerdote e fa' l'offerta prescritta da Mosè in testimonianza per essi.
5 When he went into Capernaum a centurion came up and pleaded with him.	5 Ed entrato che fu in Cafarnao, s'accostò a lui un centurione, e lo pregava,
6 'Sir,' he said, 'my servant is lying at home paralysed and in great pain.'	6 dicendo: Signore, il mio servo giace in casa paralizzato e soffre terribilmente.
7 Jesus said to him, 'I wil come myself and cure him.'	7 E Gesù a lui: Io verrò e lo guarirò.
8 The centurion replied, 'Sir, I am not worthy to have you under my roof; just give the word and myservant will be cured.	8 Ma il centurione, rispondendo, soggiunse: Signore, io non son degno che tu entri sotto il mio tetto, ma di' soltanto una parola e il mio servo sarà guarito.
9 For I am under authority myself and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man, "Go," and he goes;to another, "Come here," and he comes; to my servant, "Do this," and he does it.'	9 Perchè anch'io sono uomo sottoposto ed ho dei soldati sotto di me, e dico a questo: va', ed egli va; e a quello: vieni, ed egli viene; ed al mio servitore: fa' questo, e lo fa.
10 When Jesus heard this he was astonished and said to those following him, 'In truth I tell you, in no onein Israel have I found faith as great as this.	10 Gesù, udite queste parole, ne restò ammirato, e disse a coloro che lo seguivano: In verità, vi dico: non ho troyato tanta fede in Israele.
11 And I tel you that many will come from east and west and sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacobat the feast in the kingdom of Heaven;	11 Or vi dico che molti verranno dall'oriente e dall'occidente e sederanno con Abramo e Isacco e Giacobbe nel regno dei cieli;
12 but the children of the kingdom wil be thrown out into the darkness outside, where there wil beweeping and grinding of teeth.'	12 e i figli del regno saranno gettati nelle tenebre esteriori, ove sarà pianto e stridor di denti.
13 And to the centurion Jesus said, 'Go back, then; let this be done for you, as your faith demands.' Andthe servant was cured at that moment.	13 E Gesù disse al centurione: Va', e come hai creduto ti avvenga. E in quell'istante il servo fu guarito.
14 And going into Peter's house Jesus found Peter's mother-in-law in bed and feverish.	14 Ed essendo poi Gesù entrato in casa di Pietro, trovò la suocera di lui a letto con la febbre.
15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him.	15 Le toccò la mano, e la febbre sparì, tanto che essa, levatasi, si mise a servirli.
16 That evening they brought him many who were possessed by devils. He drove out the spirits with acommand and cured al who were sick.	16 Fattosi poi sera, gli presentarono molti indemoniati; ed egli, con una parola, cacciò gli spiriti, e guarì tutti i malati;
17 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: He himself bore our sicknesses away andcarried our diseases.	17 affinché s'adempisse ciò che fu detto per il profeta Isaia: Egli ha preso le nostre infermità ed ha portato i nostri mali.
18 When Jesus saw the crowd al about him he gave orders to leave for the other side.	18 Or Gesù, vedendosi intorno gran folla, dette ordine di passare all'altra riva.
19 One of the scribes then came up and said to him, 'Master, I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'	19 E accostatosi uno scriba, gli disse: Maestro, io ti seguirò, dovunque andrai.
20 Jesus said, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere tolay his head.'	20 E Gesù a lui: Le volpi hanno delle tane e gli uccelli dell'aria dei nidi; ma il Figlio dell'uomo non ha dove posare il capo.
21 Another man, one of the disciples, said to him, 'Lord, let me go and bury my father first.'	21 Un altro dei suoi discepoli gli disse: Signore, prima permettimi d'andare a seppellire mio padre.
22 But Jesus said, 'Fol ow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.'	22 Ma Gesù gli rispose: Seguimi, e lascia che i morti seppelliscano i loro morti.
23 Then he got into the boat fol owed by his disciples.	23 Ed essendo Gesù montato in una barca, lo seguirono i suoi discepoli.
24 Suddenly a storm broke over the lake, so violent that the boat was being swamped by the waves. Buthe was asleep.	24 Ed ecco sollevarsi in mare una burrasca tale che la barca era coperta dall'onde. Ma Gesù dormiva.
25 So they went to him and woke him saying, 'Save us, Lord, we are lost!'	25 E gli si accostarono i discepoli, e lo svogliarono gridando: Signore, salvaci: siamo perduti!
26 And he said to them, 'Why are you so frightened, you who have so little faith?' And then he stood upand rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.	26 E Gesù disse loro: Per­chè temete, gente di poca fede? E, alzatosi, comandò ai venti e al mare e si fece gran bonaccia.
27 They were astounded and said, 'Whatever kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obeyhim?'	27 E quella gente ne restò ammi­rata, e diceva: Chi è mai costui,che gli ubbidiscono i venti e il mare?
28 When he reached the territory of the Gadarenes on the other side, two demoniacs came towards himout of the tombs -- they were so dangerously violent that nobody could use that path.	28 Sbarcato che fu all'altra riva, nel paese dei Geraseni, gli vennero incontro due indemoniati che uscivano dai sepolcreti, tanto furiosi che nessuno poteva passar per quella via.
29 Suddenly they shouted, 'What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture usbefore the time?'	29 Ed eccoli a gridare: Che abbiamo da fare con te, o Gesù, Figlio di Dio? Sei venuto qua prima del tempo a tormentarci?
30 Now some distance away there was a large herd of pigs feeding,	30 Or non lungi da loro v'era a pascolare un gran branco di porci.
31 and the devils pleaded with Jesus, 'If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.'	31 E i demoni lo pregavano dicendo: Se tu ci cacci di qui, mandaci in quel branco di porci.
32 And he said to them, 'Go then,' and they came out and made for the pigs; and at that the whole herdcharged down the cliff into the lake and perished in the water.	32 E Gesù a loro: Andate. E quelli, usciti, entrarono nei porci: ed ecco, a precipizio tutto il branco gettarsi in mare e perire nell'acqua.
33 The herdsmen ran off and made for the city, where they told the whole story, including what hadhappened to the demoniacs.	33 I pastori fuggirono, ed entrati in città, raccontarono tutto, ed anche il fatto degli indemoniati.
34 Suddenly the whole city set out to meet Jesus; and as soon as they saw him they implored him toleave their neighbourhood.	34 Ed ecco tutta la città uscir incontro a Gesù, e vistolo si raccomandarono che uscisse dal loro territorio.
