NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
After he had come down from the mountain large crowds fol owed him.1 Cum autem descendisset de monte, secutae sunt eum turbae multae.
Suddenly a man with a virulent skin-disease came up and bowed low in front of him, saying, 'Lord, ifyou are wil ing, you can cleanse me.'2 Et ecce leprosus veniens adorabat eum dicens: “ Domine, si vis, potes memundare ”.
Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him saying, 'I am willing. Be cleansed.' And his skin-diseasewas cleansed at once.3 Et extendens manum, tetigit eum dicens: “ Volo, mundare! ”;et confestim mundata est lepra eius.
Then Jesus said to him, 'Mind you tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest and make theoffering prescribed by Moses, as evidence to them.'4 Et ait illi Iesus: “ Vide, neminidixeris; sed vade, ostende te sacerdoti et offer munus, quod praecepit Moyses,in testimonium illis ”.
When he went into Capernaum a centurion came up and pleaded with him.5 Cum autem introisset Capharnaum, accessit ad eum centurio rogans eum
'Sir,' he said, 'my servant is lying at home paralysed and in great pain.'6 etdicens: “ Domine, puer meus iacet in domo paralyticus et male torquetur ”.
Jesus said to him, 'I wil come myself and cure him.'7 Et ait illi: “ Ego veniam et curabo eum ”.
The centurion replied, 'Sir, I am not worthy to have you under my roof; just give the word and myservant will be cured.8 Et respondens centurio ait: “Domine, non sum dignus, ut intres sub tectum meum, sed tantum dic verbo, etsanabitur puer meus.
For I am under authority myself and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man, "Go," and he goes;to another, "Come here," and he comes; to my servant, "Do this," and he does it.'9 Nam et ego homo sum sub potestate, habens sub me milites,et dico huic: “Vade”, et vadit; et alii: “Veni”, et venit; et servo meo:“Fac hoc”, et facit”.
When Jesus heard this he was astonished and said to those following him, 'In truth I tell you, in no onein Israel have I found faith as great as this.10 Audiens autem Iesus, miratus est et sequentibus se dixit: “Amen dico vobis:Apud nullum inveni tantam fidem in Israel!
And I tel you that many will come from east and west and sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacobat the feast in the kingdom of Heaven;11 Dico autem vobis quod multi aboriente et occidente venient et recumbent cum Abraham et Isaac et Iacob in regnocaelorum;
but the children of the kingdom wil be thrown out into the darkness outside, where there wil beweeping and grinding of teeth.'12 filii autem regni eicientur in tenebras exteriores: ibi erit fletuset stridor dentium ”.
And to the centurion Jesus said, 'Go back, then; let this be done for you, as your faith demands.' Andthe servant was cured at that moment.13 Et dixit Iesus centurioni: “ Vade; sicutcredidisti, fiat tibi ”. Et sanatus est puer in hora illa.
And going into Peter's house Jesus found Peter's mother-in-law in bed and feverish.14 Et cum venisset Iesus in domum Petri, vidit socrum eius iacentem etfebricitantem;
He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him.15 et tetigit manum eius, et dimisit eam febris; et surrexit etministrabat ei.
That evening they brought him many who were possessed by devils. He drove out the spirits with acommand and cured al who were sick.16 Vespere autem facto, obtulerunt ei multos daemonia habentes; et eiciebatspiritus verbo et omnes male habentes curavit,
This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: He himself bore our sicknesses away andcarried our diseases.17 ut adimpleretur, quod dictumest per Isaiam prophetam dicentem:
“ Ipse infirmitates nostras accepit
et aegrotationes portavit ”.
When Jesus saw the crowd al about him he gave orders to leave for the other side.18 Videns autem Iesus turbas multas circum se, iussit ire trans fretum.
One of the scribes then came up and said to him, 'Master, I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'19 Etaccedens unus scriba ait illi: “ Magister, sequar te, quocumque ieris ”.
Jesus said, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere tolay his head.'20 Et dicit ei Iesus: “ Vulpes foveas habent, et volucres caeli tabernacula,Filius autem hominis non habet, ubi caput reclinet ”.
Another man, one of the disciples, said to him, 'Lord, let me go and bury my father first.'21 Alius autem de discipulis eius ait illi: “Domine, permitte me primum ire etsepelire patrem meum ”.
But Jesus said, 'Fol ow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.'22 Iesus autem ait illi: “ Sequere me et dimittemortuos sepelire mortuos suos ”.
Then he got into the boat fol owed by his disciples.23 Et ascendente eo in naviculam, secuti sunt eum discipuli eius.
Suddenly a storm broke over the lake, so violent that the boat was being swamped by the waves. Buthe was asleep.24 Et eccemotus magnus factus est in mari, ita ut navicula operiretur fluctibus; ipse verodormiebat.
So they went to him and woke him saying, 'Save us, Lord, we are lost!'25 Et accesserunt et suscitaverunt eum dicentes: “ Domine, salvanos, perimus! ”.
And he said to them, 'Why are you so frightened, you who have so little faith?' And then he stood upand rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.26 Et dicit eis: “ Quid timidi estis, modicae fidei? ”.Tunc surgens increpavit ventis et mari, et facta est tranquillitas magna.
They were astounded and said, 'Whatever kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obeyhim?'27 Porro homines mirati sunt dicentes: “ Qualis est hic, quia et venti et mareoboediunt ei? ”.
When he reached the territory of the Gadarenes on the other side, two demoniacs came towards himout of the tombs -- they were so dangerously violent that nobody could use that path.28 Et cum venisset trans fretum in regionem Gadarenorum,occurrerunt ei duo habentes daemonia, de monumentis exeuntes, saevi nimis, itaut nemo posset transire per viam illam.
Suddenly they shouted, 'What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture usbefore the time?'29 Et ecce clamaverunt dicentes: “Quid nobis et tibi, Fili Dei? Venisti huc ante tempus torquere nos? ”.
Now some distance away there was a large herd of pigs feeding,30 Eratautem longe ab illis grex porcorum multorum pascens.
and the devils pleaded with Jesus, 'If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.'31 Daemones autem rogabanteum dicentes: “ Si eicis nos, mitte nos in gregem porcorum ”.
And he said to them, 'Go then,' and they came out and made for the pigs; and at that the whole herdcharged down the cliff into the lake and perished in the water.32 Et aitillis: “ Ite ”. Et illi exeuntes abierunt in porcos; et ecce impetu abiittotus grex per praeceps in mare, et mortui sunt in aquis.
The herdsmen ran off and made for the city, where they told the whole story, including what hadhappened to the demoniacs.33 Pastores autemfugerunt et venientes in civitatem nuntiaverunt omnia et de his, qui daemoniahabuerant.
Suddenly the whole city set out to meet Jesus; and as soon as they saw him they implored him toleave their neighbourhood.34 Et ecce tota civitas exiit obviam Iesu, et viso eo rogabant, uttransiret a finibus eorum.
