Matthew 8

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 After he had come down from the mountain large crowds fol owed him.	1 Scese dal monte e molta folla lo seguì.
2 Suddenly a man with a virulent skin-disease came up and bowed low in front of him, saying, 'Lord, ifyou are wil ing, you can cleanse me.'	2 Ed ecco, si avvicinò un lebbroso, si prostrò davanti a lui e disse: «Signore, se vuoi, puoi purificarmi».
3 Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him saying, 'I am willing. Be cleansed.' And his skin-diseasewas cleansed at once.	3 Tese la mano e lo toccò dicendo: «Lo voglio: sii purificato!». E subito la sua lebbra fu guarita.
4 Then Jesus said to him, 'Mind you tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest and make theoffering prescribed by Moses, as evidence to them.'	4 Poi Gesù gli disse: «Guàrdati bene dal dirlo a qualcuno; va’ invece a mostrarti al sacerdote e presenta l’offerta prescritta da Mosè come testimonianza per loro».
5 When he went into Capernaum a centurion came up and pleaded with him.	5 Entrato in Cafàrnao, gli venne incontro un centurione che lo scongiurava e diceva:
6 'Sir,' he said, 'my servant is lying at home paralysed and in great pain.'	6 «Signore, il mio servo è in casa, a letto, paralizzato e soffre terribilmente».
7 Jesus said to him, 'I wil come myself and cure him.'	7 Gli disse: «Verrò e lo guarirò».
8 The centurion replied, 'Sir, I am not worthy to have you under my roof; just give the word and myservant will be cured.	8 Ma il centurione rispose: «Signore, io non sono degno che tu entri sotto il mio tetto, ma di’ soltanto una parola e il mio servo sarà guarito.
9 For I am under authority myself and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man, "Go," and he goes;to another, "Come here," and he comes; to my servant, "Do this," and he does it.'	9 Pur essendo anch’io un subalterno, ho dei soldati sotto di me e dico a uno: “Va’!”, ed egli va; e a un altro: “Vieni!”, ed egli viene; e al mio servo: “Fa’ questo!”, ed egli lo fa».
10 When Jesus heard this he was astonished and said to those following him, 'In truth I tell you, in no onein Israel have I found faith as great as this.	10 Ascoltandolo, Gesù si meravigliò e disse a quelli che lo seguivano: «In verità io vi dico, in Israele non ho trovato nessuno con una fede così grande!
11 And I tel you that many will come from east and west and sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacobat the feast in the kingdom of Heaven;	11 Ora io vi dico che molti verranno dall’oriente e dall’occidente e siederanno a mensa con Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe nel regno dei cieli,
12 but the children of the kingdom wil be thrown out into the darkness outside, where there wil beweeping and grinding of teeth.'	12 mentre i figli del regno saranno cacciati fuori, nelle tenebre, dove sarà pianto e stridore di denti».
13 And to the centurion Jesus said, 'Go back, then; let this be done for you, as your faith demands.' Andthe servant was cured at that moment.	13 E Gesù disse al centurione: «Va’, avvenga per te come hai creduto». In quell’istante il suo servo fu guarito.
14 And going into Peter's house Jesus found Peter's mother-in-law in bed and feverish.	14 Entrato nella casa di Pietro, Gesù vide la suocera di lui che era a letto con la febbre.
15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him.	15 Le toccò la mano e la febbre la lasciò; poi ella si alzò e lo serviva.
16 That evening they brought him many who were possessed by devils. He drove out the spirits with acommand and cured al who were sick.	16 Venuta la sera, gli portarono molti indemoniati ed egli scacciò gli spiriti con la parola e guarì tutti i malati,
17 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: He himself bore our sicknesses away andcarried our diseases.	17 perché si compisse ciò che era stato detto per mezzo del profeta Isaia: Egli ha preso le nostre infermità e si è caricato delle malattie.
18 When Jesus saw the crowd al about him he gave orders to leave for the other side.	18 Vedendo la folla attorno a sé, Gesù ordinò di passare all’altra riva.
19 One of the scribes then came up and said to him, 'Master, I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'	19 Allora uno scriba si avvicinò e gli disse: «Maestro, ti seguirò dovunque tu vada».
20 Jesus said, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere tolay his head.'	20 Gli rispose Gesù: «Le volpi hanno le loro tane e gli uccelli del cielo i loro nidi, ma il Figlio dell’uomo non ha dove posare il capo».
21 Another man, one of the disciples, said to him, 'Lord, let me go and bury my father first.'	21 E un altro dei suoi discepoli gli disse: «Signore, permettimi di andare prima a seppellire mio padre».
22 But Jesus said, 'Fol ow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.'	22 Ma Gesù gli rispose: «Seguimi, e lascia che i morti seppelliscano i loro morti».
23 Then he got into the boat fol owed by his disciples.	23 Salito sulla barca, i suoi discepoli lo seguirono.
24 Suddenly a storm broke over the lake, so violent that the boat was being swamped by the waves. Buthe was asleep.	24 Ed ecco, avvenne nel mare un grande sconvolgimento, tanto che la barca era coperta dalle onde; ma egli dormiva.
25 So they went to him and woke him saying, 'Save us, Lord, we are lost!'	25 Allora si accostarono a lui e lo svegliarono, dicendo: «Salvaci, Signore, siamo perduti!».
26 And he said to them, 'Why are you so frightened, you who have so little faith?' And then he stood upand rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.	26 Ed egli disse loro: «Perché avete paura, gente di poca fede?». Poi si alzò, minacciò i venti e il mare e ci fu grande bonaccia.
27 They were astounded and said, 'Whatever kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obeyhim?'	27 Tutti, pieni di stupore, dicevano: «Chi è mai costui, che perfino i venti e il mare gli obbediscono?».
28 When he reached the territory of the Gadarenes on the other side, two demoniacs came towards himout of the tombs -- they were so dangerously violent that nobody could use that path.	28 Giunto all’altra riva, nel paese dei Gadarèni, due indemoniati, uscendo dai sepolcri, gli andarono incontro; erano tanto furiosi che nessuno poteva passare per quella strada.
29 Suddenly they shouted, 'What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture usbefore the time?'	29 Ed ecco, si misero a gridare: «Che vuoi da noi, Figlio di Dio? Sei venuto qui a tormentarci prima del tempo?».
30 Now some distance away there was a large herd of pigs feeding,	30 A qualche distanza da loro c’era una numerosa mandria di porci al pascolo;
31 and the devils pleaded with Jesus, 'If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.'	31 e i demòni lo scongiuravano dicendo: «Se ci scacci, mandaci nella mandria dei porci».
32 And he said to them, 'Go then,' and they came out and made for the pigs; and at that the whole herdcharged down the cliff into the lake and perished in the water.	32 Egli disse loro: «Andate!». Ed essi uscirono, ed entrarono nei porci: ed ecco, tutta la mandria si precipitò giù dalla rupe nel mare e morirono nelle acque.
33 The herdsmen ran off and made for the city, where they told the whole story, including what hadhappened to the demoniacs.	33 I mandriani allora fuggirono e, entrati in città, raccontarono ogni cosa e anche il fatto degli indemoniati.
34 Suddenly the whole city set out to meet Jesus; and as soon as they saw him they implored him toleave their neighbourhood.	34 Tutta la città allora uscì incontro a Gesù: quando lo videro, lo pregarono di allontanarsi dal loro territorio.
