1 After he had come down from the mountain large crowds fol owed him.	1 Jésus descendit de la montagne et une foule nombreuse se mit à le suivre.
2 Suddenly a man with a virulent skin-disease came up and bowed low in front of him, saying, 'Lord, ifyou are wil ing, you can cleanse me.'	2 Alors s’approche un lépreux, il se prosterne devant lui en disant: "Seigneur, si tu veux, tu peux me purifier.”
3 Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him saying, 'I am willing. Be cleansed.' And his skin-diseasewas cleansed at once.	3 Jésus étend la main et le touche en disant: "Eh bien, je le veux, sois purifié!” Et aussitôt il est pur: plus de lèpre.
4 Then Jesus said to him, 'Mind you tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest and make theoffering prescribed by Moses, as evidence to them.'	4 Alors Jésus lui dit: "Écoute bien, n’en parle à personne, mais va te montrer aux prêtres et présente l’offrande comme Moïse l’a ordonné: tu feras ainsi ta déclaration.”
5 When he went into Capernaum a centurion came up and pleaded with him.	5 Comme Jésus partait pour Capharnaüm, un officier s’approcha et lui fit cette demande:
6 'Sir,' he said, 'my servant is lying at home paralysed and in great pain.'	6 "Seigneur, mon serviteur est au lit à la maison. Il est paralysé et il souffre terriblement.”
7 Jesus said to him, 'I wil come myself and cure him.'	7 Jésus lui dit: "J’y vais et je le guérirai.”
8 The centurion replied, 'Sir, I am not worthy to have you under my roof; just give the word and myservant will be cured.	8 L’officier répondit: "Seigneur, qui suis-je pour que tu viennes sous mon toit? Dis un mot seulement et mon serviteur sera guéri.
9 For I am under authority myself and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man, "Go," and he goes;to another, "Come here," and he comes; to my servant, "Do this," and he does it.'	9 Moi-même j’obéis, mais j’ai aussi des soldats sous mes ordres. Quand je dis à l’un: ‘Pars!’ il part. Je dis à un autre: ‘Viens!’ et il vient. Je dis à mon serviteur: ‘Fais cela!’ et il le fait.”
10 When Jesus heard this he was astonished and said to those following him, 'In truth I tell you, in no onein Israel have I found faith as great as this.	10 Jésus l’écoutait, et il en était dans l’admiration. Alors il déclara à ceux qui l’accompagnaient: "En vérité, je vous le dis, je n’ai rencontré une telle foi chez personne en Israël.
11 And I tel you that many will come from east and west and sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacobat the feast in the kingdom of Heaven;	11 Je vous l’affirme: beaucoup viendront de l’orient et de l’occident et seront au festin avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob dans le Royaume des Cieux.
12 but the children of the kingdom wil be thrown out into the darkness outside, where there wil beweeping and grinding of teeth.'	12 Et par contre, ceux pour qui était le Royaume seront jetés dehors dans les ténèbres. Là il y aura pleurs et grincements de dents.”
13 And to the centurion Jesus said, 'Go back, then; let this be done for you, as your faith demands.' Andthe servant was cured at that moment.	13 Alors Jésus dit à l’officier: "Va, et que tout se fasse pour toi comme tu as cru.” À l’instant même le serviteur fut guéri.
14 And going into Peter's house Jesus found Peter's mother-in-law in bed and feverish.	14 Jésus arriva à la maison de Pierre; il y trouva la belle-mère de ce dernier au lit avec de la fièvre.
15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him.	15 Il lui prit alors la main et la fièvre tomba. Elle se leva et se mit à leur faire le service.
16 That evening they brought him many who were possessed by devils. He drove out the spirits with acommand and cured al who were sick.	16 Le soir venu, on commença à lui amener des personnes qui souffraient de divers démons. D’un mot il chassa les esprits, et il guérit tous ceux qui allaient mal.
17 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: He himself bore our sicknesses away andcarried our diseases.	17 Ainsi s’accomplissait la parole dite autrefois par le prophète Isaïe: Il a pris nos faiblesses, lui-même a porté nos maladies.
18 When Jesus saw the crowd al about him he gave orders to leave for the other side.	18 Comme Jésus se voyait pressé par la foule, il donna l’ordre de passer sur l’autre rive.
19 One of the scribes then came up and said to him, 'Master, I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'	19 À ce moment-là, un expert de la Loi s’approcha pour lui dire: "Maître, je suis prêt à te suivre partout où tu iras!”
20 Jesus said, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere tolay his head.'	20 Jésus lui répondit: "Les renards ont un terrier, les oiseaux du ciel ont un nid; mais le Fils de l’Homme n’a pas où reposer sa tête.”
21 Another man, one of the disciples, said to him, 'Lord, let me go and bury my father first.'	21 Un autre disciple de Jésus lui dit: "Seigneur, permets-moi d’abord de retourner, que je puisse enterrer mon père.”
22 But Jesus said, 'Fol ow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.'	22 Jésus lui dit: "Suis-moi, et laisse les morts enterrer leurs morts.”
23 Then he got into the boat fol owed by his disciples.	23 Jésus monta dans la barque et ses disciples le suivirent.
24 Suddenly a storm broke over the lake, so violent that the boat was being swamped by the waves. Buthe was asleep.	24 Mais la mer devint de plus en plus agitée, si bien que des vagues passaient par-dessus la barque; et lui dormait.
25 So they went to him and woke him saying, 'Save us, Lord, we are lost!'	25 Ils s’approchent donc et le réveillent en lui disant: "Seigneur, sauve-nous, nous sommes perdus!”
26 And he said to them, 'Why are you so frightened, you who have so little faith?' And then he stood upand rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.	26 Mais lui leur dit: "Comme vous êtes peureux, gens de peu de foi!” Jésus se lève alors, il rappelle à l’ordre les vents et la mer, et c’est le grand calme.
27 They were astounded and said, 'Whatever kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obeyhim?'	27 Les gens en étaient tout étonnés; ils disaient: "Mais que peut-il bien être? Même les vents et la mer lui obéissent!”
28 When he reached the territory of the Gadarenes on the other side, two demoniacs came towards himout of the tombs -- they were so dangerously violent that nobody could use that path.	28 Quand Jésus atteignit le rivage, sur le territoire de Gadara, deux possédés du démon sortirent du milieu des tombes et vinrent à sa rencontre. C’étaient des hommes si sauvages que personne ne pouvait passer sur ce chemin.
29 Suddenly they shouted, 'What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture usbefore the time?'	29 Et voici qu’ils se mettent à crier: "Qu’est-ce que tu nous veux, fils de Dieu? Es-tu venu pour nous torturer avant l’heure?”
30 Now some distance away there was a large herd of pigs feeding,	30 À une certaine distance il y avait un troupeau de cochons qui cherchaient leur nourriture.
31 and the devils pleaded with Jesus, 'If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.'	31 Les démons lui font alors cette demande: "Si tu veux nous mettre dehors, envoie-nous dans ce troupeau de cochons.”
32 And he said to them, 'Go then,' and they came out and made for the pigs; and at that the whole herdcharged down the cliff into the lake and perished in the water.	32 Jésus leur dit: "Allez.” Ils sortent donc et s’en vont vers les cochons, et voilà tout le troupeau qui dévale la pente jusqu’à la mer où les bêtes se noient.
33 The herdsmen ran off and made for the city, where they told the whole story, including what hadhappened to the demoniacs.	33 Les gardiens de cochons s’enfuient vers la ville et, quand ils arrivent, ils racontent l’affaire des possédés.
34 Suddenly the whole city set out to meet Jesus; and as soon as they saw him they implored him toleave their neighbourhood.	34 Tous les gens de la ville sortent alors de chez eux à la rencontre de Jésus et, aussitôt qu’ils le voient, ils lui demandent de quitter leur territoire.
