Matthew 8

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 After he had come down from the mountain large crowds fol owed him.	1 Quando egli discese dal monte, molta folla si mise a seguirlo.
2 Suddenly a man with a virulent skin-disease came up and bowed low in front of him, saying, 'Lord, ifyou are wil ing, you can cleanse me.'	2 Ed ecco che un lebbroso, avvicinatosi, si prostrò davanti a lui dicendo: "Signore, basta che tu lo voglia, puoi mondarmi".
3 Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him saying, 'I am willing. Be cleansed.' And his skin-diseasewas cleansed at once.	3 Gesù stese la mano e lo toccò dicendo: "Lo voglio, sii mondato". All'istante la lebbra scomparve.
4 Then Jesus said to him, 'Mind you tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest and make theoffering prescribed by Moses, as evidence to them.'	4 Gli disse allora Gesù: "Guàrdati dal dirlo a qualcuno. Ma va', mostrati al sacerdote e porta l'offerta prescritta da Mosè a loro testimonianza".
5 When he went into Capernaum a centurion came up and pleaded with him.	5 Entrato poi a Cafarnao, gli si avvicinò un centurione che lo supplicava
6 'Sir,' he said, 'my servant is lying at home paralysed and in great pain.'	6 dicendo: "Signore, il mio servo giace in casa paralizzato e soffre terribilmente".
7 Jesus said to him, 'I wil come myself and cure him.'	7 E Gesù a lui: "Io verrò e lo guarirò".
8 The centurion replied, 'Sir, I am not worthy to have you under my roof; just give the word and myservant will be cured.	8 Il centurione replicò: "Signore, io non sono degno che tu venga sotto il mio tetto; ma soltanto di' una parola e il mio servo sarà guarito.
9 For I am under authority myself and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man, "Go," and he goes;to another, "Come here," and he comes; to my servant, "Do this," and he does it.'	9 Infatti anch'io, benché subalterno, ho sotto di me dei soldati; se dico a uno: "Va'!", questo va; a un altro: "Vieni", egli viene; o al mio servo: "Fa' questo", egli lo fa".
10 When Jesus heard this he was astonished and said to those following him, 'In truth I tell you, in no onein Israel have I found faith as great as this.	10 All'udire ciò Gesù ne fu ammirato e disse a quelli che lo seguivano: "In verità vi dico: presso nessuno in Israele ho trovato tanta fede.
11 And I tel you that many will come from east and west and sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacobat the feast in the kingdom of Heaven;	11 Vi dico inoltre che molti verranno dall'oriente e dall'occidente e sederanno a mensa con Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe nel regno dei cieli,
12 but the children of the kingdom wil be thrown out into the darkness outside, where there wil beweeping and grinding of teeth.'	12 mentre i figli del regno saranno cacciati fuori nelle tenebre esteriori; là sarà pianto e stridore di denti".
13 And to the centurion Jesus said, 'Go back, then; let this be done for you, as your faith demands.' Andthe servant was cured at that moment.	13 Gesù disse poi al centurione: "Va', sia fatto come tu hai creduto!". E in quell'istante il servo guarì.
14 And going into Peter's house Jesus found Peter's mother-in-law in bed and feverish.	14 Una volta, entrato Gesù nella casa di Pietro, vide che la suocera di lui era a letto con la febbre.
15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him.	15 Allora la prese per mano e la febbre la lasciò; ed essa, levatasi, si mise a servirlo.
16 That evening they brought him many who were possessed by devils. He drove out the spirits with acommand and cured al who were sick.	16 Verso sera gli presentarono molti ossessi ed egli scacciò gli spiriti con la sola parola e guarì tutti gli infermi.
17 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: He himself bore our sicknesses away andcarried our diseases.	17 Così si adempì quanto fu annunziato dal profeta Isaia che dice: Egli ha preso le nostre infermità e si è caricato delle nostre malattie.
18 When Jesus saw the crowd al about him he gave orders to leave for the other side.	18 Gesù, visto che la folla si accalcava intorno a lui, chiese di passare all'altra riva.
19 One of the scribes then came up and said to him, 'Master, I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'	19 Allora uno scriba gli si accostò dicendo: "Maestro, vorrei seguirti dovunque tu vada".
20 Jesus said, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere tolay his head.'	20 Gli dice Gesù: "Le volpi hanno tane e gli uccelli del cielo nidi, ma il Figlio dell'uomo non ha dove reclinare il capo".
21 Another man, one of the disciples, said to him, 'Lord, let me go and bury my father first.'	21 Un altro dei discepoli gli disse: "Permettimi, Signore, di andare prima a seppellire mio padre".
22 But Jesus said, 'Fol ow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.'	22 Gesù gli dice: "Séguimi; e lascia che i morti seppelliscano i loro morti".
23 Then he got into the boat fol owed by his disciples.	23 Salito sulla barca, lo seguirono i suoi discepoli.
24 Suddenly a storm broke over the lake, so violent that the boat was being swamped by the waves. Buthe was asleep.	24 Ed ecco che si levò sul mare una gran tempesta, tanto che la barca stava per essere sommersa dalle onde; ed egli dormiva.
25 So they went to him and woke him saying, 'Save us, Lord, we are lost!'	25 Si avvicinarono a lui e lo svegliarono dicendo: "Signore, sàlvaci: siamo in pericolo!".
26 And he said to them, 'Why are you so frightened, you who have so little faith?' And then he stood upand rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.	26 Disse loro Gesù: "Perché temete, uomini di poca fede?". E, alzatosi, sgridò i venti e il mare e si fece una grande bonaccia.
27 They were astounded and said, 'Whatever kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obeyhim?'	27 Gli uomini rimasero stupiti e dicevano: "Chi è costui al quale i venti e il mare ubbidiscono?".
28 When he reached the territory of the Gadarenes on the other side, two demoniacs came towards himout of the tombs -- they were so dangerously violent that nobody could use that path.	28 Giunto Gesù al di là della riva, nella regione dei Gadareni, due ossessi, uscendo dalle tombe, gli andarono incontro; erano uomini pericolosi, tanto che nessuno osava passare per quella strada.
29 Suddenly they shouted, 'What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture usbefore the time?'	29 Quelli si misero a gridare: "Che c'è fra noi e te, Figlio di Dio? Sei venuto qui per tormentarci prima del tempo?".
30 Now some distance away there was a large herd of pigs feeding,	30 Non lontano da loro c'era una numerosa mandria di porci che pascolava.
31 and the devils pleaded with Jesus, 'If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.'	31 I demòni lo supplicavano dicendo: "Se ci scacci, mandaci nella mandria di porci".
32 And he said to them, 'Go then,' and they came out and made for the pigs; and at that the whole herdcharged down the cliff into the lake and perished in the water.	32 Egli disse loro: "Andate". Essi, usciti, entrarono nei porci. Allora tutta la mandria dall'alto del dirupo precipitò nel mare e perì nei flutti.
33 The herdsmen ran off and made for the city, where they told the whole story, including what hadhappened to the demoniacs.	33 I guardiani fuggirono e, giunti nella città, riferirono ogni cosa, cioè il fatto degli ossessi.
34 Suddenly the whole city set out to meet Jesus; and as soon as they saw him they implored him toleave their neighbourhood.	34 Tutta la città si mosse per andare incontro a Gesù. Vedutolo, lo supplicarono di allontanarsi dai loro territori.
