Matthew 8

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 After he had come down from the mountain large crowds fol owed him.	1 Cuando Jesús bajó de la montaña, lo siguió una gran multitud.
2 Suddenly a man with a virulent skin-disease came up and bowed low in front of him, saying, 'Lord, ifyou are wil ing, you can cleanse me.'	2 Entonces un leproso fue a postrarse ante él y le dijo: «Señor, si quieres, puedes purificarme».
3 Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him saying, 'I am willing. Be cleansed.' And his skin-diseasewas cleansed at once.	3 Jesús extendió la mano y lo tocó, diciendo: «Lo quiero, queda purificado». Y al instante quedó purificado de su lepra.
4 Then Jesus said to him, 'Mind you tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest and make theoffering prescribed by Moses, as evidence to them.'	4 Jesús le dijo: «No se lo digas a nadie, pero ve a presentarse al sacerdote y entrega la ofrenda que ordenó Moisés para que les sirva de testimonio».
5 When he went into Capernaum a centurion came up and pleaded with him.	5 Al entrar en Cafarnaúm, se le acercó un centurión, rogándole»
6 'Sir,' he said, 'my servant is lying at home paralysed and in great pain.'	6 «Señor, mi sirviente está en casa enfermo de parálisis y sufre terriblemente».
7 Jesus said to him, 'I wil come myself and cure him.'	7 Jesús le dijo: «Yo mismo iré a curarlo».
8 The centurion replied, 'Sir, I am not worthy to have you under my roof; just give the word and myservant will be cured.	8 Pero el centurión respondió: «Señor, no soy digno de que entres en mi casa; basta que digas una palabra y mi sirviente se sanará.
9 For I am under authority myself and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man, "Go," and he goes;to another, "Come here," and he comes; to my servant, "Do this," and he does it.'	9 Porque cuando yo, que no soy más que un oficial subalterno, digo a uno de los soldados que están a mis órdenes: «Ve», él va, y a otro: «Ven», él viene; y cuando digo a mi sirviente: «Tienes que hacer esto», él lo hace».
10 When Jesus heard this he was astonished and said to those following him, 'In truth I tell you, in no onein Israel have I found faith as great as this.	10 Al oírlo, Jesús quedó admirado y dijo a los que lo seguían: «Les aseguro que no he encontrado a nadie en Israel que tenga tanta fe.
11 And I tel you that many will come from east and west and sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacobat the feast in the kingdom of Heaven;	11 Por eso les digo que muchos vendrán de Oriente y de Occidente, y se sentarán a la mesa con Abraham, Isaac y Jacob, en el Reino de los Cielos;
12 but the children of the kingdom wil be thrown out into the darkness outside, where there wil beweeping and grinding of teeth.'	12 en cambio, los herederos del reino serán arrojados afuera, a las tinieblas, donde habrá llantos y rechinar los dientes».
13 And to the centurion Jesus said, 'Go back, then; let this be done for you, as your faith demands.' Andthe servant was cured at that moment.	13 Y Jesús dijo al centurión: «Ve, y que suceda como has creído». Y el sirviente se curó en ese mismo momento.
14 And going into Peter's house Jesus found Peter's mother-in-law in bed and feverish.	14 Cuando Jesús llegó a la casa de Pedro, encontró a la suegra de este en cama con fiebre.
15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him.	15 Le tocó la mano y se le pasó la fiebre. Ella se levantó y se puso a servirlo.
16 That evening they brought him many who were possessed by devils. He drove out the spirits with acommand and cured al who were sick.	16 Al atardecer, le llevaron muchos endemoniados, y él, con su palabra, expulsó a los espíritus y curó a todos los que estaban enfermos,
17 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: He himself bore our sicknesses away andcarried our diseases.	17 para que se cumpliera lo que había sido anunciado por el profeta Isaías: "El tomó nuestras debilidades y cargó sobre sí nuestras enfermedades".
18 When Jesus saw the crowd al about him he gave orders to leave for the other side.	18 Al verse rodeado de tanta gente, Jesús mandó a sus discípulos que cruzaran a la otra orilla.
19 One of the scribes then came up and said to him, 'Master, I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'	19 Entonces se aproximó un escriba y le dijo: «Maestro, te seguiré adonde vayas».
20 Jesus said, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere tolay his head.'	20 Jesús le respondió: «Los zorros tienen sus cuevas y las aves del cielo sus nidos; pero el Hijo del hombre no tiene dónde reclinar la cabeza».
21 Another man, one of the disciples, said to him, 'Lord, let me go and bury my father first.'	21 Otro de sus discípulos le dijo: «Señor, permíteme que vaya antes a enterrar a mi padre».
22 But Jesus said, 'Fol ow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.'	22 Pero Jesús le respondió: «Sígueme, y deja que los muertos entierren a sus muertos».
23 Then he got into the boat fol owed by his disciples.	23 Después Jesús subió a la barca y sus discípulos lo siguieron.
24 Suddenly a storm broke over the lake, so violent that the boat was being swamped by the waves. Buthe was asleep.	24 De pronto se desató en el mar una tormenta tan grande, que las olas cubrían la barca. Mientras tanto, Jesús dormía.
25 So they went to him and woke him saying, 'Save us, Lord, we are lost!'	25 Acercándose a él, sus discípulos lo despertaron, diciéndole: «¡Sálvanos, Señor, nos hundimos!».
26 And he said to them, 'Why are you so frightened, you who have so little faith?' And then he stood upand rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.	26 El les respondió: «¿Por qué tienen miedo, hombres de poca fe?». Y levantándose, increpó al viento y al mar, y sobrevino una gran calma.
27 They were astounded and said, 'Whatever kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obeyhim?'	27 Los hombres se decían entonces, llenos de admiración: «¿Quién es este, que hasta el viento y el mar le obedecen?».
28 When he reached the territory of the Gadarenes on the other side, two demoniacs came towards himout of the tombs -- they were so dangerously violent that nobody could use that path.	28 Cuando Jesús llegó a la otra orilla, a la región de los gadarenos, fueron a su encuentro dos endemoniados que salían de los sepulcros. Eran tan feroces, que nadie podía pasar por ese camino.
29 Suddenly they shouted, 'What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture usbefore the time?'	29 Y comenzaron a gritar: «¿Que quieres de nosotros, Hijo de Dios? ¿Has venido aquí para atormentarnos antes de tiempo?»
30 Now some distance away there was a large herd of pigs feeding,	30 A cierta distancia había una gran piara de cerdos paciendo.
31 and the devils pleaded with Jesus, 'If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.'	31 Los demonios suplicaron a Jesús: «Si vas a expulsarnos, envíanos a esa piara».
32 And he said to them, 'Go then,' and they came out and made for the pigs; and at that the whole herdcharged down the cliff into the lake and perished in the water.	32 El les dijo: «Vayan». Ellos salieron y entraron en los cerdos: estos se precipitaron al mar desde lo alto del acantilado, y se ahogaron.
33 The herdsmen ran off and made for the city, where they told the whole story, including what hadhappened to the demoniacs.	33 Los cuidadores huyeron y fueron a la ciudad para llevar la noticia de todo lo que había sucedido con los endemoniados.
34 Suddenly the whole city set out to meet Jesus; and as soon as they saw him they implored him toleave their neighbourhood.	34 Toda la ciudad salió al encuentro de Jesús y, al verlo, le rogaron que se fuera de su territorio.
