Matthew 15

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Then Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem came to Jesus and said,	1 Allora si accostarono a Gesù degli Scribi e dei Farisei di Gerusalemme e gli dissero:
2 'Why do your disciples break away from the tradition of the elders? They eat without washing theirhands.'	2 Perchè i tuoi discepoli trasgrediscono la tradizione degli antichi? Infatti non si lavano le mani quando mangiano.
3 He answered, 'And why do you break away from the commandment of God for the sake of yourtradition?	3 Ma egli rispose loro: E anche voi, perchè trasgredite il comandamento di Dio per la vostra tradizione? Dio infatti ha detto:
4 For God said, "Honour your father and your mother" and "Anyone who curses his father or mother wilbe put to death."	4 Onora il padre e la madre e chi maledirà il padre e la madre sia punito di morte;
5 But you say, "If anyone says to his father or mother: Anything I might have used to help you isdedicated to God,	5 ma voialtri dite: Chiunque abbia detto al padre o alla madre: quello che dovresti avere da me sia offerto a Dio,
6 he is rid of his duty to father or mother." In this way you have made God's word ineffective by means ofyour tradition.	6 non è più obbligato ad onorare il padre e la madre; e colla vostra tradizione avete annullato il comandamento di Dio.
7 Hypocrites! How rightly Isaiah prophesied about you when he said:	7 Ipocriti, ben profetò di voi Isaia, quando disse:
8 This people honours me only with lip-service, while their hearts are far from me.	8 Questo popolo mi onora con le labbra, ma il suo cuore è lontano da me:
9 Their reverence of me is worthless; the lessons they teach are nothing but human commandments.'	9 però mi onorano invano, insegnando dottrine e comandamenti d'uomo.
10 He called the people to him and said, 'Listen, and understand.	10 E chiamata a sè la folla, disse loro: Ascoltate e intendete:
11 What goes into the mouth does not make anyone unclean; it is what comes out of the mouth thatmakes someone unclean.'	11 non quello che entra per la bocca contamina l'uomo; ma quello che esce dalla bocca, quello sì che contamina l'uomo.
12 Then the disciples came to him and said, 'Do you know that the Pharisees were shocked when theyheard what you said?'	12 Allora i suoi discepoli accostatisi gli dissero: Sai che i Farisei, udite le tue parole, ne son restati scandalizzati?
13 He replied, 'Any plant my heavenly Father has not planted wil be pul ed up by the roots.	13 Ed egli rispose loro: Qualunque pianta non piantata dal mio Padre celeste sarà sradicata.
14 Leave them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind; and if one blind person leads another, both wilfal into a pit.'	14 Lasciateli, son ciechi che guidano dei ciechi: e se un cieco ne guida un altro, tutti e due vanno a cadere in una fossa.
15 At this, Peter said to him, 'Explain the parable for us.'	15 Pietro allora prese a dirgli: Spiegaci questa parabola.
16 Jesus replied, 'Even you -- don't you yet understand?	16 Ed egli disse: Ora anche voi siete senza intelletto?
17 Can't you see that whatever goes into the mouth passes through the stomach and is discharged intothe sewer?	17 Non capite che quanto entra per la bocca, passa nel ventre e va a finire nel cesso?
18 But whatever comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and it is this that makes someoneunclean.	18 Ma quel che esce dalla bocca viene dal cuore e questo sì che contamina l'uomo.
19 For from the heart come evil intentions: murder, adultery, fornication, theft, perjury, slander.	19 Chè dal cuore vengono i cattivi pensieri, omicidi, adulteri, fornicazioni, furti, false testimonianze e bestemmie.
20 These are the things that make a person unclean. But eating with unwashed hands does not makeanyone unclean.'	20 QUeste cose contaminano l'uomo, ma il mangiare senza lavarsi le mani non contamina l'uomo.
21 Jesus left that place and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.	21 Partito di là Gesù si ritirò nelle parti di Tiro e di Sidone.
22 And suddenly out came a Canaanite woman from that district and started shouting, 'Lord, Son ofDavid, take pity on me. My daughter is tormented by a devil.'	22 Ed ecco una donna Cananea venne fuori da quei luoghi a dirgli, gridando: Abbi pietà di me, o Signore, Figlio di David: la mia figliola è crudelmente tormentata dal demonio.
23 But he said not a word in answer to her. And his disciples went and pleaded with him, saying, 'Giveher what she wants, because she keeps shouting after us.'	23 Egli però non le foce parola. E i suoi discepoli accostatisi a lui, lo pregavan dicendo: Licenziala, chè ci grida dietro.
24 He said in reply, 'I was sent only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.'	24 Ed egli rispose: Non son mandato che alle pecore perdute della casa d'Israele.
25 But the woman had come up and was bowing low before him. 'Lord,' she said, 'help me.'	25 Ma quella venne e l'adorò, dicendo: Signore, aiutami.
26 He replied, 'It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to little dogs.'	26 Ed egli le rispose: Non è bene prendere il pane dei figliuoli e gettarlo ai cani.
27 She retorted, 'Ah yes, Lord; but even little dogs eat the scraps that fal from their masters' table.'	27 Ed essa: Dici bene, Signore, ma anche i cagnolini mangiano delle briciole che cadono dalla mensa dei loro padroni.
28 Then Jesus answered her, 'Woman, you have great faith. Let your desire be granted.' And from thatmoment her daughter was wel again.	28 Allora Gesù le disse: O donna, è grande la tua fede, ti sia fatto come desideri. E da quel momento la sua figlia fu guarita.
29 Jesus went on from there and reached the shores of the Lake of Galilee, and he went up onto themountain. He took his seat,	29 E Gesù, partitosi di là, andò lungo il mare di Galilea; e, salito un monte, vi si pose a sedere.
30 and large crowds came to him bringing the lame, the crippled, the blind, the dumb and many others;these they put down at his feet, and he cured them.	30 E gli si accostarono numerose turbe che avevano seco muti, ciechi, zoppi, storpi e molti altri ammalati: li posero ai suoi piedi e Gesù li guarì:
31 The crowds were astonished to see the dumb speaking, the cripples whole again, the lame walkingand the blind with their sight, and they praised the God of Israel.	31 sicchè le turbe restavan maravigliate nel mirar parlare i muti, camminar gli zoppi, vedere i ciechi; e davan gloria al Dio d'Israele.
32 But Jesus cal ed his disciples to him and said, 'I feel sorry for al these people; they have been withme for three days now and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them off hungry, or they might col apse onthe way.'	32 Ma Gesù, chiamati i suoi discepoli, disse loro: Ho pietà di questo popolo, che da tre giorni sta meco e non ha da mangiare; non voglio mandarli via digiuni, chè non svengano per la strada.
33 The disciples said to him, 'Where in a deserted place could we get sufficient bread for such a largecrowd to have enough to eat?'	33 E gli dicono i discepoli: Dove trovare, in un deserto, tanti pani da saziar tanta gente?
34 Jesus said to them, 'How many loaves have you?' They said, 'Seven, and a few smal fish.'	34 E Gesù: Quanti pani avete? Risposero: Sette, e pochi pesciolini.
35 Then he instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground,	35 E Gesù ordinò alla gente di sedere per terra.
36 and he took the seven loaves and the fish, and after giving thanks he broke them and began handingthem to the disciples, who gave them to the crowds.	36 E presi i sette pani ed i pesci, ringraziando, li spezzò e li diede ai suoi discepoli, e i discepoli alla gente.
37 They al ate as much as they wanted, and they col ected what was left of the scraps, seven basketsful .	37 E tutti mangiarono a sazietà: e dei pezzi avanzati ne portaron via sette ceste piene.
38 Now four thousand men had eaten, to say nothing of women and children.	38 Ora a mangiare c'eran quattro mila persone, senza contare le donne e i fanciulli.
39 And when he had sent the crowds away he got into the boat and went to the territory of Magadan.	39 E licenziata la folla, Gesù entrò in una barca e andò nei dintorni di Magdala.
