Matthew 15

1 Then Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem came to Jesus and said,	1 Des Pharisiens et des maîtres de la Loi étaient arrivés de Jérusalem; ils s’approchèrent de Jésus et lui demandèrent:
2 'Why do your disciples break away from the tradition of the elders? They eat without washing theirhands.'	2 "Pourquoi tes disciples laissent-ils de côté la tradition des anciens? Ils ne se lavent pas les mains quand ils prennent leur repas.”
3 He answered, 'And why do you break away from the commandment of God for the sake of yourtradition?	3 Alors Jésus leur dit: "Et vous, pourquoi laissez-vous de côté le commandement de Dieu au nom de votre tradition?
4 For God said, "Honour your father and your mother" and "Anyone who curses his father or mother wilbe put to death."	4 Car Dieu a dit: Honore ton père et ta mère, et aussi: celui qui maudit son père ou sa mère sera mis à mort.
5 But you say, "If anyone says to his father or mother: Anything I might have used to help you isdedicated to God,	5 “Mais selon vous, quelqu’un peut répondre à son père ou à sa mère: ‘Ce que tu pourrais attendre de moi, je l’ai consacré à Dieu’.
6 he is rid of his duty to father or mother." In this way you have made God's word ineffective by means ofyour tradition.	6 Et on n’est plus tenu d’aider son père ou sa mère. Donc, avec votre tradition, vous annulez la parole de Dieu.
7 Hypocrites! How rightly Isaiah prophesied about you when he said:	7 “Comédiens! Le prophète Isaïe a joliment bien parlé de vous quand il a dit:
8 This people honours me only with lip-service, while their hearts are far from me.	8 Ce peuple m’honore des lèvres mais son cœur est loin de moi.
9 Their reverence of me is worthless; the lessons they teach are nothing but human commandments.'	9 Leur culte ne vaut rien, les préceptes qu’ils enseignent ne sont que des lois humaines.”
10 He called the people to him and said, 'Listen, and understand.	10 Alors Jésus appelle son monde. Il leur dit: "Écoutez et tâchez de comprendre.
11 What goes into the mouth does not make anyone unclean; it is what comes out of the mouth thatmakes someone unclean.'	11 Ce qui entre dans la bouche ne rend pas la personne impure; elle est rendue impure par ce qui sort de sa bouche.”
12 Then the disciples came to him and said, 'Do you know that the Pharisees were shocked when theyheard what you said?'	12 Les disciples viennent dire à Jésus: "Sais-tu que les Pharisiens sont scandalisés de ce que tu viens de dire?”
13 He replied, 'Any plant my heavenly Father has not planted wil be pul ed up by the roots.	13 Il leur répond: "Toute plante que mon Père du Ciel n’a pas plantée sera arrachée.
14 Leave them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind; and if one blind person leads another, both wilfal into a pit.'	14 Laissez-les; ce sont des guides aveugles, et quand un aveugle guide un autre aveugle, les deux tombent dans le fossé.”
15 At this, Peter said to him, 'Explain the parable for us.'	15 Alors Pierre lui dit: "Mais explique-nous donc ta sentence.”
16 Jesus replied, 'Even you -- don't you yet understand?	16 Jésus répond: "Vous avez donc vous aussi l’esprit bouché?
17 Can't you see that whatever goes into the mouth passes through the stomach and is discharged intothe sewer?	17 Vous ne comprenez pas que tout ce qui entre dans la bouche va dans le ventre et termine aux ordures?
18 But whatever comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and it is this that makes someoneunclean.	18 Mais ce qui sort de la bouche vient du cœur, et c’est cela qui rend l’homme impur.
19 For from the heart come evil intentions: murder, adultery, fornication, theft, perjury, slander.	19 Du cœur proviennent les pensées mauvaises, le meurtre, l’adultère, l’impureté, le vol, les faux témoignages et les calomnies.
20 These are the things that make a person unclean. But eating with unwashed hands does not makeanyone unclean.'	20 Tout cela rend l’homme impur, mais manger sans s’être lavé les mains n’a jamais rendu quelqu’un impur.”
21 Jesus left that place and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.	21 Jésus partit de là et s’en alla vers la frontière de Tyr et Sidon.
22 And suddenly out came a Canaanite woman from that district and started shouting, 'Lord, Son ofDavid, take pity on me. My daughter is tormented by a devil.'	22 Une femme cananéenne, qui venait de ce territoire, arriva alors en criant: "Aie pitié de moi, Seigneur, fils de David! Ma fille est affligée d’un démon!”
23 But he said not a word in answer to her. And his disciples went and pleaded with him, saying, 'Giveher what she wants, because she keeps shouting after us.'	23 Jésus ne répond rien. Les disciples insistent auprès de lui: "Renvoie-la, vois comme elle crie après nous!”
24 He said in reply, 'I was sent only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.'	24 Jésus leur répond: "Je n’ai été envoyé qu’aux brebis perdues du peuple d’Israël.”
25 But the woman had come up and was bowing low before him. 'Lord,' she said, 'help me.'	25 Mais la femme vient se jeter aux pieds de Jésus en lui disant: "Seigneur, fais quelque chose pour moi!”
26 He replied, 'It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to little dogs.'	26 Jésus lui répond: "On ne prend pas le pain des enfants pour le jeter aux chiens.”
27 She retorted, 'Ah yes, Lord; but even little dogs eat the scraps that fal from their masters' table.'	27 La femme lui dit: "Bien sûr, Seigneur, mais les petits chiens mangent les miettes qui tombent de la table des maîtres.”
28 Then Jesus answered her, 'Woman, you have great faith. Let your desire be granted.' And from thatmoment her daughter was wel again.	28 Alors Jésus lui fait cette réponse: "Femme, ta foi est grande, que la chose se fasse comme tu le veux.” Et dès ce moment-là sa fille fut guérie.
29 Jesus went on from there and reached the shores of the Lake of Galilee, and he went up onto themountain. He took his seat,	29 Jésus partit de là et vint sur les bords de la mer de Galilée. Il gravit la montagne, et là il s’assit.
30 and large crowds came to him bringing the lame, the crippled, the blind, the dumb and many others;these they put down at his feet, and he cured them.	30 Toute une foule venait à lui; ils amenaient leurs éclopés, des aveugles, des infirmes, des muets et beaucoup d’autres encore. Ils les jetaient à ses pieds et Jésus les guérissait.
31 The crowds were astonished to see the dumb speaking, the cripples whole again, the lame walkingand the blind with their sight, and they praised the God of Israel.	31 En voyant cela la foule était émerveillée: les muets parlaient, les infirmes étaient guéris, les éclopés marchaient, les aveugles voyaient! Et ils rendaient grâce au Dieu d’Israël.
32 But Jesus cal ed his disciples to him and said, 'I feel sorry for al these people; they have been withme for three days now and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them off hungry, or they might col apse onthe way.'	32 Alors Jésus appela à lui ses disciples et leur dit: "J’ai vraiment compassion de ces gens, car voilà trois jours qu’ils sont avec moi et ils n’ont rien à manger. Je ne veux pas les renvoyer à jeun, car ils pourraient se trouver mal en chemin.”
33 The disciples said to him, 'Where in a deserted place could we get sufficient bread for such a largecrowd to have enough to eat?'	33 Les disciples lui disent: "L’endroit est désert, comment pourrions-nous trouver assez de pain pour tant de gens?”
34 Jesus said to them, 'How many loaves have you?' They said, 'Seven, and a few smal fish.'	34 Jésus leur demande: "Combien de pains avez-vous?” Ils disent: "Sept, et quelques petits poissons.”
35 Then he instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground,	35 Jésus demande aux gens de s’asseoir par terre.
36 and he took the seven loaves and the fish, and after giving thanks he broke them and began handingthem to the disciples, who gave them to the crowds.	36 Il prend les sept pains et les poissons, il rend grâces et rompt le pain, puis il commence à le donner aux disciples qui le distribuent à la foule.
37 They al ate as much as they wanted, and they col ected what was left of the scraps, seven basketsful .	37 Tous mangèrent et furent rassasiés; on ramassa ce qui restait, de quoi remplir sept corbeilles.
38 Now four thousand men had eaten, to say nothing of women and children.	38 C’étaient pourtant près de 4 000 hommes qui avaient mangé, sans compter les femmes et les enfants.
39 And when he had sent the crowds away he got into the boat and went to the territory of Magadan.	39 Jésus renvoya la foule et monta dans la barque; il s’en alla vers la frontière de Magadan.
