Matthew 15

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Then Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem came to Jesus and said,	1 Allora si rivolsero a Gesù alcuni farisei e scribi venuti da Gerusalemme e gli domandarono:
2 'Why do your disciples break away from the tradition of the elders? They eat without washing theirhands.'	2 "Perché i tuoi discepoli trasgrediscono la tradizione degli anziani? Infatti non si lavano le mani quando prendono il cibo".
3 He answered, 'And why do you break away from the commandment of God for the sake of yourtradition?	3 Egli rispose loro: "E voi, perché trasgredite il precetto divino in nome della vostra tradizione?
4 For God said, "Honour your father and your mother" and "Anyone who curses his father or mother wilbe put to death."	4 Dio infatti ha detto: Onora il padre e la madre; e inoltre: Chi disprezza il padre o la madre sia messo a morte.
5 But you say, "If anyone says to his father or mother: Anything I might have used to help you isdedicated to God,	5 Voi invece dite: Se uno dice al padre o alla madre: "Ciò con cui ti avrei dovuto aiutare è offerto a Dio!",
6 he is rid of his duty to father or mother." In this way you have made God's word ineffective by means ofyour tradition.	6 non è tenuto ad onorare suo padre o sua madre. Così avete annullato la parola di Dio in nome della vostra tradizione.
7 Hypocrites! How rightly Isaiah prophesied about you when he said:	7 Ipocriti, bene profetò di voi Isaia, quando dice:
8 This people honours me only with lip-service, while their hearts are far from me.	8 Questo popolo mi onora con le labbra ma il suo cuore è lontano da me;
9 Their reverence of me is worthless; the lessons they teach are nothing but human commandments.'	9 è vano il culto che essi mi rendono, impartendo insegnamenti che sono precetti di uomini".
10 He called the people to him and said, 'Listen, and understand.	10 Poi, chiamata a sé la folla, disse: "Ascoltate e intendete.
11 What goes into the mouth does not make anyone unclean; it is what comes out of the mouth thatmakes someone unclean.'	11 Non ciò che entra nella bocca contamina l'uomo, ma quello che ne esce, questo contamina l'uomo".
12 Then the disciples came to him and said, 'Do you know that the Pharisees were shocked when theyheard what you said?'	12 Allora si avvicinano i discepoli e gli dicono: "Sai che i farisei, a sentire il tuo discorso, si sono scandalizzati?".
13 He replied, 'Any plant my heavenly Father has not planted wil be pul ed up by the roots.	13 Ed egli: "Tutto ciò che non piantò il Padre mio celeste, sarà sradicato.
14 Leave them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind; and if one blind person leads another, both wilfal into a pit.'	14 Lasciateli andare: sono ciechi, guide di ciechi. Se un cieco fa da guida a un cieco, tutti e due cadranno nella fossa".
15 At this, Peter said to him, 'Explain the parable for us.'	15 Allora Pietro prese la parola e disse: "Spiegaci questa parabola".
16 Jesus replied, 'Even you -- don't you yet understand?	16 Ed egli: "Allora anche voi siete senza intelligenza?
17 Can't you see that whatever goes into the mouth passes through the stomach and is discharged intothe sewer?	17 Non capite che tutto quello che entra nella bocca va nel ventre e poi viene espulso nella fogna?
18 But whatever comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and it is this that makes someoneunclean.	18 Le cose invece che escono dalla bocca provengono dal cuore e sono esse che contaminano l'uomo.
19 For from the heart come evil intentions: murder, adultery, fornication, theft, perjury, slander.	19 Dal cuore infatti provengono pensieri malvagi, omicidi, adultèri, fornicazioni, furti, false testimonianze, bestemmie.
20 These are the things that make a person unclean. But eating with unwashed hands does not makeanyone unclean.'	20 Queste sono le cose che contaminano l'uomo. Mangiare senza essersi lavate le mani non contamina l'uomo".
21 Jesus left that place and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.	21 Partito di là, Gesù si ritirò nelle regioni di Tiro e Sidone.
22 And suddenly out came a Canaanite woman from that district and started shouting, 'Lord, Son ofDavid, take pity on me. My daughter is tormented by a devil.'	22 Ed ecco: una donna cananea, originaria di quei paesi, gridava: "Abbi pietà di me, Signore, Figlio di Davide; mia figlia è duramente vessata dal demonio!".
23 But he said not a word in answer to her. And his disciples went and pleaded with him, saying, 'Giveher what she wants, because she keeps shouting after us.'	23 Ma egli non le rispose neppure una parola. Avvicinatisi i discepoli, lo pregavano: "Esaudiscila, perché sta gridando dietro a noi".
24 He said in reply, 'I was sent only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.'	24 Egli rispose: "Non sono stato mandato se non alle pecore disperse della casa d'Israele".
25 But the woman had come up and was bowing low before him. 'Lord,' she said, 'help me.'	25 Ma essa venne a prostrarsi davanti a lui e disse: "Signore, soccorrimi!".
26 He replied, 'It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to little dogs.'	26 Ed egli: "Non è bene prendere il pane dei figli e gettarlo ai cagnolini".
27 She retorted, 'Ah yes, Lord; but even little dogs eat the scraps that fal from their masters' table.'	27 Ma ella disse: "Sì, Signore; ma anche i cagnolini si nutrono delle briciole che cadono dalla mensa dei padroni".
28 Then Jesus answered her, 'Woman, you have great faith. Let your desire be granted.' And from thatmoment her daughter was wel again.	28 Allora Gesù rispose: "O donna, grande è la tua fede! Ti sia fatto come tu vuoi". Da quel momento sua figlia fu guarita.
29 Jesus went on from there and reached the shores of the Lake of Galilee, and he went up onto themountain. He took his seat,	29 Poi, partito di là, Gesù venne presso il mare di Galilea e, salito sul monte, si fermò lì.
30 and large crowds came to him bringing the lame, the crippled, the blind, the dumb and many others;these they put down at his feet, and he cured them.	30 Gli si avvicinarono molte folle che avevano con sé zoppi, storpi, ciechi, muti e molti altri infermi e li deposero ai suoi piedi. Egli li guarì,
31 The crowds were astonished to see the dumb speaking, the cripples whole again, the lame walkingand the blind with their sight, and they praised the God of Israel.	31 tanto che le folle, al vedere muti che parlavano, storpi guariti, zoppi che camminavano e ciechi che vedevano, rimasero stupite e glorificarono il Dio d'Israele.
32 But Jesus cal ed his disciples to him and said, 'I feel sorry for al these people; they have been withme for three days now and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them off hungry, or they might col apse onthe way.'	32 Poi Gesù, chiamati a sé i suoi discepoli, disse loro: "Ho pietà della folla, perché sono tre giorni che stanno con me e non hanno di che rifocillarsi. Non voglio rimandarli digiuni, perché potrebbero venir meno per la via".
33 The disciples said to him, 'Where in a deserted place could we get sufficient bread for such a largecrowd to have enough to eat?'	33 Gli dicono i discepoli: "Dove potremo procurarci in un deserto tanto pane da sfamare una folla così grande?".
34 Jesus said to them, 'How many loaves have you?' They said, 'Seven, and a few smal fish.'	34 Gesù a loro: "Quanti pani avete?". Risposero: "Sette, con pochi pesciolini".
35 Then he instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground,	35 Allora ordinò alla folla di adagiarsi per terra;
36 and he took the seven loaves and the fish, and after giving thanks he broke them and began handingthem to the disciples, who gave them to the crowds.	36 prese quindi i sette pani con i pesci e, dopo aver reso grazie, li spezzò e li diede ai discepoli e questi alla folla.
37 They al ate as much as they wanted, and they col ected what was left of the scraps, seven basketsful .	37 Mangiarono tutti a sazietà. Degli avanzi portarono via sette sporte piene.
38 Now four thousand men had eaten, to say nothing of women and children.	38 Quelli che mangiarono erano quattromila uomini, senza contare donne e bambini.
39 And when he had sent the crowds away he got into the boat and went to the territory of Magadan.	39 Dopo, congedata la folla, salì in barca e si recò nella regione di Magadàn.
