Matthew 15

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Then Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem came to Jesus and said,	1 In quel tempo alcuni farisei e alcuni scribi, venuti da Gerusalemme, si avvicinarono a Gesù e gli dissero:
2 'Why do your disciples break away from the tradition of the elders? They eat without washing theirhands.'	2 «Perché i tuoi discepoli trasgrediscono la tradizione degli antichi? Infatti quando prendono cibo non si lavano le mani!».
3 He answered, 'And why do you break away from the commandment of God for the sake of yourtradition?	3 Ed egli rispose loro: «E voi, perché trasgredite il comandamento di Dio in nome della vostra tradizione?
4 For God said, "Honour your father and your mother" and "Anyone who curses his father or mother wilbe put to death."	4 Dio ha detto: Onora il padre e la madre e inoltre: Chi maledice il padre o la madre sia messo a morte.
5 But you say, "If anyone says to his father or mother: Anything I might have used to help you isdedicated to God,	5 Voi invece dite: “Chiunque dichiara al padre o alla madre: Ciò con cui dovrei aiutarti è un’offerta a Dio,
6 he is rid of his duty to father or mother." In this way you have made God's word ineffective by means ofyour tradition.	6 non è più tenuto a onorare suo padre”. Così avete annullato la parola di Dio con la vostra tradizione.
7 Hypocrites! How rightly Isaiah prophesied about you when he said:	7 Ipocriti! Bene ha profetato di voi Isaia, dicendo:
8 This people honours me only with lip-service, while their hearts are far from me.	8 Questo popolo mi onora con le labbra, ma il suo cuore è lontano da me.
9 Their reverence of me is worthless; the lessons they teach are nothing but human commandments.'	9 Invano essi mi rendono culto, insegnando dottrine che sono precetti di uomini».
10 He called the people to him and said, 'Listen, and understand.	10 Poi, riunita la folla, disse loro: «Ascoltate e comprendete bene!
11 What goes into the mouth does not make anyone unclean; it is what comes out of the mouth thatmakes someone unclean.'	11 Non ciò che entra nella bocca rende impuro l’uomo; ciò che esce dalla bocca, questo rende impuro l’uomo!».
12 Then the disciples came to him and said, 'Do you know that the Pharisees were shocked when theyheard what you said?'	12 Allora i discepoli si avvicinarono per dirgli: «Sai che i farisei, a sentire questa parola, si sono scandalizzati?».
13 He replied, 'Any plant my heavenly Father has not planted wil be pul ed up by the roots.	13 Ed egli rispose: «Ogni pianta, che non è stata piantata dal Padre mio celeste, verrà sradicata.
14 Leave them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind; and if one blind person leads another, both wilfal into a pit.'	14 Lasciateli stare! Sono ciechi e guide di ciechi. E quando un cieco guida un altro cieco, tutti e due cadranno in un fosso!».
15 At this, Peter said to him, 'Explain the parable for us.'	15 Pietro allora gli disse: «Spiegaci questa parabola».
16 Jesus replied, 'Even you -- don't you yet understand?	16 Ed egli rispose: «Neanche voi siete ancora capaci di comprendere?
17 Can't you see that whatever goes into the mouth passes through the stomach and is discharged intothe sewer?	17 Non capite che tutto ciò che entra nella bocca, passa nel ventre e viene gettato in una fogna?
18 But whatever comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and it is this that makes someoneunclean.	18 Invece ciò che esce dalla bocca proviene dal cuore. Questo rende impuro l’uomo.
19 For from the heart come evil intentions: murder, adultery, fornication, theft, perjury, slander.	19 Dal cuore, infatti, provengono propositi malvagi, omicidi, adultèri, impurità, furti, false testimonianze, calunnie.
20 These are the things that make a person unclean. But eating with unwashed hands does not makeanyone unclean.'	20 Queste sono le cose che rendono impuro l’uomo; ma il mangiare senza lavarsi le mani non rende impuro l’uomo».
21 Jesus left that place and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.	21 Partito di là, Gesù si ritirò verso la zona di Tiro e di Sidone.
22 And suddenly out came a Canaanite woman from that district and started shouting, 'Lord, Son ofDavid, take pity on me. My daughter is tormented by a devil.'	22 Ed ecco, una donna cananea, che veniva da quella regione, si mise a gridare: «Pietà di me, Signore, figlio di Davide! Mia figlia è molto tormentata da un demonio».
23 But he said not a word in answer to her. And his disciples went and pleaded with him, saying, 'Giveher what she wants, because she keeps shouting after us.'	23 Ma egli non le rivolse neppure una parola. Allora i suoi discepoli gli si avvicinarono e lo implorarono: «Esaudiscila, perché ci viene dietro gridando!».
24 He said in reply, 'I was sent only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.'	24 Egli rispose: «Non sono stato mandato se non alle pecore perdute della casa d’Israele».
25 But the woman had come up and was bowing low before him. 'Lord,' she said, 'help me.'	25 Ma quella si avvicinò e si prostrò dinanzi a lui, dicendo: «Signore, aiutami!».
26 He replied, 'It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to little dogs.'	26 Ed egli rispose: «Non è bene prendere il pane dei figli e gettarlo ai cagnolini».
27 She retorted, 'Ah yes, Lord; but even little dogs eat the scraps that fal from their masters' table.'	27 «È vero, Signore – disse la donna –, eppure i cagnolini mangiano le briciole che cadono dalla tavola dei loro padroni».
28 Then Jesus answered her, 'Woman, you have great faith. Let your desire be granted.' And from thatmoment her daughter was wel again.	28 Allora Gesù le replicò: «Donna, grande è la tua fede! Avvenga per te come desideri». E da quell’istante sua figlia fu guarita.
29 Jesus went on from there and reached the shores of the Lake of Galilee, and he went up onto themountain. He took his seat,	29 Gesù si allontanò di là, giunse presso il mare di Galilea e, salito sul monte, lì si fermò.
30 and large crowds came to him bringing the lame, the crippled, the blind, the dumb and many others;these they put down at his feet, and he cured them.	30 Attorno a lui si radunò molta folla, recando con sé zoppi, storpi, ciechi, sordi e molti altri malati; li deposero ai suoi piedi, ed egli li guarì,
31 The crowds were astonished to see the dumb speaking, the cripples whole again, the lame walkingand the blind with their sight, and they praised the God of Israel.	31 tanto che la folla era piena di stupore nel vedere i muti che parlavano, gli storpi guariti, gli zoppi che camminavano e i ciechi che vedevano. E lodava il Dio d’Israele.
32 But Jesus cal ed his disciples to him and said, 'I feel sorry for al these people; they have been withme for three days now and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them off hungry, or they might col apse onthe way.'	32 Allora Gesù chiamò a sé i suoi discepoli e disse: «Sento compassione per la folla. Ormai da tre giorni stanno con me e non hanno da mangiare. Non voglio rimandarli digiuni, perché non vengano meno lungo il cammino».
33 The disciples said to him, 'Where in a deserted place could we get sufficient bread for such a largecrowd to have enough to eat?'	33 E i discepoli gli dissero: «Come possiamo trovare in un deserto tanti pani da sfamare una folla così grande?».
34 Jesus said to them, 'How many loaves have you?' They said, 'Seven, and a few smal fish.'	34 Gesù domandò loro: «Quanti pani avete?». Dissero: «Sette, e pochi pesciolini».
35 Then he instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground,	35 Dopo aver ordinato alla folla di sedersi per terra,
36 and he took the seven loaves and the fish, and after giving thanks he broke them and began handingthem to the disciples, who gave them to the crowds.	36 prese i sette pani e i pesci, rese grazie, li spezzò e li dava ai discepoli, e i discepoli alla folla.
37 They al ate as much as they wanted, and they col ected what was left of the scraps, seven basketsful .	37 Tutti mangiarono a sazietà. Portarono via i pezzi avanzati: sette sporte piene.
38 Now four thousand men had eaten, to say nothing of women and children.	38 Quelli che avevano mangiato erano quattromila uomini, senza contare le donne e i bambini.
39 And when he had sent the crowds away he got into the boat and went to the territory of Magadan.	39 Congedata la folla, Gesù salì sulla barca e andò nella regione di Magadàn.
