Matthew 15

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Then Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem came to Jesus and said,	1 Alors des Pharisiens et des scribes de Jérusalem s'approchent de Jésus et lui disent:
2 'Why do your disciples break away from the tradition of the elders? They eat without washing theirhands.'	2 "Pourquoi tes disciples transgressent-ils la tradition des anciens? En effet, ils ne se lavent pas lesmains au moment de prendre leur repas" --
3 He answered, 'And why do you break away from the commandment of God for the sake of yourtradition?	3 "Et vous, répliqua-t-il, pourquoi transgressez-vous le commandement de Dieu au nom de votretradition?
4 For God said, "Honour your father and your mother" and "Anyone who curses his father or mother wilbe put to death."	4 En effet, Dieu a dit: Honore ton père et ta mère, et Que celui qui maudit son père ou sa mère soitpuni de mort.
5 But you say, "If anyone says to his father or mother: Anything I might have used to help you isdedicated to God,	5 Mais vous, vous dites: Quiconque dira à son père ou à sa mère: "Les biens dont j'aurais put'assister, je les consacre",
6 he is rid of his duty to father or mother." In this way you have made God's word ineffective by means ofyour tradition.	6 celui-là sera quitte de ses devoirs envers son père ou sa mère. Et vous avez annulé la parole deDieu au nom de votre tradition.
7 Hypocrites! How rightly Isaiah prophesied about you when he said:	7 Hypocrites! Isaïe a bien prophétisé de vous, quand il a dit:
8 This people honours me only with lip-service, while their hearts are far from me.	8 Ce peuple m'honore des lèvres, mais leur coeur est loin de moi.
9 Their reverence of me is worthless; the lessons they teach are nothing but human commandments.'	9 Vain est le culte qu'ils me rendent: les doctrines qu'ils enseignent ne sont que préceptes humains."
10 He called the people to him and said, 'Listen, and understand.	10 Et ayant appelé la foule près de lui, il leur dit: "Ecoutez et comprenez!
11 What goes into the mouth does not make anyone unclean; it is what comes out of the mouth thatmakes someone unclean.'	11 Ce n'est pas ce qui entre dans la bouche qui souille l'homme; mais ce qui sort de sa bouche,voilà ce qui souille l'homme."
12 Then the disciples came to him and said, 'Do you know that the Pharisees were shocked when theyheard what you said?'	12 Alors s'approchant les disciples lui disent: "Sais-tu que les Pharisiens se sont choqués det'entendre parler ainsi?"
13 He replied, 'Any plant my heavenly Father has not planted wil be pul ed up by the roots.	13 Il répondit: "Tout plant que n'a point planté mon Père céleste sera arraché.
14 Leave them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind; and if one blind person leads another, both wilfal into a pit.'	14 Laissez-les: ce sont des aveugles qui guident des aveugles! Or si un aveugle guide un aveugle,tous les deux tomberont dans un trou."
15 At this, Peter said to him, 'Explain the parable for us.'	15 Pierre, prenant la parole, lui dit: "Explique-nous la parabole."
16 Jesus replied, 'Even you -- don't you yet understand?	16 Il dit: "Vous aussi, maintenant encore, vous êtes sans intelligence?
17 Can't you see that whatever goes into the mouth passes through the stomach and is discharged intothe sewer?	17 Ne comprenez-vous pas que tout ce qui pénètre dans la bouche passe dans le ventre, puiss'évacue aux lieux d'aisance,
18 But whatever comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and it is this that makes someoneunclean.	18 tandis que ce qui sort de la bouche procède du coeur, et c'est cela qui souille l'homme?
19 For from the heart come evil intentions: murder, adultery, fornication, theft, perjury, slander.	19 Du coeur en effet procèdent mauvais desseins, meurtres, adultères, débauches, vols, fauxtémoignages, diffamations.
20 These are the things that make a person unclean. But eating with unwashed hands does not makeanyone unclean.'	20 Voilà les choses qui souillent l'homme; mais manger sans s'être lavé les mains, cela ne souillepas l'homme."
21 Jesus left that place and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.	21 En sortant de là, Jésus se retira dans la région de Tyr et de Sidon.
22 And suddenly out came a Canaanite woman from that district and started shouting, 'Lord, Son ofDavid, take pity on me. My daughter is tormented by a devil.'	22 Et voici qu'une femme cananéenne, étant sortie de ce territoire, criait en disant: "Aie pitié demoi, Seigneur, fils de David: ma fille est fort malmenée par un démon."
23 But he said not a word in answer to her. And his disciples went and pleaded with him, saying, 'Giveher what she wants, because she keeps shouting after us.'	23 Mais il ne lui répondit pas un mot. Ses disciples, s'approchant, le priaient: "Fais-lui grâce, carelle nous poursuit de ses cris."
24 He said in reply, 'I was sent only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.'	24 A quoi il répondit: "Je n'ai été envoyé qu'aux brebis perdues de la maison d'Israël."
25 But the woman had come up and was bowing low before him. 'Lord,' she said, 'help me.'	25 Mais la femme était arrivée et se tenait prosternée devant lui en disant: "Seigneur, viens à monsecours!"
26 He replied, 'It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to little dogs.'	26 Il lui répondit: "Il ne sied pas de prendre le pain des enfants et de le jeter aux petits chiens" --
27 She retorted, 'Ah yes, Lord; but even little dogs eat the scraps that fal from their masters' table.'	27 "Oui, Seigneur! dit-elle, et justement les petits chiens mangent des miettes qui tombent de latable de leurs maîtres!"
28 Then Jesus answered her, 'Woman, you have great faith. Let your desire be granted.' And from thatmoment her daughter was wel again.	28 Alors Jésus lui répondit: "O femme, grande est ta foi! Qu'il t'advienne selon ton désir!" Et de cemoment sa fille fut guérie.
29 Jesus went on from there and reached the shores of the Lake of Galilee, and he went up onto themountain. He took his seat,	29 Etant parti de là, Jésus vint au bord de la mer de Galilée. Il gravit la montagne, et là il s'assit.
30 and large crowds came to him bringing the lame, the crippled, the blind, the dumb and many others;these they put down at his feet, and he cured them.	30 Et des foules nombreuses s'approchèrent de lui, ayant avec elles des boiteux, des estropiés, desaveugles, des muets et bien d'autres encore, qu'ils déposèrent à ses pieds; et il les guérit.
31 The crowds were astonished to see the dumb speaking, the cripples whole again, the lame walkingand the blind with their sight, and they praised the God of Israel.	31 Et les foules de s'émerveiller en voyant ces muets qui parlaient, ces estropiés qui redevenaientvalides, ces boiteux qui marchaient et ces aveugles qui recouvraient la vue; et ils rendirent gloire au Dieud'Israël.
32 But Jesus cal ed his disciples to him and said, 'I feel sorry for al these people; they have been withme for three days now and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them off hungry, or they might col apse onthe way.'	32 Jésus, cependant, appela à lui ses disciples et leur dit: "J'ai pitié de la foule, car voilà déjà troisjours qu'ils restent auprès de moi et ils n'ont pas de quoi manger. Les renvoyer à jeun, je ne le veux pas: ilspourraient défaillir en route."
33 The disciples said to him, 'Where in a deserted place could we get sufficient bread for such a largecrowd to have enough to eat?'	33 Les disciples lui disent: "Où prendrons-nous, dans un désert, assez de pains pour rassasier unetelle foule?"
34 Jesus said to them, 'How many loaves have you?' They said, 'Seven, and a few smal fish.'	34 Jésus leur dit: "Combien de pains avez-vous" - "Sept, dirent-ils, et quelques petits poissons."
35 Then he instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground,	35 Alors il ordonna à la foule de s'étendre à terre;
36 and he took the seven loaves and the fish, and after giving thanks he broke them and began handingthem to the disciples, who gave them to the crowds.	36 puis il prit les sept pains et les poissons, rendit grâces, les rompit et il les donnait à ses disciples,qui les donnaient à la foule.
37 They al ate as much as they wanted, and they col ected what was left of the scraps, seven basketsful .	37 Tous mangèrent et furent rassasiés, et des morceaux qui restaient on ramassa sept pleinescorbeilles!
38 Now four thousand men had eaten, to say nothing of women and children.	38 Or ceux qui mangèrent étaient 4.000 hommes, sans compter les femmes et les enfants.
39 And when he had sent the crowds away he got into the boat and went to the territory of Magadan.	39 Après avoir renvoyé les foules, Jésus monta dans la barque et s'en vint dans le territoire deMagadan.
