2 Abraham fathered Isaac, Isaac fathered Jacob, Jacob fathered Judah and his brothers,	2 אַבְרָהָם הוֹלִיד אֶת־יִצְחָק וְיִצְחָק הוֹלִיד אֶת־יַעֲקֹב וְיַעֲקֹב הוֹלִיד אֶת־יְהוּדָה וְאֶת־אֶחָיו
3 Judah fathered Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar, Perez fathered Hezron, Hezron fatheredRam,	3 וִיהוּדָה הוֹלִיד אֶת־פֶּרֶץ וְאֶת זֶרַח מִתָּמָר וּפֶרֶץ הוֹלִיד אֶת־חֶצְרוֹן וְחֶצְרוֹן הוֹלִיד אֶת־רָם
4 Ram fathered Amminadab, Amminadab fathered Nahshon, Nahshon fathered Salmon,	4 וְרָם הוֹלִיד אֶת־עַמִּינָדָב וְעַמִּינָדָב הוֹלִיד אֶת־נַחְשׁוֹן וְנַחְשׁוֹן הוֹלִיד אֶת־שַׂלְמוֹן
5 Salmon fathered Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz fathered Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obedfathered Jesse;	5 וְשַׂלְמוֹן הוֹלִיד אֶת־בֹּעַז מֵרָחָב וּבֹעַז הוֹלִיד אֶת־עוֹבֵד מֵרוּת וְעוֹבֵד הוֹלִיד אֶת־יִשָׁי
6 and Jesse fathered King David. David fathered Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah's wife,	6 וְיִשַׁי הוֹלִיד אֶת־דָּוִד הַמֶּלֶךְ וְדָוִד הַמֶּלֶךְ הוֹלִיד אֶת־שְׁלֹמֹה מֵאֵשֶׁת אוּרִיָּה
7 Solomon fathered Rehoboam, Rehoboam fathered Abijah, Abijah fathered Asa,	7 וּשְׁלֹמֹה הוֹלִיד אֶת־רְחַבְעָם וּרְחַבְעָם הוֹלִיד אֶת־אֲבִיָּה וַאֲבִיָּה הוֹלִיד אֶת־אָסָא
8 Asa fathered Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat fathered Joram, Joram fathered Uzziah,	8 וְאָסָא הוֹלִיד אֶת־יְהוֹשָׁפָט וִיהוֹשָׁפָט הוֹלִיד אֶת־יוֹרָם וְיוֹרָם הוֹלִיד אֶת־עֻזִּיָּהוּ
9 Uzziah fathered Jotham, Jotham fathered Ahaz, Ahaz fathered Hezekiah,	9 וְעֻזִּיָּהוּ הוֹלִיד אֶת־יוֹתָם וְיוֹתָם הוֹלִיד אֶת־אָחָז וְאָחָז הוֹלִיד אֶת־יְחִזְקִיָּהוּ
10 Hezekiah fathered Manasseh, Manasseh fathered Amon, Amon fathered Josiah;	10 וִיחִזְקִיָּהוּ הוֹלִיד אֶת־מְנַשֶּׁה וּמְנַשֶּׁה הוֹלִיד אֶת־אָמוֹן וְאָמוֹן הוֹלִיד אֶת־יֹאשִׁיָּהוּ
11 and Josiah fathered Jechoniah and his brothers. Then the deportation to Babylon took place.	11 וְיֹאשִׁיָּהוּ הוֹלִיד אֶת־יְכָנְיָהוּ וְאֶת־אֶחָיו לְעֵת גָּלוּת בָּבֶל
12 After the deportation to Babylon: Jechoniah fathered Shealtiel, Shealtiel fathered Zerubbabel,	12 וְאַחֲרֵי גְּלוֹתָם בָּבֶלָה הוֹלִיד יְכָנְיָהוּ אֶת שְׁאַלְתִּיאֵל וּשְׁאַלְתִּיאֵל הוֹלִיד אֶת־זְרֻבָּבֶל
13 Zerubbabel fathered Abiud, Abiud fathered Eliakim, Eliakim fathered Azor,	13 וּזְרֻבָּבֶל הוֹלִיד אֶת־אֲבִיהוּד וַאֲבִיהוּד הוֹלִיד אֶת־אֶלְיָקִים וְאֶלְיָקִים הוֹלִיד אֶת עַזּוּר
14 Azor fathered Zadok, Zadok fathered Achim, Achim fathered Eliud,	14 וְעַזּוּר הוֹלִיד אֶת־צָדוֹק וְצָדוֹק הוֹלִיד אֶת־יָכִין וְיָכִין הוֹלִיד אֶת־אֱלִיהוּד
15 Eliud fathered Eleazar, Eleazar fathered Matthan, Matthan fathered Jacob;	15 וֶאֱלִיהוּד הוֹלִיד אֶת־אֶלְעָזָר וְאֶלְעָזָר הוֹלִיד אֶת־מַתָּן וּמַתָּן הוֹלִיד אֶת־יַעֲקֹב
16 and Jacob fathered Joseph the husband of Mary; of her was born Jesus who is called Christ.	16 וְיַעֲקֹב הוֹלִיד אֶת־יוֹסֵף בַּעַל מִרְיָם אֲשֶׁר מִמֶּנָּה נוֹלַד יֵשׁוּעַ הַנִּקְרָא מָשִׁיחַ
17 The sum of generations is therefore: fourteen from Abraham to David; fourteen from David to theBabylonian deportation; and fourteen from the Babylonian deportation to Christ.	17 וְהִנֵּה כָּל־הַדֹּרוֹת מִן־אַבְרָהָם עַד־דָּוִד אַרְבָּעָה עָשָׂר דֹּרוֹת וּמִן־דָּוִד עַד־גָּלוּת בָּבֶל אַרְבָּעָה עָשָׂר דֹּרוֹת וּמֵעֵת גָּלוּת בָּבֶל עַד־הַמָּשִׁיחַ אַרְבָּעָה עָשָׂר דֹּרוֹת
18 This is how Jesus Christ came to be born. His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph; but before theycame to live together she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.	18 וְהֻלֶּדֶת יֵשׁוּעַ הַמָּשִׁיחַ כֹּה הָיָתָה מִרְיָם אִמּוֹ אֹרְשָׂה לְיוֹסֵף וּבְטֶרֶם יָבֹא אֵלֶיהָ נִמְצֵאת הָרָה לְרוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ
19 Her husband Joseph, being an upright man and wanting to spare her disgrace, decided to divorce herinformal y.	19 וְיוֹסֵף בַּעְלָהּ הָיָה אִישׁ צַדִּיק וְלֹא אָבָה לְתִתָּהּ לָבוּז וַיֹּאמֶר בְּלִבּוֹ לְשַׁלְּחָהּ בַּסָּתֶר
20 He had made up his mind to do this when suddenly the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dreamand said, 'Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because she has conceivedwhat is in her by the Holy Spirit.	20 הוּא חשֵׁב כָּזֹאת וְהִנֵּה מַלְאַךְ יְהוָֹה נִרְאָה אֵלָיו בַּחֲלוֹם וַיֹּאמַר יוֹסֵף בֶּן־דָּוִד אַל־תִּירָא מִכְּנוֹס אֵלֶיךָ אֵת מִרְיָם אִשְׁתֶּךָ כִּי אֲשֶׁר הֹרָה בָהּ מֵרוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ הוּא
21 She wil give birth to a son and you must name him Jesus, because he is the one who is to save hispeople from their sins.'	21 וְהִיא יֹלֶדֶת בֵּן וְקָרָאתָ אֶת־שְׁמוֹ יֵשׁוּעַ כִּי הוּא יוֹשִׁיעַ אֶת־עַמּוֹ מֵעֲוֺנוֹתֵיהֶם
22 Now al this took place to fulfil what the Lord had spoken through the prophet:	22 וַתְּהִי כָל־זֹאת לְמַלֹּאת אֵת אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּר יְהוָֹה בְּיַד הַנָּבִיא לֵאמֹר
23 Look! the virgin is with child and will give birth to a son whom they wil cal Immanuel, a name whichmeans 'God-is-with-us'.	23 הִנֵּה הָעַלְמָה הָרָה וְיֹלֶדֶת בֵּן וְקָרְאוּ שְׁמוֹ עִמָּנוּאֵל אֲשֶׁר פֵּרוּשׁוֹ הָאֵל עִמָּנוּ
24 When Joseph woke up he did what the angel of the Lord had told him to do: he took his wife to hishome;	24 וַיִּיקַץ יוֹסֵף מִשְּׁנָתוֹ וַיַּעַשׂ כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּהוּ מַלְאַךְ יְהוָֹה וַיִּקַּח אֵלָיו אֶת־אִשְׁתּוֹ
25 he had not had intercourse with her when she gave birth to a son; and he named him Jesus.	25 וְלֹא יְדָעָהּ עַד כִּי־יָלְדָה בֵּן אֶת־בְּכוֹרָהּ וַיִּקְרָא אֶת־שְׁמוֹ יֵשׁוּעַ
