¹ But you (Bethlehem) Ephrathah, the least of the clans of Judah, from you will come for me a future rulerof Israel whose origins go back to the distant past, to the days of old.	¹ E tu, Betlemme, nella terra di Efrata, pur così piccola di consistenza tra gruppi di mille di Giuda, da te mi deve uscire colui a cui spetterà la signoria in Israele: la sua origine è da molto prima, dai giorni più antichi.
² Hence Yahweh will abandon them only until she who is in labour gives birth, and then those who surviveof his race wil be reunited to the Israelites.	² Perciò egli la lascerà fino al tempo in cui la partoriente partorisca: allora il resto dei suoi fratelli tornerà ai figli di Israele.
³ He wil take his stand and he wil shepherd them with the power of Yahweh, with the majesty of thename of his God, and they wil be secure, for his greatness wil extend henceforth to the most distant parts of thecountry.	³ Egli si appresta a pascere con la potenza di Jahvè e con la maestà del nome di Jahvè suo Dio. E saranno al riparo, poiché ora diverrà grande fino alle estremità della terra.
⁴ He himself wil be peace! Should the Assyrian invade our country, should he set foot in our land, weshall raise seven shepherds against him, eight leaders of men;	⁴ E tale sarà la pace: qualora l’Assiria venisse nella nostra terra e mettesse piede nella nostra patria, le contrapporremmo sette pastori e otto principi dalla comune degli uomini.
⁵ they wil shepherd Assyria with the sword, the country of Nimrod with naked blade. He will save us fromthe Assyrian, should he invade our country, should he set foot inside our frontiers.	⁵ Essi pascerebbero la terra di Assiria con la spada e pera di Nimrod con il brando sguainato. Essi ci libererebbero dall’Assiria quando volessero entrare nella nostra terra e quando mettessero piede nei nostri confini.
⁶ Then what is left of Jacob, surrounded by many peoples, wil be like a dew from Yahweh, like showerson the grass, which do not depend on human agency and are beyond human control.	⁶ E avverrà: il resto di Giacobbe tra le genti in mezzo a molti popoli, sarà come la rugiada da Jahvè come la pioggia sull’erba, che non attende dall’uomo, non spera dai figli dell’uomo.
⁷ Then what is left of Jacob, surrounded by many peoples, wil be like a lion among the forest beasts, like a fierce lion among flocks of sheep trampling as he goes, mangling his prey which no one takes from him.	⁷ E avverrà: il resto di Giacobbe tra i popoli, in mezzo a molte nazioni, sarà come un leone tra le fiere del bosco, come un leoncello tra greggi di pecore, il quale, dove passa, calpesta e sbrana, e non c’è scampo.
⁸ You wil be victorious over your foes and al your enemies will be torn to pieces.	⁸ Prevalga la tua mano sui tuoi nemici e tutti i tuoi avversari siano sterminati.
⁹ When that day comes- declares Yahweh- I shal tear your horses away from you, I shal destroy yourchariots;	⁹ E avverrà in quel giorno: — oracolo di Jahvè — sterminerò i tuoi cavalli in mezzo a te e manderò in rovina i tuoi carri.
¹⁰ I shall tear the cities from your country, I shal overthrow all your fortresses;	¹⁰ Sterminerò le città della tua terra e distruggerò tutte le tue fortezze.
¹¹ I shall tear the spells out of your hands and you wil have no more soothsayers;	¹¹ Sterminerò gl’incantesimi dalla tua mano e non avrai più divinatori.
¹² I shall tear away your images and your sacred pillars from among you, and no longer wil you worshipthings which your own hands have made!	¹² Sterminerò i tuoi idoli e le tue stele in mezzo a te, e tu non ti prostrerai più davanti a un lavoro delle tue mani.
¹³ I shall uproot your sacred poles and shal destroy your cities!	¹³ Distruggerò i tuoi pali sacri in mezzo a te e rovinerò i tuoi idoli.
¹⁴ In furious anger I shal wreak vengeance on the nations who have disobeyed me!	¹⁴ Con ira e sdegno farò vendetta delle genti che non hanno ascoltato.
