1 After this plague, Yahweh spoke to Moses and to the priest Eleazar son of Aaron and said:	1 Postquam noxiorum sanguis effusus est, dixit Dominus ad Moysen et Eleazarum filium Aaron sacerdotem :
2 'Take a census of the whole community of Israelites, by families: al those of twenty years and over, fitto bear arms in Israel.'	2 Numerate omnem summam filiorum Israël a viginti annis et supra, per domos et cognationes suas, cunctos qui possunt ad bella procedere.
3 So Moses and the priest Eleazar took a census of them on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan byJericho. They counted	3 Locuti sunt itaque Moyses et Eleazar sacerdos, in campestribus Moab super Jordanem contra Jericho, ad eos qui erant
4 (as Yahweh had ordered Moses and the Israelites after leaving Egypt) men of twenty years and over:	4 a viginti annis et supra, sicut Dominus imperaverat, quorum iste est numerus.
5 Reuben, the first-born of Israel. The sons of Reuben: for Hanoch, the Hanochite clan; for Pal u, thePal uite clan;	5 Ruben primogenitus Israël : hujus filius, Henoch, a quo familia Henochitarum : et Phallu, a quo familia Phalluitarum :
6 for Hezron, the Hezronite clan; for Carmi, the Carmite clan.	6 et Hesron, a quo familia Hesronitarum : et Charmi, a quo familia Charmitarum.
7 These were the Reubenite clans. They numbered forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty men.	7 Hæ sunt familiæ de stirpe Ruben : quarum numerus inventus est quadraginta tria millia, et septingenti triginta.
8 The sons of Pallu: Eliab.	8 Filius Phallu, Eliab :
9 The sons of Eliab: Nemuel, Dathan and Abiram. These two, Dathan and Abiram, men of repute in thecommunity, were the ones who revolted against Moses and Aaron; they belonged to Korah's group when itrevolted against Yahweh.	9 hujus filii, Namuel et Dathan et Abiron : isti sunt Dathan et Abiron principes populi, qui surrexerunt contra Moysen et Aaron in seditione Core, quando adversus Dominum rebellaverunt :
10 The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them (with Korah when that group perished), when fireconsumed the two hundred and fifty men. They were a sign.	10 et aperiens terra os suum devoravit Core, morientibus plurimis, quando combussit ignis ducentos quinquaginta viros. Et factum est grande miraculum,
11 Korah's sons, however, did not perish.	11 ut, Core pereunte, filii illius non perirent.
12 The sons of Simeon by clans: for Nemuel, the Nemuelite clan; for Jamin, the Jaminite clan; forJachin, the Jachinite clan;	12 Filii Simeon per cognationes suas : Namuel, ab hoc familia Namuelitarum : Jamin, ab hoc familia Jaminitarum : Jachin, ab hoc familia Jachinitarum :
13 for Zerah, the Zerahite clan; for Shaul, the Shaulite clan.	13 Zare, ab hoc familia Zareitarum : Saul, ab hoc familia Saulitarum.

18 These were the clans of the sons of Gad. They numbered forty thousand five hundred men.	18 Istæ sunt familiæ Gad, quarum omnis numerus fuit quadraginta millia quingenti.
19 The sons of Judah: Er and Onan. Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan.	19 Filii Juda, Her et Onan, qui ambo mortui sunt in terra Chanaan.
20 The other sons of Judah became clans: for Shelah, the Shelahite clan; for Perez, the Perezzite clan;for Zerah, the Zerahite clan.	20 Fueruntque filii Juda per cognationes suas : Sela, a quo familia Selaitarum : Phares, a quo familia Pharesitarum : Zare, a quo familia Zareitarum.
21 The sons of Perez were: for Hezron, the Hezronite clan; for Hamul, the Hamulite clan.	21 Porro filii Phares : Hesron, a quo familia Hesronitarum : et Hamul, a quo familia Hamulitarum.

23 The sons of Issachar by clans: for Tola, the Tolaite clan; for Puvah, the Puvahite clan;	23 Filii Issachar per cognationes suas : Thola, a quo familia Tholaitarum : Phua, a quo familia Phuaitarum :
24 for Jashub, the Jashubite clan; for Shimron, the Shimronite clan.	24 Jasub, a quo familia Jasubitarum : Semran, a quo familia Semranitarum.
25 These were the clans of Issachar. They numbered sixty-four thousand three hundred men.	25 Hæ sunt cognationes Issachar, quarum numerus fuit sexaginta quatuor millia trecenti.
26 The sons of Zebulun by clans: for Sered, the Seredite clan; for Elon, the Elonite clan; for Jahleel, theJahleelite clan.	26 Filii Zabulon per cognationes suas : Sared, a quo familia Sareditarum : Elon, a quo familia Elonitarum : Jalel, a quo familia Jalelitarum.
27 These were the clans of Zebulun. They numbered sixty thousand five hundred men.	27 Hæ sunt cognationes Zabulon, quarum numerus fuit sexaginta millia quingenti.
28 The sons of Joseph by clans: Manasseh and Ephraim.	28 Filii Joseph per cognationes suas, Manasse et Ephraim.
29 The sons of Manasseh: for Machir, the Machirite clan; Machir fathered Gilead: for Gilead, theGileadite clan.	29 De Manasse ortus est Machir, a quo familia Machiritarum. Machir genuit Galaad, a quo familia Galaaditarum.

32 Shemida, the Shemidaite clan; Hepher, the Hepherite clan.	32 et Semida, a quo familia Semidaitarum : et Hepher, a quo familia Hepheritarum.
33 Zelophehad son of Hepher had no sons, only daughters; the names of Zelophehad's daughterswere Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.	33 Fuit autem Hepher pater Salphaad, qui filios non habebat, sed tantum filias : quarum ista sunt nomina : Maala, et Noa, et Hegla, et Melcha, et Thersa.

35 These were the sons of Ephraim by clans: for Shuthelah, the Shuthelahite clan; for Becher, theBecherite clan; for Tahan, the Tahanite clan.	35 Filii autem Ephraim per cognationes suas fuerunt hi : Suthala, a quo familia Suthalaitarum : Becher, a quo familia Becheritarum : Thehen, a quo familia Thehenitarum.
36 These were the sons of Shuthelah: for Eran, the Eranite clan.	36 Porro filius Suthala fuit Heran, a quo familia Heranitarum.
37 These were the clans of Ephraim. They numbered thirty-two thousand five hundred men. Thesewere the sons of Joseph by clans.	37 Hæ sunt cognationes filiorum Ephraim : quarum numerus fuit triginta duo millia quingenti.
38 The sons of Benjamin by clans: for Bela, the Belaite clan; for Ashbel, the Ashbelite clan; for Ahiram,the Ahiramite clan;	38 Isti sunt filii Joseph per familias suas. 40 Bela's sons were Ard and Naaman; for Ard, the Ardite clan; for Naaman, the Naamanite clan.	40 Filii Bela : Hered, et Noëman. De Hered, familia Hereditarum : de Noëman, familia Noëmanitarum.
41 These were the sons of Benjamin by clans. They numbered forty-five thousand six hundred men.	41 Hi sunt filii Benjamin per cognationes suas : quorum numerus fuit quadraginta quinque millia sexcenti.
42 These were the sons of Dan by clans: for Shuham, the Shuhamite clan. These were the sons of Danby clans.	42 Filii Dan per cognationes suas : Suham, a quo familia Suhamitarum. Hæ sunt cognationes Dan per familias suas.
43 All the Shuhamite clans numbered sixty-four thousand four hundred men.	43 Omnes fuere Suhamitæ, quorum numerus erat sexaginta quatuor millia quadringenti.
44 The sons of Asher by clans: for Imnah, the Imnahite clan; for Ishvi, the Ishvihite clan; for Beriah, theBeriahite clan.	44 Filii Aser per cognationes suas : Jemna, a quo familia Jemnaitarum : Jessui, a quo familia Jessuitarum : Brie, a quo familia Brieitarum.
45 For the sons of Beriah: for Heber, the Heberite clan; for Malchiel, the Malchielite clan.	45 Filii Brie : Heber, a quo familia Heberitarum : et Melchiel, a quo familia Melchielitarum.
46 The daughter of Asher was called Serah.	46 Nomen autem filiæ Aser fuit Sara.
47 These were the clans of Asher. They numbered fifty-three thousand four hundred men.	47 Hæ cognationes filiorum Aser, et numerus eorum quinquaginta tria millia quadringenti.
48 The sons of Naphtali by clans: for Jahzeel, the Jahzeelite clan; for Guni, the Gunite clan;	48 Filii Nephthali per cognationes suas : Jesiel, a quo familia Jesielitarum : Guni, a quo familia Gunitarum :
49 for Jezer, the Jezerite clan; for Shil em, the Shil emite clan.	49 Jeser, a quo familia Jeseritarum : Sellem, a quo familia Sellemitarum.
50 These were the clans of Naphtali as divided into clans. The sons of Naphtali numbered forty-fivethousand four hundred men.	50 Hæ sunt cognationes filiorum Nephthali per familias suas : quorum numerus quadraginta quinque millia quadringenti.
51 Of the Israelites thus numbered, there were six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirtymen.	51 Ista est summa filiorum Israël, qui recensiti sunt, sexcenta millia, et mille septingenti triginta.
52 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said,	52 Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen, dicens :
53 'The country must be shared out among these as a heritage, proportionately to the number of thoseinscribed.	53 Istis dividetur terra juxta numerum vocabulorum in possessiones suas.
54 To the large in number you wil give a large area of land, to the smal in number a small area; toeach the heritage wil be in proportion to the number registered.	54 Pluribus majorem partem dabis, et paucioribus minorem : singulis, sicut nunc recensiti sunt, tradetur possessio :
55 The sharing out of the country must, however, be done by lot. Each wil receive a heritageproportionate to the number of names in their patriarchal tribes;	55 ita dumtaxat ut sors terram tribubus dividat et familiis.
56 the heritage of each tribe wil be shared out by lot, depending on its larger or smal er numbers.'	56 Quidquid sorte contigerit, hoc vel plures accipiant, vel pauciores.
57 These, by clans, are the Levites that were registered: for Gershon, the Gershonite clan; for Kohath,the Kohathite clan; for Merari, the Merarite clan.	57 Hic quoque est numerus filiorum Levi per familias suas : Gerson, a quo familia Gersonitarum : Caath, a quo familia Caathitarum : Merari, a quo familia Meraritarum.
58 These are the Levite clans: the Libnite clan, the Hebronite clan, the Mahlite clan, the Mushite clan,the Korahite clan. Kohath fathered Amram.	58 Hæ sunt familiæ Levi : familia Lobni, familia Hebroni, familia Moholi, familia Musi, familia Core. At vero Caath genuit Amram :
59 Amram's wife was cal ed Jokebed daughter of Levi, born to him in Egypt. To Amram she boreAaron, Moses and Miriam their sister.	59 qui habuit uxorem Jochabed filiam Levi, quæ nata est ei in Ægypto. Hæc genuit Amram viro suo filios, Aaron, et Moysen, et Mariam sororem eorum.
60 Aaron fathered Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.	60 De Aaron orti sunt Nadab et Abiu, et Eleazar et Ithamar :
61 Nadab and Abihu died when they brought unauthorised fire before Yahweh.	61 quorum Nadab et Abiu mortui sunt, cum obtulissent ignem alienum coram Domino.
62 Altogether twenty-three thousand males of one month and over were registered. They were notregistered with the Israelites, since they were given no heritage with the Israelites.	62 Fueruntque omnes qui numerati sunt, viginti tria millia generis masculini ab uno mense et supra : quia non sunt recensiti inter filios Israël, nec eis cum ceteris data possessio est.
63 Such were the men registered by Moses and the priest Eleazar who took a census of the Israeliteson the Plains of Moab near the Jordan by Jericho.	63 Hic est numerus filiorum Israël, qui descripti sunt a Moyse et Eleazaro sacerdote, in campestribus Moab supra Jordanem contra Jericho :
64 Not one of them was among those whom Moses and the priest Aaron had registered when theycounted the Israelites in the desert of Sinai;	64 inter quos, nullus fuit eorum qui ante numerati sunt a Moyse et Aaron in deserto Sinai :
65 for Yahweh had told them that these were to die in the desert and that none of them would be leftexcept Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.	65 prædixerat enim Dominus quod omnes morerentur in solitudine. Nullusque remansit ex eis, nisi Caleb filius Jephone, et Josue filius Nun.
