1 After this plague, Yahweh spoke to Moses and to the priest Eleazar son of Aaron and said:	1 ויהי אחרי המגפה ויאמר יהוה אל משה ואל אלעזר בן אהרן הכהן לאמר
2 'Take a census of the whole community of Israelites, by families: al those of twenty years and over, fitto bear arms in Israel.'	2 שאו את ראש כל עדת בני ישראל מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה לבית אבתם כל יצא צבא בישראל
3 So Moses and the priest Eleazar took a census of them on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan byJericho. They counted	3 וידבר משה ואלעזר הכהן אתם בערבת מואב על ירדן ירחו לאמר
4 (as Yahweh had ordered Moses and the Israelites after leaving Egypt) men of twenty years and over:	4 מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה כאשר צוה יהוה את משה ובני ישראל היצאים מארץ מצרים
5 Reuben, the first-born of Israel. The sons of Reuben: for Hanoch, the Hanochite clan; for Pal u, thePal uite clan;	5 ראובן בכור ישראל בני ראובן חנוך משפחת החנכי לפלוא משפחת הפלאי
6 for Hezron, the Hezronite clan; for Carmi, the Carmite clan.	6 לחצרן משפחת החצרוני לכרמי משפחת הכרמי
7 These were the Reubenite clans. They numbered forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty men.	7 אלה משפחת הראובני ויהיו פקדיהם שלשה וארבעים אלף ושבע מאות ושלשים
8 The sons of Pallu: Eliab.	8 ובני פלוא אליאב
9 The sons of Eliab: Nemuel, Dathan and Abiram. These two, Dathan and Abiram, men of repute in thecommunity, were the ones who revolted against Moses and Aaron; they belonged to Korah's group when itrevolted against Yahweh.	9 ובני אליאב נמואל ודתן ואבירם הוא דתן ואבירם קרואי העדה אשר הצו על משה ועל אהרן בעדת קרח בהצתם על יהוה
10 The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them (with Korah when that group perished), when fireconsumed the two hundred and fifty men. They were a sign.	10 ותפתח הארץ את פיה ותבלע אתם ואת קרח במות העדה באכל האש את חמשים ומאתים איש ויהיו לנס
11 Korah's sons, however, did not perish.	11 ובני קרח לא מתו
12 The sons of Simeon by clans: for Nemuel, the Nemuelite clan; for Jamin, the Jaminite clan; forJachin, the Jachinite clan;	12 בני שמעון למשפחתם לנמואל משפחת הנמואלי לימין משפחת הימיני ליכין משפחת היכיני
13 for Zerah, the Zerahite clan; for Shaul, the Shaulite clan.	13 לזרח משפחת הזרחי לשאול משפחת השאולי
14 These were the Simeonite clans. They numbered twenty-two thousand two hundred men.	14 אלה משפחת השמעני שנים ועשרים אלף ומאתים
15 The sons of Gad by clans: for Zephon, the Zephonite clan; for Haggi, the Haggite clan; for Shuni, theShunite clan;	15 בני גד למשפחתם לצפון משפחת הצפוני לחגי משפחת החגי לשוני משפחת השוני
16 for Ozni, the Oznite clan; for Eri, the Erite clan;	16 לאזני משפחת האזני לערי משפחת הערי
17 for Arod, the Arodite clan; for Areli, the Arelite clan.	17 לארוד משפחת הארודי לאראלי משפחת האראלי
18 These were the clans of the sons of Gad. They numbered forty thousand five hundred men.	18 אלה משפחת בני גד לפקדיהם ארבעים אלף וחמש מאות
19 The sons of Judah: Er and Onan. Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan.	19 בני יהודה ער ואונן וימת ער ואונן בארץ כנען
20 The other sons of Judah became clans: for Shelah, the Shelahite clan; for Perez, the Perezzite clan;for Zerah, the Zerahite clan.	20 ויהיו בני יהודה למשפחתם לשלה משפחת השלני לפרץ משפחת הפרצי לזרח משפחת הזרחי
21 The sons of Perez were: for Hezron, the Hezronite clan; for Hamul, the Hamulite clan.	21 ויהיו בני פרץ לחצרן משפחת החצרני לחמול משפחת החמולי
22 These were the clans of Judah. They numbered seventy-six thousand five hundred men.	22 אלה משפחת יהודה לפקדיהם ששה ושבעים אלף וחמש מאות
23 The sons of Issachar by clans: for Tola, the Tolaite clan; for Puvah, the Puvahite clan;	23 בני יששכר למשפחתם תולע משפחת התולעי לפוה משפחת הפוני
24 for Jashub, the Jashubite clan; for Shimron, the Shimronite clan.	24 לישוב משפחת הישובי לשמרן משפחת השמרני
25 These were the clans of Issachar. They numbered sixty-four thousand three hundred men.	25 אלה משפחת יששכר לפקדיהם ארבעה וששים אלף ושלש מאות
26 The sons of Zebulun by clans: for Sered, the Seredite clan; for Elon, the Elonite clan; for Jahleel, theJahleelite clan.	26 בני זבולן למשפחתם לסרד משפחת הסרדי לאלון משפחת האלני ליחלאל משפחת היחלאלי
27 These were the clans of Zebulun. They numbered sixty thousand five hundred men.	27 אלה משפחת הזבולני לפקדיהם ששים אלף וחמש מאות
28 The sons of Joseph by clans: Manasseh and Ephraim.	28 בני יוסף למשפחתם מנשה ואפרים
29 The sons of Manasseh: for Machir, the Machirite clan; Machir fathered Gilead: for Gilead, theGileadite clan.	29 בני מנשה למכיר משפחת המכירי ומכיר הוליד את גלעד לגלעד משפחת הגלעדי
30 These were the sons of Gilead: for Iezer, the Iezerite clan; for Helek, the Helekite clan;	30 אלה בני גלעד איעזר משפחת האיעזרי לחלק משפחת החלקי
31 Asriel, the Asrielite clan; Shechem, the Shechemite clan;	31 ואשריאל משפחת האשראלי ושכם משפחת השכמי
32 Shemida, the Shemidaite clan; Hepher, the Hepherite clan.	32 ושמידע משפחת השמידעי וחפר משפחת החפרי
33 Zelophehad son of Hepher had no sons, only daughters; the names of Zelophehad's daughterswere Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.	33 וצלפחד בן חפר לא היו לו בנים כי אם בנות ושם בנות צלפחד מחלה ונעה חגלה מלכה ותרצה
34 These were the clans of Manasseh. They numbered fifty-two thousand seven hundred men.	34 אלה משפחת מנשה ופקדיהם שנים וחמשים אלף ושבע מאות
35 These were the sons of Ephraim by clans: for Shuthelah, the Shuthelahite clan; for Becher, theBecherite clan; for Tahan, the Tahanite clan.	35 אלה בני אפרים למשפחתם לשותלח משפחת השתלחי לבכר משפחת הבכרי לתחן משפחת התחני
36 These were the sons of Shuthelah: for Eran, the Eranite clan.	36 ואלה בני שותלח לערן משפחת הערני
37 These were the clans of Ephraim. They numbered thirty-two thousand five hundred men. Thesewere the sons of Joseph by clans.	37 אלה משפחת בני אפרים לפקדיהם שנים ושלשים אלף וחמש מאות אלה בני יוסף למשפחתם
38 The sons of Benjamin by clans: for Bela, the Belaite clan; for Ashbel, the Ashbelite clan; for Ahiram,the Ahiramite clan;	38 בני בנימן למשפחתם לבלע משפחת הבלעי לאשבל משפחת האשבלי לאחירם משפחת האחירמי
39 for Shephupham, the Shephuphamite clan; for Hupham, the Huphamite clan.	39 לשפופם משפחת השופמי לחופם משפחת החופמי
40 Bela's sons were Ard and Naaman; for Ard, the Ardite clan; for Naaman, the Naamanite clan.	40 ויהיו בני בלע ארד ונעמן משפחת הארדי לנעמן משפחת הנעמי
41 These were the sons of Benjamin by clans. They numbered forty-five thousand six hundred men.	41 אלה בני בנימן למשפחתם ופקדיהם חמשה וארבעים אלף ושש מאות
42 These were the sons of Dan by clans: for Shuham, the Shuhamite clan. These were the sons of Danby clans.	42 אלה בני דן למשפחתם לשוחם משפחת השוחמי אלה משפחת דן למשפחתם
43 All the Shuhamite clans numbered sixty-four thousand four hundred men.	43 כל משפחת השוחמי לפקדיהם ארבעה וששים אלף וארבע מאות
44 The sons of Asher by clans: for Imnah, the Imnahite clan; for Ishvi, the Ishvihite clan; for Beriah, theBeriahite clan.	44 בני אשר למשפחתם לימנה משפחת הימנה לישוי משפחת הישוי לבריעה משפחת הבריעי
45 For the sons of Beriah: for Heber, the Heberite clan; for Malchiel, the Malchielite clan.	45 לבני בריעה לחבר משפחת החברי למלכיאל משפחת המלכיאלי
46 The daughter of Asher was called Serah.	46 ושם בת אשר שרח
47 These were the clans of Asher. They numbered fifty-three thousand four hundred men.	47 אלה משפחת בני אשר לפקדיהם שלשה וחמשים אלף וארבע מאות
48 The sons of Naphtali by clans: for Jahzeel, the Jahzeelite clan; for Guni, the Gunite clan;	48 בני נפתלי למשפחתם ליחצאל משפחת היחצאלי לגוני משפחת הגוני
49 for Jezer, the Jezerite clan; for Shil em, the Shil emite clan.	49 ליצר משפחת היצרי לשלם משפחת השלמי
50 These were the clans of Naphtali as divided into clans. The sons of Naphtali numbered forty-fivethousand four hundred men.	50 אלה משפחת נפתלי למשפחתם ופקדיהם חמשה וארבעים אלף וארבע מאות
51 Of the Israelites thus numbered, there were six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirtymen.	51 אלה פקודי בני ישראל שש מאות אלף ואלף שבע מאות ושלשים
52 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said,	52 וידבר יהוה אל משה לאמר
53 'The country must be shared out among these as a heritage, proportionately to the number of thoseinscribed.	53 לאלה תחלק הארץ בנחלה במספר שמות
54 To the large in number you wil give a large area of land, to the smal in number a small area; toeach the heritage wil be in proportion to the number registered.	54 לרב תרבה נחלתו ולמעט תמעיט נחלתו איש לפי פקדיו יתן נחלתו
55 The sharing out of the country must, however, be done by lot. Each wil receive a heritageproportionate to the number of names in their patriarchal tribes;	55 אך בגורל יחלק את הארץ לשמות מטות אבתם ינחלו
56 the heritage of each tribe wil be shared out by lot, depending on its larger or smal er numbers.'	56 על פי הגורל תחלק נחלתו בין רב למעט
57 These, by clans, are the Levites that were registered: for Gershon, the Gershonite clan; for Kohath,the Kohathite clan; for Merari, the Merarite clan.	57 ואלה פקודי הלוי למשפחתם לגרשון משפחת הגרשני לקהת משפחת הקהתי למררי משפחת המררי
58 These are the Levite clans: the Libnite clan, the Hebronite clan, the Mahlite clan, the Mushite clan,the Korahite clan. Kohath fathered Amram.	58 אלה משפחת לוי משפחת הלבני משפחת החברני משפחת המחלי משפחת המושי משפחת הקרחי וקהת הולד את עמרם
59 Amram's wife was cal ed Jokebed daughter of Levi, born to him in Egypt. To Amram she boreAaron, Moses and Miriam their sister.	59 ושם אשת עמרם יוכבד בת לוי אשר ילדה אתה ללוי במצרים ותלד לעמרם את אהרן ואת משה ואת מרים אחתם
60 Aaron fathered Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.	60 ויולד לאהרן את נדב ואת אביהוא את אלעזר ואת איתמר
61 Nadab and Abihu died when they brought unauthorised fire before Yahweh.	61 וימת נדב ואביהוא בהקריבם אש זרה לפני יהוה
62 Altogether twenty-three thousand males of one month and over were registered. They were notregistered with the Israelites, since they were given no heritage with the Israelites.	62 ויהיו פקדיהם שלשה ועשרים אלף כל זכר מבן חדש ומעלה כי לא התפקדו בתוך בני ישראל כי לא נתן להם נחלה בתוך בני ישראל
63 Such were the men registered by Moses and the priest Eleazar who took a census of the Israeliteson the Plains of Moab near the Jordan by Jericho.	63 אלה פקודי משה ואלעזר הכהן אשר פקדו את בני ישראל בערבת מואב על ירדן ירחו
64 Not one of them was among those whom Moses and the priest Aaron had registered when theycounted the Israelites in the desert of Sinai;	64 ובאלה לא היה איש מפקודי משה ואהרן הכהן אשר פקדו את בני ישראל במדבר סיני
65 for Yahweh had told them that these were to die in the desert and that none of them would be leftexcept Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.	65 כי אמר יהוה להם מות ימתו במדבר ולא נותר מהם איש כי אם כלב בן יפנה ויהושע בן נון
