Ezekiel 24

1 In the ninth year, on the tenth day of the tenth month, the word of Yahweh was addressed to me asfol ows,	1 וַיְהִי דְבַר־יְהוָה אֵלַי בַּשָּׁנָה הַתְּשִׁיעִית בַּחֹדֶשׁ הָעֲשִׂירִי בֶּעָשֹׂור לַחֹדֶשׁ לֵאמֹר
2 'Son of man, write down today's date, yes, today's, for this very day the king of Babylon began hisattack on Jerusalem.	2 בֶּן־אָדָם [כְּתֹוב־ כ] (כְּתָב־לְךָ ק) אֶת־שֵׁם הַיֹּום אֶת־עֶצֶם הַיֹּום הַזֶּה סָמַךְ מֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶל אֶל־יְרוּשָׁלִַם בְּעֶצֶם הַיֹּום הַזֶּה
3 So pronounce a parable for this tribe of rebels. Say, "The Lord Yahweh says this: Put the pot on thefire; put it on; pour the water in!	3 וּמְשֹׁל אֶל־בֵּית־הַמֶּרִי מָשָׁל וְאָמַרְתָּ אֲלֵיהֶם כֹּה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה שְׁפֹת הַסִּיר שְׁפֹת וְגַם־יְצֹק בֹּו מָיִם
4 Now put the cuts of meat al in together, al the best cuts, leg and shoulder. Fill it with the best bones.	4 אֱסֹף נְתָחֶיהָ אֵלֶיהָ כָּל־נֵתַח טֹוב יָרֵךְ וְכָתֵף מִבְחַר עֲצָמִים מַלֵּא
5 Take the best of the flock, then heap wood underneath; boil it thoroughly until even the bones arecooked.	5 מִבְחַר הַצֹּאן לָקֹוחַ וְגַם דּוּר הָעֲצָמִים תַּחְתֶּיהָ רַתַּח רְתָחֶיהָ גַּם־בָּשְׁלוּ עֲצָמֶיהָ בְּתֹוכָהּ׃ ס
6 "For the Lord Yahweh says this: Disaster is in store for the bloody city, for that rusty cooking pot whose rust wil not come off! Empty it, bit by bit, not bothering to draw lots;	6 לָכֵן כֹּה־אָמַר ׀ אֲדֹנָי יְהֹוִה אֹוי עִיר הַדָּמִים סִיר אֲשֶׁר חֶלְאָתָה בָהּ וְחֶלְאָתָהּ לֹא יָצְאָה מִמֶּנָּה לִנְתָחֶיהָ לִנְתָחֶיהָ הֹוצִיאָהּ לֹא־נָפַל עָלֶיהָ גֹּורָל
7 for she is stil ful of bloodshed, she has put blood on the naked rock; she did not pour it on the groundso as to cover it with dust.	7 כִּי דָמָהּ בְּתֹוכָהּ הָיָה עַל־צְחִיחַ סֶלַע שָׂמָתְהוּ לֹא שְׁפָכַתְהוּ עַל־הָאָרֶץ לְכַסֹּות עָלָיו עָפָר
8 To make anger rise, to exact vengeance, I have put her blood on the naked rock, so that it should notbe covered:	8 לְהַעֲלֹות חֵמָה לִנְקֹם נָקָם נָתַתִּי אֶת־דָּמָהּ עַל־צְחִיחַ סָלַע לְבִלְתִּי הִכָּסֹות׃ פ
9 "So, the Lord Yahweh says this: Disaster is in store for the bloody city! I too plan to build a great fire.	9 לָכֵן כֹּה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה אֹוי עִיר הַדָּמִים גַּם־אֲנִי אַגְדִּיל הַמְּדוּרָה
10 Heap on the wood, light it, cook the meat, prepare the seasoning let the bones burn!	10 הַרְבֵּה הָעֵצִים הַדְלֵק הָאֵשׁ הָתֵם הַבָּשָׂר וְהַרְקַח הַמֶּרְקָחָה וְהָעֲצָמֹות יֵחָרוּ
11 Put the empty pot on the coals to make it hot, until the bronze glows, the filth inside melts and therust is burnt away!	11 וְהַעֲמִידֶהָ עַל־גֶּחָלֶיהָ רֵקָה לְמַעַן תֵּחַם וְחָרָה נְחֻשְׁתָּהּ וְנִתְּכָה בְתֹוכָהּ טֻמְאָתָהּ תִּתֻּם חֶלְאָתָהּ
12 "But al that rust would not come off in the fire.	12 תְּאֻנִים הֶלְאָת וְלֹא־תֵצֵא מִמֶּנָּה רַבַּת חֶלְאָתָהּ בְּאֵשׁ חֶלְאָתָהּ
13 Your filth is infamous. Since I have tried to purge you and you would not let yourself be purged ofyour filth, so now you wil never be purged of your filth until I have sated my anger on you.	13 בְּטֻמְאָתֵךְ זִמָּה יַעַן טִהַרְתִּיךְ וְלֹא טָהַרְתְּ מִטֻּמְאָתֵךְ לֹא תִטְהֲרִי־עֹוד עַד־הֲנִיחִי אֶת־חֲמָתִי בָּךְ
14 I, Yahweh, have spoken; this wil happen; I shal act and not relent; I shal show no pity, nocompassion. You will be judged as your conduct and actions deserve -- declares the Lord Yahweh." '	14 אֲנִי יְהוָה דִּבַּרְתִּי בָּאָה וְעָשִׂיתִי לֹא־אֶפְרַע וְלֹא־אָחוּס וְלֹא אֶנָּחֵם כִּדְרָכַיִךְ וְכַעֲלִילֹותַיִךְ שְׁפָטוּךְ נְאֻם אֲדֹנָי יְהֹוִה׃ פ
15 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as fol ows,	15 וַיְהִי דְבַר־יְהוָה אֵלַי לֵאמֹר
16 'Son of man, at a blow I am about to deprive you of the delight of your eyes. But you are not tolament, not to weep, not to let your tears run down.	16 בֶּן־אָדָם הִנְנִי לֹקֵחַ מִמְּךָ אֶת־מַחְמַד עֵינֶיךָ בְּמַגֵּפָה וְלֹא תִסְפֹּד וְלֹא תִבְכֶּה וְלֹוא תָבֹוא דִּמְעָתֶךָ
17 Groan in silence, do not go into mourning for the dead, knot your turban round your head, put yoursandals on your feet, do not cover your beard, do not eat the usual food.'	17 הֵאָנֵק ׀ דֹּם מֵתִים אֵבֶל לֹא־תַעֲשֶׂה פְאֵרְךָ חֲבֹושׁ עָלֶיךָ וּנְעָלֶיךָ תָּשִׂים בְּרַגְלֶיךָ וְלֹא תַעְטֶה עַל־שָׂפָם וְלֶחֶם אֲנָשִׁים לֹא תֹאכֵל
18 I told this to the people in the morning, and my wife died in the evening, and the next morning I did asI had been ordered.	18 וָאֲדַבֵּר אֶל־הָעָם בַּבֹּקֶר וַתָּמָת אִשְׁתִּי בָּעָרֶב וָאַעַשׂ בַּבֹּקֶר כַּאֲשֶׁר צֻוֵּיתִי
19 The people then said to me, 'Will you not explain what meaning these actions have for us?'	19 וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלַי הָעָם הֲלֹא־תַגִּיד לָנוּ מָה־אֵלֶּה לָּנוּ כִּי אַתָּה עֹשֶׂה
20 I replied, 'The word of Yahweh has been addressed to me as fol ows,	20 וָאֹמַר אֲלֵיהֶם דְּבַר־יְהוָה הָיָה אֵלַי לֵאמֹר
21 "Say to the House of Israel, the Lord Yahweh says this: I am about to profane my sanctuary, thepride of your strength, the delight of your eyes, the joy of your hearts. Your sons and daughters whom you haveleft behind wil fall by the sword.	21 אֱמֹר ׀ לְבֵית יִשְׂרָאֵל כֹּה־אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה הִנְנִי מְחַלֵּל אֶת־מִקְדָּשִׁי גְּאֹון עֻזְּכֶם מַחְמַד עֵינֵיכֶם וּמַחְמַל נַפְשְׁכֶם וּבְנֵיכֶם וּבְנֹותֵיכֶם אֲשֶׁר עֲזַבְתֶּם בַּחֶרֶב יִפֹּלוּ
22 Then you wil do as I have done: you wil not cover your beards or eat the usual food;	22 וַעֲשִׂיתֶם כַּאֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתִי עַל־שָׂפָם לֹא תַעְטוּ וְלֶחֶם אֲנָשִׁים לֹא תֹאכֵלוּ
23 you will keep your turbans on your heads and your sandals on your feet; you wil not lament or weepbut will waste away for your crimes, groaning among yourselves.	23 וּפְאֵרֵכֶם עַל־רָאשֵׁיכֶם וְנַעֲלֵיכֶם בְּרַגְלֵיכֶם לֹא תִסְפְּדוּ וְלֹא תִבְכּוּ וּנְמַקֹּתֶם בַּעֲוֹנֹתֵיכֶם וּנְהַמְתֶּם אִישׁ אֶל־אָחִיו
24 Thus Ezekiel is a sign for you. You wil do exactly what he has done. And when this happens, you willknow that I am Lord Yahweh!"	24 וְהָיָה יְחֶזְקֵאל לָכֶם לְמֹופֵת כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂה תַּעֲשׂוּ בְּבֹאָהּ וִידַעְתֶּם כִּי אֲנִי אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה׃ ס
25 'And, son of man, the day that I deprive them of their strength, their crowning joy, the delight of theireyes, the joy of their hearts, their sons and daughters,	25 וְאַתָּה בֶן־אָדָם הֲלֹוא בְּיֹום קַחְתִּי מֵהֶם אֶת־מָעוּזָּם מְשֹׂושׂ תִּפְאַרְתָּם אֶת־מַחְמַד עֵינֵיהֶם וְאֶת־מַשָּׂא נַפְשָׁם בְּנֵיהֶם וּבְנֹותֵיהֶם
26 that day a survivor wil bring you the news.	26 בַּיֹּום הַהוּא יָבֹוא הַפָּלִיט אֵלֶיךָ לְהַשְׁמָעוּת אָזְנָיִם
27 That day your mouth wil be opened to speak to the survivor; you wil speak and no longer be dumb;you wil be a sign for them, and they wil know that I am Yahweh.'	27 בַּיֹּום הַהוּא יִפָּתַח פִּיךָ אֶת־הַפָּלִיט וּתְדַבֵּר וְלֹא תֵאָלֵם עֹוד וְהָיִיתָ לָהֶם לְמֹופֵת וְיָדְעוּ כִּי־אֲנִי יְהוָה׃ ס
