NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Almighty Lord, God of Israel, a soul in anguish, a troubled heart now cries to you:	1 Preghiera del profeta Abacuc,per le ignoranze.
2 Listen and have pity, Lord, for we have sinned before you.	2 Ho sentito, o ­ Signore, il tuo annunzio, e ne ho avuto spavento. Signore, la tua opera è nel mezzo degli anni, fal­la vivere; nel mezzo degli anni tu la farai manifesta, nello sdegno ti ricorderai della misericordia.
3 You sit enthroned for ever, while we are perishing for ever.	3 Iddio verrà dal mezzodì, e il Santo dal monte di Faran. La gloria di lui ha coperto i cieli e del­ e le sue lodi è ripiena la terra.
4 Almighty Lord, God of Israel, hear the prayer of the dead of Israel, of the children of those who havesinned against you and have not listened to the voice of the Lord their God; hence the disasters which dog us.	4 Il ­ suo splendore brillerà come la a luce, le corna sono nelle sue ma­ni, ivi è nascosta la sua possanza.
5 Do not cal to mind the misdeeds of our ancestors, but remember instead your power and your name.	5 Davanti alla sua faccia andrà la morte e il diavolo uscirà davanti ai suoi piedi.
6 You are indeed the Lord our God and we wil praise you, Lord,	6 Si fermò e mi­surò la terra, guardò e distrusse ­ le nazioni, andarono in pezzi i ­monti dei secoli, si curvarono le colline del mondo per le vie della sua eternità.
7 since you have put respect for you in our hearts to encourage us to cal on your name. We long topraise you in our exile, for we have rid our hearts of the wickedness of our ancestors who sinned against you.	7 Vidi sotto l'iniqui­tà le tende d'Etiopia: saranno in agitazione i padiglioni della ter­ra di Madian.
8 Look, today we are still in exile where you have scattered us as something contemptible, accursed,condemned, for al the misdeeds of our ancestors who had abandoned the Lord our God.	8 Sei dunque adirato contro i fiumi, o Signore, o è contro i fiumi il tuo furore, o contro il mare il tuo sdegno? Tu monterai sui tuoi cavalli e le tue quadrighe saran la salvezza.
9 Listen, Israel, to commands that bring life; hear, and learn what knowledge means.	9 Metterai in ordine e in posizione il tuo arco (secondo) i giuramenti fatti alle tribù: tu dividerai i fiumi della terra.
10 Why, Israel, why are you in the country of your enemies, growing older and older in an alien land,	10 Ti videro i, monti, e tremarono, sparirono le masse di acqua: l'abisso fece sentire la sua voce, il profondo (dell'abisso) levò in alto le mani.
11 defiling yourselves with the dead, reckoned with those who go to Sheol?	11 Il sole e la luna si fermarono nella loro dimora; andranno alla luce delle tue saette, allo splendore della tua lancia folgoreggiante.
12 It is because you have forsaken the fountain of wisdom!	12 Nel fremito conculcherai la ferra, nel furore renderai stupefatte le na­zioni.
13 Had you walked in the way of God, you would be living in peace for ever.	13 Ti movesti per salvare il tuo popolo, per salvarlo col tuo Cristo. Tu percotesti il capo della casa dell'empio, mettendone a nudo i fondamenti sino in fondo.
14 Learn where knowledge is, where strength, where understanding, and so learn where length of days is,where life, where the light of the eyes and where peace.	14 Maledicesti i suoi scettri, il capo dei suoi guerrieri, che venivano qual turbine a distruggermi, emettendo gridi di gioia come chi divora il povero di nascosto.
15 But who has found out where she lives, who has entered her treasure house?	15 Tu nel mare facesti una via pei tuoi cavalli, nel fango delle acque profonde.
16 Where now are the leaders of the nations and those who ruled even the beasts of earth,	16 Ho sentito, e le mie viscere si son commosse, a tal voce tremano i miei labbri. Entri la: putredine nei miei ossi ed esca sotto di me; perchè io abbia riposo; nel giorno della tribolazione, e possa salire al nostro popolo armato»
17 those who sported with the birds of heaven, those who accumulated silver and gold on which alpeople rely, and whose possessions had no end,	17 Infatti il fico non fiorirà, e non vi saran germogli nelle vigne. Il prodotto dell'ulivo ingannerà (l'attesa), e i campi non daranno da mangiare. Saran rapite le pe­core dall'ovile, e nelle stalle non ci saranno armenti.
18 those who worked so carefully in silver -but of whose works no trace is to be found?	18 Ma io mi rallegrerò nel Signore ed esulterò in Dio mio Gesù.
19 They have vanished, gone down to Sheol. Others have risen to their places,	19 Il Signore Diò è la mia forza: Egli farà i miei piedi simili a quelli dei cervi, e mi guiderà per luoghi elevati, vincitore, mentre canto dei salmi.
20 more recent generations have seen the day and peopled the earth in their turn, but the way ofknowledge they have not found;	20 I giovani videro la luce, abitarono sopra la terra; ma non han conosciuta la via della sapienza,
21 they have not recognised the paths she treads. Nor have their children had any grasp of her, remainingfar from her way.	21 non ne han saputi i sentieri. I loro figli non l'han accolta, ed essa è andata lungi da loro.
22 Nothing has been heard of her in Canaan, nothing has been seen of her in Teman;	22 Di lei non si sentì parlare nella terra di Canaan, non fu vista in Teman.
23 the children of Hagar in search of worldly wisdom, the merchants of Midian and Teman, the tale-spinners and the philosophers have none of them found the way to wisdom or remembered the paths shetreads.	23 Anche i figli d'Agar, che cercano la prudenza della terra, e i mercanti di Merra e di Teman e i favoleggiatori e i ricercatori della prudenza e dell'intelligenza, non conobbero la via della sapienza, nè si ricordarono dei suoi sentieri.
24 How great, Israel, is the house of God, how wide his domain,	24 O Israele, quanto è grande la casa di Dio, quanto è vasto il suo dominio!
25 immeasurably wide, infinitely lofty!	25 E' grande, senza confini, eccelso, immenso.
26 In it were born the giants, famous from the beginning, immensely tal , expert in war;	26 Là vissero anticamente quei giganti famosi, d'alta statura e istruiti nella guerra.
27 God's choice did not fall on these, he did not show them the way of knowledge;	27 Il Signore non scelse questi. Essi non trovarono la via della sapienza, e per questo perirono, perchè non ebbero sapienza,
28 they perished for lack of wisdom, perished by their own folly.	28 perirono per la loro stoltezza.
29 Who has ever climbed the sky and seized her to bring her down from the clouds?	29 Chi salì al cielo a prendere la sapienza? Chi la trasse dalle nubi?
30 Who has ever crossed the ocean and found her to bring her back in exchange for the finest gold?	30 Chi la trovò al di là dei mari e la portò a prezzo dell'oro più stimato?
31 No one can learn the way to her, no one can understand the path she treads.	31 Nessuno ne conosce le vie, nessuno ne sa i sentieri.
32 But the One who knows al discovers her, he has grasped her with his own intel ect, he has set theearth firm for evermore and filled it with four-footed beasts,	32 Ma colui che tutto sa la conobbe, la scoprì colla sua prudenza, colui che fondò per l'eternità la terra, e la riempì di animali e di quadrupedi,
33 he sends the light -- and it goes, he recal s it -- and trembling it obeys;	33 colui che spedisce la luce, ed essa parte, la chiama, ed essa tremante obbedisce;
34 the stars shine joyful y at their posts;	34 a cui le stelle brillano al loro posto, piene di letizia,
35 when he cal s them, they answer, 'Here we are'; they shine to delight their Creator.	35 e chiamate rispondono: « Eccoci » e brillano di gioia per colui che le creò.
36 It is he who is our God, no other can compare with him.	36 Egli è il nostro Dio, e nessun altro può a lui paragonarsi.
37 He has uncovered the whole way of knowledge and shown it to his servant Jacob, to Israel his wel -beloved;	37 Egli trovò tutte le vie della sapienza e le insegnò a Giacobbe suo servo, a Israele suo diletto.
38 only then did she appear on earth and live among human beings.	38 Dopo ciò fu visto sopra la terra a conversare cogli uomini.
