NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Almighty Lord, God of Israel, a soul in anguish, a troubled heart now cries to you:	1 - E ora, o Signore Onnipotente, Dio d'Israele, un'anima nelle angustie, uno spirito angosciato grida a te.
2 Listen and have pity, Lord, for we have sinned before you.	2 Ascolta, o Signore, e abbi pietà, perchè sei un Dio misericordioso; abbi compassione di noi che abbiamo peccato contro di te, altrimenti
3 You sit enthroned for ever, while we are perishing for ever.	3 tu resti assiso in sempiterno, e noi saremo perduti per sempre!
4 Almighty Lord, God of Israel, hear the prayer of the dead of Israel, of the children of those who havesinned against you and have not listened to the voice of the Lord their God; hence the disasters which dog us.	4 Signore Onnipotente, Dio d'Israele, ascolta la prece dei morenti d'Israele, e dei figli di coloro che hanno peccato al tuo cospetto, che non diedero retta alla voce del Signore loro Dio, e fecero sì che i mali si attaccassero a noi.
5 Do not cal to mind the misdeeds of our ancestors, but remember instead your power and your name.	5 Non ricordarti delle iniquità dei nostri padri, ma della tua mano e del tuo nome in questo momento;
6 You are indeed the Lord our God and we wil praise you, Lord,	6 perchè tu sei il Signore Dio nostroe noi ti loderemo, o Signore.
7 since you have put respect for you in our hearts to encourage us to cal on your name. We long topraise you in our exile, for we have rid our hearts of the wickedness of our ancestors who sinned against you.	7 Per questo hai messo il tuo timore nei nostri cuori, affinchè invochiamo il tuo nome e ti lodiamo nel nostro esilio, dove tu ci ha dispersi, or che ci ravvediamo dall'iniquità dei nostri padri, che hanno peccato nel tuo cospetto.
8 Look, today we are still in exile where you have scattered us as something contemptible, accursed,condemned, for al the misdeeds of our ancestors who had abandoned the Lord our God.	8 Ecco che noi siamo oggi nel nostro esilioin ischerno e in maledizione e in espiazione, per tutte le iniquità dei nostri padri, che si ritirano da te, Signore Dio nostro. -
9 Listen, Israel, to commands that bring life; hear, and learn what knowledge means.	9 Ascolta, Israele, precetti di vita, porgi gli orecchi per imparar prudenza.
10 Why, Israel, why are you in the country of your enemies, growing older and older in an alien land,	10 Che vuol dire, Israele, che sei sopra un suolo nemico?
11 defiling yourselves with the dead, reckoned with those who go to Sheol?	11 Ti trascini sfinito in terra straniera? già coi piedi che toccano la tomba, già nel numero di quei che scendono nella fossa.
12 It is because you have forsaken the fountain of wisdom!	12 Ah! tu hai abbandonato la sorgente della Sapienza!
13 Had you walked in the way of God, you would be living in peace for ever.	13 Perchè se avessi camminato pel sentiero di Dio, avresti certo abitato in una pace perpetua.
14 Learn where knowledge is, where strength, where understanding, and so learn where length of days is,where life, where the light of the eyes and where peace.	14 Poni mente dov'è la prudenza, dov'è la forza, dov'è l'intelligenza; affinchè capisca anche dove sia la longevità e la vita, dove sia il lume degli occhi e la pace.
15 But who has found out where she lives, who has entered her treasure house?	15 Chi ha scoperto il suo luogo? chi penetrò nei suoi ricettacoli?
16 Where now are the leaders of the nations and those who ruled even the beasts of earth,	16 Dove sono i dominatori delle nazioni, e i dominatori delle bestie che sono sulla terra?
17 those who sported with the birds of heaven, those who accumulated silver and gold on which alpeople rely, and whose possessions had no end,	17 Quei che si fan trastullo degli uccelli del cielo, quei che ammassano argento e oro, in cui pongono lor fiducia gli uominie all'acquistar non trovan fine?
18 those who worked so carefully in silver -but of whose works no trace is to be found?	18 Quei che lavorano l'argento e stanno intentie non si lasciano rintracciare nelle loro opere?
19 They have vanished, gone down to Sheol. Others have risen to their places,	19 Sono spariti, son discesi nel fondo d'una tomba, e al loro posto, sorsero altri.
20 more recent generations have seen the day and peopled the earth in their turn, but the way ofknowledge they have not found;	20 Nuove generazioni sono venute in luce e hanno abitato la terra, ma ignorarono la via della dottrina
21 they have not recognised the paths she treads. Nor have their children had any grasp of her, remainingfar from her way.	21 e non conobbero i suoi sentieri; i loro figli non la raggiunsero, rimase lungi dai loro sguardi.
22 Nothing has been heard of her in Canaan, nothing has been seen of her in Teman;	22 Essa non si fece udire nella terra di Canaan, non si fece vedere in Teman.
23 the children of Hagar in search of worldly wisdom, the merchants of Midian and Teman, the tale-spinners and the philosophers have none of them found the way to wisdom or remembered the paths shetreads.	23 Anche i figli di Agar, ricercatori della prudenza terrena, i mercanti di Merra e di Teman, i favellatori e i ricercatori della prudenza e della dottrina, non conobbero la via della Sapienza, e dei suoi sentieri non fecero menzione.
24 How great, Israel, is the house of God, how wide his domain,	24 O Israele, quanto grande è la Casa di Dio e vasto il luogo dei suoi possedimenti!
25 immeasurably wide, infinitely lofty!	25 È grande e senza limiti, eccelso e immenso.
26 In it were born the giants, famous from the beginning, immensely tal , expert in war;	26 Vi furono i Giganti, quegli esseri famosi, che esistettero da principio, di alta statura, cresciuti all'arte della guerra.
27 God's choice did not fall on these, he did not show them the way of knowledge;	27 Non elesse costoro il Signore, essi non trovarono la via della Sapienzae per questo perirono.
28 they perished for lack of wisdom, perished by their own folly.	28 E perchè non ebbero la Sapienza, perirono a causa della loro insipienza.
29 Who has ever climbed the sky and seized her to bring her down from the clouds?	29 Chi salì in cielo e se ne impossessò, e la trasse giù dalle nuvole?
30 Who has ever crossed the ocean and found her to bring her back in exchange for the finest gold?	30 Chi varcò i mari e la scoperse, e la importò a prezzo d'oro e d'argento?
31 No one can learn the way to her, no one can understand the path she treads.	31 Non c'è chi possa sapere le vie per giungere ad essanè indovinare la sua strada.
32 But the One who knows al discovers her, he has grasped her with his own intel ect, he has set theearth firm for evermore and filled it with four-footed beasts,	32 Ma Colui che tutto sa, la conosce e colla sua prudenza l'ha scoperta, colui che costituì la terra pel durar dei secoli, che la riempì di animali e di quadrupedi;
33 he sends the light -- and it goes, he recal s it -- and trembling it obeys;	33 che manda la luce ed essa va, la richiama e gli obbedisce trepidante.
34 the stars shine joyful y at their posts;	34 Le stelle compaiono ai loro postie brillano liete;
35 when he cal s them, they answer, 'Here we are'; they shine to delight their Creator.	35 rispondono all'appello e dicono: «Presenti!» e risplendono festeggiando chi le ha fatte.
36 It is he who is our God, no other can compare with him.	36 Questi è il Dio nostro e nessun altro gli può stare a paragone.
37 He has uncovered the whole way of knowledge and shown it to his servant Jacob, to Israel his wel -beloved;	37 Questi ha trovato tutte le vie della Sapienza e la diede a Giacobbe suo servo, a Israele suo prediletto.
38 only then did she appear on earth and live among human beings.	38 E dopo questo è comparso sulla terra, e tra gli uomini ha conversato.
