NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Almighty Lord, God of Israel, a soul in anguish, a troubled heart now cries to you:	1 "Signore onnipotente, Dio di Israele, un'anima in angoscia ed uno spirito angustiato grida verso di te.
2 Listen and have pity, Lord, for we have sinned before you.	2 Ascolta, o Signore, e abbi pietà, poiché abbiamo peccato contro di te;
3 You sit enthroned for ever, while we are perishing for ever.	3 perché tu rimani in eterno, mentre noi periamo per sempre.
4 Almighty Lord, God of Israel, hear the prayer of the dead of Israel, of the children of those who havesinned against you and have not listened to the voice of the Lord their God; hence the disasters which dog us.	4 O Signore onnipotente, Dio di Israele, ascolta la preghiera dei morti d'Israele e dei figli di coloro che hanno peccato contro di te, non avendo ascoltato la voce del Signore, Dio loro, per cui i mali si sono attaccati a noi.
5 Do not cal to mind the misdeeds of our ancestors, but remember instead your power and your name.	5 Non ricordare l'ingiustizia dei nostri padri: ricorda, invece, la tua mano e il tuo nome in questo tempo.
6 You are indeed the Lord our God and we wil praise you, Lord,	6 Tu, infatti, sei il Signore, Dio nostro, e noi ti lodiamo, Signore.
7 since you have put respect for you in our hearts to encourage us to cal on your name. We long topraise you in our exile, for we have rid our hearts of the wickedness of our ancestors who sinned against you.	7 Per questo tu hai immesso il tuo timore nel cuore nostro perché possiamo invocare il tuo nome. Ti lodiamo anche nella nostra prigionia, perché abbiamo eliminato dal nostro cuore ogni ingiustizia dei nostri padri che hanno peccato contro di te.
8 Look, today we are still in exile where you have scattered us as something contemptible, accursed,condemned, for al the misdeeds of our ancestors who had abandoned the Lord our God.	8 Eccoci, oggi, nella nostra prigionia, dove, per vergogna, ci hai disperso a maledizione e a condanna per tutte le ingiustizie dei nostri padri i quali si ribellarono contro il Signore, Dio nostro".
9 Listen, Israel, to commands that bring life; hear, and learn what knowledge means.	9 "Ascolta, Israele, i precetti della vita, porgi l'orecchio per conoscere la prudenza.
10 Why, Israel, why are you in the country of your enemies, growing older and older in an alien land,	10 Cosa è accaduto, o Israele, cosa è accaduto per cui ti trovi in terra nemica e invecchi in terra straniera,
11 defiling yourselves with the dead, reckoned with those who go to Sheol?	11 contaminato con i morti e annoverato con quelli degl'inferi?
12 It is because you have forsaken the fountain of wisdom!	12 Hai abbandonato la fonte della sapienza!
13 Had you walked in the way of God, you would be living in peace for ever.	13 Se nella via di Dio avessi camminato, abiteresti in pace per sempre.
14 Learn where knowledge is, where strength, where understanding, and so learn where length of days is,where life, where the light of the eyes and where peace.	14 Impara dov'è la prudenza, dov'è la forza, dov'è l'intelligenza, per comprendere anche dov'è longevità e vita, dov'è luce degli occhi e pace.
15 But who has found out where she lives, who has entered her treasure house?	15 Chi ha scoperto il suo luogo e chi è penetrato nei suoi tesori?
16 Where now are the leaders of the nations and those who ruled even the beasts of earth,	16 Dove sono i prìncipi delle genti e i domatori delle belve che sono sulla terra?
17 those who sported with the birds of heaven, those who accumulated silver and gold on which alpeople rely, and whose possessions had no end,	17 Quelli che giocano con gli uccelli del cielo, quelli che accumulano argento e oro, in cui gli uomini confidano, non ponendo un limite al loro possesso?
18 those who worked so carefully in silver -but of whose works no trace is to be found?	18 Quelli che con cura lavorano l'argento, delle cui opere non si scopre il segreto?
19 They have vanished, gone down to Sheol. Others have risen to their places,	19 Sono scomparsi e discesi negl'inferi, mentre altri sono sorti al loro posto.
20 more recent generations have seen the day and peopled the earth in their turn, but the way ofknowledge they have not found;	20 Nuovi giovani videro la luce e abitarono la terra; la via della scienza, però, non la conobbero.
21 they have not recognised the paths she treads. Nor have their children had any grasp of her, remainingfar from her way.	21 Non compresero i suoi sentieri né la raggiunsero; i loro figli sono rimasti lontano dalla loro via.
22 Nothing has been heard of her in Canaan, nothing has been seen of her in Teman;	22 Non se ne ebbe notizia in Canaan, né fu in Teman.
23 the children of Hagar in search of worldly wisdom, the merchants of Midian and Teman, the tale-spinners and the philosophers have none of them found the way to wisdom or remembered the paths shetreads.	23 Neanche i figli di Agar, ricercatori di saggezza sulla terra, i mercanti di Merra e Teman, i narratori di miti e ricercatori di saggezza conobbero la via della sapienza, né si ricordarono dei sentieri suoi.
24 How great, Israel, is the house of God, how wide his domain,	24 O Israele, come è grande la casa di Dio e ampio il luogo del suo possesso!
25 immeasurably wide, infinitely lofty!	25 Grande e senza fine, eccelso e senza misura.
26 In it were born the giants, famous from the beginning, immensely tal , expert in war;	26 Là nacquero i giganti, uomini famosi fin dal principio, di grande statura e addestrati alla guerra.
27 God's choice did not fall on these, he did not show them the way of knowledge;	27 Ma questi non scelse Dio, né diede loro la via della conoscenza;
28 they perished for lack of wisdom, perished by their own folly.	28 perirono perché non ebbero la prudenza, perirono per la loro stoltezza.
29 Who has ever climbed the sky and seized her to bring her down from the clouds?	29 Chi ascese in cielo per prenderla e la condusse giù dalle nubi?
30 Who has ever crossed the ocean and found her to bring her back in exchange for the finest gold?	30 Chi attraversò il mare e la scoprì e l'acquistò con oro raffinato?
31 No one can learn the way to her, no one can understand the path she treads.	31 Non c'è chi conosca la sua via né chi comprenda il suo sentiero.
32 But the One who knows al discovers her, he has grasped her with his own intel ect, he has set theearth firm for evermore and filled it with four-footed beasts,	32 Ma chi tutto sa, la conosce, l'ha trovata con la sua intelligenza, Egli che per sempre ha formato la terra e l'ha riempita di quadrupedi.
33 he sends the light -- and it goes, he recal s it -- and trembling it obeys;	33 Invia la luce ed essa va, la chiama ed essa gli ubbidisce con tremore.
34 the stars shine joyful y at their posts;	34 Gli astri brillano gioiosi nei loro posti.
35 when he cal s them, they answer, 'Here we are'; they shine to delight their Creator.	35 Li chiama ed essi rispondono: "Presente!", e brillano con gioia per il loro Creatore.
36 It is he who is our God, no other can compare with him.	36 Questi è il Dio nostro, nessun altro è a lui paragonabile.
37 He has uncovered the whole way of knowledge and shown it to his servant Jacob, to Israel his wel -beloved;	37 Ha scoperto ogni via di conoscenza e l'ha data a Giacobbe suo servo, a Israele suo prediletto.
38 only then did she appear on earth and live among human beings.	38 Per questo sulla terra è apparsa la sapienza e con gli uomini ha conversato!
