NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Almighty Lord, God of Israel, a soul in anguish, a troubled heart now cries to you:	1 Signore onnipotente, Dio d’Israele, un’anima nell’angoscia, uno spirito tormentato grida verso di te.
2 Listen and have pity, Lord, for we have sinned before you.	2 Ascolta, Signore, abbi pietà, perché abbiamo peccato contro di te.
3 You sit enthroned for ever, while we are perishing for ever.	3 Tu regni per sempre, noi per sempre siamo perduti.
4 Almighty Lord, God of Israel, hear the prayer of the dead of Israel, of the children of those who havesinned against you and have not listened to the voice of the Lord their God; hence the disasters which dog us.	4 Signore onnipotente, Dio d’Israele, ascolta dunque la supplica dei morti d’Israele, dei figli di coloro che hanno peccato contro di te: essi non hanno ascoltato la voce del Signore, loro Dio, e siamo stati attaccati dai mali.
5 Do not cal to mind the misdeeds of our ancestors, but remember instead your power and your name.	5 Non ricordare le ingiustizie dei nostri padri, ma ricòrdati ora della tua potenza e del tuo nome,
6 You are indeed the Lord our God and we wil praise you, Lord,	6 poiché tu sei il Signore, nostro Dio, e noi ti loderemo, Signore.
7 since you have put respect for you in our hearts to encourage us to cal on your name. We long topraise you in our exile, for we have rid our hearts of the wickedness of our ancestors who sinned against you.	7 Per questo tu hai posto il timore di te nei nostri cuori, perché invocassimo il tuo nome. E ti loderemo nel nostro esilio, perché abbiamo allontanato dal nostro cuore tutta l’ingiustizia dei nostri padri, i quali hanno peccato contro di te.
8 Look, today we are still in exile where you have scattered us as something contemptible, accursed,condemned, for al the misdeeds of our ancestors who had abandoned the Lord our God.	8 Eccoci ancora oggi nel nostro esilio, dove tu ci hai disperso, oggetto di obbrobrio, di maledizione e di condanna per tutte le ingiustizie dei nostri padri, che si sono ribellati al Signore, nostro Dio».
9 Listen, Israel, to commands that bring life; hear, and learn what knowledge means.	9 Ascolta, Israele, i comandamenti della vita, porgi l’orecchio per conoscere la prudenza.
10 Why, Israel, why are you in the country of your enemies, growing older and older in an alien land,	10 Perché, Israele? Perché ti trovi in terra nemica e sei diventato vecchio in terra straniera?
11 defiling yourselves with the dead, reckoned with those who go to Sheol?	11 Perché ti sei contaminato con i morti e sei nel numero di quelli che scendono negli inferi?
12 It is because you have forsaken the fountain of wisdom!	12 Tu hai abbandonato la fonte della sapienza!
13 Had you walked in the way of God, you would be living in peace for ever.	13 Se tu avessi camminato nella via di Dio, avresti abitato per sempre nella pace.
14 Learn where knowledge is, where strength, where understanding, and so learn where length of days is,where life, where the light of the eyes and where peace.	14 Impara dov’è la prudenza, dov’è la forza, dov’è l’intelligenza, per comprendere anche dov’è la longevità e la vita, dov’è la luce degli occhi e la pace.
15 But who has found out where she lives, who has entered her treasure house?	15 Ma chi ha scoperto la sua dimora, chi è penetrato nei suoi tesori?
16 Where now are the leaders of the nations and those who ruled even the beasts of earth,	16 Dove sono i capi delle nazioni, quelli che dominano le belve che sono sulla terra?
17 those who sported with the birds of heaven, those who accumulated silver and gold on which alpeople rely, and whose possessions had no end,	17 Coloro che si divertono con gli uccelli del cielo, quelli che ammassano argento e oro, in cui hanno posto fiducia gli uomini, e non c’è un limite ai loro possessi?
18 those who worked so carefully in silver -but of whose works no trace is to be found?	18 Coloro che lavorano l’argento e lo cesellano senza rivelare il segreto dei loro lavori?
19 They have vanished, gone down to Sheol. Others have risen to their places,	19 Sono scomparsi, sono scesi negli inferi e altri hanno preso il loro posto.
20 more recent generations have seen the day and peopled the earth in their turn, but the way ofknowledge they have not found;	20 Generazioni più giovani hanno visto la luce e hanno abitato sopra la terra, ma non hanno conosciuto la via della sapienza,
21 they have not recognised the paths she treads. Nor have their children had any grasp of her, remainingfar from her way.	21 non hanno compreso i suoi sentieri e non si sono occupate di essa; i loro figli si sono allontanati dalla loro via.
22 Nothing has been heard of her in Canaan, nothing has been seen of her in Teman;	22 Non se n’è sentito parlare in Canaan, non si è vista in Teman.
23 the children of Hagar in search of worldly wisdom, the merchants of Midian and Teman, the tale-spinners and the philosophers have none of them found the way to wisdom or remembered the paths shetreads.	23 I figli di Agar, che cercano la sapienza sulla terra, i mercanti di Merra e di Teman, i narratori di favole, i ricercatori dell’intelligenza non hanno conosciuto la via della sapienza, non si sono ricordati dei suoi sentieri.
24 How great, Israel, is the house of God, how wide his domain,	24 O Israele, quanto è grande la casa di Dio, quanto è esteso il luogo del suo dominio!
25 immeasurably wide, infinitely lofty!	25 È grande e non ha fine, è alto e non ha misura!
26 In it were born the giants, famous from the beginning, immensely tal , expert in war;	26 Là nacquero i famosi giganti dei tempi antichi, alti di statura, esperti nella guerra;
27 God's choice did not fall on these, he did not show them the way of knowledge;	27 ma Dio non scelse costoro e non diede loro la via della sapienza:
28 they perished for lack of wisdom, perished by their own folly.	28 perirono perché non ebbero saggezza, perirono per la loro indolenza.
29 Who has ever climbed the sky and seized her to bring her down from the clouds?	29 Chi è salito al cielo e l’ha presa e l’ha fatta scendere dalle nubi?
30 Who has ever crossed the ocean and found her to bring her back in exchange for the finest gold?	30 Chi ha attraversato il mare e l’ha trovata e l’ha comprata a prezzo d’oro puro?
31 No one can learn the way to her, no one can understand the path she treads.	31 Nessuno conosce la sua via, nessuno prende a cuore il suo sentiero.
32 But the One who knows al discovers her, he has grasped her with his own intel ect, he has set theearth firm for evermore and filled it with four-footed beasts,	32 Ma colui che sa tutto, la conosce e l’ha scrutata con la sua intelligenza, colui che ha formato la terra per sempre e l’ha riempita di quadrupedi,
33 he sends the light -- and it goes, he recal s it -- and trembling it obeys;	33 colui che manda la luce ed essa corre, l’ha chiamata, ed essa gli ha obbedito con tremore.
34 the stars shine joyful y at their posts;	34 Le stelle hanno brillato nei loro posti di guardia e hanno gioito;
35 when he cal s them, they answer, 'Here we are'; they shine to delight their Creator.	35 egli le ha chiamate ed hanno risposto: «Eccoci!», e hanno brillato di gioia per colui che le ha create.
36 It is he who is our God, no other can compare with him.	36 Egli è il nostro Dio, e nessun altro può essere confrontato con lui.
37 He has uncovered the whole way of knowledge and shown it to his servant Jacob, to Israel his wel -beloved;	37 Egli ha scoperto ogni via della sapienza e l’ha data a Giacobbe, suo servo, a Israele, suo amato.
38 only then did she appear on earth and live among human beings.	38 Per questo è apparsa sulla terra e ha vissuto fra gli uomini.
