NEW JERUSALEMVULGATA
Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:1 Et locutus est Dominus ad Moysen, dicens :
'Order the Israelites to bring you crushed-olive oil for the lamp-stand, and keep a flame burning therecontinual y.2 Præcipe filiis Israël, ut afferant tibi oleum de olivis purissimum, ac lucidum, ad concinnandas lucernas jugiter,
Aaron wil keep it permanently in trim from evening to morning, outside the curtain of the Testimony inthe Tent of Meeting, before Yahweh. This is a perpetual decree for your descendants:3 extra velum testimonii in tabernaculo fœderis. Ponetque eas Aaron a vespere usque ad mane coram Domino, cultu rituque perpetuo in generationibus vestris.
Aaron wil keep the lamps permanently trimmed on the pure lamp-stand before Yahweh.4 Super candelabrum mundissimum ponentur semper in conspectu Domini.
'You will take wheaten flour and with it bake twelve loaves, each of two-tenths of an ephah.5 Accipies quoque similam, et coques ex ea duodecim panes, qui singuli habebunt duas decimas :
You will then place them in two rows of six on the pure table before Yahweh6 quorum senos altrinsecus super mensam purissimam coram Domino statues :
and put pure incense on each row, to make it food offered as a memorial, food burnt for Yahweh.7 et pones super eos thus lucidissimum, ut sit panis in monimentum oblationis Domini.
Every Sabbath they wil be arranged before Yahweh. The Israelites wil provide them as a permanentcovenant.8 Per singula sabbata mutabuntur coram Domino suscepti a filiis Israël fœdere sempiterno :
They wil belong to Aaron and his sons, who wil eat them inside the holy place since, for him, they arean especial y holy part of the food burnt for Yahweh. This is a permanent law.'9 eruntque Aaron et filiorum ejus, ut comedant eos in loco sancto : quia Sanctum sanctorum est de sacrificiis Domini jure perpetuo.
There was a man whose mother was an Israelite woman and whose father was an Egyptian. Hecame out of his house and, in the camp, surrounded by the Israelites, he began to quarrel with a man who wasan Israelite.10 Ecce autem egressus filius mulieris Israëlitidis, quem pepererat de viro ægyptio inter filios Israël, jurgatus est in castris cum viro Israëlita.
Now the son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name and cursed it. He was then taken toMoses (his mother's name was Shelomith daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan).11 Cumque blasphemasset nomen, et maledixisset ei, adductus est ad Moysen. (Vocabatur autem mater ejus Salumith, filia Dabri de tribu Dan.)
He was then put under guard until Yahweh's will should be made clear to them.12 Miseruntque eum in carcerem, donec nossent quid juberet Dominus.
Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:13 Qui locutus est ad Moysen,
'Take the man who pronounced the curse outside the camp. Al those who heard him must then laytheir hands on his head, and the whole community must then stone him.14 dicens : Educ blasphemum extra castra, et ponant omnes qui audierunt, manus suas super caput ejus, et lapidet eum populus universus.
Then say to the Israelites: "Anyone who curses his God will bear the consequences of his sin,15 Et ad filios Israël loqueris : Homo, qui maledixerit Deo suo, portabit peccatum suum ;
and anyone who blasphemes the name of Yahweh wil be put to death; the whole community wilstone him; be he alien or native-born, if he blasphemes the Name, he wil be put to death.16 et qui blasphemaverit nomen Domini, morte moriatur : lapidibus opprimet eum omnis multitudo, sive ille civis, sive peregrinus fuerit. Qui blasphemaverit nomen Domini, morte moriatur.
"Anyone who strikes down any other human being will be put to death.17 Qui percusserit, et occiderit hominem, morte moriatur.
"Anyone who strikes down an animal will make restitution for it: a life for a life.18 Qui percusserit animal, reddet vicarium, id est, animam pro anima.
"Anyone who injures a neighbour shall receive the same in return,19 Qui irrogaverit maculam cuilibet civium suorum, sicut fecit, sic fiet ei :
broken limb for broken limb, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. As the injury inflicted, so will be the injurysuffered.20 fracturam pro fractura, oculum pro oculo, dentem pro dente restituet : qualem inflixerit maculam, talem sustinere cogetur.
Whoever strikes down an animal wil make restitution for it, and whoever strikes down a human beingwil be put to death.21 Qui percusserit jumentum, reddet aliud. Qui percusserit hominem, punietur.
The sentence you pass wil be the same, whether on native-born or on alien; for I am Yahweh yourGod." '22 Æquum judicium sit inter vos, sive peregrinus, sive civis peccaverit : quia ego sum Dominus Deus vester.
Moses having told the Israelites this, they took the man who had pronounced the curse out of thecamp and stoned him. And so the Israelites carried out Yahweh's order to Moses.23 Locutusque est Moyses ad filios Israël : et eduxerunt eum, qui blasphemaverat, extra castra, ac lapidibus oppresserunt. Feceruntque filii Israël sicut præceperat Dominus Moysi.
