NEW JERUSALEMNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:1 The LORD said to Moses,
'Order the Israelites to bring you crushed-olive oil for the lamp-stand, and keep a flame burning therecontinual y.2 "Order the Israelites to bring you clear oil of crushed olives for the light, so that you may keep lamps burning regularly.
Aaron wil keep it permanently in trim from evening to morning, outside the curtain of the Testimony inthe Tent of Meeting, before Yahweh. This is a perpetual decree for your descendants:3 In the meeting tent, outside the veil that hangs in front of the commandments, Aaron shall set up the lamps to burn before the LORD regularly, from evening till morning. Thus, by a perpetual statute for you and your descendants,
Aaron wil keep the lamps permanently trimmed on the pure lamp-stand before Yahweh.4 the lamps shall be set up on the pure gold lampstand, to burn regularly before the LORD.
'You will take wheaten flour and with it bake twelve loaves, each of two-tenths of an ephah.5 "You shall take fine flour and bake it into twelve cakes, using two tenths of an ephah of flour for each cake.
You will then place them in two rows of six on the pure table before Yahweh6 These you shall place in two piles, six in each pile, on the pure gold table before the LORD.
and put pure incense on each row, to make it food offered as a memorial, food burnt for Yahweh.7 On each pile put some pure frankincense, which shall serve as an oblation to the LORD, a token offering for the bread.
Every Sabbath they wil be arranged before Yahweh. The Israelites wil provide them as a permanentcovenant.8 Regularly on each sabbath day this bread shall be set out afresh before the LORD, offered on the part of the Israelites by an everlasting agreement.
They wil belong to Aaron and his sons, who wil eat them inside the holy place since, for him, they arean especial y holy part of the food burnt for Yahweh. This is a permanent law.'9 It shall belong to Aaron and his sons, who must eat it in a sacred place, since, as something most sacred among the various oblations to the LORD, it is his by perpetual right."
There was a man whose mother was an Israelite woman and whose father was an Egyptian. Hecame out of his house and, in the camp, surrounded by the Israelites, he began to quarrel with a man who wasan Israelite.10 Among the Israelites there was a man born of an Israelite mother (Shelomith, daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan) and an Egyptian father.
Now the son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name and cursed it. He was then taken toMoses (his mother's name was Shelomith daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan).11 This man quarreled publicly with another Israelite and cursed and blasphemed the LORD'S name. So the people brought him to Moses,
He was then put under guard until Yahweh's will should be made clear to them.12 who kept him in custody till a decision from the LORD should settle the case for them.
Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:13 The LORD then said to Moses,
'Take the man who pronounced the curse outside the camp. Al those who heard him must then laytheir hands on his head, and the whole community must then stone him.14 "Take the blasphemer outside the camp, and when all who heard him have laid their hands on his head, let the whole community stone him.
Then say to the Israelites: "Anyone who curses his God will bear the consequences of his sin,15 Tell the Israelites: Anyone who curses his God shall bear the penalty of his sin;
and anyone who blasphemes the name of Yahweh wil be put to death; the whole community wilstone him; be he alien or native-born, if he blasphemes the Name, he wil be put to death.16 whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD shall be put to death. The whole community shall stone him; alien and native alike must be put to death for blaspheming the LORD'S name.
"Anyone who strikes down any other human being will be put to death.17 "Whoever takes the life of any human being shall be put to death;
"Anyone who strikes down an animal will make restitution for it: a life for a life.18 whoever takes the life of an animal shall make restitution of another animal. A life for a life!
"Anyone who injures a neighbour shall receive the same in return,19 Anyone who inflicts an injury on his neighbor shall receive the same in return.
broken limb for broken limb, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. As the injury inflicted, so will be the injurysuffered.20 Limb for limb, eye for eye, tooth for tooth! The same injury that a man gives another shall be inflicted on him in return.
Whoever strikes down an animal wil make restitution for it, and whoever strikes down a human beingwil be put to death.21 Whoever slays an animal shall make restitution, but whoever slays a man shall be put to death.
The sentence you pass wil be the same, whether on native-born or on alien; for I am Yahweh yourGod." '22 You shall have but one rule, for alien and native alike. I, the LORD, am your God."
Moses having told the Israelites this, they took the man who had pronounced the curse out of thecamp and stoned him. And so the Israelites carried out Yahweh's order to Moses.23 When Moses told this to the Israelites, they took the blasphemer outside the camp and stoned him; they carried out the command that the LORD had given Moses.
