NEW JERUSALEMDOUAI-RHEIMS
There wil be a king who reigns uprightly and princes who rule with fair judgement;1 Behold a king shall reign in justice, and princes shell rule in judgment.
each will be like a shelter from the wind, a refuge from the storm, like streams on arid ground, like theshade of a solid rock in a desolate land.2 And a man shall be as when one is hid from the wind, and hideth himself from a storm, as rivers of waters in drought, and the shadow of a rock that standeth out in a desert land.
The eyes of seers wil no longer be closed, the ears of hearers wil be alert,3 The eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken diligently.
the heart of the hasty wil learn to think things over, and the tongue of stammerers wil speak promptlyand clearly.4 And the heart of fools shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of stammerers shall speak readily and plain.
The fool wil no longer be cal ed generous, nor the rascal be styled bountiful.5 The fool shall no more be called prince: neither shall the deceitful be called great:
For the fool speaks fol y and his heart is set on vil ainy; he is godless in his actions and his wordsascribe error to Yahweh; he starves the hungry of their food and refuses drink to the thirsty.6 For the fool will speak foolish things, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and speak to the Lord deceitfully, and to make empty the soul of the hungry, and take away drink from the thirsty.
Everything to do with the rascal is evil, he devises infamous plans to ruin the poor with lying wordseven when the needy has right on his side;7 The vessels of the deceitful are most wicked: for he hath framed devices to destroy the meek, with lying words, when the poor man speaketh judgment.
but the noble person plans only noble things, noble his every move.8 But the prince will devise such things as are worthy of a prince, and he shah stand above the rulers.
Stand up, you haughty women, listen to my words; you over-confident daughters, pay attention to whatI say.9 Rise up, ye rich women, and hear my voice: ye confident daughters, give ear to my speech.
Within one year and a few days you wil tremble, you over-confident women; grape-harvesting will befinished, gathering will never happen again.10 For after days and a year, you that are confident shall be troubled: for the vintage is at an end, the gathering shall come no more.
Shudder, you haughty women, tremble, you over-confident women; strip, undress, put sackclothround your waists.11 Be astonished, ye rich women, be troubled, ye confident ones: strip yen, and be confounded, gird your loins.
Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine,12 Mourn for your breasts, for the delightful country, for the fruitful vineyard.
for my people's soil where the bramble-bush wil be growing and for al the happy houses, for therejoicing city.13 Upon the land of my people shall thorns and briers come up: how much more upon all the houses of joy, of the city that rejoiced?
For the citadel wil be abandoned and the thronged city deserted, Ophel and the Keep wil be denudedfor ever, the playground of wild donkeys and the pasture of flocks,14 For the house is forsaken, the multitude of the city is left, darkness and obscurity are come upon its dens for ever. A joy of wild asses, the pastures of docks,
until the spirit is poured out on us from above, and the desert becomes an orchard, and an orchardthat seems like a forest.15 Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high: and the desert shall be se a charmel, and charmel shall be counted for a forest.
Fair judgement wil fix its home in the desert, and uprightness live in this orchard,16 And judgment shall dwell in the wilderness, and justice shall sit in charmel.
and the product of uprightness will be peace, the effect of uprightness being quiet and security forever.17 And the work of justice shall be peace, and the service of justice quietness, and security for ever.
My people will live in a peaceful home, in peaceful houses, tranquil dwel ings.18 And my people shall sit in the beauty of peace, and in the tabernacles of confidence, and in wealthy rest.
And should the forest be total y destroyed and the city gravely humiliated,19 But hail shall be in the descent of the forest, and the city shall be made very low.
You wil be happy to sow wherever there is water and to let the ox and donkey roam free.20 Blessed are ye that sow upon all waters, sending thither the foot of the ox and the ass.
