New Jerusalem Bible La Biblia
Yahweh wil have pity on Jacob, he wil choose Israel once more and resettle them on their native soil.Foreigners will join them, attaching themselves to the House of Jacob.1 El Señor se apiadará de Jacob, volverá a escoger a Israel y los restablecerá en su tierra. Los extranjeros se unirán a ellos, y se incorporarán a la casa de Jacob.
Peoples wil take them and escort them home, and the House of Israel wil take them as slaves, menand women on Yahweh's soil. They wil enslave those who enslaved them and wil master their oppressors.2 Las naciones los acogerán para conducirlos a su patria. La casa de Israel los poseerá como siervos y siervas en la tierra del Señor. Harán cautivos a quienes los deportaron, dominarán a sus opresores.
When that day comes, and Yahweh gives you rest from your suffering and torment and the grimservitude to which you have been subjected,3 Cuando el Señor te conceda descansar de tus sufrimientos e inquietudes y de la dura servidumbre a la que fuiste sometido,
you wil recite this satire on the king of Babylon and say: 'How did the tyrant end? How did hisarrogance end?4 recitarás esta sátira contra el rey de Babilonia: ¡Cómo ha terminado el opresor, | cómo ha concluido su tormento!
Yahweh has broken the staff of the wicked, the sceptre of rulers,5 El Señor ha quebrado el bastón de los malvados, | el cetro de los dominadores,
furiously lashing peoples with continual blows, angrily hammering nations, pursuing without respite.6 que golpeaba a los pueblos con furor, | con golpes incesantes, | y dominaba con ira a las naciones, | con opresión implacable.
The whole world is at rest and calm, shouts of joy resounding,7 La tierra toda descansa sosegada, | lanzan gritos de júbilo.
the cypresses, the cedars of Lebanon, rejoice aloud at your fate, "Now that you have been laid low, noone comes up to fell us."8 También los cipreses se alegran por tu desgracia, | y los cedros del Líbano, diciendo: | «Desde que sucumbiste, | no sube el leñador para talarnos».
'On your account, Sheol below is astir to greet your arrival. He has roused the ghosts to greet you, althe rulers of the world. He has made al the kings of the nations get up from their thrones.9 El abismo se estremece en lo profundo | cuando sale a tu encuentro, | despierta a las sombras en tu honor, | a todos los grandes de la tierra, | se alzan de sus tronos | todos los reyes de las naciones.
They will all greet you with the words, "So, you too are now as weak as we are! You, too, havebecome like us.10 Te responden y dicen: | «También tú, como nosotros, has perdido tu fuerza, | eres como nosotros:
Your pride has been flung down to Sheol with the music of your lyres; under you a mattress ofmaggots, over you a blanket of worms.11 al abismo fue arrojado tu esplendor, | el son de tus arpas; | debajo de ti, un lecho de gusanos; | tu cobertor, lombrices.
How did you come to fal from the heavens, Daystar, son of Dawn? How did you come to be thrown tothe ground, conqueror of nations?12 ¡Cómo has caído del cielo, | astro matutino, hijo de la aurora! | ¡Has sido derribado por tierra, | opresor de naciones!
You who used to think to yourself: I shal scale the heavens; higher than the stars of God I shall setmy throne. I shal sit on the Mount of Assembly far away to the north.13 Tú decías en tu corazón: | “Escalaré los cielos; | elevaré mi trono por encima de las estrellas de Dios; | me sentaré en el monte de la divina asamblea, | en el confín del septentrión
I shal climb high above the clouds, I shal rival the Most High."14 escalaré las cimas de las nubes, | semejante al Altísimo”.
Now you have been flung down to Sheol, into the depths of the abyss!15 ¡En cambio, has sido arrojado al abismo, | a las profundidades de la fosa!».
'When they see you, they will scrutinise you and consider what you have become, "Is this the manwho made the world tremble, who overthrew kingdoms?16 Los que te ven, miran estupefactos | y reflexionan: | «¿Era este el hombre que hacía temblar la tierra | y estremecerse los reinos,
He made the world a desert, he level ed cities and never freed his prisoners to go home."17 que convertía el mundo en un desierto, | destruía sus ciudades | y no liberaba a sus prisioneros?
Al other kings of nations, al of them, lie honourably, each in his own tomb;18 Todos los reyes de las naciones reposan con honor, | cada cual en su morada.
but you have been thrown away, unburied, like a loathsome branch, covered with heaps of the slainpierced by the sword who fal on the rocks of the abyss like trampled carrion.19 A ti en cambio te han arrojado de tu tumba | como a un vástago despreciable, | cubierto de muertos traspasados por la espada, | y arrojados sobre las losas del sepulcro, | como un cadáver pisoteado.
'You wil not rejoin them in the grave, for you have brought your country to ruin and destroyed yourpeople. The offspring of the wicked leave no name behind them.20 No te reunirás con ellos en la tumba: | porque has destruido tu país | y asesinado a tu gente. | Nunca más se hablará | de la descendencia de los malvados».
Make ready to slaughter his sons for the guilt of their father! Never again must they rise to conquer theworld and cover the face of the earth with their cities.21 Preparad a sus hijos para la matanza | por la culpa de sus padres, | no sea que resurjan y se adueñen del país, | y cubran el mundo con sus ciudades.
'I wil rise against them, declares Yahweh Sabaoth, and deprive Babylon of name, remnant, offspringand posterity, declares Yahweh.22 Me alzaré contra ellos | —oráculo del Señor del universo— | y extirparé de Babilonia el nombre y la descendencia, | posteridad y progenie —oráculo del Señor—.
I shal turn it into the haunt of hedgehogs, a swamp. I shal sweep it with the broom of destruction, declares Yahweh Sabaoth.'23 Haré de ella propiedad de erizos | y la convertiré en un lugar cenagoso, | la barreré con la escoba de la destrucción | —oráculo del Señor del universo—.
Yahweh Sabaoth has sworn it, 'Yes, what I have planned wil take place, what I have decided will beso:24 Lo ha jurado el Señor del universo: | como lo había proyectado ha ocurrido, | y lo que había decidido se cumplirá:
'I shal break Assyria in my country, I shal trample on him on my mountains. Then his yoke wil slip offthem, his burden wil slip from their shoulders.'25 quebrantar a Asiria en mi propia tierra, | pisotearla en mis montañas. | Se apartará de ellos su yugo | y su carga de sus hombros.
This is the decision taken in defiance of the whole world; this, the hand outstretched in defiance of alnations.26 Este es el proyecto decidido sobre todo el país, | esta es la mano extendida sobre todas las naciones.
Once Yahweh Sabaoth has decided, who wil stop him? Once he stretches out his hand, who canwithdraw it?27 El Señor del universo lo ha decidido. ¿Quién podría frustrarlo? | Su mano está extendida. ¿Quién podría apartarla?
In the year Ahaz died came this proclamation:28 El año de la muerte del rey Ajaz | se proclamó este oráculo:
Al Philistia, do not rejoice because the rod which used to beat you is now broken, for the serpentstock wil produce a viper, its offspring wil be a flying dragon.29 No te alegres, nación filistea, | porque se ha quebrado la vara que te golpeaba. | Porque de la raíz de la serpiente saldrá una víbora, | y su fruto será un áspid volador.
While the first-born of the poor are grazing and the destitute are resting in safety, I shall make yourstock die of hunger and then slaughter what remains of you.30 Los más pobres serán alimentados, | y los indigentes reposarán seguros. | Pero haré morir de hambre la raíz | y lo que de ti quede será eliminado.
Howl, gate! Shriek, city! Totter, all Philistia! For a smoke is coming from the north, and there are nodeserters in those battalions.31 Gima el pórtico, grite la ciudad, | tiemble toda Filistea, | porque se eleva desde el norte una columna de humo. | De su compacta formación nadie se aparta.
What reply wil be given then to the messengers of that nation? - That Yahweh founded Zion andthere the poor of his people will find refuge.32 ¿Qué responder a los mensajeros de esa nación? | Que el Señor ha fundado Sión | y en ella se refugian los desvalidos de su pueblo.
