Sirach 7

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Do no evil, and evil wil not befal you;	1 Non fare il male, e il male non ti prenderà.
2 shun wrong, and it wil avoid you.	2 Allontanati dall'iniquo, e i mali si allontaneranno da te.
3 My child, do not sow in the furrows of wickedness, for fear you have to reap them seven times over.	3 Figlio, non seminare i mali nei solchi dell'ingiustizia, per non averne a raccogliere il settuplo.
4 Do not ask the Lord for the highest place, or the king for a seat of honour.	4 Non chiedere al Signore d'essere al potere, nè al re un seggio d'onore.
5 Do not parade your uprightness before the Lord, or your wisdom before the king.	5 Non ti giustificare dinanzi a Dio, perchè Egli conosce il cuore, e non voler apparir sapiente davanti al re.
6 Do not scheme to be appointed judge, for fear you should not be strong enough to stamp out injustice,for fear of being swayed by someone influential and so of risking the loss of your integrity.	6 Non cercar di diventar giudice, se non hai petto di fiaccare l'iniquità, affinchè non avvenga che tu, temendo la faccia del potente, ponga una pietra di inciampo alla tua equità.
7 Do not wrong the general body of citizens and so lower yourself in popular esteem.	7 Non offender tutta la popolazione d'una città e non ti gettare in mezzo alla folla.
8 Do not be drawn to sin twice over, for you wil not go unpunished even once.	8 Non aggiungere peccato a peccato, perchè nemmeno per uno solo sarai esente dalla pena.
9 Do not say, 'God will be impressed by my numerous offerings; when I sacrifice to God Most High, he isbound to accept.'	9 Guardati dall'essere pusillani me nel tuo cuore.
10 Do not be hesitant in prayer; do not neglect to give alms.	10 Non trascurare di pregare e di far l'elemosina.
11 Do not laugh at someone who is sad of heart, for he who brings low can lift up high.	11 Non dire: « Dio avrà riguardo alla moltitudine dei miei doni, e quando offrirò all'Altissimo Dio i miei doni, li accetterà ».
12 Do not make up lies against your brother, nor against a friend either.	12 Non deridere l'uomo che è nell'amarezza dell'anima, perchè colui che umilia ed esalta è Dio, che tutto vede.
13 Mind you tel no lies, for no good can come of it.	13 Non se minar menzogne contro il tuo fratello e non lo far nemmeno contro il tuo amico.
14 Do not talk too much at the gathering of elders, and do not repeat yourself at your prayers.	14 Guardati da ogni sorta di menzogna, perchè l'abitudine di mentire non è buona.
15 Do not shirk tiring jobs or farm work, ordained by the Most High.	15 Non esser parolaio nell'adunanza degli anziani, e non ripetere le parole nella tua orazione.
16 Do not swell the ranks of sinners, remember that the retribution wil not delay.	16 Non aver ripugnanza per le opere faticose, nè per l'agricoltura, creata dall'Altissimo.
17 Be very humble, since the recompense for the godless is fire and worms.	17 Non ti associare alla turba degli indisciplinati.
18 Do not barter a friend away for the sake of profit, nor a true brother for the gold of Ophir.	18 Ricordati dell'ira, che non sarà lenta a venire.
19 Do not turn against a wise and good wife; her gracious presence is worth more than gold.	19 Umilia pròfondamente il tuo spirito, perchè il fuoco e il verme saranno il castigo della carne dell'empio.
20 Do not il -treat a slave who is an honest worker, or a wage-earner who is devoted to you.	20 Non romper le relazioni con un amico che tarda a renderti del danaro, e non disprezzare un fratello carissimo per l'oro.
21 Love an intel igent slave with al your heart, and do not deny such a slave his freedom.	21 Non ti separare dalla donna sensata e buona che tu hai avuta in sorte nel timore del Signore, perchè la grazia della sua verecondia vai più dell'oro.
22 Have you cattle? Look after them; if they are making you a profit, keep them.	22 Non maltrattare il servo che lavora con fedeltà, nè il mercenario che per te consuma la sua vita.
23 Have you children? Educate them, from childhood make them bow the neck.	23 Un servo intelligente amalo come te stesso, non lo defraudare della sua libertà, non lo lasciare in miseria.
24 Have you daughters? Take care of their bodies, but do not be over-indulgent.	24 Hai dei bestiami? Prendine cura e se ti sono utili falli restare presso di te.
25 Marry a daughter off, and you have finished a great work; but give her to a man of sense.	25 Hai dei figlioli? Istruiscili e piegali alla sottomissione sin dall'infanzia.
26 Have you a wife to your liking? Do not turn her out; but if you do not love her, never trust her.	26 Hai delle figliole? Veglia sulla loro persona, e non mostrar loro il viso troppo ridente.
27 With al your heart honour your father, never forget the birthpangs of your mother.	27 Marita la figliola, ed avrai fatto un'opera grande; ma dalla ad un uomo assennato.
28 Remember that you owe your birth to them; how can you repay them for what they have done for you?	28 Se hai una moglie secondo il tuo cuore, non la mandar via, e di quella a cui non vuoi bene non ti fidare.
29 With al your soul, fear the Lord and revere his priests.	29 Con tutto il tuo cuore onora tuo padre, e non ti scordare dei gemiti di tua madre.
30 With al your might love him who made you, and do not abandon his ministers.	30 Ricordati che senza di essi non sa resti nato e rendi ad essi secondo il bene che ti han fatto.
31 Fear the Lord and honour the priest and give him the portion enjoined on you: first-fruits, sacrifice ofreparation, shoulder-gift, sanctification sacrifice, first-fruits of the holy things.	31 Con tutta l'anima tua temi il Signore, e venera i suoi sacerdoti.
32 And also give generously to the poor, so that your blessing may lack nothing.	32 Con tutte le tue forze ama colui che t'ha creato, e non lasciare in abbandono i suoi ministri.
33 Let your generosity extend to al the living, do not withhold it even from the dead.	33 Onora Dio con tutta l'anima tua, rispetta i sacerdoti, e e purificati colle spalle.
34 Do not turn your back on those who weep, but share the grief of the grief-stricken.	34 Dà ad essi, secondo il precetto che ne hai ricevuto, la parte delle primizie e dell'espiazione e delle negligenze purificati con poche (vittime).
35 Do not shrink from visiting the sick; in this way you wil make yourself loved.	35 Offrirai al Signore le spal e delle tue vittime, il sacrifizio di santificazione, e le primizie delle cose sante.
36 In everything you do, remember your end, and you wil never sin.	36 Stendi al povero la tua mano, affinchè sia perfetta la tua propiziazione e e la tua benedizione.
	37 La tua riconoscenza apparisca a tutti i viventi, e non negare la tua carità ai morti,
	38 Non mancare di porger consolazione a chi piange, e tieni compagnia agli afflitti.
	39 Non ti rincresca visitare il malato, chè in tal maniera t'affermerai nella carità.
	40 In tutte le tue azioni ricorda i tuoi novissimi, e non peccarai in eterno.
