Sirach 7

1 Do no evil, and evil wil not befal you;	1 Non fare il male, e il male non verrà sopra di te.
2 shun wrong, and it wil avoid you.	2 Partiti dall'uom perverso, e sarai lungi dal male.
3 My child, do not sow in the furrows of wickedness, for fear you have to reap them seven times over.	3 Figliuolo, non seminare cattiva semenza ne' solchi dell'ingiustizia, e non avrai da mieterne il settuplo.
4 Do not ask the Lord for the highest place, or the king for a seat of honour.	4 Non chiedere al Signore di esser condottiere di altri, né al re un posto di onore.
5 Do not parade your uprightness before the Lord, or your wisdom before the king.	5 Non ti spacciare per giusto dinanzi a Dio; perocché egli è conoscitore de' cuori, e non allettare di comparire sapiente dinanzi al re.
6 Do not scheme to be appointed judge, for fear you should not be strong enough to stamp out injustice,for fear of being swayed by someone influential and so of risking the loss of your integrity.	6 Non cercare di essere fatto pudice; se non hai petto da farti largo a traverso dell'iniquità: affinchè non avvenga, che tu temendo la faccia di un potente, abbi da esporre alle cadute la tua equità.
7 Do not wrong the general body of citizens and so lower yourself in popular esteem.	7 Guardati dall'offendere la moltitudine della città; e non ti gettare in mezzo al popolo.
8 Do not be drawn to sin twice over, for you wil not go unpunished even once.	8 Non congiungere peccato con peccato: perocché nemmen per un solo non sarai esente da pena.
9 Do not say, 'God will be impressed by my numerous offerings; when I sacrifice to God Most High, he isbound to accept.'	9 Guardati dall'aver un cuor pusillanime:
10 Do not be hesitant in prayer; do not neglect to give alms.	10 Non trascurar l'orazione, e il far limosina.
11 Do not laugh at someone who is sad of heart, for he who brings low can lift up high.	11 Non dire: Iddio avrà riguardo a' molti miei doni, e quand'io offerirò i miei doni all'Altissimo, ei gli accetterà.
12 Do not make up lies against your brother, nor against a friend either.	12 Non ti burlare di un uomo, che ha il cuore afflitto; perocché quegli, che umilia, ed esalta, egli è Dio, che tutto vede.
13 Mind you tel no lies, for no good can come of it.	13 Non inventar menzogne contro del tuo fratello; e noi fare similmente contro l'amico.
14 Do not talk too much at the gathering of elders, and do not repeat yourself at your prayers.	14 Guardati dal proferire alcuna menzogna; perché l'avvezzarsi a ciò non è cosa buona.
15 Do not shirk tiring jobs or farm work, ordained by the Most High.	15 Non essere verboso nella adunanza de' seniori; e non ripeter parola nella tua orazione.
16 Do not swell the ranks of sinners, remember that the retribution wil not delay.	16 Non odiare le opere di fatica, né l'agricoltura istituita dall'Altissimo.
17 Be very humble, since the recompense for the godless is fire and worms.	17 Non ti associare alla turba degli indisciplinati.
18 Do not barter a friend away for the sake of profit, nor a true brother for the gold of Ophir.	18 Ricorditi dell'ira, la quale non sarà lenta.
19 Do not turn against a wise and good wife; her gracious presence is worth more than gold.	19 Umilia grandemente il tuo spirito: perocché il fuoco, e il verme puniranno la carne dell'empio.
20 Do not il -treat a slave who is an honest worker, or a wage-earner who is devoted to you.	20 Non venir in rottura coll'amico, che tarda a renderti del denaro; e non disprezzare un fratello carissimo in confronto dell'oro.
21 Love an intel igent slave with al your heart, and do not deny such a slave his freedom.	21 Non ti separar da una donna giudiziosa, e dabbene, la quale nel timor del Signore ti toccò in sorte; perocché la grazia della sua verecondia val più che l'oro.
22 Have you cattle? Look after them; if they are making you a profit, keep them.	22 Non maltrattare il tuo servo, che opera con fedeltà; né il mercenario, che consuma per te la sua vita.
23 Have you children? Educate them, from childhood make them bow the neck.	23 Il servo sensato sia amato da te, come l'anima tua, non gli negare la sua libertà, e nol lasciare in miseria.
24 Have you daughters? Take care of their bodies, but do not be over-indulgent.	24 Hai tu de' bestiami? va a visitarli; e se sono utili, restino presso di te.
25 Marry a daughter off, and you have finished a great work; but give her to a man of sense.	25 Hai tu de' figliuoli? istruiscili, e domali dalla loro puerizia.
26 Have you a wife to your liking? Do not turn her out; but if you do not love her, never trust her.	26 Hai tu delle figliuole? custodisci la loro verginità, e non mostrar ad esse il viso ridente.
27 With al your heart honour your father, never forget the birthpangs of your mother.	27 Da a marito la figliuola, ed hai fatto un'opera grande; ma dalla ad un uomo sensato.
28 Remember that you owe your birth to them; how can you repay them for what they have done for you?	28 Se tu hai una moglie secondo cuor tuo, non la mandar via; e nondarti ad una, che sia odiosa.
29 With al your soul, fear the Lord and revere his priests.	29 Con tutto il cuor tuo onora il padre tuo; e non ti scordare de' gemiti di tua madre.
30 With al your might love him who made you, and do not abandon his ministers.	30 Ricordati, che senza di essi tu non saresti nato; e rendi ad essi secondo quello, che han fatto per te.
31 Fear the Lord and honour the priest and give him the portion enjoined on you: first-fruits, sacrifice ofreparation, shoulder-gift, sanctification sacrifice, first-fruits of the holy things.	31 Temi il Signore con tutta l'anima tua, e onora i suoi sacerdoti.
32 And also give generously to the poor, so that your blessing may lack nothing.	32 Con tutte le tue forze ama colui, che ti ha creato: e non abbandonare i suoi ministri.
33 Let your generosity extend to al the living, do not withhold it even from the dead.	33 Onora il Signore con tutta l'anima tua, e rispetta i sacerdoti; e mondati offerendo le spalle (delle ostie).
34 Do not turn your back on those who weep, but share the grief of the grief-stricken.	34 Da ad essi la parte delle primizie, e (delle ostie) di espiazione, come fu a te comandato; e mondati dalla tua negligenza colle poche (vittime).
35 Do not shrink from visiting the sick; in this way you wil make yourself loved.	35 Offerirai in dono al Signore le spalle delle tue vittime, e il sagrifizio di santificazione, e le primizie delle cose sante:
36 In everything you do, remember your end, and you wil never sin.	36 E stendi al povero la tua mano (affinchè sia perfetta la tua propiziazione, e la tua benedizione).
	37 La beneficenza è gradita a tutti i viventi; e tu non negarla nemmeno ai morti.
	38 Non mancare di porgere consolazione a chi piange; e tieni compagnia agli afflitti.
	39 Non ti paia greve il visitare il malato; perocché per tali mezzi ti fonderai nella carità.
	40 In tutte le tue azioni ricordati del tuo ultimo fine, e non peccherai in eterno.
