Sirach 7

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Do no evil, and evil wil not befal you;	1 Não pratiques o mal, e o mal não te iludirá.
2 shun wrong, and it wil avoid you.	2 Afasta-te da injustiça, e a injustiça se afastará de ti.
3 My child, do not sow in the furrows of wickedness, for fear you have to reap them seven times over.	3 Meu filho, não semeies o mal nos sulcos da injustiça, e dele não recolherás o sétuplo.
4 Do not ask the Lord for the highest place, or the king for a seat of honour.	4 Não peças ao Senhor o encargo de guiar outrem, nem ao rei um lugar de destaque.
5 Do not parade your uprightness before the Lord, or your wisdom before the king.	5 Não te justifiques perante Deus, pois ele conhece o fundo dos corações; não pretendas parecer sábio diante
6 Do not scheme to be appointed judge, for fear you should not be strong enough to stamp out injustice,for fear of being swayed by someone influential and so of risking the loss of your integrity.	6 Não procures tornar-te juiz, se não fores bastante forte para destruir a iniqüidade, para que não aconteça que temas perante um homem poderoso, e te exponhas a pecar contra a eqüidade.
7 Do not wrong the general body of citizens and so lower yourself in popular esteem.	7 Não ofendas a população inteira de uma cidade, não te lances em meio da multidão.
8 Do not be drawn to sin twice over, for you wil not go unpunished even once.	8 Não acrescentes um segundo pecado ao primeiro, pois mesmo por causa de um só não ficarás impune.
9 Do not say, 'God will be impressed by my numerous offerings; when I sacrifice to God Most High, he isbound to accept.'	9 Não te deixes levar ao desânimo.
10 Do not be hesitant in prayer; do not neglect to give alms.	10 Não descuides de orar nem de dar esmola.
11 Do not laugh at someone who is sad of heart, for he who brings low can lift up high.	11 Não digas: Deus há de considerar a quantidade de meus dons; quando os oferecer ao Deus Altíssimo, ele os há de aceitar.
12 Do not make up lies against your brother, nor against a friend either.	12 Não zombes de um homem que está na aflição, pois há alguém que humilha e exalta: Deus que tudo vê.
13 Mind you tel no lies, for no good can come of it.	13 Não inventes mentira contra teu irmão, não inventes nenhuma mentira contra teu amigo.
14 Do not talk too much at the gathering of elders, and do not repeat yourself at your prayers.	14 Cuida-te para não dizeres mentira alguma, pois o costume de mentir é coisa má.
15 Do not shirk tiring jobs or farm work, ordained by the Most High.	15 Na companhia dos anciãos, não sejas falador, não multipliques as palavras em tua oração.
16 Do not swell the ranks of sinners, remember that the retribution wil not delay.	16 Não abomines as tarefas penosas, nem o labor da terra, que foi criado pelo Altíssimo.
17 Be very humble, since the recompense for the godless is fire and worms.	17 Não te coloques no número das pessoas corrompidas,
18 Do not barter a friend away for the sake of profit, nor a true brother for the gold of Ophir.	18 lembra-te de que a cólera não tarda.
19 Do not turn against a wise and good wife; her gracious presence is worth more than gold.	19 Humilha profundamente o teu espírito, pois o fogo e o verme são o castigo da carne do ímpio.
20 Do not il -treat a slave who is an honest worker, or a wage-earner who is devoted to you.	20 Não pratiques o mal contra um amigo que demora em te pagar, não desprezes por causa do ouro um irmão bem-amado.
21 Love an intel igent slave with al your heart, and do not deny such a slave his freedom.	21 Não te afastes da mulher sensata e virtuosa que te foi concedida no temor do Senhor; pois a graça de sua modéstia vale mais do que o ouro.
22 Have you cattle? Look after them; if they are making you a profit, keep them.	22 Não maltrates um escravo que trabalha pontualmente, nem o operário que te é devotado.
23 Have you children? Educate them, from childhood make them bow the neck.	23 Que o escravo sensato te seja tão caro quanto a tua própria vida! Não o prives da liberdade, nem o abandones na indigência.
24 Have you daughters? Take care of their bodies, but do not be over-indulgent.	24 Tens rebanhos? Cuida deles; se te forem úteis, guarda-os em tua casa.
25 Marry a daughter off, and you have finished a great work; but give her to a man of sense.	25 Tens filhos? Educa-os, e curva-os à obediência desde a infância.
26 Have you a wife to your liking? Do not turn her out; but if you do not love her, never trust her.	26 Tens filhas? Vela pela integridade de seus corpos, não lhes mostres um rosto por demais jovial.
27 With al your heart honour your father, never forget the birthpangs of your mother.	27 Casa tua filha, e terás feito um grande negócio; dá-a a um homem sensato.
28 Remember that you owe your birth to them; how can you repay them for what they have done for you?	28 Se tiveres mulher conforme teu coração, não a repudies, e não confies na que é odiosa.
29 With al your soul, fear the Lord and revere his priests.	29 Honra teu pai de todo o coração, não esqueças os gemidos de tua mãe;
30 With al your might love him who made you, and do not abandon his ministers.	30 lembra-te de que sem eles não terias nascido, e faze por eles o que fizeram por ti.
31 Fear the Lord and honour the priest and give him the portion enjoined on you: first-fruits, sacrifice ofreparation, shoulder-gift, sanctification sacrifice, first-fruits of the holy things.	31 Teme a Deus com toda a tua alma, tem um profundo respeito pelos seus sacerdotes.
32 And also give generously to the poor, so that your blessing may lack nothing.	32 Ama com todas as tuas forças aquele que te criou; não abandones os seus ministros.
33 Let your generosity extend to al the living, do not withhold it even from the dead.	33 Honra a Deus com toda a tua alma, respeita os sacerdotes; (nos sacrifícios) oferece-lhes as espáduas.
34 Do not turn your back on those who weep, but share the grief of the grief-stricken.	34 Dá-lhes, como te foi prescrito, a parte da primícias e das vítimas expiatórias; purifica-te de tuas omissões com pequenas (oferendas);
35 Do not shrink from visiting the sick; in this way you wil make yourself loved.	35 oferece ao Senhor os dons das espáduas, os sacrifícios de santificação e as primícias das coisas santas.
36 In everything you do, remember your end, and you wil never sin.	36 Estende a mão para o pobre, a fim de que sejam perfeitos teu sacrifício e tua oferenda.
	37 Dá de boa vontade a todos os vivos, não recuses esse benefício a um morto.
	38 Não deixes de consolar os que choram, aproxima-te dos que estão aflitos.
	39 Não tenhas preguiça de visitar um doente, pois é assim que te firmarás na caridade.
	40 Em tudo o que fizeres, lembra-te de teu fim, e jamais pecarás.
