Sirach 7

NEW JERUSALEM	KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA
1 Do no evil, and evil wil not befal you;	1 Ne tégy rosszat, akkor téged sem ér semmi rossz,
2 shun wrong, and it wil avoid you.	2 kerüld az igaztalanságot, akkor távol marad tőled a baj.
3 My child, do not sow in the furrows of wickedness, for fear you have to reap them seven times over.	3 Fiam! Ne vess gonosz magot igaztalan barázdába, akkor nem aratod azt hétszeresen!
4 Do not ask the Lord for the highest place, or the king for a seat of honour.	4 Ne kérj magadnak az Úrtól uralmat, sem a királytól díszes ülőhelyet!
5 Do not parade your uprightness before the Lord, or your wisdom before the king.	5 Ne tartsd magadat igaznak Isten előtt, mert ő belelát a szívbe, és ne akarj a király mellett okosnak feltűnni.
6 Do not scheme to be appointed judge, for fear you should not be strong enough to stamp out injustice,for fear of being swayed by someone influential and so of risking the loss of your integrity.	6 Ne kívánj elöljáró lenni, ha nincsen erőd letörni a jogtalanságot, hogy meg ne ijedj a hatalmas képétől, és csorbát ne ejts feddhetetlenségeden.
7 Do not wrong the general body of citizens and so lower yourself in popular esteem.	7 Ne véts a város lakossága ellen, és ne elegyedj a nép közé!
8 Do not be drawn to sin twice over, for you wil not go unpunished even once.	8 A bűnt megismételni ne kívánd, mert egyért sem maradsz büntetlenül.
9 Do not say, 'God will be impressed by my numerous offerings; when I sacrifice to God Most High, he isbound to accept.'	9 Ne légy csüggeteg lelkű,
10 Do not be hesitant in prayer; do not neglect to give alms.	10 ne restelld az imát és az alamizsnálkodást!
11 Do not laugh at someone who is sad of heart, for he who brings low can lift up high.	11 Ne mondd: »Adományaim sokaságát tekinti Isten, ha áldozok a fölséges Istennek, elfogadja ajándékaim!«
12 Do not make up lies against your brother, nor against a friend either.	12 Ne gúnyolj senkit sem lelke keserűségében, mert van, aki megaláz és felemel: a gondviselő Isten!
13 Mind you tel no lies, for no good can come of it.	13 Ne tervezz álnokságot testvéred ellen, de barátod ellen se tégy ilyesmit!
14 Do not talk too much at the gathering of elders, and do not repeat yourself at your prayers.	14 Ne kívánj hazudni sohasem, mert nem jó azt megszokni.
15 Do not shirk tiring jobs or farm work, ordained by the Most High.	15 Ne fecsegj az előkelők gyülekezetében, és ne szaporítsd a szót imádságodban!
16 Do not swell the ranks of sinners, remember that the retribution wil not delay.	16 Ne restelld a fáradságos dolgot, a föld megmunkálását, hisz azt a Magasságbeli rendelte!
17 Be very humble, since the recompense for the godless is fire and worms.	17 Ne számítsd magad a fegyelmezetlen tömeghez;
18 Do not barter a friend away for the sake of profit, nor a true brother for the gold of Ophir.	18 gondolj a haragra, amely nem késik!
19 Do not turn against a wise and good wife; her gracious presence is worth more than gold.	19 Alázd meg magadat nagyon, mert a bűnös testének fenyítéke tűz és féreg!
20 Do not il -treat a slave who is an honest worker, or a wage-earner who is devoted to you.	20 Ne véts barátod ellen, ha késik a fizetéssel, ne vesd meg aranyért drága testvéredet!
21 Love an intel igent slave with al your heart, and do not deny such a slave his freedom.	21 Ne hagyd el az okos és jó asszonyt, akit elnyertél Isten félelmében, mert tisztességének bája aranynál is többet ér.
22 Have you cattle? Look after them; if they are making you a profit, keep them.	22 Ne bánj rosszul a szolgával, aki híven szolgál, sem a béressel, aki a lelkét is kiteszi!
23 Have you children? Educate them, from childhood make them bow the neck.	23 Az értelmes szolgát úgy szeresd, mint magadat; ne tagadd meg tőle a felszabadítást, és ne hagyd őt nyomorogni!
24 Have you daughters? Take care of their bodies, but do not be over-indulgent.	24 Barmaid vannak? Ügyelj rájuk, és ha megfelelők, tartsd meg őket.
25 Marry a daughter off, and you have finished a great work; but give her to a man of sense.	25 Fiaid vannak? Neveld meg őket, alakítsd őket gyermekkoruktól fogva!
26 Have you a wife to your liking? Do not turn her out; but if you do not love her, never trust her.	26 Leányaid vannak? Őrizd a testüket, és ne mutass nekik nyájas arcot!
27 With al your heart honour your father, never forget the birthpangs of your mother.	27 Add férjhez leányodat, akkor nagy dolgot műveltél, de értelmes férfihez add!
28 Remember that you owe your birth to them; how can you repay them for what they have done for you?	28 Ha kedvedre való feleséged van, ne taszítsd el magadtól, de ne bízd magad eltaszított asszonyra. Teljes szívvel
29 With al your soul, fear the Lord and revere his priests.	29 tiszteld apádat, és meg ne feledkezz anyád fájdalmairól!
30 With al your might love him who made you, and do not abandon his ministers.	30 Gondold meg, hogy nem születtél volna nélkülük, úgy fizess nekik, amint ők neked!
31 Fear the Lord and honour the priest and give him the portion enjoined on you: first-fruits, sacrifice ofreparation, shoulder-gift, sanctification sacrifice, first-fruits of the holy things.	31 Teljes lelkedből féld az Urat, és tartsd tiszteletben az ő papjait!
32 And also give generously to the poor, so that your blessing may lack nothing.	32 Minden erődből szeresd Alkotódat, és ne hagyd cserben az ő szolgáit!
33 Let your generosity extend to al the living, do not withhold it even from the dead.	33 Tiszteld Istent teljes lelkedből, és becsüld meg a papokat, szerezz magadnak engesztelést áldozati lapockákkal.
34 Do not turn your back on those who weep, but share the grief of the grief-stricken.	34 Add meg nekik a részt, amint az neked elő van írva, a zsengéből és az engesztelő áldozatokból, s a vétségtől tisztítsd meg magadat csekély adománnyal.
35 Do not shrink from visiting the sick; in this way you wil make yourself loved.	35 Az áldozati lapockát és a megszentelő áldozatot mutasd be az Úrnak, s a szent zsengéket is!
36 In everything you do, remember your end, and you wil never sin.	36 A szegénynek nyújtsd a kezedet, hogy tökéletes legyen engesztelésed és áldásod. Kedves az ajándék minden élő szemében, de a halottól se tagadd meg a kegyeletet! Ne hagyd a sírókat vigasz nélkül, és tarts a gyászolókkal! Ne restellj beteget látogatni, ezáltal erősödsz meg a szeretetben! Minden dolgodnál gondolj a végedre, akkor sohasem vétkezel többé!
